Air Tunes or Something Similar on a B&W G3

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to wirelessly transmit music from my B&W G3 to my stereo or a set of powered speakers. Would Air Tunes be the answer, and is it compatible with my Mac? Thanks.

>"I just need to connect one Airport Express to my router via ethernet."Yes, that's right.
If you do not need the Airport Express Ethernet port for direct Internet access, you can just plumb it to your router with an Ethernet cable, and get access to Airtunes from all your Ethernet-connected Macs.
If you still want to get your Blue & White G3 to go Wireless, there are several Aftermarket solutions. If you are willing to use Ethernet for now, you are done. If you want to add a second Airport Express for that job, it is a viable option.
If you add a wireless laptop in the future, it will hook right up through the Airport Express.

  • Airport express: use internet and air tunes at the same time?

    Hi,
    I'd like to use and airport express to create a wirelss network (and so use the internet) AND stream music to my stereo with air tunes - at the same time. Is this possible? So far, I have been able to create a wireless network (and use the internet) OR use the airport express to play music. But whenever my internet works, itune can't find the base station - claiming it "can't be found on the network?"
    Can you do both at once?
    I'm connecting to an ethernet jack (I'm at a college). It's not a cable modem or DSL. Is this the problem?
    Under "music" in the utility configuration. I've selected "Enable Air tunes at the base station." I can't select "Enable Airtunes over ethernet port." When i try to change the network options to allow me to select this "ethernet port" option, I have to tell it how to "distribute IP" addresses. i don't know how to do this, and everything I've tried destroys my internet connection.
    I appreciat any help you have to offer. thanks
    1.5 GHz PowerPC G4, 12'' powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    solution:
    My problem ended up being specific to the network I'm using. There is evidently another router on the ethernet system that was assigning my airport express an IP address (192. ...), rather than letting the network DCHP give me a direct IP address (something like 160. ...). The 192 address made it impossible for iTunes to see my express base station, but I was getting internet, passed through this other router.
    The fix - and I'm not sure if this is totally kosher - was to manually enter a correct IP address for my base station. I got the IP address by seeing what this other router was sending my computer to get onto the internet. It gave me the correct router and a workable (160. ...) IP address. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to manually pick an IP address on the ethernet, but this one is working for the time being, and now iTunes can find my base station.

  • Old Airport Express, New Airport Extreme, Air Tunes - No joy

    I'll try to be brief:
    Have a Mini, that was running 10.3, and using an old Airport extreme to enable Air Tunes to a stereo in another room. All was well.
    Updated the Mini to Leopard. Installed a new Airport Extreme. Did this so a new Macbook in the family could have a wireless internet connection. The new Macbook sees the new Airport extreme and is happy.
    Open iTunes on the Mini, try to Air Tunes the music to the stereo.... No joy. iTunes says it can't find the Airport Express.
    So I begin a LONG string of stuff to try to get the Express to be seen by something, anything...
    Failing all attempts, I do a factory reset. The express now wants a password, won't take "public", does take the old password (which you would think would not be the case with a factory reset), but after churning a while the set up utility tosses and error that it can't connect. I even hooked the little buzzard up to the Extreme with a cable. Can't configure the Express.
    Tried updating the Express's firmware. (its on 6.1). The updater sees it, but fails when trying the update.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Did you try hooking it up with your mini (with cable)?
    Richard.

  • I have a question that I think I know the answer to, but am looking for confirmation.  I have a dell computer at home that has clip art available on it for putting pictures into documents.  Do I need to install an APP to get something similar to clip art?

    I have a question that I think I know the answer to, but am looking for confirmation.  I have a desktop computer at home that has clip art loaded onto it.  I recently got an iPad and am looking for something similar.  I assume I need to get an APP for it, and if that is correct, does anyone have one that they like?

    Sort of.  There is an app called art shop that gives you a place to park clip art.   But I don't think you really need it.
    If you have a collection of clip art you want available, move it to the camera roll on your pad/ phone, then copy paste into your document the clip you want.
    You can get them into the camaera roll by putting them in a single event in your picture library and syncing them over,  or e mail them to your self, and save to the camera roll, or send them to drop box, and bring them down that way.
    The challenge is getting them all in one place to make it easy for you to find, which is why syncing might be the best approach in the long run.
    As near as I can tell there is not a ready made clip art collection in app format laying around.

  • Ntrights.exe Windows 2008 R2 Resource Kit Tool? Does it exist or is there something similar I can use?

    I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard as a DC
    I am trying to add users/groups to the following local policies through a GPO, however I need to script it out using something similar to ntrights.exe. I do not want to do it through the GUI because this is going to be a re-occurring process.
    Below are the policies I am trying to configure via some kind of command prompt. I do not think I can do this with PowerShell 2.0 even with the import-module grouppolicy cmdlets.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Allow log on locally
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Debug programs
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Force shutdown from a remote system
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Shut down the system
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Change the system time
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Allow logon through Remote Desktop Services
    Would it be safe to copy the Windows Server 2003 ntrights.exe resource kit tool and try it on Windows Server 2008 R2? I am working on a virtual test lab environment so I can actually take a snapshot before hand but wanted your expert thoughts on it first.
    Thank you in advance.

    I found the solution.....You can actually use "quoted" host names in the templates instead of the SIDs. Make sure that for Domain User Accounts you specify the Domain prefix. For Local User accounts you can just specify the local user name.
    The filename of the template that I made is LOCAL_SEC_TEMPLATE.inf
    Here's what's inside that LOCAL_SEC_TEMPLATE.inf template:
    [Unicode]
    Unicode=yes
    [Registry Values]
    [Privilege Rights]
    SeInteractiveLogonRight = "Administrators","XXDIGIHD\DigiOps","XXDIGIHD\Domain Admins"
    SeDebugPrivilege = "Administrators","XXDIGIHD\DigiOps","XXDIGIHD\Domain Admins"
    SeRemoteShutdownPrivilege = "Administrators","XXDIGIHD\DigiOps","XXDIGIHD\Domain Admins"
    SeSystemtimePrivilege = "Administrators","XXDIGIHD\DigiOps","XXDIGIHD\Domain Admins","LOCAL SERVICE"
    SeShutdownPrivilege = "Administrators","XXDIGIHD\DigiOps","XXDIGIHD\Domain Admins"
    SeRemoteInteractiveLogonRight = "Administrators","XXDIGIHD\DigiOps","XXDIGIHD\Domain Admins","Remote Desktop Users"
    [Version]
    signature="$CHICAGO$"
    Revision=1
    [Profile Description]
    Description=Local Security Template
    Here's how I applied the template to the Local Security Policy: (You can use PowerShell or the regular command prompt)
    SECEDIT /configure /db secedit.sdb /cfg "c:\LOCAL_SEC_TEMPLATE.inf"
    Here's the link on using SECEDIT >> http://www.appdeploy.com/tips/detail.asp?id=23
    Thanks for your help Gunter, this issue is solved.

    2011 MacBook Pro, 64 bit i7 quad core, upgraded to Lion OSx, Bootcamp installed with Windows 7, wanting to install Windows 8 (don't ask), tried downloading/installing bootcamp 5.0.5033 (both on the mac/windows partitions (actually using a parallel to run Windows)), error message something similar to bootcamp doesn't support this Windows
    So the question is am I doing something wrong? Should I just try and install windows 8 through my windows 7 partition and see if I can use the bootcamp 5.05033. Or do I solely have to use the bootcamp to install Windows 8? I'm not too familiar with bootcamp and how it runs.

    if you're using parallels and full bootcamp then you're making it 100% more troublesome for youself then it needs to be
    bootcamp is running windows directly on the hardware this give full memory and cpu and 3d video game power
    running windows in parallels is running a virtual machine where one can't run powerful games and the like but one can have it in a window and change fast between osx and windows
    parallels as the only virutal machine (as far as I know) support not have the operating system as a file on the osx harddisk but can access a bootcamp parition as virtual machine but without the benefits bootcamps provides
    it's a service parallels provide for those who want both to play games in normal bootcamp and sometimes use windows in a virutal machine
    just install it like a normal virtual machine and you need not worry about bootcamp drivers and the likes
    plus it would mean that the windows part would be a part of the timemachine bacup of osx
    which it is not when it's in bootcamp

    Any links related to tutorials, links for similar techniques (c4d, max...?)
    What is your opinion about modeling this scene?
    Thank you!

    It will probably take some 3-D modeling.  Bringing it into AE, I will point you to Andrew Kramer's Element 3D plugin - http://www.videocopilot.net/
    He has one demo that is doing a very similar effect -- http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/element_animation_engine/

  • Can't get itunes to connect to airport express via air tunes

    Hi,
    I just bought and installed an airport express (for windows 7) everything is now connected but i can't get itunes to recognize my airport express via air tunes. I can see the multiple speakers in itunes, but when i click on it to connect to airport it just comes up with connecting, loads for about a minute then minimizes without connecting.
    Has anyone else experienced this? How can i get this to work?
    Message was edited by: Toddy85

          You've probaby solved this by now, but if not... When upgrading itunes on a Vista or Windows 7 machine with Windows Firewall running for some reason Bonjour can't get through the firewall and thus Airplay does not work. Not good when all your Hi-fi's are connected via airport express!
    I found to resolve the issue you have to install an older version of Bonjour. It won't work if you try to do this straight from Apple.  So try this...
    1. Firstly install and older version of itunes from the web (say version 10.1) Try www.oldapps.com
    2. Then find the Bonjour file in program files
    3. Cut and paste it to your desktop with its contents
    4. Uninstall itunes and Bonjour via your control panel (the desktop file of Bonjour you moved will still be there).
    5. Install your new version of itunes, say version 10.5, from the apple website.
    6. Before opening it go to program files and cut the (newly installed) Bonjour file and paste it somewhere different to the desktop (you can't just delete it). It does not matter where you won't be needing it.
    7. Now Cut and paste the old version of Bonjour you stuck on the desktop in Program files in place of the one you just moved.
    8. Hey presto, Airplay, Windows firewall and your Airport Express' should all get on again.
    Hope this works...

  • Apple TV Air Tunes error -15000

    Since I have installed iTunes 8 my apple tv has been acting very strange. Has anyone else noticed?
    It seems to be slower, it has crashed once or twice, the last time it crashed It blew away all my content. I had to re-sync my photo's etc..
    But my main gripe now is, I use it as an air tunes client, and that consistently doesn't work. I just get an Unknown error -150000
    My Apple TV is connected directly to my netgear adsl wifi router with a cable, my iMac is a wifi client. I also have an air port express which works perfectly.
    Can any one shine any light on my problem?
    Many Thanks
    Paul

    I (and many others) have the same problem since updating to iTunes 8. There is nothing you can do about it, unfortunately. We'll have to wait for an iTunes update to have this problem fixed.

  • Air Tunes and Multi-Pass

    I just started getting the Daily Show and I have AirTunes. When I play it, I wanted it to come over the spearks in the house so that everyone could hear. When I have iTunes switched from "computer" to the wireless AirTunes router, nothing happens. I can still play music either way, but not this video.
    Any ideas why?

    when you are using Air Tunes via Airport Express will
    iTunes be pumping audio out the "Line Out"? i.e. will
    the speaker attached to my computer be playing what's
    playing in iTunes?
    No
    can I be listening to the stereo in the living room
    (with Air Tunes) and have someone else be watching a
    DVD on the computer?
    Yes

    How do I use 'Terminal' or something similar to Tether my Galaxy [Note 1] Phone to my Macbook Pro in such a way that the Android phone gets my mac on the internet.
    If it's possible for FREE then I can probably do that.
    I try using the "Play" Store icon on the phone & it says 'No connection'.
    Having a Macbook and not get internet is VERY frustrating.
    TIA.

    If the phone has a Wi-Fi tethering mode, it should appear in the Wi-Fi menu on your Mac as a wireless network.

  • How can I do something similar with Lightroom

    With the combination of the Editor of "Photoshop Elements" (PSE) and of the KODAK SHO Professional Plugin (which runs as a "filter"-plugin in the PSE Editor environment), I can often fixd photos which-
    - have both bright and dark portions
    - and which show poorly details in the bright portions.
    But (probablay because I have not sufficient LR expertise), I do not understand how to achieve similar results (or: better results) with Lightroom.
    Is an experienced LR user aware of a relatively ***simple*** way to achieve something similar (or, even  to achieve better results) with LR and is willing to explain her/his solution to me? Thanks very much in advance for it.
    Now, I need to explain in detail, with one concrete example, what I can do with the combination of PSE and KODAK SHO.
    A concrete example of a Photo that I need to edit follows (continuation of the description of my problem/questions follows in the next Post).

    The Fill Light slider brings the shadows up and the Recovery slider brings the highlights down.
    Also, in LR3 the Curves is different from LR 2 in  so far as you now can pull up or down both ends of the curve vertically. This was not possible in LR 2.
    Grab the little circle at the left / bottom end of the curve and pull it up vertically. That will lighten your blacks / shadows. Grab the little circle at the right / top end of the curve tool and pull it down. That will darken your highlights. This process will make your image look a bit flat; if so, increase contrast by giving the curve a gentle S-form.
    Directly below the curves tool you have the option to choose between "linear', "medium contrast', or "strong contrast'. If you choose one of the latter two, the end points of the curve will snap back to zero but the curve will have a curve (no pun).
    Also, in case your image does not have enough contrast, instead of using the contrast slider, you can pull the end points of the curve horizontally.
    Apart from these image-wide changes you can make local changes with the adjustment brush or with graduated filter. I often use the gard filter to give a little "ooomph" to the sky by setting exposure (for the grad filter) to -0.66. Similarly you can lighten the shadows with a grad filter by giving it an + exposure and/or increasing brightness. Make sure that the grad filter doesn't give you a color toning - unless you want it. With a color toning you can make your shadows less blue (by choosing yellow toning) and your sky more blue (by choosing a blue toning). Naturally you'd need 2 different grad filters for that; you can't have 2 different settings in one grad filter.

  • Dark area on screen, looks like smudge, anyone else seen something similar?

    Hi,
    I got a new 16GB white 3G yesterday and love it!
    It's been a long wait for us here in Sweden, but now the iPhone is finally here.
    Just one problem: I have a small area of the screen that is visibly darker than the rest. It is situated about one inch from the top edge, and in the middle "horizontally". It is about 5 - 6 m.m. in diameter and resembles a smudge, but it is not possible to whipe it away, and it also looks a bit different from different angles.
    It does not look like totally dead pixels since they just seem to be slightly darker than the surrounding areas. Possibly a smudge on the inside of the glass perhaps?
    It is mostly visible on light gray backgrounds, and when scrolling lists (e.g. of text) since then it appears and disappears as the list is being scrolled (it is not clearly visible if there is text on it).
    I know I should go back to the store to have them check, but I just thought I'd ask here first if anyone else has seen something similar?
    I might also wait a while to see if it changes, right now it is a bit difficult to see sometimes and I don't want to go back to the store just to have them "send me away" because they didn't see it.

    I have a similar problem with my iPhone 3G. The only screen that looks sharp and free of any horizontal lines or "tracers" from text or images is the home screen. Safari, contacts, etc. look bad. I have an iPod Touch as well and none of these issues have ever been manifest on it. On the iPhone there will be horizontal lines across the screen of a lighter color than the background along the edges of images (like a photo for a contact in the address book) or a safari page when multiple pages are displayed. Also none of the text in Safari or even in the crossword puzzle game I purchased are as crisp as the text on the Touch.
    I've played around with the brightness, but this has not helped (it becomes more evident when the screen is brightened).
    I'm on hold with AppleCare and if I find out something I will report back.
    Jim
