Aironet 1231G for home use

Hi all
I've been given an Aironet 1231G that I would like to set up for home use. Has anyone got any example configs for this type of setup that I could take a look at? Nothing too complicated is needed, just something simple and secure.
Thanks
Andy

Since you are new to this, just look at this link. You will need to register, but this will help:

  • Setting up Cisco Aironet 1250 for home use

    Hey everyone,
I'm rather new to the whole Enterprise Router lines. I've set up countless networks with Linksys routers in the past. However, this Aironet is giving me more trouble than I'd want it to. I was wondering if anyone could help. I've assigned it an IP Address and accessed that In-Browser interface and set up an SSID and activated the two extensions. I've been able to connect to the router with my computer and access the internet without restriction. However, when I attempt to connect a second PC or Laptop to the network, it won't allow network access to the second device. I've been stuck there forever. Is there any specific setup method I need to use to make sure more than one workstation/device? I want to use this router for home use, I often use laptops and move around the house a lot, so the advantage of better connection signal and speed is well worth it. Any help is highly apprieciated. If you need more information, don't hesitate to contact me.

Sorry for my late reply. Here is the config:
It wasn't connected to anything. This was a raw pull from a fresh cold boot.

  • Confused how to set-up a PC & laptop with Cisco WRVS4400N VPN for home use

Just bought a new PC and laptop and was recommended by (CDW) to use a Cisco WRVS4400N to set up the VPN.
For home use, only the PC and laptop, both running Windows 7.  I use Comcast as my ISP.
The mountains of docs confuses me to no end, can anyone simplify this for me.  I look at all the details and do not know where to start.
    In short,
    (1) configure router to recognize my PC and Comcast, and I guess the laptop.
    (2) configure laptop to go wireless and communicate with PC.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Terry

For a very small office and a minimum of admin and tech know how, one approach i'd suggest is to not worry about user id collisions at all. any time anyone wants to use a mac you just set them up as a user, using consistent names/passwords.
Have a "Work" volume on each mac that has "ignore ownership on this volume" ticked. that way UID collisions aren't important.
You can make a Desktop folder on the Work volume and make a SYMBOLIC LINK from every user's home that replaces their desktop with the desktop folder on the Work volume.
Make it known that the user's home is for personal stuff ONLY, and the Work volume (inc the desktop) is where work in progress lives.
At a later date with some confidence in your network and your admin skills you could impose consistent UIDs using an OD master

  • OEM - do I need a license for home use?

    Guys
    I installed Oracle 10.1 on Solaris 10 x86.
Whenever I try to load http://localhost:5500/em, I get a permission denied error.
    01. This is for home use (learning). Do I need a license?
    Thanks in advance

    A few things to check:
    1. Check the installation Manual to ensure the owner(installer) of the software has all the required privilege granted to it and that the dbconsole is started by that user (instead of root).
    2. Check that you are accessing the correct port. It is not always in port 5500. Check the file $ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini to ensure you are entering the right port.
    3. Check that you are using the correct host name. Use the name of the Server instead of localhost. Also if at install time you used the Long Servername (e.g ugoserver.ugonic.com.ng), you will have permission problem when /etc/hosts file has only the entry for the Short Servername (e.g ugoserver). So check and append the long Servername to the end of the line.
    4. Remember to have a look at emca.log file for more error message details

  • What type of mac do i need for home use to watch and edit videos

What type / power of MAC do i need for home use to watch and edit vedeos as well as basic computer work?

Any of the new Macs for home - iMac or MacBook Pro are even fine. You don't need a 65lb workstation tower. If you want a tower for how well and long they hold up, and can be upgraded, that is another matter and fine and might be overkill at first.
Even the base Mac Pro will get you there.

  • Document management for home use

    Hello,
I am going to / wanting to scan all documents (bills, insurance stuff, tax, ...) that I receive and want to archive it on my machine. For that I'm looking for some document management system suitable for home use. While I'm not afraid of some configuration (heavy Emacs user), I'm not very fond of big fat solutions that involve setting up an entire LAMP system (ok, the L is already there ;-).
Format will be PDFs mostly that have some meta data added (date, tags, received from, ...).
There is TagSpaces http://www.tagspaces.org/ which goes into the right direction, but still looking for alternatives....
I also thought about adapting Emacs org-mode to it....
GUI prefered, but CLI may be fine too.
What do you use? Any ideas and thought welcome!
    Thanks!

    Calibre?
I use that for all my pdf's. Great tagging system, and if you give all files a common tag you could setup a virtual library inside to keep it more together, apart from your other pdf's/ebooks.

  • Is it possible to use Citrix for home-use and for free, Only one use?

    Hi
I am a .Net developer so i need to have Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft Windows for my Work, but i like iPad 2 in Tablets so that i bought one, Now in a video i have seen that Citrix is such a professional Desktop and App Virtualization that it seems Microsoft Windows is running on iOS, so i want to use it but not for business and just for home use, is it possible to set it up for free?
    Best Regards,
    PK DEVELOPER

Citrix does not allow iOS to run Windows. Citrix products are one of several ways to connect an iOS device to a system that does run Windows and allow the iOS device to take control of that Windows system. Citrix, to the best of my knowledge, does not make their back-end products (i.e. the software that runs on the system to which you want to connect) available for free; it's usually quite expensive as it's intended for enterprise use.
Citrix for home use would almost certainly be vast overkill, though. Just do a web search for "VNC". VNC is a solution for Windows and iOS that would allow you to take control of your Windows system.
    Regards.

  • Old battery for home use and 1 "traveller" battery? good idea?

My powerbook is my main computer and is connected to the adapter 90% of the time.
Would there be a noticable benefit from only using the new battery if i need to go on the road and leave the current battery in the laptop for home use?
If so is it best to leave the new battery half charged when not in use?

You might want to read this page on the same site as the previous link, because most of my opinions are based on sources like that one, since I am not myself a battery expert.
So what would you class as a shallow discharge? 50 or
    75%?
This is going to sound stupid, but I don't really put a number on it, only because I haven't seen one. I only see the advice about shallow vs. deep discharges. But I also don't think it needs to be that precise. The most damaging percentages seem to be 0% and 100%. I am not sure there is so much difference between 50% and 75%. Also, it's pointless to finesse it around that range because if you are on battery and you need to work longer, you should work longer. Being able to use the runtime you bought is more important than ekeing out incremental runtime preservation. I think this is why Apple's advice is so general, because it will essentially accomplish the goal. ("An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge.") Unplug it when you need battery, and plug it back in when you don't need battery.
As the battery will sometimes "rest" for a month or
more should i follow the apple battery care
suggestion and leave it at 50% ?
That seems fine. The page I linked to says 40%. Other sites say 40% and in the fridge. Again, anywhere in the ballpark is probably Close Enough.
Network, do you leave the battery at a specific
    charge when resting?
Resting plugged in, 100% obviously, can't do much about that.
Resting and not in the laptop (short term offline), I aim for 90-95%. The only reason for that is on the site I linked to, it says "The worst condition is keeping a fully charged battery at elevated temperatures," so I figure it's easy to not have it fully charged. However, I will not drain it to 40% for short-term room temp storage, because that would require planning at least an hour ahead to charge it back up to 100% before going out the door. If you forget to do that, you walk out the door with your 40% charged battery, and that 5ucks.
Resting long-term, I'll drain to around 40%, put it in a ziploc bag, and put it in the fridge. Some say getting it down to fridge temperature isn't important, and I really don't know. But all agree, never put it in the freezer!!!!!
There is a balance here between convenience and runtime preservation. If you wanted to obsess over runtime preservation you could drain to 50% and fridge it every time you take it out of the laptop, but the reason that's totally stupid is that every time you want to use it you have to get it back up to room temperature and charge it. That's why I like to have different criteria for might-need-it-today storage (almost charged, room temp) and long-term storage (half discharged in the fridge).
The reason i'm hammering at this is that this
powerbook is nearing the end of its cycle and i doubt
i'll invest in another battery in the future.
Totally understand. That's why I looked into this stuff myself. But since I have a battery that's pretty new, and I think I can get decent runtime out of it for at least 2 years, that means it should last long until the ol' PowerBook G4 feels out of date enough for me to upgrade.
The main points here are, if you want to use your battery for its intended purpose, don't worry about micromanaging the percentages, just use it normally, don't drain it every time, keep it cool when possible.

  • Server for home-use

I was able to get my hands on a older hp model rackmount (dl380 G3 Series) for free. It has 6x Ultra3 SCSI 15k drives, so it's a bit loud but the noise doesn't bother me. I plan to use it for a rsync host mainly, so I can sync from PC to laptop very easily (and my wife wants to be able to sync all of our family pictures/videos to her netbook from her PC). And also to pull all my movies from my roku & old neuros. I will find plenty more uses in the future. I was just wondering if this might be a little bit overkill for home-use. I figured since I got it for free, I want to put it to use. Like I said, I dont mind the noise and I can keep it cool enough, I am just worried about the power usage. How much power does a server use... when it's not being "used" And what about power configurations, for people who have the same deal as me. Because I wont be using it 24/7.

I have a couple of these exact units for home... They are loud and expensive. I don't have exact figures, but I can't afford to run them. I bought a rack-case and built a custom "server" instead. The DL380's are now at work instead (where I don't pay the electricity bill )
Thanks. I wonder how it would be with green SATA drives and some power config tweaks. For now, I'll stick with my backup drive in my desk drawer and rsync for my laptop. Thanks all.

  • Early 2008 Mac Pro for home use

    Hello guys,
I've been using usual Windows PCs at home (watching movies through HDMI, playing a few games - Counter Strike and random racing games), browsing internet, working in PS and Light room etc, but mostly for watching HD movies. But I was able to get myself Early 2008 Mac Pro - 10gb memory, two dual core intel xeon processors, 256 Ati Radeon graphics cards and 1tb ssd hard drive. Now I wanted to know how good is Mac Pro for home use? As I said I don't do many things with my windows based PC and wanted to switch to faster, quieter mac pro. Any opinions?  How good it is as a home entertainment center?
P.S. Counter strike is available now for Mac, so I don't really care about other games.

dump the 2600XT and there I would pay for a Mac Edition AMD 7950, else PC card
    1TB SSD is unusual gift
even though 8 cores it is 6 yrs old and most things don't use 8 cores that much, it predates the i7-920,
USB3 has to be added if you want it or put USB3 on your LAN router is what I do.
It does not get the official nod of support from Apple for Windows 8/8.1 but it does if you want run 7 or 7 Pro (dual cpu support)
FBDIMMs have gotten better and cheaper if you want or need to, many do, often due to early death.

  • Need expansion port 3 docking station for dv6-1211ax for home use .... suggestions please ...

i have a dv6-1211ax laptop and planning to get a hp expansion port 3 based docking station for home use ...  can anyone suggest or comment on how they really perform ..

I have a pair of HP XB4 Notebook Media Docking Stations being used on two DV7s.  I think they work quite well, unlike the current docking stations they use the expansion port 3 and you can power both the laptop and the docking stations from a single power supply.  Speaker sound especially subwoofer is much better than the laptops (these are 2009 and 2010 model DV7s so they have the Altec Lansing speakers (as does the docking station) vs. the 2011 laptop Beats Audio.
I also like the way the docking station raises the laptop 6-8 inches above desk level.
Do make sure your system is using the expansion port 3 though since at least some of the 2011 systems no longer have the expansion port (the connection from the station to the laptop is via USB 2.0 hopefully at some time the new docking stations will be updated to use USB 3.0) along with the laptops.
For a laptop that is being used a Desktop replacement I would highly recommend the XB4
p.s since HP doesn't sell them anymore you may have to go to Ebay, Amazon or a wholeseller)

  • Copy cd & dvd for home use

i read recently that the UK was about to vote in a (for lack of a better word) legislation that would allow the "legal" copying of cd's and (more importantly) dvd's, for home use only.
i think this is a wonderful idea, and i have very strong feelings and opinions regarding this. but my question is, is there something in the works like that in the US?
i applaud the UK for their foresight in seeing that the "old" laws do not work in today's age, and would hope that the US sees the need for something like this here.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The subject is perhaps not as straight forward as you might think.
Legislation allows you to make a back up copy of content you have purchased yourself for your own use only, I believe this applies in both the UK and the US.
The issue is that whilst this makes backing up CD's legitimate, it does not do the same for protected DVD's. Legislation prohibits the circumvention of copy protection, and you can't copy a protected DVD (even for back up) unless you also break the legislation on copy protection.

  • I am considering a base 21" iMac ($1099 @ Best Buy) for home use.  It would be my first Mac.  Is the base model powerful enough for everyday home use and some light video editing or should I upgrade the CPU, Ram and to a Fusion drive?

Purchasing with the upgrades through Apple would add about $800 over the Black Friday deal at Best Buy.  Just looking for some advice if I will be satisfied with the based model.

All models will do what you want. Upgraded models will do it faster than the standard models.
Just why are you thinking of switching to a Mac?
