Airdrop iPad Air to imac?

Can we transfer photos from a new iMac to the iPad Air using Airdrop?  Both devices have Airdrop.
Thanks,
Edward

You can't AirDrop to iMac.
AirDrop can only be used with iPhone 5, iPad 4, iPad Mini and iPod 5.

  • How do I sync a spreadsheet file from iPad Air to iMac?

I need to sync individual files (mostly spreadsheets and word documnets -  xlsx and docx) between an iPad Air and an iMac.  How do I do this?
The only way I have found is to email it back and forth - dangerous as you can have issues with versions.  If I was still using my old PC and laptop I would drag the document back and forth between shared folders.  The iPad doesn't use folders.........

Apple's Numbers and Pages apps do that automatically, by design, through iCloud. They can also read and write their equivalent Microsoft formats.
Otherwise, you have to use the method you describe, Dropbox, or equivalent file sharing programs.

  • HT4783 Why can I not airdrop between my iMac and iPad Air?

Is there a way to airdrop between my iMac and iPad Air?

AirDrop uses different systems to transfer data in iDevices and Macs, so you cannot use AirDrop between an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and a Mac. If you want this feature, send the idea to Apple > http://www.apple.com/feedback
Instead, there are other ways to transfer data between the Mac and your iPad, like Dropbox, or use iTunes.

  • Airdrop not working between my iMac 2010 running Yosemite and iPad Air STILL!

My iMac (i7 2.93GHz 16GB RAM) is using Bluetooth 4.3 and is hooked up to the same 802.11n 104Mbps wifi network as my iPad Air running iOS8.
Airdrop STILL doesn't work between iMac and iOS8, despite the much-trumpeted new Yosemite feature.
I've been waiting for an easy way to get files on and off my iOS devices for ages, and feel severely let down.
Anyone able to explain this for me before I get too disillusioned with Apple's forced hardware upgrade policy?
The iMac is mid 2010, so supposedly can't use the feature, but why? If there is no technical reason why I can't share files using Airdrop, then this absolutely 5ucks!

This is what my Airdrop looks like.  It doesn't pick up my iPad, running ios8 (Airdrop is ON) and none of the drop down menus function.  What is the big question mark?
I am using an iMac, just upgraded to the new Yosemite yesterday (BTW, Airdrop never worked previously either, and the window looked the same as now)

  • Air Drop problem iMac to iPad air.

My iMac on 10.10.2 Yosemite cannot/will not see my iPad air on iOS8.1.3 using the AirDrop, though both are on same network and only feet apart.
Why might this be???? What am I missing?

I have the same issue. My iPhone 5 with IOS 8.1.3 and my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2008 with Yosemite 10.10.2 can't see each other in AirDrop. Also there are no AirDrop settings available in my Finder window.

Airdrop, in the iMac, just cant find the iPad and I dont know if it is even possible do the search from the iPad
What is there for my to do? I am new to the Mac family, so hopefully there is a simple sulution outhere..

  • My macbook pro (OS 10.8.5) and iPad air 2 (set to "Airdrop:everyone") cannot connect with each other

Airdrop does not work between macbook pro & iPad air 2

From the document I posted above see this:
    System Requirements
To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector
your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed
your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed
Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.
To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need the Mac models listed below with Wi-Fi turned on and OS X Lion or later installed.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.
For help identifying your Mac, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu. You can refer to the Apple Support website to find out if your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch includes a lightning connector.

    How do I............

    Wow, that's very disappointing.
I see that you can transfer between two Macs but not, as you say, between older Macs and iOS.
For others, the following is from Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices

  • Why can't you use airdrop between all apple devices?!just got the iPad air, and was hoping to have the ability to airdrop images from the mac to the iPad....and you can't do that?! c'mon apple!!Whats going on?!

Is there any way to use Airdrop between Imac and Ipad air?
I cant quite believe thatthe two are not interlinked!!? or am i missing something? i can pick up iphone on the ipad, ipad on the iphone but pick neither up on the imac or the imac on the ipad or iphone. Can anyone shed any light on this?

AirDop on the Mac is a different tech than AirDrop on the iPhone and iPad.  At this time, there is no interaction between thew different AirDrops.
It is a little confusing that they are called the same, but are in fact different.
Why Apple did this, I can't say.  Maybe in the future it will be possible.

  • HELP!  syncing my iPad air to new iMac

We've just bought a new iMac for our home computer (21.5 inch 2.7GHz 8GB memory 1TB hard drive) and I'm having trouble syncing my daughters iPad air to it.  This iPad was previously synced to a old PC laptop.  We've managed to get some of her iTunes on to it via iCloud but all her playlists have not come over.  I want to back the iPad up to this new iMac but every time we plug it in we get a message to restore the iPad to factory settings.  I don't want to do this as my daughter will be very upset if she loses everything.  Can you advise on what I can do, would very much appreciate it.

I can connect my Iphone 6 and Ipad Air to my Bose Soundlink but not my IMac.  I have tried all the usual solutions but nothing works.  It has worked recently but not in the last week. Help

make sure it's not being connected to by any of the other two
one can only connect 1 device at the time and just by waking up sometimes a headset connects to a device
    automaticly
then forget the bluetooth device in OS X and put the headset in pairing mode / discovery mode and connect with it once again with the mac

  • Transferring Albums between iMac and iPad Air iPhoto's

Just bought an iPad Air and it set up fine and synced with all the old iPad info of my iPad 1. On iPhoto however, it only imported the albumns that I had on the old iPad and I could not import an album I have on my iMac in iPhoto onto the new iPad. Any suggestions.

    Hi
I have an imac running iphoto 7.1.5 and have updated my itunes to the latest version 11.1.3, my opp system is Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
When i sync my ipad via usb cable, my iphoto 7.1.5 loads and i can transfer files from my ipad to the imac, but not the other way round.  I tried to follow your instructions above by using itunes but after clicking on the ipad tab there is no iphoto tab appearing.  Is it because my iphoto version is so old or am I doing something stupid,  i would appreciate some help
