Air port express extending network, repeating from another express but losing signal in bedroom

I have an air port extreme and 4 air port express in my network. 2 of the airport express are repeating off an express and not the extreme. I have solid green lights all around, but I lose connectivity in master bedroom, even with an express in the room... 3 story building, extreme on first floor, bedroom on third....can anyone help?

WDS has so many downsides that I would avoid it if at all possible. For example, WDS only runs at "g" wireless speeds, so you lose the faster "n" speed capability of your entire network.....and bandwidth of the entire network would drop about 75%.
It's very difficult for most users to configure WDS as well.
I would really try very hard to experiment with different locations for your Express devices before I even considered WDS as a alternative.
I need to be offline for about a hour...so will not be able to respond for a bit to further questions

iphone will connect to base station no problems, I've restored settings and started again but still the same, the iphone picked up the network for the last couple of months, but not now ?

I'm having the same issue. My AExpress used to give a good signal strength on the far side of the house extending he network created by my Extreme. However, I've noticed lately that my iPhone does not receive the same strong signal it once did. AE has a green light, I've rebooted it, and my Extreme but there is no change in signal strength. Other than the green light, how can I tell if the Express is working if I don't get a good network signal?

Normally, AirPort Utility is not used or needed to set up Time Machine backups......unless a default setting on the Time Capsule to Enable File Sharing has been changed.
On the other hand, if you open AirPort Utility, a picture of the Time Capsule should be displayed. Are you saying here that the Time Capsule does not appear when you open AirPort Utility?

    Question
After "upgrading" to new firefox none of my bookmarks are in new bookmarks help topics tell me how to import from another browser but not from previous version of firefox. Another problem is my anti virus ( most up to date) is apparently not compatible with 4.0 liked the old firefox would never have "upgraded" had I known my anti virus wouldn't work. Can I get old version back

Check with Kaspersky as to what versions of Firefox their programs are compatible with. It is up to Kaspersky to keep their stuff up to date as Mozilla releases new versions of Firefox. And if they are unwilling or incapable of doing it, they should inform their customers of such and maybe refund their customers instead of stringing them along.

  • How do you extend the frame from one side but not the whole thing?

I am updating my blog and want to put a rectangle picture into the pre-set frame. I need to stretch it horizontally but the entire frame (i.e., both sides and top/bottom) stretched instead. How do you extend the frame from one side but not the whole thing?

In Inspector, select the Graphic Inspector. Choose, from the Fill options, Image Fill. Select the image from the dropdown and click Open. Now go back to Inspector and click on Scale to Fit. Choose from the options in the window. There are a number of them which should address your problem:
With the Blog template, you will probably need to insert a text box over the stock placement frame and work with that instead.

  • Time Capsule & Airport Express Extended Network loses connection!

OK, so I am an Apple virgin of 2 months experience, after many many years with Windows based PCs, so please be patient and gentle with me. Sorry about the long explanation.....
My set-up comprises of a Time Capsule, which is connected to the Internet via a NetGear ASDL modem. Both pieces of equipment are situated in my wife's office on the first floor of our house. My office is on the ground floor, where I have a 27" iMac and an Airport Express which is connected to a printer via the USB port. The Airport Express is sited about 10 feet from the iMac.
All software and firmware are lastest versions - TC v7.5, AX v7.4.2 & Airport Utility v5.5.
For the past 2 months, I have only been using the AX to print wirelessly and the set-up has worked faultlessly.
Earlier this week, I decided change the configuration to extend the network to allow me to use my laptop & iPhone in areas of the ground floor where I had no signal. I followed the online instructions and first changed the TC to check the box to 'allow this network to be extended', after updating the configuration successfully I moved to the AX. Here I changed the wireless mode to 'Extend a wireless network', selected the network name and checked the 'Allow wireless clients' box. This also updated successfully.
Everything ran correctly and the range of the network was greatly increased.......great, job done...not!
After about 3 hours the iMac lost the connection and the TC disappeared from the Airport Utility pane and refused to reappear. I checked but also couldn't connect or see any network on the laptop or iPhone, so have dismissed a fault with the iMac. I finally got things back up after doing a power reset of the TC, but after a few hours same problem occurred, and occurred and occurred. By clicking the Airport Utility icon on the top right of the screen and following the prompts from 'no Internet connection', I can at least get things up and working without a power reset of the TC, but the connection still drops after 2-5 hours each time.
My first call to Apple Support led to a full reset and re-config of both the TC and AX, setting the extended network up as I had done originally. The only difference was an iMac reset (alt/cmd P&R on power up) and changing the 2.4Ghz channel from 1 to 11. This had no affect and the connection drop-out problem continued.
My second call to Apple Support led to me being passed to a Level 2 Techie, who first suggested that I tried disabling the Guest Network - tried it, and it made no difference. I was then told to try a WDS network, which whilst not losing connection, is slower and has less range than the original extended network and frankly sounds a cop-out.
Has anyone had a similar problem, anyone solved the problems, can anyone offer any help or advice please.. I'd appreciate any input....thanks.

Similar problem here. Cable Modem (Moto SB6120)->AEBS (802.11n dual-band)>AX (802.11n) for wireless connection to MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.2. AEBS configured as dual-band: 801.11a/n at 5GHZ and 801.11b/g/n at 2.4 GHZ. AX configured to wirelessly extend the AEBS 5GHz 802.11a/n network. I am able to run on the extended 5GHz network (via AX) for varying lengths of time, until the internet connection dies. When this occurs, I am able to switch over to the 2.4GHz network to get back online. Solution up until now has been to unplug the AX, then plug it back in. After the AX restarts, I am able to hop back onto its 5GHz signal and get to the internet. However, the internet connection on this band will drop again after some time.
I was on the phone with Apple Support twice in the past week to get this resolved, but no joy. Senior Advisor seemed to think that my AX was working properly, and that that the problem could be with my AEBS -- perhaps the 5GHz antenna might be bad in my AEBS? Seems odd to me, since both my AEBS and AX are less than 2 months old...
I just read the post from LocoDoc and decided to see if I could replicate the problem. Sure enough, when I am connected to the internet via my AX extended 5GHz network signal and a Time Machine backup starts, the internet connection quits. Only recourse is to restart the AX. Note that I do not experience this problem with Time Machine while connected wirelessly straight to the AEBS 5GHz signal. Only when I am connected to the "extended" signal via the AX.

  • Creating and Extended Network with 2 Airport Express Units

I had an extended network using 2 express units but one of them broke. The old network was setup with an older version of Airport Utility and I can't seem to repeat the set up a new network with the new express unit I have bought.
The simple setup procedure using Airport Utility 5.5.1 only appears to allow you to 'join' the remote Express unit to an existing network, there is no 'extend remotely' option.
I remember doing it last time by creating a WDS network which agrees with instructions I have found here - http://broadcast.oreilly.com/2009/03/taming-an-airport-express-wds.html
I set up the first Express as a base station with a network and select 'Participate in a WDS network' and 'Allow this network to be extended' under the wireless tab. Under the WDS tab I 'Allow wireless clients' and add the hardware address of the second express unit.
I then update the express unit but I get a WDS error which states, "This Airport wireless device is set up as part of a WDS network but no other AirPort wireless devices were found."
This seems to be a chicken and egg situation.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Alan

    Alan, welcome to the discussions!
It appears that you want to set up a WDS arrangment, correct?
But, I can't figure out whether you want to configure it with a "base" and two "remotes", or whether you want to configure it with a "base", "relay" and "remote"
Can you clarify? I'll send you a link with instructions from forum expert user Tesserax with step by step instructions. Just need to know what set of instructions to send.

  • Extend Network with Airport Extreme & Express

I am trying to extend the range of a wireless network from one house to another about 80 yards away. I have an Airport Extreme Base Station (ABES) and an Airport Express (AX) which is supposed to accomplish this. I found some instructions in the forums that walked me through configuring WDS. That was easy enough, however, when the AX restarts it doesn't come back up in the Airport Utility. It will come up if I do a hard reset on the AX. The ABES continues to show a WDS error and displays a flashing amber light.
What am I doing wrong? How do I fix this issue?

Karen,,, sorry for the interruption. I have the same issue..... AP Extreme Flying Saucer, AP Express "b", and a new AP Express "n" and would like to stop all the drop outs with my music. So, I'll ask Bob for some help.... I think I already know the answer.....
Bob,,,,, Here is my schematic layout.... Everything is "as the crow flies" and in the same height placement. iMac in bedroom, 1st Stereo in Living room approx 25 feet away, 2nd Stereo in a detach Shop approx 85 feet from the iMac. There is a concrete block wall between the computer and the first stereo and the same block wall along with two big glass windows between the computer and the shop stereo. Again all are in a straight line from the computer.
The new AP Express "n" is in the shop which is the greatest distance. If the wind is blowing hard I have lots of drop outs in both stereo's..... And during other nice weather times everything works excellent.
How can I extend the wireless signal??? I'll buy all "n" stuff if you think it'll do the trick....? I can't raise the Dr. Bott antenna due to cord length.... Oh,, my internet modem is plugged into the iMac not the AP Extreme...
    Any suggestions....?

  • Confused on Wireless Options when adding second Air Port Extreme to network

Hello and thank you for your anticipated help. I decided to increase my coverage in my home by adding a second Air Port Extreme to the network. I followed the setup as outlined and it is connected to the network (green solid LEDs) but when I looked at the second Air Port Extreme I noticed under wireless options that there are different options listed. The primary APE show this:
    The extended APE shows this:
    Are these setting correct?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply.
I understand the fact that a "hidden" network really isn't so hidden. I have a rather secure SSID (17+ characters) that should slow down anyone trying to access it from outside, especially since most programs designed to defeat PW tend to limit themselves to 16 characters. We're not a nuclear site, but I just feel better knowing that I have at least checked the box that made it hidden.
Everything is working well and I just didn't understand the whole second APE setup thing with the channels and frequencies.
Thank you for you help and input.
BTW, I installed the 7.6.3 update and pulled it back to 7.6.1 after up/dn speeds declined considerably.

  • HT4259 Does Airport Express extended network inherits wifi time restrictions?

    Hello:
I have created a network with my Airport Extreme and I've set up some wifi access time restrictions based on mac addresses. Now I want to extend this network adding an Airport Express at the living room. Everything went smooth but I'd like to know if I need to set up the restrictions at the Express or does it inherit them from the Extreme.
    Thanks!

Inherits from the Extreme as they are determined by the connected devices to the Wi-Fi.

  • AP Express Extending network proof?

I'm using an AirPort Express 802.11n as my main base station. I have another AEX 802.11g on another floor in house that I believe is set up to extend the main network.
In a room adjacent to the room where the 802.11g AEX is, I have a Mac Mini that was seeing the network earlier today but no longer does (no changes were made to its configuration).
How can I confirm my 2nd AEX is actually performing as an extension of the main network?

How exactly do you have the "AEX 802.11g" configured to extend the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn). Since you have a "mix" of base stations, the only way to do this is with the older static WDS method. Is this how you have them configured? ref: Apple Support: Wi-Fi base stations: Setting up and configuring a Wireless Distribution System (802.11b/g)

  • Early A-express extend network?

I have one of the early airport expresses, maybe first generation (I dont understand the numbers and letters). It works fine for airtunes. If I try to use it (after factory reset for whatever that is worth), set it up to "extend my wireless network", that option does not pop up in airport utility. Other, newer A-expresses that I have tried from my workplace give that option. An old Airport Extreme (not sure of its numbers and letters either) also lets you do this specific pop-up option. The Express I am trying this on, only allows you to join a network or set up a new network. Is "extending" a network a feature of only the newer A-expresses?
Also, Apple says "Airport Express can extend the range only of an Airport extreme or Airport Express wireless network". Is that true that it will not extend a network with a non-Apple wireless router?
    thanks
    roger

    more, sorry...
this is still the A-Ex g model 1994. When I set it up it gives me the option to, after telling it to join the network (not set up a new network)
Join my wireless network: Select this option if you only want to use your AEx to share a USB printer or play iTunes music through remote speakers (what i bought it for and what it works fine for)
    or
Extend the range of my Airport Extreme or Airport Express Network: Select this option if you want your Airport Express to extend your wireless network and share its internet connection.
What I don't understand if option #2 if you cannot use this early AEx for an ethernet internet access or to extend it wirelessly, what does checking this box allow you to do?
