Airdrop troubleshooting

Looking for troubleshooting. My iPhone said it sent content to my Mac, but the content preview never popped up. I have no idea where to look for the content.

Macbook Pro 2012. When I try Airdrop, both my iPhone and my mac show the other as available. When I selected some photos on my phone to send to my computer, it showed as "sent", but then nothing happened on the mac side. I tried a spotlight search, but didn't find the photos.

  • Troubleshooting slow AirDrop?

    Hello,
I am expereiencing very slow AirDrop speeds between my Mac Pro and Macbook Air (both on Yosemite, but has always been slow).
    I am seeing about 1.5 megabytes/sec...
What are some steps I can take to troubleshoot why the speed is so slow?

    Hi appleclaire:
    1) Try using Disk Utikity to 'Repair Permissions' and 'Verify/Repair' Disk. You may need to start from you system DVD ie:
"To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc and restart your computer holding down the"C" Key OR (Option key and then select the Install Mac OS X disc and click the arrow).
    Open Disk Utility.
In the Mac OS X Installer, choose Utilities > Open Disk Utility.
Select the startup disk you want to repair in the list of disks and volumes, then click First Aid.
Click the button to verify or repair the disk or disk permissions.
Check the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard disk at the bottom of the window. If it shows "Verified," the disk has nothing wrong at this time. If you see "About to Fail" in red letters, back up your files on the disk as soon as possible and replace the disk."
    2) Get the free program ONYX and use it to perform 'optimize system- complete' and run ALL the cron scrips - Daily/Weekly/Monthly.
    3) You may need to defrag you disk with programs like iDefrag, Techtool Pro 4, Drive Genius, or Speed Tools.

  • Sharing contacts using AirDrop, both users are members of the same Family Sharing group.

I'm asking this question for a friend of mine. He contacted me to help troubleshoot a problem where he was trying to share a contact with his wife using AirDrop. They both have new iPhone 5Ss running iOS 8.1. He can send a contact to his wife's iPhone but she can't send to him. While troubleshooting we noticed we could change the behavoir by changing the settings of who was a Parent/GardIan and who was an Adult in Family Sharing. For example we could change the behaviour so that she could share a contact with him but he could not share with her. We were never able to get it to work where they could share with each other both ways. It was one way only.
Anyone else who is part of a Family Sharing group having trouble using AirDrop to share between iPhones, particularly contacts?

    Hi,
The way to do this would be to first have a Lookup on the dimension based on the properties you want. You can then use this retrieved value in the REC statement.
This is an example for it:
    *DIM CATEGORY=CATEGORY
    *DIM TIME=TIME
    *LOOKUP RATE
    *DIM ENTITY2="DEFAULT"
    *DIM RATE=ACCOUNT.RATETYPE
    *DIM SOURCECURR:INPUTCURRENCY=ENTITY.CURR
    *DIM DESTCURR1: INPUTCURRENCY="USD"
    *DIM DESTCURR2: INPUTCURRENCY="EURO"
    *ENDLOOKUP
    *WHEN ACCOUNT.RATETYPE
    *IS "AVG","END"
    *REC(FACTOR=LOOKUP(DESTCURR1)/LOOKUP(SOURCECURR),CURRENCY=u201DUSDu201D)
    *ENDWHEN
    *COMMIT
    Hope this helps.

  • No Airdrop in Finder 10.8.5

I've used Macs for years and never had much success with Airdrop, it never seems to work for some reason.
Recently I tried to share to an iMac running 10.8.5, after searching the internet and troubleshooting for 30 minutes or so **why didnt I just email the file to myself like always!?! :-) ** I cannot find any answer. Every help site says "Open finder" "click Airdrop" etc... but when I open Finder, no Airdrop option is listed.
    Thanks.

Oh, so to use Airdrop you do not just need an OS 10.7+ you need a newer Mac also? Wonder why that is? It isnt a hardware issue is it?
    Weird....
    Thanks though!

    Hi paulo23,
''Would it make a difference if I would delete firefox altogether and try fresh?''
It could not be ruled out it may help.
A clean reinstall may solve the issue and so could be tried but not as a first step and take care with what you do.
#First I suggest you '''back up your current profile'''. <br />Do this before trying even a new profile. You want to make sure you do not lose data such as bookmarks passwords or settings, or if you do that you may recover them. Put the backup folders and files somewhere safe outside Firefox profile or program paths. (Your Desktop will do)
#* [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
#Next just try a clean additional '''test profile'''. And when it comes to trying to print again use safe mode, and make sure any and all Firefox Plugins are disabled.
#* [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles#w_creating-a-profile]]'''_creating-a-profile'''
#* If you are new to using multiple Firefox profiles then because we do not document this in the Sumo KB (other than for Thunderbird) you may be interested in reading my tips in two adjacent posts [/questions/990973#answer-548376] & [/questions/990973#answer-548377]

  • Airdrop dosen't work?

I'm currently having a Macbook air 2013 with mac os 10.10.1, iPhone5s with IOS 8.1.1.
I have allowed the airdrop discovered by everyone, turned bluetooth and wifi on in both devices. Macbook Air is connecting to the wifi hotspot from iPhone5s.
Handoff is working well, I can see the icon popups out in the dock.
But I can't use airdrop, I can't see any devices in airdrop list from both devices, they can't detect each other. Am I doing anything wrong?
All I want is passing one picture from Mac to iPhone. If I'm using android I should have done that like 100 times by now via bluetooth. I just don't understand why Apple makes it so complicated.

    Hi there steven89757,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps for AirDrop found in the article below.
Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices
    Tips for sending files
Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on your Mac and your iOS device. Although you don't have to connect to a specific network, Wi-Fi needs to be on to send and receive files using AirDrop.
Move your devices closer together. AirDrop is designed to work within a range of approximately 30 feet (9 meters). If you need to send a file to someone farther away, consider using File Sharing, iCloud, or email instead.
If you're using a firewall on your Mac, you won't be able to receive AirDrop files if you have enabled "Block all incoming connections" in the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences.
Make sure your devices meet system requirements for AirDrop.

  • Why doesn't my MacBook show up in AirDrop on my iPhone 5S?

So I downloaded Yosemite yesterday. I was very excited to be able to AirDrop between my MacBook & my iPhone 5S, but it doesn't seem to be working properly. My iPhone shows up in AirDrop on my Mac, but my Mac doesn't show up on my iPhone. I can send files from my Mac  to my iPhone, but not vice versa. Is there some kind of bug in the software? Am I doing something wrong? Or is this just not possible? It's really bugging me and any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I have the exact same situation. Downloaded Yosemite yesterday to my Macbook Pro Retina. Airdrop works from the Macbook Pro to my iPhone 5S, but not from the iPhone to the Mac. I tried all the troubleshooting to no avail. I hope they fix this ASAP.

  • Airdrop doesn't work since upgrading to Yosemite

    Hi,
My wife and I have an MBP each, both running Yosemite with all available patches.  If we open airdrop on our macs we both see each other.  If I drag a file over her in airdrop and drop it, nothing happens.  She doesn't get a prompt and nor do I, the file doesn't seem to appear on her computer either.
If she sends me a file however, it works as expected.
Before Yosemite when I did this it would bring up a bubble asking if I wanted to send, I'd click it, she'd click the bubble asking if she wants to receive it and the file would appear.

    Hello nzgeek,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like AirDrop works in one direction but not in both on one computer. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • Airdrop on ios 7 iphone 5

I've been having difficulties with Airdrop. I turn it on for everyone. I'm not able to see other people on my airdrop but they can see me on theirs. Is it because I have some sort of setting on my phone? What do I need to do to have their phone show up on my airdrop?

    Hello itztinaxp,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I recommend 2 things for this airdrop issue. First, restart the iPhone, and try again.
    Restarting your iOS device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
After the device has turned off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
From: iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, I would next reset the network settings on your device.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
From: iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

    Take care,
