Air printing from an iPad without wifi service

Hi
I only have an iPad2 . I don't have a computer or wireless net work at my home. Will an air port express allow me to print to my wireless Epson Artisan 730 directly without wifi service at my home? And why doesn't my iPad recognize my printer?  I thought I would be able to print directly from my iPad2 to my printer which is a compatible air printer with the iPad. Thanks for any help.

The iPad and Airprint printer must be on the same Wifi network.  If you don't have a Wifi network, you won't be able to use AirPrint.  In other words, the iPad does not communicate directly with the printer.
Regarding the AEX, you may be able to use it to set up a small Wifi network, from which you could connect the iPad and the Artisan 730 via AirPrint.  One potential issue is that you likely will have to upgrade the firmware in the Printer in order to use AirPrint, and you would need internet access to get that upgrade.  Since you do not own a computer, I assume you do not have internet access either?

  • Printing from an iPad without a WiFi Connection?

Alright, gonna see if I can get a solid answer to the golden question, "Can you print from the iPad without having an active WiFi network?"
Just got a 3G iPad 2 for my uncle.  He loves it.  He wants to print, but lives in a very rural area, and they have never had internet before the iPad.  I have seen two possible answers, so maybe someone out there could clarify?
1.) Connect to a printer that has the ability to create an ad-hoc wireless network. One post referred to the HP Envy as a solution to this.
2.) Connect an airprint enabled printer (he bought an HP Photosmart 5514) to an AirPort Express and setup an ad-hoc wireless network.
         - I don't think #2 is possible, unless you can setup an ad-hoc wireless network using Apple's Airport Utility directly from the iPad and not a computer.
         - The printer my uncle bought (HP Photosmart 5514) IS on Apple's AirPrint supported list (with a firmware update perhaps?).
Just looking to clear the air and get an answer.  I was thinking of having him return the HP Photosmart and getting an HP Envy if this is a possibility.   That way, he can join the Envy's ad-hoc wireless network when he needed to print, and re-join the 3G network when he wanted to browse.
Hoping to figure this out for him! Thanks in advance!

I have solved this exact requirement by purchasing an HP Photosmart 6520 wireless printer.  Works like a charm.
I have an iPad with 4G cellular, and I have no wireless router for Internet in the house.  My only Internet connection is 4G through Verizon cellular.  I have no wifi router, hence no wifi network.
The HP 6520 has a "Wireless Direct" mode, and the setup guide tells you exactly how to set it up for wireless printer if you have no wireless router.
You set up the wireless direct through the touchscreen menu, and the printer publishes its own SSID.
On the iPad, and also my iPhone, I connect to that wifi SSID.
Then using the iOS print apps in Mail, Safari, Photos, etc. - Print to the HP Photosmart and it works perfectly.
    No router needed at all.
And the cool part, I can print Photos from the iPad or iPhone to the Photosmart, which has a nice 4x6 photo paper tray, and the Apps and printer are smart enough to send it directly to the photo paper (vs. the normal 8x11 paper).
And this particular printer will print 2-sided if you want it to, and this option is presented to you in the iPad and iPhone printer dialogue.
This printer was $110 at Best Buy.  I am quite a happy camper.  Getting one now for my mother also who has iPad with 4G but no wireless router.

  • Print from my iPad without an air print

HOw can I print from my iPad without an air print? I have a hp wireless printer

Well, only because Apple originally advertised AirPrint to work with any printer connected to a computer on the same network, and then modified it before release to work only with the few compatible AirPrint printers. AirPrint Activator is a little application you install on your computer that basically restores the functionality that Apple was originally going to build in. Not sure if that's considered "illicit" on these boards.
    Here's the link:http://netputing.com/airprintactivator/
It's shareware. I've been using it for over a year now. If you're running Lion, you'll need to download the beta version 2. Once installed (and a few set-up steps are taken in your sharing preferences), your iDevices will see any printers connected locally or by network to your computer, through the normal AirPrint function.

  • Can I print from my iPad using wifi

Can I print from my iPad using wifi thanks

I know I can use Airprint and other solutions; that wasn't the point.  That will no doubt work from home but what use is that to me in other location?  I'm looking to print online purchase receipts, customer receipts, photos, emails etc.  Chances are I'll be doing all that from my PC anyway and will stick to that.  Why would I want to email my local printer and wait till it gets back to me?  And why would I want my PC on just to print?  Why wouldn't I just print direct from the PC?  I'm missing something here.   Why overcomplicate a direct process?
Would you be saying the same thing if mountain lion removes print access and you're told to use airprint?  No you won't!
I want to print emails etc from my ipad as I wander different offices, or different houses.  That other software did it (at a price I wasn't acepting) and I would assume someone else will build it in eventually,  I have to ask why Apple want this controlled through one channel (largely) and can only see it as another tie-in to some money garnering solution in due course.  It can't be processing or memory limitations as its 64Gb and Apple tell me it's a powerful gadget.
Time to see what my Asus will allow....  can't be this bad surely, but you never know.  Trusty networked HP6 laserjet (via jetdirect box) and Oficejet8000 (duplex) aint going to be replaced in the near future.  Trusty workhorses do all I want, efficiently, effectively, and cater for 4 users in this home.

  • How can I print from an iPad without using wireless?

I'm in a situation where I need to print something from the iPad, but will not be in a wireless network. Is there no utility that allows me to go directly from the iPad to any printer? I haven't purchased it yet, so I'm willing to get pretty much anything to make this work.

  • HT4356 all of a sudden I cannot air print from my ipad or iphone - I can still print from my laptop - don't know how to fix

All of a sudden i can no longer air print from my iphone 4S or my ipad 2
    Need help
I can still air print from my Dell laptop

    Hello rcappel,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when printing from your iPhone and iPad.  I found a couple of resources I recommend for the issue you described.
First, I recommend following these steps:
If you are unable to print, or if you see the message "No AirPrint Printers Found"
    Verify that the printer:
Has power and is turned on. If it has power, turn the printer off and then on again to see if that resolves the issue.
Is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the iOS device.
Has the latest firmware version installed.
Has paper with enough ink or toner installed.
Is free of any errors displayed on the printer's control panel.
If necessary, consult the printer documentation or contact the printer vendor for help with the above steps.
You can find the full article here:
    AirPrint Basics
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If you are still having trouble printing after following those steps, I recommend these steps:
Wi-Fi disconnects, or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.
You can find the full article here:

This makes sense.  If you log in as a guest, the network host might not want you to see a printer (in the general case).

I assume I have to make some printer adjustments.
I don't think so.  You simply need to log on to the network as a non-guest.

  • Air Printing from an iPad

    Hey Community
I'm looking for a mobile, chargable, 'airprint' enabled printer for my iPad Air. By "mobile" i mean about the size of a keyboard or smaller. Anyone know of anything close to this?
    Thanks!

  • When I air print from my iPad, I can't limit the number of pages. It just says print and the number of copies and I end up with way more than I want. How do I set it to limit the pages?

When I air print using FingerPrint from my ipad, it doesn't let me limit the number of pages, and I end up with more pages than I want. It asks if I want multiple copies, but it doesn't ask me number of pages, or which pages. Is there a way to do this?

When you use an AirPrint compatible printer, you get this option for page range. You are using your computer as the server in order to print, so you probably have to set the range on the computer. While you can print from your printer with this app, I assume that it doesn't give you the same control that you get directly from the iPad when using an AirPrint printer.
Read this from the FingerPrint support site. Selecting the page range would be part of the formatting of a print job.

If your printer doesn't support AirPrint then you could see if the printer manufacturer has their own app in the store that supports it e.g. Epson have an iPrint app, HP have an ePrint app. If they don't then you could try one of the third-party printer apps e.g. PrintCentral Pro, Print n Share etc

  • Air printing from Mac ipad

I mistakenly hit photo when I just want to print an image. I don't have photo paper but the printer has me locked
In a cycle requesting photo paper. How do I get out of this cycle?

    Hi @Ho2fman,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you tried to print a photo from your iPad and now the printer is requesting photo paper.
Please press the red ‘X’ on the front panel of the printer to cancel the print job. I suspect that you tried to print an image using Apple’s AirPrint which will always want to print from the photo tray. I have included Apple’s About AirPrint document.
To have more print options, like choosing plain paper instead of photo paper, please download and install the HP ePrint Mobile app from your app store. Please note that your iPad needs to be running iOS 6.0 or later. I have included the HP ePrint Mobile App FAQs document for reference.
