Aironet 1140 series units won't connect to a gigabit switch

I just installed 2 new units and neither will connect to a new HP gigabit switch - no link light, other devices can connect to the switch OK.  Their gigabit ethernet settings are set to auto for duplex and speed.  I also tried forcing one of them to full duplex and 1000 Mbps which didn't work either.  They're both powered by POE injectors.  If I connect them to a 10/100 switch they work fine.
Am I missing something?

Leo,
Thanks for the reply, sorry I'm late getting back to this, I was lucky enough to have a long weekend off.
I'm no cabling expert, that's why I hired somebody else to do it.  But I have a question: should standard cat 5 cable work?
If so, I disconnect the WAP from the cabling that was installed and hooked it up with cat 5 patch cables that I confirmed to be work OK by using them to connect the gigabit switch to a laptop.  When I used the same patch cables on the WAP I still got a failure to connect to the same switch.  So unless it's not standard cat 5 that I should be using it doesn't appear that cabling is my problem.

  • Aironet 1500 series point to point connection

Hello, I have a question for cisco Aironet 1500 series. I want to connect two of them as point to point in a distance about 6 km (kilometers). So there are two questions, can them be connected as point to point to transmit signal and the second one what is the max distance of AP to be connected.
    Kind regards,
    Ardit

There are a lot of factors when it comes to an outdoor bridge connection. What kind of traffic is going to pass over that link? How much bandwidth do you need? Is there an free line of sight and can you place the (high gain) external antennas somewhere high or maybe even in an tower? And what about the factors you can't influence like the weather?
I personally don't have experience with this kind of high distances, but if you are going to do an test I would advise to go for the 1570 bridges and select an high gain antenna. A good starting-point for outdoor point-to-point connections is Cisco's WNG Coverage Capacity Calculator. You can also use tis tool to calcuate your Effective Isotropic Radiated Power, which should not exceed the rules dictated by your regulatory domain.

  • Connecting two linksys gigabit switches

    Hi,
I just bought a slm2024 (24 port managed Gigbabit switch) to replace an older 100Mbit switch. The old switch had PCs and other switches connected to it. The other switches are EG005W ver. 3. (linksys workgroup 5 port gigabit switches)
With the new slm2024 switch, the PCs have no problems connecting. The problem is the EG005W switches. The port on the slm2024 which connects both switches is dark (the LED is dark - no lights at all). Any thoughts on what is the problem? Do I need to configure something special on the slm2024?
I do have an older 100Mbit switch and if I connect it to the new slm2024 switch, the lights are on and traffic is flowing. It is just the EG005W that does not seem to like being plugged in the gigabit switch. It used to work when plugged in the older 100Mbit switch.
Oh and if I try to plug in two EG005W together, I get the same problem. PCs connected to the 2nd switch cannot communicate out either.
I understand that in the past cross-over cables where needed to connect switches but I thought that new switches no longer require this (even my old 100Mbit switch did not require this for the EG005W to work through it).
Any thoughts on how to fix or debug this?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

there shouldn't be any configuration needed on the ports of the SLM2024 because they are already "smart ports"
this could be a possible problem between these 2 devices -- have heard of similar problem before bet. a switch and hub but i have forgotten their model numbers -- you would think that since they came from the same manufacturer you will have an easier set-up but sometimes that's just not the case

  • Question regarding the use of Cisco Aironet 1140 series

We are looking at deploying some of the Cisco Aironet Access Points as standalone. We are essentially setting up a hotspot. They will mainly be in conference rooms at each of our field offices so visitors attending our meetings can have internet access. Do clients have to use Cisco wireless adapters in order to connect
to any of Cisco Aironet Access Points or can they use whatever wireless card they have as long as it supports the bands available?
Thx in advance for any advice given.

Any product which displays the Wi-Fi Certified logo, including everything from Cisco, should interoperate with any other Wi-Fi Certified gear.

  • IPod Shuffle Series 1 won't connect to iTunes

I have an iPod Shuffle Series 1 that shows in Windows but not in iTunes. I have the latest version of iTunes, I've been through the troubleshooting and the various other suggestions. I've reinstalled iTunes and I've disabled the security software but to no avail. I have a laptop with an older version of iTunes (but also running Windows 7) and it does recognise the iPod. Is this an iTunes version issue or is there something else?

  • Scan / Fax won't connect - check Fast User Switching

    Hi,
    6. I'm pretty certain my computer has never been worked on, but... I don't have a serial number in the "About this mac" screen. I can't remember, perhaps I bought the computer refurbished from Apple...but it's never been into a store for repairs.
So, how likely is it that this is related to the serial number thing? Are there other things I can test that would confirm or at least support this theory?
If so, does this mean everyone with a missing serial number can't use messages?
Judging by the people who have posted that they 1) Had the missing Serial Number and 2) got it fixed it would seem that it is important.
There are some more recent threads/posts that suggest that at least for a time some people with version 7.0.1 of Messages (Came with OS X 10.8.2 Update) had the iMessages account working for them.
It seems that FaceTime and GameStation also seem to use the serial number in verification.
    You could test those.

  • Won't connect to afp server

We have a 2 x 2 GHz G5 which was recently upgraded to X.4.5 and connected to a Gigabit switch. Everything initially worked fine. The other day the computer crashed while compressing files in Cleaner, and since then it won't connect to our server anymore, and Cleaner won't startup either. Internet acces still works. Our two other macs, with similar configurations, still have acces to the server.
When I try to connect to our server a window appears saying connecting to afp://... then a second window appears which says searching for "name of server" but they just stall there.
When I tried to launch Cleaner, the same second window appears saying searching for server, but Cleaner won't launch. I trashed Cleaner's prefs and it now launchs.
I tried trashing the network prefs, to no avail.
    any ideas ?
    Cheers,
    Damien

    UPDATE
Although the other macs could connect via AFP, this particular G5 couldn't until the password scheme for AFP was set to "Apple Clear Text" on the Windows Small Business 2003 Server.
    - On the server Go "Start'
    - Right Click "My Computer"
    - Choose "Manage" - This will open the Computer Management Window
    - Right click "Shared Folders"
    - Choose "Configure File Server For Macintosh"
    - Under "Enable Authentication" choose "Apple Clear Text" from the menu
    - Click "Apply", then "OK"
If this isn't done, some OSX Macs may receive a -35 error when trying to connect to the server - I still don't know why the other macs we're fine as all Macs were running OS 10.4.6

  • G5 imac wont connect to gigabit switch at 1000

    Hi,
I've got a G5 imac that wont connect to my gigabit switch at 1000. It looks like it connects at that speed for a few seconds then it drops to 100. I have a new Macbook pro that can easily connect at 1000 using that exact same cable.
Has anyone heard of any gigabit issues with G5 imacs?
    Thanks,
    Scott

I am now pretty sure it is the imac ethernet port. Connected the imac and mini together and eventually it set itself to 100Mbs.
Now trying to decide if it is worth getting fixed or just dealing with it only connecting at 100Mbs.
    Thanks
    Jason

  • Android 4.1 tablet not connecting to Aironet 1140

Hello community, I am having an issue with my Android Tablet running 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It is able to the SSID, but when I try to connect - it stays connecting and then says saved, and never connects, as it does not pick up an IP address. I updated the firmware on the Aironet 1140 due to my Windows 8 pc's not connecting as well, it solved my Windows 8 problem, just not my Android Tablet problem. My Ipads do work. Just any android device I connect...
Anyone, ran into this issue that can assist?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Cannot get Windows 7 x64 laptop to connect to AIRONET 1140 WAP

I recently changed the configuration of my Aironet 1140 from WEP to WAP2-Enterprise to make it more secure. I am using the WAP as the radius server. After making the change I connected my Blackberry to the wap as well as a Samsung Chromebook.  However when I tried to connect my HP laptop it is unable to connect. Watching from the Aironet's console I see that it is processing the association and windows ask me to enter my uid and password. When I do this I get an authentication error. • Aironet 1140 54Mbps connection speed

We are having some issues with our AP: Aironet 1140 at our head office where people are complaining of slow connection speeds.
I have gone through the configuration on the controller and noticed that all Clients were connecting at 802.11g connection speeds (54Mbps).
I have noticed in the configuration page on the controller Wireless>802.11b/g/n > High Throughput is disabled.  (See attached screenshot)
I don’t want to just enable this setting in case it disconnects all the users from all the AP’s not just the ones at head office.
We use 802.1x for authentication and Machine certificates.
    All Clients connect using WPA2.
Would this settings increase the connection speed up to 802.11n?
Is there a way to just enable it on 1 AP to trial it before enabling it on all the AP’s?

The wireless speed is only 15-20mbps Max. When connected via Lan cable the speed is around 45mbps.
As scott said, you are getting this speed due to the half duplex nature of wireless. If your AP model is 1142, then you can configure radio1 interface (5GHz)  for the SSID. You MUST use WPA2/AES  or Open Auth in order to get 802.11n speeds which is greater than 54Mbps. I do not think you are using that at the moment & it may be a reason why clients data rates not get 802.11n speeds.
Below shows different AP model max data rates. If your clients having multiple spatical stream (SS) capability they can get higher speeds. Note that 20MHz BW is the max you can get in 2.4GHz band & 40MHz bandwidth you can get from 5GHz with channel bonding. So 5GHz is always better if you looking for higher througput (but obviously client should able to connect in 5GHz)
Adding antoher AP would be a good idea (without bridging) & see wether you could afford 2602 or 3602 which can go upto 450Mbps data rates . Practically if you could you get 50% (which is around 200Mbps) that is really good. Note that this is total AP througput & if you connect multiple clients that will be shared among users.
Also keep in mind when you add multiple users all users aggregate bandwidth is limited to 50Mbps due to your WAN link speed. So that would be the bottleneck within your network.

  • Aironet 1140 connection and log questions

    Hi Cisco gurus,
Recently we decided to change the name of one of our Aironet 1140 AP's. Everything was great for a few days then, for some reason, nobody was able to connect to it. They would all recieve timeout messages when they would connect. A quick reset solved the problem, but I'm curious if there was an actual reason to why it didn't allow users to connect in case it happens again.
Which brings me to my next question, how do you set the AP clock so that the event logs display the proper date and time? I'm sure I overlooked something, but I can't find out how to set the proper date and time.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Trouble with Aironet 1300 series

I have a cisco aironet 1300 series and i need to reset it back to factory default.  the directions say push the mode button while the access point is off and then turn it on while the mode button is down...
i don't see one button on this thing anywhere.
    help needed

    Hi Jim,
The 1310 bridge/injector do not have a mode button for configuration reset. However, you can reset the configuration if you use the console port on the injector:
    1) Connect console port and power-cycle unit
    2) When IOS starts loading, hit ESC key twice to get to the boot-loader prompt
    3) At the boot-loader prompt show a directory of the flash filesystem (dir  flash:)
    4) Delete or rename the files "config.txt" and "env_vars", then boot the  system ("delete flash:/config.txt" "delete flash:/env_vars")
(The default user/pass should be Cisco/Cisco)
