Airdrop - iPhone

I tried to get my iPhone and Macbook Pro to share a picture using Airdrop. They do not see each other. Why is this?

Eric Root - "Do you have Airdrop turned on in the Mac?", you ask.
Well, as I noted, "My late 2014 iMac running Yosemite* can see and AIrDrop to my iPad Air and my iPhone 5s." This was accomplished by my selecting "Allow me to be discovered by: Everyone" under Airdrop via the sidebar in the iMac's Finder window.
Are you suggesting that this can happen without Airdrop "turned on" in the Mac? Or maybe that I must do something additional to make Airdrop work in the other direction (that is, to be seen by the iPhone and/or iPad)?  Your question implies that I actually have missed a setting somewhere on the Mac. Please elaborate.

  • Airdrop iPhone to MacBook Pro

I have an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.
I have a MacBook Pro with OS X Yosemite 10.10.
I can airdrop from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone without any problem.
I can however to airdrop from the iPhone to the MacBook Pro - the iPhone doesn't see the MacBook Pro.
Funny enough, I have exactly the same problem with my iPad. Works fine MacBook Pro to iPad, iPad doesn't see the MacBook Pro.
And in both instances, on the MacBook Pro, I am in the Airdrop window in Finder and can see both my devices.
    What am I missing here?

Over the course of the last year or so - these Apple User forums have grown nearly useless... Even common issues often receive no replies at all of any worth.
Here I am searching and searching, trying to figure out why I cannot airdrop from my iPhone 6 to my macbook Pro that is running 10.10.1... and thread after thread has little or no info at all.

  • Airdrop iPhone to Macbook Pro Retina

I am trying to Airdrop a photo from my iPhone 6 Plus to my Macbook Pro Retina 15" early 2013 and it is not working.
I can Airdrop between my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus, but not between my Mac.  My Mac can send to my iPhone and iPad.  I can see my phone and iPad on my Airdrop menu on the mac but I don't see anything on my phone or iPad when trying to Airdrop.
All devices are up to date and have bluetooth and wifi turned on.

I am also having this issue.  My MBP can see my iPhone 6 and drop files to it.  I am not able to drop files from iPhone 6 to MBP or ever see it in airdrop.

  • Airdrop iphone and macbook

    Hello
I was trying to connect via Airdrop my macbook with my iphone. I go to finder on the macbook and open the airdrop but my iphone doesn't show.
It worked between my ipad and my iphone. I could pass photos from the ipad to the iphone using airdrop but it appears not to be working with the macbook pro.
I Activated airdrop on my iphone (wifi and bluetooth)
do you guys have any ideas what the problem is?
thanks a lot for your help!!!

In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed and your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model.

  • AirDrop - iPhone text edit app that works

I'm trying to share a text document via AirDrop and each time I try this, I get this message on my iPhone:
"** would like to share a file that requires an app from the App Store".
I then tap "Get App" and I get a blank screen each time. Can someone recommend an app that I can use on my iPhone so that I can get the file on my iPhone from Yosemite? Pages documents work, but text documents don't.

The simplest option is to just have a special login page and navigation on your website that you can access directly from Safari, or through a UIWebView and let the user view the pdf's. You may not even need anything custom if the screen flow of you web site is the same as what you want from your app.
As you become more sophisticated, you can consider downloading the PDF's for local caching and then displaying (if that is even necessary), creating a login screen in your app, and making a webservice call to authenticate, etc.

  • AirDrop iPhone 5 not working

Airdrop isn't working for me to send with. I can receive fine from my wife's phone, but I cannot see or send to her, regardless of how I set it up, either contacts only or everyone. At first I could see her phone but since a reboot, I cannot.

I'm having this same problem. I can airdrop my husband, but he can no longer airdrop me. Please advise.

  • Airdrop iPhone to MAC (ios 8.1 and Yosemite)

    Hi
my airdop between my iPhone 6 and my MacBook Pro (finals 2011) doesnt work. It works with another iphones, but not with my mac. It`s something about the bluetooth version or something like that?
    hope for an answer.
    Thank you

Same for me - Macbook Pro mid-2012 Yosemite and iPhone 6 8.1; the Mac can see (& drop to) the phone but not vice versa (which is obviously the far more useful function!).  All Apple advice says this should work - I have tried all the suggestions but no change.  Older iPad similar.
Sop I am back to emailing myself!  Please can Apple fix this?

  • How do I transfer iPhone 4S Notes to MacBook Pro so I can print them?

I have an iPhone 4S where I have kept Notes several of which I want to print. How can I single out the Notes without downloading the rest of the contents from th iPhone?

    Hi rosaantonia,
If you are looking to share or print a specific Note from your iPhone, you may find the following page helpful:
Share or print. Tap at the bottom of the note. You can share via Messages, Mail, or AirDrop (iPhone 5 or later).

  • Maildrop, Airdrop - so unreliable

These are good ideas, but in practical they bring more troubles than benefit. On 100 mbps internet line mail attachment is being uploaded o iCloud 100 kb/s  (sometimes faster but usually like that). If I upload it on ftp, it lasts 30 sec, on iCloud 30 minutes ...  Also - no progress line seen ... Rather unusable.
Airdrop: iPhone and Macbook Pro being next to each other, wanting to share a photo, tapping on Airdrop icon on iPhone, no response, tapping few times, still nothing. After some time finally Macbook is seen and then unwillingly some lengthy transfer starts ...
I don't consider it as very brilliant procedures ...

If your experiencing issues with your network extender, we will need to trouble-shoot for resolution.  You can PM me your contact information so that we may discuss your issues in further detail. We will need to review your area to ensure no issues have been reported with signal or network extenders. • Why won't airdrop work with iOS8 or 8.1?

I have been trying to use AIRDROP iPhone 6 plus and MacBook Pro. I can see both of my macs with air drop. I have the air drop folder open on both computers (both running Yosemite) and they see each other just fine. When I try to send files to either computer using my iPhone 6 plus running iOS 8 with air drop nothing happens. The airdrop icons shows up in the sending options but just the icon is there. I can't select it and I can't see the phone on either computer. I have searched for this issue and nobody seems to be reporting the same issue. I have gone into all of the device preferences and Im not finding any option to turn this feature on. I checked for the "hand off" options and everything is turned on with my iPhone. I installed iOS 8.1 today hoping that this would fix the airdrop issues and unfortunately it did nothing.
    HELP.
Is there an option Im missing or am I doing something wrong?

    Hey Linc,
I have been experiencing an issue where, upon downloading the link in your above reply and attempting an installation, I get the following error:
I have tried removing old versions of Java (the plugin, etc.), but still receive the error. (I also ensured my Security preferences allowed for all installations).
    Any ideas?

  • I0S7, Airplay, and Iphone 4S

I installed I0S7 for my iphone 4S and now airplay no longer works for songs/videos saved on the phone itself. So, there is no airplay button when I go to music or camera roll. However, if I am playing music from a 3rd party app such as tunein radio or youtube, airplay works fine (haven't tested video). I turned off all devices (airplay speaker, apple tv, router, phone) and turned them back on but this didn't help.

    Hello SunnyJassi,
The AirPlay controls are now in Control Center.
Control Center gives you instant access to the camera, flashlight, AirDrop (iPhone 5 or later), AirPlay, timer, audio playback controls, and many other handy features.

  • Importing iOS 8 edited images AAE files?

With iOS 7, I could crop images using the built-in Photos app on my iPhone or iPad, then when I imported those photos into Lightroom, the original image and its cropping automatically appeared, just as if I had done the cropping on Lightroom. This behavior disappeared with iOS 8. Only the original unedited image from iOS 8 is imported by Lightroom.
Lightroom complains that it is unable to import files with extension .AAE for the files that were edited in the iOS 8 photos app. Some Googling revealed that AAE is the new XML sidecar format used in iOS 8 to non-destructively record edits. I guess that iOS 7 used a different sidecar format that Lightroom understood. I am using OS X Mavericks, no CC and no iCloud.
I tried to import the AAE files to see what they look like, but had no luck doing so. On my Mac with Mavericks, they don't show up in Image Capture, and on a Windows PC I can see the AAE files, but I get errors trying to copy them.
It appears that if I upgrade my Mac to Yosemite, then Image Capture will be able to read the AAE files.
Has anyone looked at these files? Do they contain any adjustments that Lightroom might recognize if their extension is changed to XML?
Can anyone from Adobe comment if there are any plans for a future version of Lightroom (or other Adobe products) to interpret these files?
    Thanks for the help!

.aae are iOS 8 picture's sidecar (just like adobe .xmp) where iphone saves the list of adjustment you made when you edited your picture (jpg manages as a raw with sidecar). Problem is that so far I don't think any desktop editor editor manage this sidecar file yet. It's probably there just to mantain the picture look when you move files from a portable device to another (iphones, ipads...).
So far the only way I found to export the pictures with modifications applied is Airdrop (iphone to Mac). It will render the picture and send a new edited file, but I think it's better to copy also the originals with sidecars since sooner or later we'll have an .aae compatible editor (I hope).

  • Airdropping photos, voice memos etc. iPhone 6 - Mac

    MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    OS X Yosemite version 10.10
    iPhone 6 iOS 8.1
Probably just a bug that apple will sort out... I just tried to airdrop a voice memo and a photo from my iPhone to my mac. My mac can see my iPhone, but when I press airdrop on the phone nothing happens. The phone recognizes my partner's iPhone, and airdrop works as expected between the two phones, but it seems like the iPhone - mac airdrop doesn't work yet?
I thought this was something that Yosemite could do now?
    Cheers
