Air port express wont connect to internet

I am trying to use air port express and everything is hooked up correctly, it shows internet is there connected etc. but when i try to click on safari it doesn't connect to the internet. I am connected directly to the internet provider kind of like direct hook up to the modem. my network setup is a bit different. but what it comes down to is the airport is wireless and it doesn't connect to the internet. anyone able to help me get the airport working ?

In order to get help you're going to have to describe your setup and your problem a bit better.
First, how is your network configured? how are all the devices connected (hardwire or wireless) and what models of devices are you using?
A typical setup has a cable or dsl modem that receives a signal from your internet provider. This device is then either directly connected ot a computer, if it's the only device requireing internet access, or it's connected to a router via an ethernet cable.  Depending on the type of router, the internet access is then shared via ethernet (hardwire) or wirelessly to other devices throughout the home.
How is your's set up?

  • Airport express wont connect to internet

i cant get my airport express to connect to the internet

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • What do I need to connect my new Yamaha RX-V671 receiver wirelessly to my Air Port Express?

I have just received my new Yamaha RX-V671 receiver and the only connection I have for the internet is by a network cable or by a USB slot.  I would like to hook this up wirelessly to my Air Port Express, I just need to know what I need to get so I can stream my itunes to this receiver.  My receive is roughly about 50 feet from my Air Port Express.

but what I was hoping to do is hook up my receiver wirelessly
Sorry, but if the receiver only has an Ethernet connection or USB...as you say....then you are going to have to use some kind of wireless-to-Ethernet adapter....like the AirPort Express that I suggested....or another similar product to accomplish your goal of providing a network connection to the receiver.
It would be wireless from your "main" AirPort Express to the second AirPort Express, with a short Ethernet cable from the second Express to the receiver.

I have a time capsule and two air port expresses. The time capsule is in the middle of my house, the expresses equidistant in opposite directions. I would like the expresses to both connect directly to the capsule, but they are connected in serial. How to reconfigure.
I ask because I have music running out of both expresses, and the one that is most distant from the time capsule (routed through the first express) regularly drops the music signal from itunes. And I am guessing the serial configuration of the routers has something to do with this, but my root problem is music dropout - any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you have the the most current model of the Express devices, the default setup is to "extend" the wireless signal.  In this type of setup, each Express communicates directly to the Time Capsule.
How did you setup the AirPort Express devices?
What version of the Mac operating system are you using on your MacBook?   Or, do you have AirPort Utility installed on your iPad?

I bought a Air Port Express device from Apple yesterday.  We decided to set the Air port device in a room near the router to use as a wifi extender to areas of the house where the signal is weak.  In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep.  he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house.  We have verizon DSL.  Our town is very small...no cable provided so we are lucky to have what we have...some areas of our town can't even get what we have.  We, didn't want to connect it directly to the Verizon device (router)....we followed the directions from Josh as well as the explicit directions provided by Apple support...it didn't work. We keep getting an error message.  Does anyone have any advice ?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Please speak in "Laymen's terms"  I am not technically savy....but..am determined to get this set up.  Thanks to anyone, in advance!

In our discussion with Josh, the Apple Rep.  he explained how it can either be connector to the router or use in another room relying on the existing wifi signal to extend it further into the house.
Unfortunately, it appears that Josh was not aware that the AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless signal from another Apple router.
    From Apple's literature:
Extend an existing Wi-Fi network’s range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range, AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express — and near the area where you want your wireless connection. Launch the easy-to-use AirPort Utility app on your iOS device or Mac, and you’re mere minutes away from long-range Wi-Fi enjoyment.
The AirPort Express is not compatible with a Verizon product for this purpose.
Your might want to have another conversation with Josh to ask his advice on how best to proceed at this point.
If you do decide to keep the AirPort Express, it will be necessary to connect it to your Verizon router using a wired Ethernet cable connection if you want the Express to provide more wireless signal coverage.

  • I have Verizon FIOS and I am trying to connect an Air Port Express to my Directv

I have Verizon FIOS and I am trying to connect my Air Port Express to my DirecTV.  My iMac does not see the airport express, even though the light is a solid green and connected to my HD-DVR.  Any ideas?

Assuming your modem is wireless use Airport Utility to configure the AEX to extend an existing network. The modem's wireless router should be configured to allow its network to be extended.

  • Air Port Express and Comcast

I have been trying with no success to get a connection with my Air Port Express and my comcast DSL internet. I am able to connect with a direct ethernet connection however, I don't want to be using my computer in my bed room all the time and would like the freedom. Does anyone know how to help me out. I spoke with Comcast they won't help as it is not their product...please anyone...

Unplug the modem from the power. Reset the AX to its factory defaults and reconfigure the base station using the AirPort Admin Utility. Your connection is via Ethernet and DHCP (your Comcast service is cable, not dsl, is it not?). If it is dsl, the connection method should be PPPoE. Tell the base station to distribute IP addresses using DHCP. Make sure your computer System Preferences>Network has PPPoE DISABLED. Plug the modem into the ethernet port of the AX. Now power up the modem. Can you connect?

  • Air port express conecting to a Hifidelio

Hi Guys this is my first post.
I have just recived a hifidelio music server and I was wanting to creat a WLAN. I have a aire port express however they do not seam to be liking each other. the hifidelio is picking up the signal however it is not allowing me to do anything withit!
I am trying to access my itunes this way. any help would be apreceated.

    Hi,
I'm using different network name, one for the Netgear router and another for the AirPort.
My intention is to use the AirPort for media playing (iTune) on my Stereo, and the PC connected to the AirPort should also have the possibility to be connected to the Internet. PC => AirPort=>Netgear=>Internet.
All other 8 PC:s & servers in my house are conected to the Internet via the Netgear router.
When running the AirPort config software and reading the Help Text I get the following info. "Solid Green = AirPort Express is on and working properly..." sorry I don't agree with you saying Flashing green indicates that your Airport is not correctly configured.
I have also opened the 5353 port in the firewall, but I still can't see the AirPort when scanning for wireless AP:s
    Anny suggestion how to proceed?

  • Changing the base station from Air Port Express to the Time Machine

Some years ago I bought an Air Port Express. I set it up to connect iTunes to my home stereo but it never worked very well and after a few months I gave up and put it in a draw.
Last year I bought a Time Machine and succesfully set it up. I also established a wireless network which connects to my PC and Blackberry.
Recently, I've been encouraged to try to set up the Air Port Express again. I had assumed that the Time Machine had been established as my base station and that I would now use the Airport Express as a wireless extender and try again to use it to connect to my home stereo.
However, in setting it up it become clear that my Air Port Express has the status of a base station with its own wireless network (which I don't want to use).
I can't figure out how to change the Time Machine so that IT is the base station and the Air Port Express is a secondary point connecting to wireless network created through the Time Machine.
Thank you in advance for any help or advice that you might have.
    LS

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, this older "g" device is really going to drag down the performance of your Time Capsule.
You'll need to use a WDS type configuration, which is an older "g" technology. The setup for this type of configuration is complex and difficult for most users. If you get the configuration right, there are still unfortunately going to be two big negatives with this type of setup.
    1) Since WDS is an older "g" technology, everything on your faster "n" Time Capsule will drop down to "g" level speeds. That's a huge loss.
    2) When you add the Express to the network, the bandwidth will drop by 50%
Bottom line...you would wind up with an older "g" wireless network throughout that would be operating at one half of it's capability.
If your budget allows, a new AirPort Express 802.11"n" would provide far better performance and would be much easier to configure for your network.

  • Air Port Express Configuration

Hi   I am sure that this is a dumb question but hopefully someone will be able to assist me.
At my home I have three Air Port Express adaptors  - one as a base station, the others as repeaters to extend the range of the signal.  These have been configured to use the IP range 10.0.0.x and have been working OK.    The base station adaptor is both connected via a ethernet cable to my ADSL router, and is set to manage DHCP.
Over the weekend I have occasion to look at the settings for my ADSL router, I am about to repace it and wanted to get all the settings for the new router.
I noticed that I have, as expected a dedicated IP address from my ISP, but that the internal IP range of the ADSL router was set to 192.168.0.x range.
Surely this is wrong, and it should be set to the same range as my Air Port Express units shouldn't it, and if so I am not quite sure how the network has worked all this time.
    Many thanks for any assistance
    A

In your current network configuration, you have two routers in series, each with their DHCP server service enabled. Most non-Apple routers typically provide DHCP clients with IP addresses in the 192.168.n.n range and is exactly what your current ADSL router is doing.
Since you have the first AirPort Express Base Station (AX) directly connected to this ADSL router, it will receive an IP address on its WAN port in this 192.1689.n.n range, but since it too has DHCP server service active, any wireless clients connected to it would receive IP address in the 10.0.n.n range.
You would also have a "double NAT" condition. In itself this is not necessarily a bad thing, but does tend to introduce other issues, especially if you wish to share resources between clients connected to either router. In most cases, where you have routers in series, you would want to reconfigure the downstream router as a bridge.

  • Air port express extending network, repeating from another express but losing signal in bedroom

I have an air port extreme and 4 air port express in my network. 2 of the airport express are repeating off an express and not the extreme. I have solid green lights all around, but I lose connectivity in master bedroom, even with an express in the room... 3 story building, extreme on first floor, bedroom on third....can anyone help?

WDS has so many downsides that I would avoid it if at all possible. For example, WDS only runs at "g" wireless speeds, so you lose the faster "n" speed capability of your entire network.....and bandwidth of the entire network would drop about 75%.
It's very difficult for most users to configure WDS as well.
I would really try very hard to experiment with different locations for your Express devices before I even considered WDS as a alternative.
I need to be offline for about a hour...so will not be able to respond for a bit to further questions

  • Air Port Express Admin Utility - Wanted!

    Hello all,
My Air Port Express has been running OK since I bought it about three weeks ago. It's connected to my hi-fi amp and the connection has worked (apart from some nasty harmonic distortion which I'm still trying to get rid of, but that's another issue).
However, the amber light on my AirPort is now flashing continuously and I cannot connect, even when I plugged the unit in right next to the PC. Now, here's a Catch-22: to find out more information about the error I need to consult the AirPort software. But.....I could not install the software from the CD as it doesn't run under Windows 2000, which is what I have.
The AirPort Express spec page says that to run the software under Windows 2000 I need to install the Air Port Admin utility, version 4.0 or later.
I have searched the Apple site for this and then the rest of the net but i CANNOT find anywhere I can download this software from.
    Can anybody help me?
I must emphasise that I am specifically looking for the AirPort Express Admin Utility V4.0 or later (apparently) to run under Windows 2000, not the actual AirPort software as that will not install under Win 2000.
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

Thanks very much for your reply.
If you go to the AirPort spec page:
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/specs.html
..and read footnote (1), it says:
"AirPort Express Assistant is not compatible with Windows 2000. To setup AirPort Express from a Windows 2000 computer, you must use AirPort Admin Utility for Windows version 4.0 or later."
This is the software I am looking for, but this is the ONLY reference to it I can find anywhere.
Regarding the CD that came with my AirPort, the whole point is that it will not install under Win 2000, only XP. I therefore have no AirPort software installed on my PC. You don't need the AirPort software to use Airport; you really only need it to configure the unit and troubleshoot when you have problems. Which is what I have now!
In case the above footnote has the version number wrong, can you give me a link to the 3.2 version?
    Many thanks
    Andy

You may have no need for additional but Apple does. They don't want your iTunes account to be hacked and then go complaining to them that their security procedures are not up to standards.
    Chick3597 wrote:
So how can I continue in the good old fashioned way?
Its really absurd to even ask this in light of the information that you have been given already. The "old fashioned" way is gone. It's Apple's store, Apples's rules and IMO - its a wise decision on Apple's part.
You do not have to comply at all, but you will not be able to purchase from iTunes anymore, but nobody is going to force you to do something that you do not want to do.

  • Add Air Port Express to existing wired Linksys router? Or..

Should I buy a new, non-mac wireless router to connect a new MacBook (wireless) and an existing PC (wired). Air tunes is not a priority.
I'm primarily interested in what would be the best setup, but if adding Air Port Express to an existing Lynksys is a major pain, that would factor into my decision.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
I use a Netgear WGR614 with my 2 PCs and 2 Macs and it works very nicely. It is going for $39 at Best Buy right now.
Since the network is already set up, just swap the Linksys for the Netgear and add your WPA key to secure the wireless and you are set.

  • Air port express can not been accessed

My OSX has been upgraded to 10.7.4, and use Air port express as my AP, my iPhone and iPad(even non-Apple product) can access the AP, but my Mac book pro can not access it, even airport utility can not find it. But the AP is shown on the menu bar on the top screen and can not be selected.
Sometime a dialog box displayed to ask for password. But I keyed in correct password and it shows connection timeout.

"Pulling" a folder refers to basically moving (or renaming) a folder that holds preference data that the OS will recreate if it can't find it. For instance, anything in the ~/Library/Preferences folder. It's useful when trying to isolate software issues because often these problems are just as a result of corrupted preference files.
When dealing with network preferences, the stuff you want is in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. That is to say, the ROOT library, accessed by going Finder>Go>Computer>Mac HD.
If you rename this whole folder to SystemConfiguration.old and then restart, the OS will create a fresh folder, which often resolves OS-related networking issues. From that point, you can either delete the SystemConfiguration.old folder, or name it back and then delete the new one if you want to start trying to individually isolate what went wrong.
If nothing changes at all when you rename or move the SystemConfiguration folder, then you're likely looking at some nasty interference issues. Try changing the channel on your Airport Express.
