Aironet 1250 Configuration Help
Hello to all,
I'm an vmware\linux system administrator with very low skills in networking, I just bought 3 Cisco Aironet 1250 2.4ghz + 5ghz for my testing network and I need help to configure them.
Scenario:
1 - I have 3 Cisco Aironet 1250
2 - I want to create 2 wifi networks, SSID guest (vlan 11) and SSID production (vlan 1) in 2.4ghz + 5ghz
2a- I want to configure security WPA2-PSK without RADIUS Server.
3 - Aironet 1250 # 1 is connected to ethernet vlan1 (production)
4 - Aironet 1250 # 2 is connected to ethernet vlan11 (guest)
5 - Aironet 1250 # 3 is connected to ethernet vlan1 (production)
These are the first configuration commands found:
configureno ip domain-lookupline vty 0 4no exec-timeoutenableconfigure terminalinterface dot11radio 0encryption vlan 1 mode ciphers aes-ccmssid Productionvlan 1authentication openauthentication key-management wpa version 2wpa-psk ascii password1guest-modeend interface dot11radio 1encryption vlan 11 mode ciphers aes-ccmssid Guestvlan 11authentication openauthentication key-management wpa version 2wpa-psk ascii password2guest-modeend
When I try to set the repeater configuration webinterface tells me configuration errors.
Any help is welcome, sorry for my newbie!
Thanks a lot!
Since each AP is connected via Ethernet, you don't need to set any as a repeater. Here are some links that show you what you need to have multiple SSID's and multiple vlans.

Unable to Connect to Cicso Aironet 1250
My office just bought the Cisco Aironet 1250 and I am task to set it up. Right now, I am unable to connect to AP even when it is configured as Open Authentication without encryption. Tried using both laptops and our products to no avail. The same laptops and products are able to connect to other wireless routers So far, only my Linksys Wireless-G USB network Adapter is able to detect it.
We are very puzzled by this because we are able to setup and connect to it initially. But when we try to reconfigure it to another setting, everything starts to fail. We have tried doing factory default.
The AP is connect only to a Windows 2003 Server running DHCP and IAS. Appreciate if someone can help me on this. ThanksHi All,
Here are screen capture of my configuration

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 and Aironet 1250 + VSS issues
Hi,
I am new to the NCS implementations and configurations. I have one very specific case with Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 and autonomnous APs and several issues with Cisco VSS on 6500 switches.
So here is the version from Prime:

Well the issue what we have now is that access point has been added but its not recognized by the NCS prime. I have tried all three versions of SNMP but I get the same result. The SNMP configuration is valid since I use the same for my switching infrastructure. When I enter "debug snmp packets" and "terminal monitor" I can see the SNMP communication between Prime and Aironet 1250 which is standalone.
When I switch to Lifecycle theme and go to Operate > Device Monitor Center I see all devices I have added. The Aironet 1250 is reachable but under collection status I get Managed with Warnings. When I hover over with my mouse I get "None available".
I have successfully added my switching infrastructure in total, which is operating perfectly for Catalyst 2960/3650/3750/4500 series but for 6500 under VSS I have some warnings. The device is recognized by the system which is excellent and all is operational. I get the following errors under Collection Status:
feature_sensor
SNMP request timed out
feature_powerSupplyFanStatus-6k
SNMP request timed out
IdentityCapability
The device is unreachable.
feature_flashdevice
SNMP request timed out
sam_ipsla_feature
The device is unreachable.
What can be done to resolve these issues ? I have attached a screenshot of this particular issue. The affected access point is 172.16.165.241.
Predrag PetrovicHi rajeeshp,
Currently I am not allowed to upgrade it because of internal procedures involved in upgrading a specific piece of software (obtaining permissions from various departments). Is it free to upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 or there is a specific charge for that.

4 Aironet 1250's and a controller?
Hi guys,
I'm about to order a four Aironet 1250's and a 2106 Wireless LAN Controller. From what I've read, I'll need the controller to manage the APs if I want them all to offer the same broadcast domain and subnet, and offer roaming to the users. Often times what I read and understand turns out to have little to do with reality, so my question is, am I correct about this?
Thanks in advance!

•Service port (separate out-of-band management 10/100-Mbps Ethernet interface)
These software features are not supported on 2000 and 2100 series controllers:
•VPN termination (such as IPSec and L2TP)
•Termination of guest controller tunnels (origination of guest controller tunnels is supported)
•External web authentication web server list
•Layer 2 LWAPP
•Spanning tree
•Port mirroring
•Cranite
•Fortress

I have two buidlings acroos the street from each other. I have two Cisco Aironet 1250 wireless AP's with the first one going in the main building with network backbone. The Second AP goes across the street with the other wired network segment. Both AP's have long range antenas 2.4 GHZ on top of each building. I have configured the 1st one as the Root Bridge. The one across the street is configured as non-root bridge. I have both AP's configured with the same WEP key and also with the same SSID name with both set to broadcast it. I am still unsure and confused as to how I get the non-root bridge to talk to and use the root bridge to get on the main network.
1- It’s main to use the Root parent Mac address.
2- Is there another config that I am missing to get the signal?
Note: I still not getting any signal from the root although distance between root and non-root is 330m
My root antenna is AIR-ANT24120 and non-root antenna is AIR-ANT1949 and attached files is my configuration files
Thank you.1. How are the AIR-ANT24120 and the AIR-ANT1949 installed?
the AIR-ANT24120 is connected virtically on tower far 11m from the earth and AIR-ANT1949 is connected horizontally on tower far 10m from the earth
2. What is the distance between both APs?
350 m
3. Do you have clear line-of-sight between the two?
there is one tanker in the middle between them but it's far 7m from the earth
4. Is the two APs properly aligned?
i think yes and changed the aligned many times without any news (I don't have any tools for alignment)
5. Which point are the antennas connected to? Primary, Secondary or middle?
I tried in the primary and secondary but never tried the middle antenna
Thanks -
I have an interesting problem. I have an aironet 1250. For months my wireless clients has been connecting with no problems. One day there was a power failure, don't remember making any chnages which I should of saved. After, all of my equipment rebooted with no problems. Now I'm seeing my 802.11N clients having connectivity problems. After 10 to 40 mins I believe they get logout, but the client don't get updated to this. The G and the B no problems. Some are Intel chip sets and some are apples base computers.
Anyone seen this?

Will the Cisco Aironet 1250 (802.11n) only require an Firmware upgrade after it has been approved for use and gets past draft 2.0? Im thinking of purchasing for testing but want to make sure that being that its in its early stages that the code will only need to be upgraded once the standards have been created.
Anyone know?
Thanks!Hi Adam,
Have a look at these answers from Cisco;
Q. What is the procedure for upgrading radios in the Cisco Aironet 1250 Series Access Points once future technologies become available?
A. The Cisco Aironet 1250 Series was designed as a modular and upgradable access point platform. When new radio modules become available, the old radio module may easily be removed and replaced in the field.
Q. Will Cisco guarantee that the Cisco Aironet 1250 Series can be upgraded to support the final 802.11n standard?
A. Cisco cannot guarantee that the current Cisco Aironet 1250 IEEE 802.11n draft 2.0 standard radio modules can be software-upgraded to support the final 802.11n standard. However, the modularity of the Cisco Aironet 1250 helps ensure that should the final 802.11n standard require a hardware modification, the impact will be limited to just the radio modules, and will not require a change to the access point. The Cisco Aironet 1250 Series radio modules are field-upgradeable and easy to change.
Investment protection: The Cisco Aironet 1250 Series is a powerful, modular and upgradeable platform that provides support for the IEEE 802.11n draft 2.0 standard today. Platform modularity ensures a smooth migration path to emerging higher-performance wireless technologies and future advanced services.

Cisco Aironet 1250 basic setup questions
Hi,
I'm going to be three Aironet 1250's within a building. There is not going to be a wireless controller, the AP's are all going to be standalone. I am going to set them all up the same, with WPA2 wireless encryption. My question is, is it important/beneficial to add configuration to the AP's so they are aware of each other (for roaming perhaps)? If so, what is this technology called and could someone point me towards a section of a guide that could illustrate this?
Or am I good with just configuring 3 standalone AP's as is.
Any other pointers are welcome.
Thanks!Hi,
On Autonomous APs you can use Wireless Domain Services (WDS) technology which allows the APs to be aware of each other and make roaming faster withouth needing full authentication each time the clients move from one AP to the other.
Basically you configure the same SSIDs on all 3 APs, then only one will act as primary WDS.
The primary WDS will be responsible for the communication between the clients and the RADIUS server, and the infrastructure APs will simply bypass all the info from the clients to the primary WDS and vice-versa.
Evenually you can configure standby WDS with different priorities so that in case of the primary WDS goes down, another AP assumes the role of active WDS.
Configuration Example via AP GUI:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps458/products_configuration_example09186a008059a559.shtml.
In attach you can find an example of config using WDS and Infra APs. You will find example to configure open ssid, psk, and eap using WPA2.
3 diferent vlans.
Clients authenticate against External RADIUS Server and APs authenticate on local RADIUS for WDS.

Aironet 1250 and AIR-ANT2430V-R
Hello,
I've just installed a Aironet 1250 and AIR-ANT2430V-R antenna.
I could do with some pointers on configuring the 2.4Ghz radio interface.
Role: Access Point
Goal: Blanket office coverage
Channel width: 20Mhz or 40+ ?
External Antenna Configuration: Enable
Gain: ??db
Currently I'm seeing speeds between 1Mbps and 144Mbps, with sporadic coverage.
I was expecting £900+ equipment to be better than the £10 D-link POE WAP currently installed! =]
Thank you in advance
KDo you have the rp-tnc connectors fastened tightly?
How are you measuring the bitrate?
Also, have you tried using a tool such as iperf to measure actual throughput and not bitrate?
If you are running 802.11n rates on the 2.4 spectrum and plan to deploy more APs on the network, you will want to stay away from channel bonding.
We do not run 802.11n on the 2.4 side, only the 5Ghz side. -
Aironet 1250 in lightweight mode?
Can the Aironet 1250 802.11n WAPs be made to run in lightweight mode like the 1240's can?
Been poking around the cisco site and cant find anything that clearly says yes or no.
thanks
e-Y'sure can. Here's a link to show you how it's done:
1. The EASY way:
Upgrading Autonomous Cisco Aironet Access Points to Lightweight Mode
www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html
2. The CLI way:
Requirements:
⢠Image file (The recovery file has the prefix ârcvâ in the image name, such as c1200-rcvk9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar);
⢠AP is connected to the Wireless LAN Controller; and
⢠AP can ping the TFTP server where the image is located.
Procedure
1. Copy the recovery file to the AP using the following command:
archive tar /x tftp:/// flash:
2. Let the AP boot on this image:
boot system flash://.bin
3. Reboot the AP.
OPTIONAL
⢠DO NOT ALLOW THE AP TO JOIN THE WIRELESS LAN CONTROLLER.
⢠IF POSSIBLE, type the following commands:
ï¾ clear lwapp private-config (This will bring the AP to factory default.);
ï¾ clear lwapp ap ip address
ï¾ clear lwapp ap hostname
ï¾ clear lwapp ap controller ip address
4. Let the AP connect to the Wireless LAN controller.
OPTIONAL
If an AP refuses to join the Wireless LAN Controller, type the following command from the AP:
lwapp ap controller ip address
Hope this helps. -

Nokia E65 connected to a Aironet 1250
Hello, I have problems to connect my Nokia E65 to the new Cisco Aironet 1250 (draft N). I have tested the same cell phone with a 1121 and it works properly, but I can't associate it with the new AP. What can I do to check if the cell phone is compatible with 1250 AP series?
Thank you.Hi, I have configured properly the nokia E65 with WPA2-PSK + AES-CCMP and it works. Also I have configured some Nokia E51 and N95 and both are working well. But now I have another problems with the E65. When I try to transfer a call to the E65 the phone restarts automatically. It can make and receives call, but it cannot receive a transfer call. I have the updated to the last version and no changes. The E51 and N95 work perfectly and receive the call without any problem. Has anyone the same problem?
Thank you.
Best regards. -

Our Deployment Scenario:-
1941W Gigabit Ethernet 0/0 is connected to the PPOE connection of the ISP.
Gigabit Ethernet 0/1 is connected to the wired LAN
I have created 2 wireless radio Cisco_Kamran_BGN which is operating at 2.4 Ghz Devices and Cisco_Kamran_A which is operating at 5Ghz Devices.
I have created 2 VLans for the Wireless.
Vlan 10 for Cisco_Kamran_A 192.168.10.x
Vlan 11 for Cisco _Kamran_BGN 192.168.11.X
The problem is the Wireless users are not getting the IP address from the respective DHCP server which has been configured on the Router.
Can please any from the community help me and show me where I am missing the configuration.

Need configuration help on producing dial tone
Hello Experts,
I have a Cisco 2921 router with VWIC3-2MFT-T1/E1 card. On this card we have T1-CAS digital line connected. We have been provided with a set of DID numbers. We have a requirement where, when we dial a DID, the router should provide a dial tone, and should allow the user to dial to extension numbers. Not sure if this is feasible. If at all possible, will need to some configuration help.
Thanks
ArabindaSure it's possible. What's the T1 connected to? The router will offer two-stage dialing (aka dial tone) when the incoming POTS dial-peer does not have the 'direct-inward-dial' command on it. The router will accept any input and search for an outbound dial-peer (or ephone-dn for locally registered DNs) to match. Be careful if the T1 is connected to the PSTN as this is a toll fraud risk. You need to use CoR to reign in what outbound dial-peers are available to it.
