Air Port Working Again

For some strange reason, Air Port has been working normal (good connection) for about 3 days now. No major dropouts, maybe a seldom drop from 4 bars to 3 or 2 for a brief second or two, but, then back to full signal, with internet connection. I have done nothing to attempt to correct this. Same settings, same router connections.

Update: FWIW; still going strong for 6 days now. No explanation for why this is working like it did for the first year and a half (purchased 5/06). Could it possibly be external interference? Or, now lack of it?

  • Changing the base station from Air Port Express to the Time Machine

Some years ago I bought an Air Port Express. I set it up to connect iTunes to my home stereo but it never worked very well and after a few months I gave up and put it in a draw.
Last year I bought a Time Machine and succesfully set it up. I also established a wireless network which connects to my PC and Blackberry.
Recently, I've been encouraged to try to set up the Air Port Express again. I had assumed that the Time Machine had been established as my base station and that I would now use the Airport Express as a wireless extender and try again to use it to connect to my home stereo.
However, in setting it up it become clear that my Air Port Express has the status of a base station with its own wireless network (which I don't want to use).
I can't figure out how to change the Time Machine so that IT is the base station and the Air Port Express is a secondary point connecting to wireless network created through the Time Machine.
Thank you in advance for any help or advice that you might have.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, this older "g" device is really going to drag down the performance of your Time Capsule.
You'll need to use a WDS type configuration, which is an older "g" technology. The setup for this type of configuration is complex and difficult for most users. If you get the configuration right, there are still unfortunately going to be two big negatives with this type of setup.
    1) Since WDS is an older "g" technology, everything on your faster "n" Time Capsule will drop down to "g" level speeds. That's a huge loss.
    2) When you add the Express to the network, the bandwidth will drop by 50%
Bottom line...you would wind up with an older "g" wireless network throughout that would be operating at one half of it's capability.
If your budget allows, a new AirPort Express 802.11"n" would provide far better performance and would be much easier to configure for your network.

  • Air Port acts up at will

On my MacBook (white, 13"), the Air Port works (or doesn't) at will. I work the thing in 2 different locations, with 2 different routers, but the common denominator is random losses of connection (switching from fully connected to no router). Other than tossing the thing out of an airplane, can you think of anything to do?
Since I'm not here all the time, I wouldn't mind a message per e-mail ([email protected])

I'm having the issue as yours and I'm an owner of a 1st Gen MacBook... I'm wondering if these AirPort issue are related with this generation in particular. If you get solved your problem, please share here with us. Thank you!

  • Slow Air Port Connection with Macbook

I have an unusual problem with using my Air Port Extreme with my wireless router. When connected with my wireless router, my internet connections are extremely slow. Other devices in the house work fine with my router (PCs, iPod, WII, etc.) My Air Port works fine with other wireless routers. The wireless router is connected to a cable modem and when I connect directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable (bypass the wireless router), all works fine. The problem only seems to be with my Macbook and my router. Safari and Firefox are affected, although Safari seems to run much slower than Firefox. Any ideas???

Sounds like it is not getting a great WiFi conneciton.  Streaming video is not tolorant of anyting other than a perfect connection.   You need a newer WiFi routner to support streaming video.  If you have one that supports the N standard then I would try resetting your Wifi router.

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

    I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
    Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi!
I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

  • Share snapshots here, Air Port Extreme and 2 Air Port Express are working

is there a way to attach snapshots here
after 1 week I fig out how to get it to work in windows XP using my FIOS router and my Air Port Extreme, but before anything make sure you have the MAC address of all the Apple devices
As I config my devices(Air Port Extreme and 2 Air Port Express) I took snapshots since I did not want to go through this again

Unfortunately, if the light is out, the outboard power supply has failed, or the internal power supply has failed.
If you have a voltage tester, check the outboard power supply for 12 volts. If it delivers 12 volts, then the internal power supply on the AirPort Extreme has failed, and you will need to replace the AirPort Extreme.
If the outboard power supply does not work, you might be able to replace that outboard power supply to get things working again.
Take the AirPort Extreme to an Apple Store....if you have one near you.....to let them take a look.

  • HT3546 How do I set up my air port extreme to do port forwarding? Running 10.7.4 I have a IP camera on my local wireless net work that I want to use from my iPhone 4s and other computers.

How do I set up my air port extreme to do port forwarding? Running 10.7.4 I have a IP camera on my local wireless net work that I want to use from my iPhone 4s and other computers.

In most cable systems, the router you have will plug into your modem and just work automatically. A NAT (Network Address Translation) router takes your external IP and hands out LAN (Local Area Network) based IPs. All of the devices you are working with right now should handle the change automatically unless you've changed from the default automatic configuration.
The problem with your wireless end of this is that the iPhone is not yet 802.11n, only 802.11g. Because that router is not dual band, all of your wifi devices will be forced to slow down to 802.11g speeds. This won't matter much for each device that's connecting to the internet, as your bottleneck is still going to be there. Where you will see slowdowns is device to device connections, like transferring data between the devices.

  • My Air port is not working the wifi - just an amber light blinking. What's going on ?

My air port is not working the wifi - just an amber light blinking. What's going on ?

Sorry it is just not enough info to be able to figure it out.
Do a full factory reset and start over.. that is the best way out of the hole.
Using ethernet is far far superior to using wireless at least for setup.
Using iOS device with airport utility is better than using wireless via a Mac with airport utility if you have MBA or MBPr.. but it is still better to buy a usb or thunderbolt to ethernet dongle so you have actual real connection and not a vapourous one.

  • New Air Port Time Capsule Not Working With Old Airport Express

I have been running a home network comprised of a Air Port Time Capsule (A1254) and 5 ea Air Port Express (A1264) for several years with no problem.
The Air Port Time Capsule (A1254) died and I replaced it with an Air Port Time (A1470). Now none of the Air Port Express (A1264) work, all flashing yellow. All other network functions seem to work okay, Time Capsule Backup, Apple TV, Internet …
I am using AirPortUtility 6.3.1 for setup but do not see any way to setup the Air Port Express.

Reset the Express to factory and start over.. they should work.. are you using all 5 in extend wireless mode?
When you reset the Express click on the wifi icon in the top menu area.. and the newly reset AEx will appear in the list.. click it and Airport utility will open and attempt to automagically connect it to the TC.

  • Air Port not working any more

I routinely connect and disconnect my iBook G4 from my cable modem. With each transition it takes a few seconds for the machine to reconfigure how it is accessing the internet, but then everything is fine.
Well, for whatever reason I cannot figure out, now when I disconnect my computer I'm unable to aquire a wireless signal.
I have a Linksys router hooked up, and it is working, but for some reason my Air Port isn't reading it anymore.
I try checking the network settings, but it still doesn't fix it.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you,
    Jon
PS - Please let me know if there are any other details about my set-up that you need to know to help figure out my problem. Somehow I'm sure this will boil down to "User error", but I just don't know where I'm going wrong. I'm not doing anything different than I have before.

This will be a funny question, but it's better to ask. After you disconnected your iBook from cable modem, did you plug the ethernet cable to your router? I believed it's also a good practice to completely turn off your cable modem and your router while swapping/plugging the ethernet cable from your modem to your router.

  • The air port on my imac went off and i can not get it to work

my air port on the imac weny off and i can not get it to work now

Apple used to use airport name for everything.. is this the internal wireless card?? Or external airport router?
If it is the internal wireless card, is it still listed in system profile.. and do a hardware test with your original CD.
    See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
The problems with Mavericks are very great.. if you upgrade installed anything can happen.. a common feature is the internal wireless card fails to work.
Give details and we can figure it out.
Here is discussion about the same thing as I think has happened to your imac in macbook.

  • Can't get the Kodak 5100 printer to work with air port

Any one know how to get the Kodak 5100 to work from air port on this Time Capsule. I have tried all the other things I have read but this thing will not print. I run a network diagnostics and it tells me server failed. And the way I feel Apple can take the Time Capsule back, so many problems took two days to get it up and running. Did Apple make this peice of junk.

i couldn't be happier with my TC, really.
+I have tried all the other things I have read but this thing will not print+
    well, what have you tried?
did you delete your printer from the printer list (- sign), and re-add it (+ sign)?
+so many problems took two days to get it up and running+
was the user error, or TC's fault? you got it working, so it doesn't sound like it was TC.

Snow Leopard breaks quite a few drivers - my Canon exhibited the same problem.
I eventually found updated drivers on the Canon website. You can try that with the HP, but if the all-in-one is more than a year or so old, don't hold your breath.
You can also try Software Update to see if it will offer new drivers, or failing that go to the Support Downloads site and search for HP updates.
In fact there's a new one for HP at the top of the list just now.
You may not necessarily want the latest one, though - check the specs to see if your model is covered; if not, search for the previous update etc.

    Hello King Cutway
If you are having issues with the functions keys, then check the settings in System Preferences > Keyboard and look to see if Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys is unchecked so you can use it properly.
