Air Tunes and Multi-Pass

I just started getting the Daily Show and I have AirTunes. When I play it, I wanted it to come over the spearks in the house so that everyone could hear. When I have iTunes switched from "computer" to the wireless AirTunes router, nothing happens. I can still play music either way, but not this video.
Any ideas why?

when you are using Air Tunes via Airport Express will
iTunes be pumping audio out the "Line Out"? i.e. will
the speaker attached to my computer be playing what's
playing in iTunes?
No
can I be listening to the stereo in the living room
(with Air Tunes) and have someone else be watching a
DVD on the computer?
Yes

  • H.264 and multi-pass

This is weird. I am using the preset for H.264 10.3 mbps on 1080i HDV. It is just fine, but very slow. I wanted to make a comparison to a single pass encode. The only thing I changed is the "multi-pass" check box. But, the bitrate drops to about 1.6 mbps, and of course it looks like poo.
This makes no sense to me. What is going on?

as well as YouTube sites.  Some of my files are up to an hour long, and above.
There are quite a few videos on YouTube that are up to 3 hours long.  If you are having issues uploading long YouTube movies, have you contacted their tech support?

  • Air tunes and extending my network

In reading the manual it sounds like this should work but I can not get it to
When I set up my AirPortExpress to "join my network" (AirPortExtreme from a TimeCapsule) air tunes works perfectly
But if I change to "extend my network" the APE restarts, green light comes on, AirPort Utility shows it and iTunes shows it in the lower right hand corner BUT when I try to switch to my APE it says connecting for a long time and APE disappears from APUtility - I think my network is extended (although I'm not positive on how to verify that) but my music will not play
    So :
1 - can you both extend a network and use air tunes at the same time?
2 - Any idea what I'm missing - I seem to be doing things ok and they look like they are working but are not for music

I cant tell you anything specific except air tunes is finicky. for example it does not work over ethernet.

  • AirPort Express with Air Tunes and wired router

Do any of you using AirPort Express with Air Tunes as a base station have it connected to a wired router, just as an added precaution?
    thanks,
    --h

As far as I know, AirPort Express w/tunes has a firewall, but a given router may offer more protection options than just a firewall. I'm wondering about security on the wired side of the connection, not the wireless side.

  • On TV Shows, what does "Buy Multi-Pass" mean?

I just bought "$9.99 Buy Multi-Pass" for a TV show. The store then downloaded 1 episode. There are eight available. iTunes store says I have NO downloads available. What did I buy for $9.99? One episode which normally costs $1.99? I can find NO explanation for "Buy Multi-Pass" anywhere on iTunes or Apple's web site.
I just need a simple explanation.
    Thanks

I have found a partial answer. By scrolling through "iTunes A to Z" which I found while clicking around on the iTunes tab on the Apple site (NOT by ANY search, NO search I performed resulted in any information whatsoever for "multi-pass".
Here is what it says about "Multi-Pass" which can be found way down several pages under the heading "Purchasing TV Shows:
    Season Pass and Multi-Pass
A Season Pass gets you a whole season of a TV show, past or present, at a discount. And Multi-Passes for shows that air every day, like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, mean you can enjoy a month’s worth of episodes downloaded automatically to your computer.1
It's shortcoming is that it doesn't explain when "a month's worth of episodes" starts ans ends. So, my new question is: Do I get all the shows starting the 18th of October through the 17th of November or do I just get through the end of October?
roaminggnome: Thanks! You helped me in that you encouraged me to dig a little deeper even though searching in the support box didn't yeild any useful results.

  • Itunes Multi-Pass

Hi, i am not getting too much info on this New Multi-pass option now
i was looking at The Daily show and i see that option
if i pay 9.99, does that i mean i will NEVER have to pay for downloading episodes again
or its only for the next 15? 30?

It is the equivalent to the "Season Pass" offered on shows that have traditional seasons. In the case of The Daily Show, the Multi-Pass "includes the most recent episode (if one is available) and the next 15 new episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Details for Season Passes and Multi-Passes are listed a little bit below the "Buy Multi-Pass" button (directly underneath the airdate and time).

  • Streaming Audio using Air Tunes during a presentation

    Hi Apple,
I would like to know is there an Air Tunes feature in Keynote? Or is Keynote Air tunes compliant? For example, if added audio to my Keynote presentations and I was presenting in an auditorium, the only thing the AV people would have to do is connect the audio out port from an Airport express to their audio setup. The presenter would be able to select Air Tunes streaming and stream the audio from Keynote to the attendees. No wires, no fuss, no mess...

This will work with a computer running Air Tunes and an Airport Express, but will not work with iPad. iPad does not have the same features in the iPod app that you see in iTunes for selecting Airport Express speakers.

  • Qmaster useful for multi-pass encoding?

The Compressor manual cautions several times against multi-pass submissions:
But with two-pass VBR and Multi-pass encoding, each segment is treated individually so the bit-rate allocation generated in the first pass for any one segment does not include information from the segments processed on other computers.
This would imply that Qmaster is not worthwhile on multi-pass processing. Exactly what does this warning mean?
    G5 Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2.5GB RAM

Multi Pass encoding means it looks at the media once before it encodes, and looks for the best place to put key frames, VBR is Variable Bit Rate and means that complex frames (like tree leaves blowing in the wind) get to use a higher bit rate then less complex frames (like talking heads in front of solid colors).
In the realm of Qmaster, if you allow Job Segmenting in your Multi-pass VBR setting, then each node will get it's own chunk (or segment) of the movie to work on, and will not be aware of information about other segments. Thus complex frames in a given segment can only "borrow" bitd from less complex frames in that same segment, and each node will do 2 passes only on it's segment, so in theory this misses optimizations that it could find if it was looking at the whole file.
If the segment breaks happen to fall during complex schenes, you will not get as good of an encode as you would in an unsegmented job.
That said, you can un-check 'allow job segmenting' in the compressor setting, and that eliminates this issue

  • Air Tunes to Extension

I recently set up a second airport extreme and chose to have it used for air tunes and not to extend my network. Now the reception in the rest of my house (not huge, only abou 1000 sq. ft.) is horrible. Can I set the 2nd airport as an extension in the utility application without reseting to factory settings?

If you have access to the Express then yes. You will need to set it up to participate in a WDS network.
In the express configuration under Airport/wireless tab select "Participate in a WDS Network". Then go to the Airport/WDS tab and set WDS mode to "WDS Remote", you will also need to put the MAC address of the WDS Main which will be the MAC address of the Airport Extreme.
You'll need to set the Airport Extreme up as the WDS Main. Go to the Extremes configuration and under airport/Wireless tab set it up to participate in a WDS network. Then go to Airport/WDS tab and set the WDS mode as WDS Main. You will also need to set the MAC address of the Airport expresses how ever many you have, in that same tab in the WDS remotes area.

  • Airport express: use internet and air tunes at the same time?

    Hi,
I'd like to use and airport express to create a wirelss network (and so use the internet) AND stream music to my stereo with air tunes - at the same time. Is this possible? So far, I have been able to create a wireless network (and use the internet) OR use the airport express to play music. But whenever my internet works, itune can't find the base station - claiming it "can't be found on the network?"
Can you do both at once?
I'm connecting to an ethernet jack (I'm at a college). It's not a cable modem or DSL. Is this the problem?
Under "music" in the utility configuration. I've selected "Enable Air tunes at the base station." I can't select "Enable Airtunes over ethernet port." When i try to change the network options to allow me to select this "ethernet port" option, I have to tell it how to "distribute IP" addresses. i don't know how to do this, and everything I've tried destroys my internet connection.
I appreciat any help you have to offer. thanks
    1.5 GHz PowerPC G4, 12'' powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    solution:
My problem ended up being specific to the network I'm using. There is evidently another router on the ethernet system that was assigning my airport express an IP address (192. ...), rather than letting the network DCHP give me a direct IP address (something like 160. ...). The 192 address made it impossible for iTunes to see my express base station, but I was getting internet, passed through this other router.
The fix - and I'm not sure if this is totally kosher - was to manually enter a correct IP address for my base station. I got the IP address by seeing what this other router was sending my computer to get onto the internet. It gave me the correct router and a workable (160. ...) IP address. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to manually pick an IP address on the ethernet, but this one is working for the time being, and now iTunes can find my base station.

  • Experiences With ATV and Season/Multi-Passes

I'm looking for some user experiences regarding AppleTV and Season/Multi-Passes purchased from iTunes, as well as podcasts etc. I've noticed some ATV owners issuing complaints in regards to new episodes not downloading properly, as well as having to to download to their computer before transferring to their ATV.
Since most folks won't post here unless there is a problem, its sometimes hard to gauge the actual frequency of an issue like this. So I put this to you, ATV owners/operators, lovers and haters: has the user experience of the ATV been mostly positive, or have problems like the one mentioned above reduced the functionality of the unit?
FYI, I'm currently looking into purchasing an AppleTV, but if I can't expect shows and podcasts to automatically download while I am away then I don't think this is the solution I'm looking for.
Thanks for your (hopefully thought out and balanced) opinions.

For the most part, the season/multi-passes I have subscribed to have worked as advertised. I receive e-mail notices and the new episodes download automatically to iTunes when they become available (this requires setting iTunes to check for new episodes automatically).
I have had a few problems in the past with not receiving notices or being able to retrieve new episodes that were online in the iTunes store, but not recently. I also had a big problem a few months ago with my iTunes store account becoming almost completely non-functional, but that was apparently the result of database corruption in the iTunes store that was fixed by iTunes store support after I complained about it.
The only ongoing problem I continue to have is that none of my multi-passes automatically renew even though I have them set to do so. I always get an e-mail message saying there was a problem renewing my multi-pass, but buying a new multi-pass manually always works. I have complained about this problem several times already, but it continues.

  • Using iPad air, iPod, iCLoud and WinPro 7 - I am not finding all my tunes and movies among all these devices.

When I orignally installed iTunes current update, and tried to move about the devices iTunes would crash. I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it. It seems to be stable, however as  before I am not finding all of my TUnes and Movies on all my devices.
    Any one?
    Thanks-

    Hey thomnj,
From what I understand, it sounds like after uninstalling and reinstalling your iTunes as a troubleshooting step, you're now missing some of your media? I would troubleshoot the issue with the steps in here:

  • TS3297 Multi-Pass gives a message that there is insufficient storage, and won't allow me to purchase a multi-pass, but there is 45GB of space available? How to fix this?

Trying to purchase a Multi-pass triggers a message that "their is insufficient memory" however there is MORE than 45GB of storage available. I can purchase individual shows but trying to buy a multi-pass always triggers this lack of memory message.

  • Multi-Pass question

    Hi,
I have a multi-pass for the Colbert Report. Today, I did not receive an email that the Monday show was ready for downloading. Should I assume that there was a repeat for this day? Is there anyway I can confirm this with Apple? I do not have access to any TV to know what is current or not.
    Thanks,

The time it takes them to post these shows is unacceptably erratic. Sometimes 4-6 hours after it airs, other times nearly 48 hours after it airs. The Daily Show and Colbert Report and both highly topical, so it ***** they wait this long to make them available. I got an e-mail from iTunes Support saying basically that the problem occurs upstream from Apple -- they have to wait for Comedy Central or whoever to pass it along to them. This may be true, but Apple needs to lean harder to make this a worthwhile subscription.
