Airdrop between a Mac and iOS device requires:
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector
your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed
your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed
Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.

Did you know that now with iOS7 on your iPhone 5 and above, iPad 4, iPad Mini and iPod Touch 5th gen that you can AirDrop your photos and documents?
You simply just need to turn on Bluetooth AND WiFi in your settings. No Wifi connectivity or bluetooth setup required.
In your Control Center, tap on AirDrop and select Everyone. From there, go into your Photos, select a photo you'd like to share, then tap on the Share button on the bottom left corner. Airdrop after iOS 8 upgrade

HI,
I have recently updated my iPad mini to iOS 8 and noticed a bad behavior when transfering photos to my iPhone 5s.
the problem is that everytime I try to share a set of photos, only few (4 in my last attempt, when 6 photos were selected) are sent to the iPhone although it says that all the photos were received.
I Have repeatidly tried it with no hope receiving the whole set, except when only 1 photo is shared.
Note that my iPhone is also running iOS 8 and I have never had this problem with iOS 7.

as i known , AirDrop only available for iphone 5 above with IOS7 , at the moment i can send & pairing well with others iphone 5 devices with IOS 7 above, but after my iphone 5S had upgraded to firmware 8.0.2 the connection failed to search any nearby iphones 5/5S devices nearby even if the AirDrop were set to everyone instead of contact only

Probably just a bug that apple will sort out... I just tried to airdrop a voice memo and a photo from my iPhone to my mac. My mac can see my iPhone, but when I press airdrop on the phone nothing happens. The phone recognizes my partner's iPhone, and airdrop works as expected between the two phones, but it seems like the iPhone - mac airdrop doesn't work yet?
I thought this was something that Yosemite could do now?

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro does not see other devices in airdrop

Hi,
I am able to turn on airdrop. There are no restrictions preventing me seeing other devices or them seeing me. I am unable to connect with my iPhone 5 or IPad air 2 in airdrop. Any suggestions to resolve this issue?

There are none. A pre-2012 Mac will not see iOS devices in AirDrop.

Our iPad wasn't showing the name of the person signed in to Find My Friends under ME. It was showing someone else. We deleted that person's contact from Contacts. Removed Find My Friends. Rebooted iPad. Reinstalled Find My Friends. Now it says My Location. Better. Added the contact back in - still working fine.

My Mac Doesn't Show to Others on AirDrop

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display running the latest Mac OS X 10.8.3 with all the updates. My Mac is obviously supported by AirDrop as it is a current model. When I 1st got it, I used AirDrop all the time to transfer files back and forth with nearby colleagues. Then one day I went to use it as I always did and noticed that my Mac no longer showed up to others when we both went to AirDrop. I could see their Macs, but they couldn't see mine. I verified this later with my own MacBook Air 13" (current model) I could see the MacBook Air on the MacBook Pro, but not the other way around. The only way my MBP shows up on thei other computer is if I initiate a transfer to theirs it shows up long enough for them to accept the transfer and do the trasnfer. Once the transfer is complete my MBP disappears from there's again even though AirDrop is open on both Macs.
Here's what I've tried based on all the tips I could find on my searches.
Yes my MBP is supported by AirDrop (it used to work just fine)
Yes both Macs have Finder windows open with AirDrop active (it used to work just fine and I'm aware of how to use it)
No, the Firewall is NOT enabled on my MBP (never has been).
Yes, WiFi is on
Removed my Apple ID from Users and Groups and put it back in again.
Repiard permissions and the disk.
I have an external drive that I sometimes boot from for beta testing software. When I boot from that drive AirDrop works! So this leads me to believe that it's something to do with my internal drive's OS.
One tip I saw was to boot in Safe Mode (shift key down) and Repair Permissions. This is where I ran into a new problem. My MBP would hang during the Safe Boot. The progress bar would bet about 1/3rd the way through before just hanging. I let it go for hours and it never booted. After doing a little research I decided ti was time to backup my drive, boot from a clone backup, REFORMAT the internal drive, install a fresh copy of 10.8.3 and have it put the data, apps back on from the backup. After this process was done I tried AirDrop and IT WORKED! Problem solved! Or at least I thought. I closed the MBP after putting it to sleep and moved it back to my office. Woke it up and just for kicks I tried it one more time and to my dismay I could see the MBA, but the MBA couldn't see the MBP anymore!!! I didn't change any settings. It worked once, but now won't work again.
I rebooted and it worked! Woohoo or at least I thought. A few minutes after that post reboot success I tried it again and it didn't work. So it seems that it works soon after a restart and then it dies. I tested this theory with another Restart and sure enough the MBP showed up on the MBA (after about 20 seconds, whle the MBA shows up on the MBP immediately every time). I close the window on both Macs and try it again and the problem is back. I only get one use of AirDrop after a reboot from the MBP.
I'm at a loss as to what to try next. There has to be some preference somewhere that's keeping it from showing my MBP on other Macs.

I have a similar problem.
I have three macs.
iMac on 10.8.4 (bought May 2013) (this is the one I'm typing on at the moment)
MacBook Pro 15" on 10.8.4 (bought July 2013)
MacBook Pro 13" on 10.7.5 (bought Sept 2011)
The MacBook Pros can detect one another in Airdrop but not the iMac.
The iMac detects neither of the MBPs.
In Shared on the iMac it can see the 13" MacBook Pro
in Shared on the MBP 15" it can see both the iMac and MBP 13"
In Shared on the MBP 13" it can see only the iMac
This, to me, is all very confusing.
I can figure out the sharing thing but not the Airdrop issue. Also, I searched for the three files you mention but don't have these on board.
Any ideas?

Airdrop is not working after upgrading to IOS 7.1

does anyone have the similar issue of Airdrop ?
The airdrop was working in my iphone 5s, but never worked when I upgraded to IOS7.1, and the same to my ipad mini.
I tried to reset network setting, hard reboot the IOS, turn off / on Airdrop and WIFI and Bluetooth, etc. No change.
Any idea?

My Air Drop feature is not working. I have an iPhone 5S running iOS 7.0.3, my wifi and blue tooth is on and I am set to "everyone" in control panel. I am not able to see anyone in the AirDrop box to be to share pics or contacts.

My wifi and Bluetooth is on, in control panel I have "Everyone" on, I cannot see other iOS devices that are using iPhone 5 or 5S. My phone is only a couple of weeks old and was purchased brand new and I am on AT&T. I can not see other devices and other devices can not see me. I checked the manuel and I don't see any other settings other then what I described above in regards to control panel. Anyone have a solution for me? Oh by the way I have rebooted my phone, did a hard reset 3 different times but still not working. I do have an active iClould account.

I read a previous blog from a Mac user who was having an AirDrop issue. He resolved it by deleting his icloud account and reinstalling it. I figured what will it hurt to try this with my iPhone 5S. Well I am happy to say it worked. I recall recently changing my Apple ID password. This must have affected the Airdrop feature. When I reloaded my IClould account it started working. I don't know why but it's something you can try if all else fails. Hope this helps someone.

How do I enable airdrop on my macbook pro late 2011

I noticed the airdrop folder in my finder folder but never used it. Now that I want to use it, it is no longer there. Is there anyway to get it back and enable it's use?

Hit command-, in Finder (or choose preferences) and ensure the AirDrop icon is checked to show in the sidebar.
Note you have to have WiFi turned on to use AirDrop.

Can't find airdropped videos on my iPad with iOS 8.1

I just airdropped 9 avi videos from my Mac Pro (OS X 10.10) to my iPad Air 2 (iOS 8.1). AirDrop says it went well but when I go in Photos, there's nothing in my Photos section (even though I had a 4.1 Gb airdropped avi file there a few days ago).
The total size of my AirDrop transfert is approx. 3,5 Go, but Settings tell me that 'Photos and cameras' is 2,5 Gb (changed to 950 Mb when writing this message), when there only are 3 photos in my Photos app !!
I don't understand a single thing here, can someone give me a clue, please ?

Hi,
The aIrdropped videos on the iOS devices end up in the Photos App under "ALL PHOTOS" album for me. Perhaps that is where you videos are.

your solution is nice for people who don't care about spoiling their system disk, which I agree must be numerous today.
But would you possibly have another suggestion to avoid documents sent via Airdrop to end up at all on the System disk ? I mean, just as one can do it for the Safari or Mail downloads, where you can define a default folder located on a different hard disk ? I'm with a MacPro, and System disk is intended only for... system, not files, so to avoid fragmentations issues from multiple erase actions of unnecessary files.
Is it possible that Apple writes "default folder" and forgot that "default" means one can opt for an alternative solution ??? Has Apple gone that un-professional ? Please tell me I've just missed a line somewhere... and that I don't have to rely once more on a third party app...

After upgrading to yosemite macbook air(mid 2011) cannot connect to macbook air(early 2014) via airdrop

last night i upgraded mine and my wife macbook air to yosemite.
before, we can share files with airdrop easily but now the mba (early 2014) can not send file to the other one , also the old one
