Air port extreme and windows home server

How do I set up my Airport Extreme to allow me to remotely access my Windows Home Server 2003?

The following are the basics for setting up an 802.11n AirPorts for port mapping/forwarding:
AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the WHS.
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > DHCP tab
On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
Reserve address by: MAC Address
Click Continue.
MAC Address: <enter the MAC hardware address of the WHS>
IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
Click Done.
2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup >Advanced > Port Mapping tab
Click the "+" (Add) button
Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
Click "Continue"

  • Share snapshots here, Air Port Extreme and 2 Air Port Express are working

is there a way to attach snapshots here
after 1 week I fig out how to get it to work in windows XP using my FIOS router and my Air Port Extreme, but before anything make sure you have the MAC address of all the Apple devices
As I config my devices(Air Port Extreme and 2 Air Port Express) I took snapshots since I did not want to go through this again

Unfortunately, if the light is out, the outboard power supply has failed, or the internal power supply has failed.
If you have a voltage tester, check the outboard power supply for 12 volts. If it delivers 12 volts, then the internal power supply on the AirPort Extreme has failed, and you will need to replace the AirPort Extreme.
If the outboard power supply does not work, you might be able to replace that outboard power supply to get things working again.
Take the AirPort Extreme to an Apple Store....if you have one near you.....to let them take a look.

  • TS130 and Windows Home Server 2011

    Hello,
Just got a New TS130 1105B2U and am curious if anyone has used Windows Home Server 2011.  I did not see it on the list.
Also, I notice there is a 4TB cap on the drive support.  Is that only for the hardware RAID support?  Is it possible to install an additional drive controller in conjunction with the motherboard or is the cap based on the BIOS?
I looked around the forum but could not find an answer.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
Lenovo never announced support for Windows Home Server 2011.  As it was a consumer-oriented OS, it was not in-line with our strategy for those systems.  WHS2011 runs on core of Windows Server 2008 R2 and is the close cousin of Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials, both of which are fully qualified for use on ThinkServer TS130.   You should be able to find compatible drivers at support.lenovo.com using either of those as your match to get your server functional.
Support note: Lenovo would be unable to provide any level of support for the OS.  This does not impact your hardware support.  I'm going to guess you are familiar with these types of restictions since WHS2011 is only sold as an OEM licence.
As to your question about drive capacity, that must be an old revision of the manual.  Lenovo has since annouced 3TB drives, making 6TB the maximum capacity by the system given Lenovo ThinkServer-branded options in a 2-bay system.
Below are the drives available for ThinkServer TS130:
    0A89470
ThinkServer 500GB 3.5" 7.2K Enterprise SATA 6Gbps Cabled Hard Drive
    0A89471
ThinkServer 1TB 3.5" 7.2K Enterprise SATA 6Gbps Cabled Hard Drive
    0A89472

  • ITunes and Windows Home Server

This is probably a question for the Apple developers instead of the community of Apple product users, but here we go:
I'm involved in beta testing Microsoft's new Windows Home Server that's due for release in a few months, and so far it's looking like a much better solution than any network hard drive setups that I've seen so far. I've even put iTunes on it and have been testing syncing an iPod to it, and everything works great. The problem is that Home Server isn't designed to be a computer that people actually log directly into, either by sitting at the keyboard/mouse or by remote desktop. It has a special user interface for managing the server, as using the real tools can break the spiffy dumbed-down versions of stuff they've set up.
What I want to know is whether or not there are any plans for Apple to release a version of iTunes that will have a remote control function of sorts built in, so that playlists can be created, iPods synced and properly disconnected, and the library managed from a remote computer on the same network. Sharing the library isn't a problem. I've already put that feature to use and it works great. But I'd like to be able to sit at my laptop and manage the library stored on my server, via remote interface.
Of course, in keeping all of the content creators happy, the computers that control the remote iTunes setup would have to be authorized to play content from that library.
This could really just be a feature added to the library sharing function.
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Has anyone found a way around this?

  • LR photos, network storage and Windows Home Server photo sharing?

I'm trying to integrate my photos, now on a local desktop hard drive into my new Window Home Server network and Lightroom.
I've read up on network storage and LR.  I do have a question about photo sharing through Windows Home Server.  WHS has a Photos folder for sharing photos over the network.  I'm assuming that I should store LR related photos in another folder (I know about the catalog having to be on the local computer where LR resides) and then copy photos to be shared to the Photos folder?
I'm also wondering about the utility of having LR photos on the network storage and only accessing them through the local computer vs having photos on the local computer and having copies on the network.
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone about how they have organized LR, WHS and network storage.

  • New Air Port Extreme and old Air Port Express?

Just got my Air Port Extreme up an running. Is there any reason why my 4 year old Air Port Express would not work with the new Extreme?
The extreme saw briefly yesterday but today the computer doesn't see the express and the extreme only flashes with the orange light showing it has no signal.
Only thing that did change was I did the firmware update on the extreme.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Connect an ethernet cable from your computer directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Extreme. Open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup so the summary page is displayed.
Click on the amber dot and a message will appear with the reason for the flashing amber light on the Extreme. What is the message?
Regarding the Express, how do you plan to use it in your network?

just installed airport extreme and all iphones are on and good but not my laptop???????? used the laptop to install the wifi then deleted it from my laptop as soon as i had connection on my phones. plese help!!!!!!!!!!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, RipapArt!
Any ideas why this has suddenly happened...
Possibly a corrupted file. If you have not already done so, you might considered booting you computer from the Tiger Install disk, holding down the "c" key. Select your language and then from the Utilities menu, select Disk Utility.
In the left pane of Disk Utility, click on your hard disk. In the right pane, click the First Aid tab and then near the bottom click Repair Disk. If any errors are found, it will try to repair them. Re-run repair disk until it reports zero errors. Then click Repair Permissions. Afterwards, reboot the computer normally. Launch Disk Utility from the Utilities folder and Repair Permissions.
Launch a browser to see if you can get online. If the problem persists, launch System Preferences and then Network. Click Assist me and use the Assistant to create a new location and follow the prompts.

  • Time Machine and Windows Home Server 2011 - Why no worky? (Original WHS worked fine)

So I've had an original WHS (HP Mediasmart) for years, thought it was time to upgrade...built a new server using WHS 2011 and everything on the windows side works great.
I'm not a mac guy, so only mac in the house is my GF's which had no trouble backing up to my previous WHS mediasmart using time machine, it was perfectly happy with it.
With WHS 2011, it seems to absolutely hate it; but it REFUSES to give an error. Just goes to "preparing" for about 2-3 seconds then immediately back to "next backup at X time".
I've done the tweaks in terminal to allow it to use network drives for time machine (which I didn't have to do when it was backing up to the old mediasmart, so I'm assuming maybe the mediasmart installer for OSX did that itself?)...The mac sees the server, sees the share, I can copy data to it and from it, just time machine refuses to use it (it allows me to select the share as the backup drive, just doesn't actually backup to it).
I've also tried creating custom sparsebundle files in terminal per some online guides/how-to's to get it to work...no go...used the wired ethernet ports mac address and tried it with the wireless ones too...neither worked.
    What am I missing here?
    It's Mac OSX 10.5.8

    Mcdonsco,
Have you reviewed the logs on the computer you are trying to backup? What does it say in the console?

  • Air Port Extreme and Time Capsule Over the internet

Ok so here is my problem.
I have an Airport Extreme with my time capsule bridged to it for local storage, and more ethernet ports.
But I cannot seem to get file sharing to work over the internet with the time capsule.
I do not have the share over wan checkbox and I do not wan to use mobile me.
I also have a DYNDNS hostname to redirect to my ip.
This works if I turn on file sharing on my computer but I want to use the time capsule as my server not folders on my computer, im on my computer haha.
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Hello procom32. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Please check out the following article to see if it will help you. The author appears to have accomplished something very similar to what you are trying to do.

  • I have a new air port extreme and express.

Both devices are configured and have green light. The express doesnot seem to expand the network. I can stand next to it and get the same two bars as iI get without using only the extreme.

    Check your settings as follows:
Open AirPort Utility - select the AirPort Extreme - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab located just below the row of icons
Make sure that you have a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Update to save any changes
Open AirPort Utility - select the AirPort Express - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons....settings should look like this:
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the AirPort Extreme network
Check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
Wireless Security = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme network
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme network
    Confirm Password
    Update to save settings
    Check for proper operation

  • Air Port Extreme and G4 Mirror Door

I would like to add a G4 Mirror Door to my wireless network. What kind or card or device would I need to install in the G4 to get it to connect to the network?
    Here are my specs:
Wireless router: Export Extreme Base Station 802.11N
G4: OS 10.3.9; Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 1MB L3 cache per processor; No airport card insalled.
    G4 Mirror Door   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hello Joel Tarbox. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The Power Mac G4 w/ the Mirror Drive Door uses the original AirPort Card. Unfortunately, Apple no longer provides this card. However, you'll find a number of other Vendors that do with a quick Google-search.

  • How do I get MacBook Air to see Windows Home Server and show it in Finder?

New to Mac (having used Windows for years) so this may be a dumb question. Have a MacBook Air (new) and have a home network with a Windows Home Server on the network. I can't figure out how to get the MacBook Air to see the Windows Home Server. It doesn't show up in Finder and I think my lack of understanding of Mac OS it inhibiting me from figuring out how to get the MacBook Air to see the server and show it so I can navigate to the files on it, etc. Any suggestions on how to do this or where I can go to read about it to figure it out?
    Thanks!!!

If the Windows Home Server functions like a file server, try the following: From the Finder, Click the Go menu at the top of the screen, and choose Connect To Server. You will be presented with a dialog box to enter the server IP address.
You may also want to open the Preferences for the Finder from the File menu, and make sure connected servers are supposed to show up on the desktop and in Finder windows.
Disclaimer: I have not used a PC for 15 yrs, so this is general information. This is the process I use to connect to other Mac servers and to several online WebDav servers.

  • Can I use the new Air port extreme to scan, print, and share a hard drive?

I currently have a canon 3and1 pixma MP750 printer, and a lacie brick 250gb usb external drive. I'm looking into buying a airport extreme "n" base station and a apple tv to share all my music on my home theater. I'm also planning on updating my current system to an Imac 17" intel duo 2.18g. My question is will I be able to use the scan function on my printer with the air port extreme, or is there away to connect multiple computers to 1 printer? (ie emac directly to printer and airport extreme directly to printer via some product I may not know of) And do you for see any problems sharing the HD drive between the emac, a new imac and a windows based pc with xp operating system if connected throught the airport via usb hub to acomidate the printer as well as the HD?
Emac G4 1gig   Mac OS X (10.4.1)   Shopping for new mac

My question is will I be able to use the scan function on my printer with the air port extreme
Unfortunately, no. The new AirPort Extreme Base Station, like all other AirPort Base Stations, do not support the scan or copy features of "all-in-one" printers attached to their USB ports. This is primarily due to the fact that these features require two-way communications which the USB port does not support.
is there away to connect multiple computers to 1 printer?
Yes, if the printer is Ethernet-enabled, you can connect it to one of the AEBS's LAN ports...or use a Wireless Ethernet Bridge, like the Linksys WET54G to connect the printer wirelessly to the AEBS.
And do you for see any problems sharing the HD drive between the emac, a new imac and a windows based pc with xp operating system if connected throught the airport via usb hub to acomidate the printer as well as the HD?
No, the new AEBS should support this.

  • Windows Home Server and Apple TV 2

There are some old threads talking about Windows Home Server and the original Apple TV - the HP Windows Home Servers actually have excellent Mac support and out of the box with the Twonky Media Server that is bundled with the HP WIndows Home Servers would stream to the original Apple TV with no issue.
The wrinkle is the Apple TV 2 requires Home Sharing. I'm not going to debate good/bad - it is what it is. I was searching for a way to get my WHS working with my Apple TV 2 since I'm finally getting around to automating the transcoding of my Tivo files and I would much rather my WHS be my media server than my Mac. I came across this article that seems perfectly reasonable:
    http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/topic/16359-whs-and-apple-tv-v2/
I haven't tried it yet, but it seems perfectly reasonable. Has anyone else tried it? I'll report back either way - if I remember to

"But can it be both simultaneously?
Both a server and a media machine that is showing a movie on your TV?"
    Yes it can, no problems.
The Mini Server OSX is pretty much the same as the client Snow Leopard, complete with Front Row, iTunes, Mail, Safari etc, but no iLife09 supplied - you will have to pay extra for that.
It will do everything that Snow Leopard will do but has all the server capabilities too if you know how to set it up/use the software.
The only things I had trouble with was I can't find Migration Assistant and a strange quirk is that it won't share a USB connected printer across a network! No sign of printer sharing in System prefs but I guess you can do it via the Server config somewhere...
I just used CUPS to enable Bonjour printer sharing - works fine
I have been able to insatll everything I had on my previous CoreDuo Mini including Final Cut Express, iLife09, EyeTV, some bit torrent stuff - all works fine...
I really like the fact that I can plug two monitors in - I have the MiniDVI connected to a 50" plasma and 1080p Projector (using an HDMI splitter), the Mini Display port feeds a separate 20" widescreen monitor - when the plasma/PJ is switched off the main display automatically switches back to the 20" monitor
All in all this MiniServer is a great little HTPC - powerful and silent with 1TB of storage. The Server software is a bonus I haven't even looked at as yet

  • Windows Home Server 2011, uPnP and HH2

Hi. Just connected a new Windows Home Server 2011 based server to my network. When trying to setup the server for remote access, the server, after attempying to setup the HH2 reports that the router "doesn't support uPnP". Any ideas?

I am sure that it does. Look under "game and application sharing", on the hub menu, there should be an option to enable uPnP.
Alternatively you will have to map ports manually.
