Air port express not found by my mac

Hallo all, I want to extend my wlan, therefore I want to install an additional air port. I have already a time capuse with air port. Now my question:
Do I neet to connect the new air port with a wire? I thougt the connection is wireless? Unitl now the new air port is not found by my mac within the utility air port program. Why? Please help! Thank you, Kailash

To help facilitate setting up your extended network, I would recommend the following:
Perforrm a "factory default" reset on the AirPort Express base station.
Temporarily connect the Express to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable between them.
Once you have configured the extended network, you can now disconnect the Express from the TC and place it at the desired location.

  • Airport express not found by my mac

I have plugged my airport express into my speakers, but my Mac can't find it on the wireless network

Did you set the Express up originally or is this a new setup.
You may have to reset the Express doing a Hard or Factory reset.

  • Air Port Express not showing up on Airport Utility scan

I recently reset my password on my Airport extreme base station. After I did this my Airport express, which I use to extend the signal, doesn't work. I probably need to reset it's password, too. But now it doesn't show up on the Airport utility when it scans for devices. I've reset the express. I've unplugged it for a while. What else can I do?

Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AirPort Express (AX) to see if that helps AirPort Utility "see" the AX.
In order for the AX to extend the signal from the Airport Extreme (AEBS), the following must occur:
Wireless Mode set to Extend a Wireless Network
Wireless Network Name must exactly match the name of the network created by the AEBS
Wireless Security must exactly match the wireless security setting on the AEBS
Wireless Password must exactly match the wireless password setting on the AEBS

  • Air port express can not been accessed

My OSX has been upgraded to 10.7.4, and use Air port express as my AP, my iPhone and iPad(even non-Apple product) can access the AP, but my Mac book pro can not access it, even airport utility can not find it. But the AP is shown on the menu bar on the top screen and can not be selected.
Sometime a dialog box displayed to ask for password. But I keyed in correct password and it shows connection timeout.

"Pulling" a folder refers to basically moving (or renaming) a folder that holds preference data that the OS will recreate if it can't find it. For instance, anything in the ~/Library/Preferences folder. It's useful when trying to isolate software issues because often these problems are just as a result of corrupted preference files.
When dealing with network preferences, the stuff you want is in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. That is to say, the ROOT library, accessed by going Finder>Go>Computer>Mac HD.
If you rename this whole folder to SystemConfiguration.old and then restart, the OS will create a fresh folder, which often resolves OS-related networking issues. From that point, you can either delete the SystemConfiguration.old folder, or name it back and then delete the new one if you want to start trying to individually isolate what went wrong.
If nothing changes at all when you rename or move the SystemConfiguration folder, then you're likely looking at some nasty interference issues. Try changing the channel on your Airport Express.

  • Mac 10.9.1 port: command not found

    Howdy,
I'm fairly new to Mac, at least it hs been years since I used my G3 tower.  I am a school teacher, teaching Web Tech to high school students.  I've got a Linux Server(Ubuntu 10.10) and have set-up Apache2 and vsftpd for them to work on. It is a local(inside the school's firewall) only set-up. I've been teaching students how to build web pages and ftp on to their chrooted folder inside Apache2 tp push their work. The school purchased a Mac mini-tower(Maverick - 10.9.1) for meto work with and configure for the next year's classes. I'm very used to command line and I am trying to download "vsftpd" to install so I can get a chrooted environment. I tried:
         sudo port install vsftpd
and got port: command not found.     I even did, man port...and got.... No manual entry for port
I am simply looking to install vsftpd to config for chrooting reasons.
Also, I'm still working on the complete command line of useradd for the following.  I'd like to only give them "ftp" access to  (local IPaddress -> 10.127.X.X/username) with no shell access(I made a link to /sbin/ftplogin which I assume does nothing) with NO naviagtion abilities within ftp besides their own folder.
    Thanks!!!

Thank you. I'm so used to apt-get or Synaptic, I don't know how to install anything from a Mac command line.  I searched the Internet for MacPorts and found it and followed the basic installation. All is good. Thanks again !!!

  • Air port express and ipad, iphone, apple tv

i have my audio speakers plgged into my 3 air port express for 3 rooms in my house. when i use my old apple tv, i can play my music on all 3. however, on my ipad, itouch and mac computers, i can only do one at a time. Why?

The iPod Touch does not have the "Multiple" speakers function.
    You only get one choice.
I have 3 Airport Express units and this is just the way Apple has it setup for the iPod Touch.
You should be able to choose all 3 on your Mac.
Look at the bottom right of your iTunes window and you should be able to choose multiple speakers.

  • HT4259 We decided to set the Air Port Express in a room using only the power outlet and relying on the existing wifi signal...we have a verizon modem and didn't want to mess with connecting the Air port express directly to the verizon device.  It didn't w

I bought a Air Port Express device from Apple yesterday.  We decided to set the Air port device in a room near the router to use as a wifi extender to areas of the house where the signal is weak.  In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep.  he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house.  We have verizon DSL.  Our town is very small...no cable provided so we are lucky to have what we have...some areas of our town can't even get what we have.  We, didn't want to connect it directly to the Verizon device (router)....we followed the directions from Josh as well as the explicit directions provided by Apple support...it didn't work. We keep getting an error message.  Does anyone have any advice ?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Please speak in "Laymen's terms"  I am not technically savy....but..am determined to get this set up.  Thanks to anyone, in advance!

In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep.  he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house.
Unfortunately, it appears that Josh was not aware that the AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless signal from another Apple router.
    From Apple's literature:
Extend an existing Wi-Fi network’s range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range, AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express — and near the area where you want your wireless connection. Launch the easy-to-use AirPort Utility app on your iOS device or Mac, and you’re mere minutes away from long-range Wi-Fi enjoyment.
The AirPort Express is not compatible with a Verizon product for this purpose.
Your might want to have another conversation with Josh to ask his advice on how best to proceed at this point.
If you do decide to keep the AirPort Express, it will be necessary to connect it to your Verizon router using a wired Ethernet cable connection if you want the Express to provide more wireless signal coverage.

  • Add Air Port Express to existing wired Linksys router? Or..

Should I buy a new, non-mac wireless router to connect a new MacBook (wireless) and an existing PC (wired). Air tunes is not a priority.
I'm primarily interested in what would be the best setup, but if adding Air Port Express to an existing Lynksys is a major pain, that would factor into my decision.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
I use a Netgear WGR614 with my 2 PCs and 2 Macs and it works very nicely. It is going for $39 at Best Buy right now.
Since the network is already set up, just swap the Linksys for the Netgear and add your WPA key to secure the wireless and you are set.

  • Share snapshots here, Air Port Extreme and 2 Air Port Express are working

is there a way to attach snapshots here
after 1 week I fig out how to get it to work in windows XP using my FIOS router and my Air Port Extreme, but before anything make sure you have the MAC address of all the Apple devices
As I config my devices(Air Port Extreme and 2 Air Port Express) I took snapshots since I did not want to go through this again

Unfortunately, if the light is out, the outboard power supply has failed, or the internal power supply has failed.
If you have a voltage tester, check the outboard power supply for 12 volts. If it delivers 12 volts, then the internal power supply on the AirPort Extreme has failed, and you will need to replace the AirPort Extreme.
If the outboard power supply does not work, you might be able to replace that outboard power supply to get things working again.
Take the AirPort Extreme to an Apple Store....if you have one near you.....to let them take a look.

  • I have a time capsule and two air port expresses. The time capsule is in the middle of my house, the expresses equidistant in opposite directions. I would like the expresses to both connect directly to the capsule, but they are connected in serial. How?

I have a time capsule and two air port expresses. The time capsule is in the middle of my house, the expresses equidistant in opposite directions. I would like the expresses to both connect directly to the capsule, but they are connected in serial. How to reconfigure.
I ask because I have music running out of both expresses, and the one that is most distant from the time capsule (routed through the first express) regularly drops the music signal from itunes. And I am guessing the serial configuration of the routers has something to do with this, but my root problem is music dropout - any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you have the the most current model of the Express devices, the default setup is to "extend" the wireless signal.  In this type of setup, each Express communicates directly to the Time Capsule.
How did you setup the AirPort Express devices?
What version of the Mac operating system are you using on your MacBook?   Or, do you have AirPort Utility installed on your iPad?

  • My Air port is not working the wifi - just an amber light blinking. What's going on ?

My air port is not working the wifi - just an amber light blinking. What's going on ?

Sorry it is just not enough info to be able to figure it out.
Do a full factory reset and start over.. that is the best way out of the hole.
Using ethernet is far far superior to using wireless at least for setup.
Using iOS device with airport utility is better than using wireless via a Mac with airport utility if you have MBA or MBPr.. but it is still better to buy a usb or thunderbolt to ethernet dongle so you have actual real connection and not a vapourous one.

  • Air Port Express Configuration

Hi   I am sure that this is a dumb question but hopefully someone will be able to assist me.
At my home I have three Air Port Express adaptors  - one as a base station, the others as repeaters to extend the range of the signal.  These have been configured to use the IP range 10.0.0.x and have been working OK.    The base station adaptor is both connected via a ethernet cable to my ADSL router, and is set to manage DHCP.
Over the weekend I have occasion to look at the settings for my ADSL router, I am about to repace it and wanted to get all the settings for the new router.
I noticed that I have, as expected a dedicated IP address from my ISP, but that the internal IP range of the ADSL router was set to 192.168.0.x range.
Surely this is wrong, and it should be set to the same range as my Air Port Express units shouldn't it, and if so I am not quite sure how the network has worked all this time.
    Many thanks for any assistance
    A

I noticed that I have, as expected a dedicated IP address from my ISP, but that the internal IP range of the ADSL router was set to 192.168.0.x range.

In your current network configuration, you have two routers in series, each with their DHCP server service enabled. Most non-Apple routers typically provide DHCP clients with IP addresses in the 192.168.n.n range and is exactly what your current ADSL router is doing.
Since you have the first AirPort Express Base Station (AX) directly connected to this ADSL router, it will receive an IP address on its WAN port in this 192.1689.n.n range, but since it too has DHCP server service active, any wireless clients connected to it would receive IP address in the 10.0.n.n range.
You would also have a "double NAT" condition. In itself this is not necessarily a bad thing, but does tend to introduce other issues, especially if you wish to share resources between clients connected to either router. In most cases, where you have routers in series, you would want to reconfigure the downstream router as a bridge.

  • Air Port Express Audio drop Out Problem

Hi I have just brought an Air Port Express home and spent the evening setting it up which went relatively smoothly, but once tested using the Optical out into an Musical Fidelity V3 X Dac (Digital to Analog Converter) the sound persistently jitters making music unlistenable, using conventional 3.5mm stereo jack output works fine it only seems to be on the optical.
Have read as much as I can find of use on the net but it seems either the optical out is faulty or incompatible with this DAC or some people have mentioned it might be the latest version of I tunes all my soft-wear is up to date.
Does anyone have a solution or should I return it or will anyone at Apple no what I`m talking about in the shop I got the impression they didn`t know anything about the Optical out.
    Any Help greatfully recieved.

You will need to try several different optical cables as they vary tremendously in their signal integrity. It is not unusual to see two identical cables from the same manufacturer perform very differently. Check out the store's return policy and try several different cables to see if you can find the right combination.
