Air Print always uses photo tray on C410b

When I try to print documents using Air Print from my iPad the C410b  always defaults to the photo tray. Ok if I want to print a small photograph but I also need to print photos (and other documents)  at A4 size. I have set the 'Main Tray' as the default in the 'Preferences' menu but it makes no difference. The Air Print App on the iPad should allow paper (or tray) preferences to be set but doesn't.
Apple advised that this feature is enabled by the printer not the App.
Any suggestions?

Hello Manjra,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
From my experience, the AirPrint driver does not allow you to do such adjustments. AirPrint limits the paper to; 4x6 for photos and letter for documents. The AirPrint drivers decides this by the App used to open the document. For Example, when you open the Photo Gallery on the iPad, it is going to send the print command as a photo and require 4x6 photo paper in the tray.
If you would like more control over the print setting, please try the HP ePrint App.

  • My printer has stop printing from the photo tray. I need to place the photo stock in the main tray

I've a HP PhotoSmart Plus printer B210a.  The printer will no longer print from the photo tray.  I'm still able to get prints; but I must place the photo stock in the main tray.  It becomes a problem, because I sometimes forget the photo stock is the main tray and I waste photo stock when I do my regular printing and only get part it because the photo was still in the tray.  Anyway to fix this?

    Hi there wmcook,
Could you provide the community with a little more information to help narrow troubleshooting? What operating system are you using and are there any errors when attempting to print from the photo tray?

  • Any easy way to print envelopes from photo tray?

I have a new C309 printer that works well printing from three different PCs.  What I want to do is load the photo tray with a few #10 envelopes so that I can print one without having to change out paper in the main tray.
The problem is, by the time I make the changes to Properties to print from the photo tray, I might as well have swapped things in the main tray.  (I have to declare that I'm printing postcards or it won't let me specify the photo tray).
Does anyone have a suggestion for how to multiplex between printing letters and printing envelopes?

Address Book itself has the ability to print out labels - I'm not sure whether you have OS X 10.4 or 10.5, but there are more options in 10.5. From Address Book, select your desired addresses (or make a group of them and select that) and go to File - Print. You'll see the label options there.

  • My Photosmart C309g printer ALWAYS uses the photo black cartridge

I have a photosmart Premium C309g, wireless network connected to an iMac  running OS 10.7.2. I use the printer only occasionally to print photos - I have a smaller HP printer for photos. However the C309g always uses the Photo Black cartridge for print jobs. The printer will not operate without a cartridge fitted. But Photo Black is more expensive! How do I make the printer use the ordinary black cartridge for text jobs?

    Hello,
Thanks for the post, great question.  I've attached a link below that may assist with this, it refers to MAC OS X 10.5/10.6 but the idea remains the same.  Good Luck!

  • Cannot print out of photo tray-C6380

All settings say to pull paper out of photo tray. I have a custom size and have that entered. Every box is checked that should be checked, but no matter what, it keeps pulling paper from the main tray! I'm going nuts here! I've printed this item previously with no problem and the same settings. Any suggestions? Thank you!!

Awesome, glad it's working now! You're welcome!

  • Printer Default to Photo Tray

Hello all, I am trying to change my printer's default settings. I need to change the default paper size from "US Letter" to 4x6. It is a HP Printer. I am printing files via Applescript. An applescript command or just a way to change the default setting would be great.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

How do I print in black and white?  not sure where to change that.  It used to show up in the print box but there doesn't seem to be in the pop up that comes with this software?
Can I print a full page photo?  How do I go around the print tray?

  • How to configure printer to use bypass tray when printing legal paper and envelopes?

I have a new Phaser 3610. Tray 1 - contains Letter paperBypass Tray - Legal paper and sometimes envelopes How do I configure my printer to know when to use the bypass tray for legal paper when I that is what I want to print to from Excel?  In Excel, I have legal selected but it is still pulling the paper from tray 1 instead. I also print envelopes occasionally.  If I stick an envelopoe in the bypass tray, I want it to print from there like when using Word to create enveloples, instead it is pulling it from Tray 1. I have tried to adjust both settings on the Printer control panel and the Xerox printer software.  I have had no luck.

    Hi burnsey23,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. Please take a look at the solution for using smaller paper in the bypass tray.  I know it says smaller but use the same steps for larger paper as well.  Also make sure that the orientation on Excel is set to the orientation that corresponds to the way the paper is loaded in the tray.  If this does not help please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.

  • HP Envy 7640 won't print photos from photo tray using MacBook Pro

My new HP Envy 7640 will not print photo's from the photo tray. The photo tray option is not highlighted to choose it. I have restarted both the HP and MacPro several time. What am I missing?

    Hello @MEMEF,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to work with you today with resolving the Photo Tray printing option issue that you're experiencing when printing from your Mac OS X computer to your HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer. Due to the lack of Photo Tray options there is a chance that your HP Envy print driver is not being properly utilized on the Mac Computer. However, in order for me to provide you with accurate support on the Mac I do need to confirm what version of the Mac Operating System you're using?
In the meantime, I am going to have you check on your Mac to ensure that the HP Envy driver is selected and not the Apple AirPrint driver. The AirPrint driver is a generic driver offered by Apple to allow for basic printing ability. Because it is not a Full Feature driver that comes with your printer you may not have all the printing features that you should have on your printer. To check the driver please follow the steps below.
    1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
    2. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list.
    3. If your printer is already listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication with the Mac. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer
    4. Click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer
    5. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Ensure that you have the HP Envy driver selected and not the AirPrint.
    6. Click Add to add the printer to the list.
    - Source
The options may differ on your Mac if you're running an earlier Operating System.
Once the correct driver has been verified as added in, please try printing to your Photo Tray again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should the issue persist, be sure to include your Operating System in your next post. Best of luck!

It depends upon the capabilities of your printer. If you have an HP printer with a photo tray then the Photo app will print to whatever size you load in to that tray.
    There's some more information here:
Using AirPrint to Print Various Photo Sizes
With other printers the user is given a choice from the printer's loaded paper sizes. You can see an example of that here:

  • How can I print from my ipad to the plain paper tray not the photo tray?

    I have a new
    HP Photosmart Plus All-in-One Printer - B209a
and an ipad on my showroom floor.
I let my customers use the ipad to browse through photos of items that are not on display, then print some of the photos. Right now the print job always goes to the photo tray - but I want it to print on plain letter size paper.  If there is no photo paper in the tray, the print job fails with an out of paper error.
Is there a way to get this printer to print photos from the ipad photos app onto the standard paper tray?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me.
    Richard

Photos will always print from the photo tray, if the printer has one. This cannot be configured by the user currently.

  • Printing from IPad or Iphone always goes to tray 1 but tray 2 is the default tray.

    Product Name: OfficeJet 8500A Plus
Op Systems: Win 7 & Apple Ipad and Iphone and MAC
    Error messages: None
    Changes: never worked, no changes
I have two trays in my printer.  Tray 1 is used for envelopes and tray 2 is standard letter paper.  Tray 2 is the default tray for normal printing and works perfectly from my Windows 7 Desktop.Tray 1 is the only one that can handle envelopes so there is no choice on which tray to use.
However, when I try to print from my IPad, IPone or my wife's MAC, the print always goes to tray 1 which contains only envelopes.
There does not seem to be any options in the IPad or Iphone to select a tray but I would have thought it would go to the default tray that is setup in the printer.
Because of this, it makes the eprint capability of the officejet 8500A Plus useless.  I love having the top tray for envelopes but I am not sure I would have purchased the two tray option if I had know of this difficulty ahead of time.
    Looking forward to your reply

Sorry, the first part referred to the Mac OS X only,
If you don't have ePrint Home & Biz installed, follow the steps below to get the app:

Once the app been installed you may shange the tray settings as following:
If the HP product has more than one paper tray, you can select the tray that you want to print from.
NOTE:HP ePrint Home & Biz automatically selects the photo tray if it is available and you are printing photos. If the photo tray is not available, photos print from the main tray.
On your mobile device, tap HP ePrint Home & Biz .
Figure 5: The HP ePrint Home & Biz icon
Open the image or document that you want to print.
Tap the Print Settings icon ( ) or ( ) at the bottom of the Print Preview screen, and then tap the HP product name.

  • Can't print from photo tray and can't set my usual margins

I have a Photosmar tD7560 printer.  My computer is an HP Pavillion e9120y PC, recently upgraded from Vista Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 7 home premium 64 bit (clean install). The printer was not compatible with Windows 7 but the issue was resolved here when I was advised by a member to download a fix.  (Thanks again!)
I have printed with no problem until today when I tried to print out a 4x6 index card from the photo tray.  I set the paper size to 4x6 but when I tried to print it, i got an out of paper message. I put paper in the main tray and it printed from there.
Also, suddenly I cannot reset my bottom margin to .5 inches, it must be.59 or greater.  This happened after I tried to print from the photo tray because before, I was able to set a .5 inch margin.  (This is in Word 2003)
I hope someone can help with this!

    Hello AnnArritola,
Welcome to the HP Forums! The HP Officejet 5745 printer defaults to the main paper try. Printing using the printer’s dedicated photo tray can be accomplished by accessing the print driver and selecting the photo tray before printing. Below is a support document that should help with the necessary steps.

p.s. A quicker method once you’re in the printer driver is to go to the shortcuts tab and select photo printing (this will automatically select the dedicated photo tray).

  • New HP Photosmart 7520 won't print from photo tray

EDIT:  It will feed from the phototray if I print the photo from the Windows Photo Viewer.  However, it still refuses to print straight from the jpg, even though I explicitly specify in all the settings that I want to print a 4x6 from the photo tray. Is this typical behavior? I assume it would print correctly from other photo editing and viewing software, but haven't checked that yet so cannot be certain. PREVIOUS POST: I just got this printer, and cannot make it print from the photo tray.  It printed from the phototray during the installation and setup, but that was the only time.  The rest of the time, when I try to print a picture, it only selects from the regular paper tray. Is there some magical procedure involved?  I have a Windows 7 operating system, and just installed everything from the HP site.  I uninstalled and reinstalled, but still it doesn't work. I load a sheet in the phototray, make sure the correct printer is set, select the paper size (in this case 4x6in, the sample photo paper that came with the printer), select HP Everyday Photo Paper, Glossy, click Print, and the printer ignores the phototray and prints from the regular paper tray. I have scoured the web and the answers provided do not solve the problem.  This is very frustrating.  If I cannot get this resolved in another day or two, I will be returning this printer and will try a different brand.

I have already looked at that link and tried all the things I can try at home, aside from replacing the print heads.  Nothing works.  The magenta seems to be the biggest offender.  When I print photos that have a lot of magenta in them, I also get the horizontal lines, so it is not just the regular paper used by the printer's quality report (my first suspicion, sadly proven wrong). I see now that this printer also cuts off the image when printing a borderless photo.  I have not found a solution for that yet, either.  It also went crazy in the middle of a print job (told me that I needed to power it off, lost its wireless connection, regained its connection, but would not talk to the computer).  I had to turn it off and on again to reset it, and after that it seemed to print, at least. This printer has been a very expensive mistake, considering the ink and paper I have gone through in the past week.  I have four days to decide if I want to return it and just eat the cost of the ink cartridges.  I am seriously considering it at this point, but will try to work things out for another day or two.

  • HP C6380 photo tray prints only green

The problem started when I installed my new computer with Windows 7. The photo tray prints only in green. I tried to print from the photo tray from various programs with the same result, so the printer must be the problem. I downloaded and installed the 2009-10-20 software and driver version 13.1.0 which did not correct the problem. I also ran the HP printer problem detection tool and got no help there. Please help me. I use this feature often. By the way, I posted this same question a short time again and it has disappeared. Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • How do I select main input tray to print photo over ePrint and not photo tray?

when I send a picture from my Iphone the printer always wants to take paper from the photo tray ,despite that it's set up to take paper from the main tray.

    Hey AndreBielser!
Unfortunately there isn't a way to select the paper tray through ePrint at this time. Photos will always try to print to the photo tray. The only way I have seen that you can get around this is by including the photo in the body of the message instead of as an attachment. I will definitely pass on the information that this is something you are looking for as a feature of ePrint though!
    Hope this helps!
