Air Tunes Functionality Help

Here is my problem that I am hoping someone can help me with. I currently have a wireless network setup at home using a Belkin Wireless modem/router. This acts as the internet gateway and enables my computers (2 x mac mini, 1 x windows vista desktop and 1 x windows vista laptop) to get on the net and share files.
I have all my music on a mac mini downstairs next to the main TV in the lounge which is used as the monitor. I have run wires to speakers to all downstairs rooms and used a speaker box to select which speakers I want on and off.
I am now converting the garage (attached to the house) and want speakers in there but will not be able to add wires. Therefore can I buy an Airport Express Base Station to use with AirTunes? Will it connect to the exisitng wireless network? Does it need to? How will the AirTunes work? The information on the item is not clear.
Thanks in advance.
Mark

Hello markdw. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I am now converting the garage (attached to the house) and want speakers in there but will not be able to add wires. Therefore can I buy an Airport Express Base Station to use with AirTunes?
In order to use AirTunes with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), the AX will need to be physically connected to either powered speakers or an audio receiver. In addition, you will need the iTunes host computer connected to the AX either by wire or wirelessly. In your case, you will want to connect the AX wirelessly to your existing wireless network, provided by the Belkin.
Will it connect to the exisitng wireless network?
Yes, the AX should be able to connect to your Belkin as a wireless client in order to support AirTunes.
Does it need to?
No, you have two other options with the AX:
o Use its default configuration as a wireless router, and then, connect the computer, hosting iTunes, to connect to the AX's wireless network. This of course would mean that you would need to switch wireless networks between Internet access and streaming iTunes.
o The other option would be to connect the AX to an Ethernet backbone running the length of your house. Of course this would require wiring the house for Ethernet. With the AX connected by Ethernet, you can stream wirelessly to the Belkin and, in turn, the Belkin would stream via Ethernet to the AX.

  • Apple TV Air Tunes error -15000

Since I have installed iTunes 8 my apple tv has been acting very strange. Has anyone else noticed?
It seems to be slower, it has crashed once or twice, the last time it crashed It blew away all my content. I had to re-sync my photo's etc..
But my main gripe now is, I use it as an air tunes client, and that consistently doesn't work. I just get an Unknown error -150000
My Apple TV is connected directly to my netgear adsl wifi router with a cable, my iMac is a wifi client. I also have an air port express which works perfectly.
Can any one shine any light on my problem?
    Many Thanks

I (and many others) have the same problem since updating to iTunes 8. There is nothing you can do about it, unfortunately. We'll have to wait for an iTunes update to have this problem fixed.

  • Air Tunes not working after "8" install.

I have installed iTunes 8 successfully. Everything works great except my ever dependable Air Tunes / Airport EXpress hook-up now does not work. Some Unknown error. I have re-installed iTunes and reconfigured AirPort Express. Nothing. Can someone help? Jerry H

    From MacFixIt:
+iTunes no longer streams to airtunes devices, giving 'unknown error' -15000 or -3256 Many users are experiencing problems with iTunes 8 streaming music to devices that are connected using "Airtunes". The feature does not work, and users get either error -15000 or error -3256 which iTunes claims are "unknown errors". Error -15000 can be caused if users have old firmware on their Airport Express devices that are being used for Airtunes, so users should check the firmware on the device to ensure it is updated to the latest (version 6.3). Error -3256 may be caused by firewall interference with the Airtunes connection, and users should ensure that iTunes is listed in the system firewall (System Preferences --> Security --> Firewall) and is given "Allow" permissions for network connections.+

  • Air Tunes not working with iTunes 8.2

I downloaded iTunes 8.2 for my new iPhone and now Air Tunes does not work. I am getting error (-3256) when trying to connect to my stereo. Any suggestions?

    Hey there,
Maybe check out this article. I know it applies to Mac machines and not iPhones, but it may be able to at least point you in the right direction.

  • Want to use my Airport express to connect to my itune-air tune only.

I am travelling with my Airport Express to different countries, where I am not using it as a device to connect to the internet, but to connect my external speakers and want to enjoy my itune Air tunes.
I have had it set up back home, to connect to the internet and my external speakers.
Now, my Airport express is flashing amber, in the airport utility, I see my AirP Express, but I it takes forever to read base station configurations, so I can't make any changes.
All I need is to be able to use my itunes over my airtunes, using my Airp Express.

Ah - that fully explains what is going on.
    In that case:
    1. if you are currently on the road, you will need to do a hard reset of the Airport Express to return it to its default mode of a standalone base station. You will then be able to access it and configure it as necessary. And yes, the amber flashing light will persist. And lastly, will will need to reconfigure it from scratch as a remote base station on your home wireless LAN when you return home.
    2. if you are home right now, read up on the use of the Airport Express stored profiles feature, to save its current settings as a remote base station. You can also create a profile for the Airport Express to function as a standalone base station for when you are on the road. Just remember to switch profiles before you hit the road. If you forget to switch profiles before going on the road, just do a "soft reset" of the Airport Express, connect to its default wireless network, and use the Airport Utility to switch the Airport Express to your previously saved "on the road" profile.

  • Airport express: use internet and air tunes at the same time?

    Hi,
I'd like to use and airport express to create a wirelss network (and so use the internet) AND stream music to my stereo with air tunes - at the same time. Is this possible? So far, I have been able to create a wireless network (and use the internet) OR use the airport express to play music. But whenever my internet works, itune can't find the base station - claiming it "can't be found on the network?"
Can you do both at once?
I'm connecting to an ethernet jack (I'm at a college). It's not a cable modem or DSL. Is this the problem?
Under "music" in the utility configuration. I've selected "Enable Air tunes at the base station." I can't select "Enable Airtunes over ethernet port." When i try to change the network options to allow me to select this "ethernet port" option, I have to tell it how to "distribute IP" addresses. i don't know how to do this, and everything I've tried destroys my internet connection.
I appreciat any help you have to offer. thanks
    1.5 GHz PowerPC G4, 12'' powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    solution:
My problem ended up being specific to the network I'm using. There is evidently another router on the ethernet system that was assigning my airport express an IP address (192. ...), rather than letting the network DCHP give me a direct IP address (something like 160. ...). The 192 address made it impossible for iTunes to see my express base station, but I was getting internet, passed through this other router.
The fix - and I'm not sure if this is totally kosher - was to manually enter a correct IP address for my base station. I got the IP address by seeing what this other router was sending my computer to get onto the internet. It gave me the correct router and a workable (160. ...) IP address. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to manually pick an IP address on the ethernet, but this one is working for the time being, and now iTunes can find my base station.

  • Proximity issue with Air Tunes

    Hi-
I have read several posts about this but nothing directly related to what I have found.
I have been using an Airport Express for years specifically for steaming music wirelessly via Air Tunes. In the last several months I have noticed that intermittently Air Tunes cuts out.  Recently I have found that this has to do with the proximity of my iPhone or other devices proximity to the Air Port Express.
As soon as I get within a few feet of the Air Port Express the music will cut off, when I move further away it resumes.  I have tested this extensively and can replicate it without issue so it really seems to be a proximity issue.
This never used to happen, but now happens all the time.  I have an IPhone 5 but the problem occurred with my iPhone 4.  It also occurs with my wife’s iPhone 3GS and my iPad (first gen).
Has anyone else noticed this proximity issue with streaming wirelessly?

  • AIr Tunes Recognized, Not Connecting

Very recently one of the iMacs would still recognize both of our Express units for Air Tunes, but refuses to connect to one of them (will connect to the other). Two other computers in the house connect with both fine (including MBP sat right next to the iMac that won't connect). Apple suggested reinstalling ITunes. Nothing. Not sure what to do. Expresses work fine with the other computers. Also to note, the other computers won't connect with the iMac for ITunes sharing (again, they connect fine with MPB when it's right next to iMac--ruling out interference). All computers are under one year. All Snow Leopard. Besides the Expresses, also use a Time Capsule, but not for Air Tunes. Come on, Apple Detectives! Help.

    UPDATE: More experimenting and information:
    1. Just updated AEX, no change
    2. Brought AEX within a few feet of iMac. Then it worked. Did not work when it went back to usual spot (meaning, sees the AEX, but won't connect). Still MBP was able to pick it up when placed right next to iMac. (And again, the two other iMacs still pick up the AEX).
    3. My set up. FIOS Router. Time Capsule. (2) AEX.
    4. Issue began out of the blue.

  • Old Airport Express, New Airport Extreme, Air Tunes - No joy

    I'll try to be brief:
Have a Mini, that was running 10.3, and using an old Airport extreme to enable Air Tunes to a stereo in another room. All was well.
Updated the Mini to Leopard. Installed a new Airport Extreme. Did this so a new Macbook in the family could have a wireless internet connection. The new Macbook sees the new Airport extreme and is happy.
Open iTunes on the Mini, try to Air Tunes the music to the stereo.... No joy. iTunes says it can't find the Airport Express.
So I begin a LONG string of stuff to try to get the Express to be seen by something, anything...
Failing all attempts, I do a factory reset. The express now wants a password, won't take "public", does take the old password (which you would think would not be the case with a factory reset), but after churning a while the set up utility tosses and error that it can't connect. I even hooked the little buzzard up to the Extreme with a cable. Can't configure the Express.
Tried updating the Express's firmware. (its on 6.1). The updater sees it, but fails when trying the update.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

Did you try hooking it up with your mini (with cable)?
    Richard.

  • ITunes 7.1 + Air Tunes Issue

    Hi!
I just upgraded to 7.1 today and have been having issues with air tunes. For some reason when playing songs they will drop out continuously every so many seconds (usually between 30-50).
I am not doing anything different than normal, I'm not running any huge programs like photoshop while this error is occuring.
As anyone else been having this issue?

I've had choppy playback so much I could puke.
One reason seems to be if memory is filling up. See Activity Monitor and if the green part of memory is going away, that's one reason. Seems the only solution is to reboot as quitting all programs doesn't bring back any green and doesn't solve skipping problems.
Another reason is some other activity. If you're scrolling fast or crunching pixels in Photoshop, that could cause skips in the moment. It shouldn't, but it happens to me, and has been happening for a year or two.
But I think this latest release has some problem. Suddenly there's lots of threads talking about it. ANd I have it skipping with 3gigs of free ram free, and only Safari showing a simple page running on it.
The first song after I reboot, plays ok, but then it stutters, like fifty or a hundred periods of silence per song, scattered around randomly, each 0.1 to 1 second long. All songs finish, if you call that finishing, and they seem to take the correct amount of time to finish.
Maddening. iTunes is my stereo now!! will I have to go back to the old CD player?

  • I lost my iPhone device, how can I get my data back on another one without using an iCloud backup just back up on i Tunes, Please Help.

I lost my iPhone device, how can I get my data back on another one without using an iCloud backup just back up on i Tunes, Please Help.??

You can find the backup files and then copy them to a safe place if you are worrying about this.
iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.

  • I have a new iMac running iTunes 10.4 in OS 10.6.8, and a new Mac Air running iTunes 10.4 in Lion.  I was able to transfer all my music etc. from the iMac onto the Air, but cannot figure out how to get the Playlists from the iMac to the Air.  iTunes Help

I have a new iMac running iTunes 10.4 in OS 10.6.8, and a new Mac Air running iTunes 10.4 in Lion.  I was able to transfer all my music etc. from the iMac onto the Air, but cannot figure out how to get the Playlists from the iMac to the Air.  iTunes Help says File >Library >Export playlist and choose XML, or to save a copy of all your playlists, File > Library > Export Library, "the Exported info is saved in XML format."  Then it says, "to import an iTunes playlist, File > Library > Import Playlist".  Now I am assuming I do that import part on the Air, but when I try it doesn't recognize anything that can be imported - what am I missing??? Aside from a clue...

Thanks, Jim, for taking the time, but the reply is unfortunately vague in the exact area of my confusion!  "you need to copy that file to your new computer..."  Well, the Import/Export instructions make it seem as if the two computers should be able to communicate this file thru wifi, but that's the linkage I can't seem tocreate with Import/Export.  Should I instead email a copy to myself (thats what applecare suggested)?  Copy it to and from a thumb drive?  But then place the file where?  And the article was helpful, but should I be trying to move the Library file or the Library.xml file (as iTunes Help suggests)?  Sorry to be so clueless about it...I suppose I buy Apple in the hopes of not having to think about this stuff, which approach seems not to be serving me well. Thanks again for your time!

  • Can't get itunes to connect to airport express via air tunes

    Hi,
I just bought and installed an airport express (for windows 7) everything is now connected but i can't get itunes to recognize my airport express via air tunes. I can see the multiple speakers in itunes, but when i click on it to connect to airport it just comes up with connecting, loads for about a minute then minimizes without connecting.
Has anyone else experienced this? How can i get this to work?

You've probaby solved this by now, but if not... When upgrading itunes on a Vista or Windows 7 machine with Windows Firewall running for some reason Bonjour can't get through the firewall and thus Airplay does not work. Not good when all your Hi-fi's are connected via airport express!
I found to resolve the issue you have to install an older version of Bonjour. It won't work if you try to do this straight from Apple.  So try this...
    1. Firstly install and older version of itunes from the web (say version 10.1) Try www.oldapps.com
    2. Then find the Bonjour file in program files
    3. Cut and paste it to your desktop with its contents
    4. Uninstall itunes and Bonjour via your control panel (the desktop file of Bonjour you moved will still be there).
    5. Install your new version of itunes, say version 10.5, from the apple website.
    6. Before opening it go to program files and cut the (newly installed) Bonjour file and paste it somewhere different to the desktop (you can't just delete it). It does not matter where you won't be needing it.
    7. Now Cut and paste the old version of Bonjour you stuck on the desktop in Program files in place of the one you just moved.
    8. Hey presto, Airplay, Windows firewall and your Airport Express' should all get on again.
    Hope this works...
    Jim
