Aironet 1250 series broadcasting multiple SSID
After configuring the AP (hopefully it's correct), I have multiple devices such as phones, laptops, touchapds that detect the same SSID twice.
For example, my ssid is CISCOCONNECT
the device will detect two identical ssid however one is an open network and the other is secure with WEP.
1. CISCOCONNECT (Open)
2. CISCOCONNECT (WEP)
I associated CISCOCONNECT to a VLAN with WEP encryption. I can connect to CISCOCONNECT (WEP) fine on all devices. Not sure why there is a second CISCOCONNECT (OPEN) and how can I disable it? It shouldnt even exist.
I am new with CISCO equipment so I appologize if this was discussed in the past.

Hello,
I want to know if it is possible to broadcast multiple ssids in the beacon packet so that the client can choose one of them depending on his role.
We have a customer that wants to assign different ip ranges to users but without having to configure anything in the clients. I know it is possible to map vlans to ssids, but it is necessary to manually configure the ssid in the profile.
I know that with this requirement we can't use ssids and neither 802.1x to dynamically assign vlans to users, but does anybody know any way to accomplish this?

Roaming and 2.4 vs 5.0 on 1250 series AP design help
Hello,
I will be upfront and honest and state that although I am familiar with some wireless technologies, most of this stuff is a mystery to me. I have done some homework and have researched quite a bit, but have ind of hit a wall.
I have been handed four Aironet 1250 series AP's all with the dual radio modules (2.4 and 5.0). I really need to use only one of the modules so that we can power it via POE and not enchanced POE (long story).
So, I need help with a design. Here's what I'd like to see.
1. I would like to setup "roaming" so that when a wireless client goes from one AP to another it is seamless to the user and the users NIC will associate with the strongest AP signal. Can I do this by simply setting the same SSID and security on each AP, or must I have a controller to do this?
2. Also, I cannot seem to get older legacy clients to communicate with the 5.0 Ghz radio module (they can’t even see it) but they work fine when I switch it out for the 2.4. I know this is a very noob question, but can the older clients (non N) work on the 5.0 module)
I have looked through a ton of documentation but there doesn’t seem to be a configuration guide that I can find for what I need to do.
That’s it. Can someone please have mercy on me and point me in the right direction? I will be looking in the mean time but I have a lot of unknowns. I think if I can get the two questions answered above, then I can mark as resolved and run with it.

1. Yes, the conditions for a proper roaming are : same SSID, same security settings, and the APs serving the same client subnet (so that client doesn't have to change its ip address).
This is sufficient for data, Fast roaming is required for applications like voice and you can then look into using cckm as key mechanism and configure one AP to act as WDS to centralize the roaming keys.
2. This is not related. 11n is available on both 2.4 and 5 ghz band. The question is if your old adapters are capable of 802.11a or not. 11a is the 54Mbps speed in the 5ghz band. I would guess they are not capable of it.
Adapters that are on laptop now are often "abgn" meaning they can do N speeds on both 2.4 and 5ghz band. An adapter that would be "bg" or "bgn" would typically be restricted to only 2.4 Ghz.

Will the Cisco Aironet 1250 (802.11n) only require an Firmware upgrade after it has been approved for use and gets past draft 2.0? Im thinking of purchasing for testing but want to make sure that being that its in its early stages that the code will only need to be upgraded once the standards have been created.

Only one SSID broadcasted using multiple radios, multiple SSIDs.
This topic has been kicked around quite a bit, but I still can't find the answer. I have a Aironet 1200 with the internal 802.11b radio and an upgrade 802.11a radio. I've defined two SSID's, one for each radio. The status page shows both radios as up, but the 802.11b radio is the only one I can use. The upgrade radio doesn't broadcast the SSID, nor will it allow me to connect to it if I manually type in into my suplicant configuration. What's the trick to getting this to work? My 1200 is running IOS 12.3(7)JA2.

show controllers dottRadio 0 (maybe 1 too, depending on your interfaces setup.)
Multiple basic SSIDs are supported if the results include this line:
Number of supported simultaneous BSSID on radio_interface: 8
I may be wrong, but afaik the mbssid command is supported with version 12.3(4)JA or later.

I was just given this task to see how i can configure a second ssid for guest access in our environment.
this is our network setup prior to this request: Internet----Firewall (not ASA)---ce520---C1131AG and CME router is also connecting to the ce520 switch. we only have two vlans: one for voice and two for data.
Presently, there is no vlan configured on the AP because it on broadcasting ont ssid and wireless users gets IP from a windows DHCP server on the LAN. the configuration on the ce520 switch port for the AP and other switches say access vlan is the DATA vlan which automatically becomes the native vlan for all trunk port connecting the AP and other Stiches to the network.
Now with this new requirement, i have made my research and i have configured the AP to broadcast both the production and the guest Vlans. The two vlans are 20-DATA and 60-Guest. I made the DATA vlan on the AP the native vlan since the poe switch is using the DATA vlan as native on the trunk ports. I configured the firewall to serve as DHCP server for the guest ssid and i have added the ip helper-address on the guest vlan interface on all switches while the windows server remains the dhcp server for the production DATA Vlan. I have confirmed that the AP, switches can ping the default gateway of the guest dhcp server which is another interface on the firewall. I can now see and connect to all broadcasted ssids but the problem is I am not getting IP addresses from both the production dhcp server and guest dhcp server when i connected to the ssid one at a time.
My AP config is attached below.
Please tell me what am I doing wrong.
Do i need to redesign the whole network to have a native vlan other nthan the data vlan?
Does the access point need to be aware of the voice vlan?
Do the native Vlan on the AP need to be in Bridge-group 1 or can i leave it in bridge-group 20?

As far as i know we dont set the ip helper address on the radio interface. It should be on the L3 interface of corresposding VLANs i.e.

I'm assuming that your using SVI's (int Vlan 20 and int Vlan 60) rahter than physical interfaces. Also hope you have configured switch port as trunk where this AP is connected.
Modify the AP config as below since you are using data vlan as the native vlan

Setting up Multiple SSID's & VLAN
I have a Cisco 1230 AP along with a Sonic Wall TZ 210 and a Linksys SFE 2010P switch. On my AP I have created 2 SSID's. and 2 VLAN's. The first SSID is being broadcasted and has WPA encryption on it for our Corporate USers. The Second SSID is a Guest SSID and too is being broadcasted. I can make a laptop connect to the 1st SSID, but for some reason the 2nd SSID nothing will connect to it. The first SSID is associated to VLAN1 and the 2nd SSID is associated to VLAN2. VLAN1 has WPA encryption on it. VLAN2 is setup as Open and no Encryption. Any ideas?
My next question is how to I configure traffic on this AP with the other equipment mentioned? On my sonicwall we have segmented port6 on it to be a different subnet from the corporate subnet. On the Linksys switch I have enable VLANS on port2 and port48 which are on VLAN2. All other ports are on VLAN1. The AP connects to Ports 2 on the linksys switch and port 48 connects to port 6 on the Sonic Wall. When a corporate user connects to SSID1 I want them to be able to connect to the Corporate subnet. When a guest connects to SSID2 I want them to connect to the segmented guest network to only have Internet Access.
Hope this makes sense!

4 Aironet 1250's and a controller?
Hi guys,
I'm about to order a four Aironet 1250's and a 2106 Wireless LAN Controller. From what I've read, I'll need the controller to manage the APs if I want them all to offer the same broadcast domain and subnet, and offer roaming to the users. Often times what I read and understand turns out to have little to do with reality, so my question is, am I correct about this?

I have two buidlings acroos the street from each other. I have two Cisco Aironet 1250 wireless AP's with the first one going in the main building with network backbone. The Second AP goes across the street with the other wired network segment. Both AP's have long range antenas 2.4 GHZ on top of each building. I have configured the 1st one as the Root Bridge. The one across the street is configured as non-root bridge. I have both AP's configured with the same WEP key and also with the same SSID name with both set to broadcast it. I am still unsure and confused as to how I get the non-root bridge to talk to and use the root bridge to get on the main network.
1- It’s main to use the Root parent Mac address.
2- Is there another config that I am missing to get the signal?
Note: I still not getting any signal from the root although distance between root and non-root is 330m
My root antenna is AIR-ANT24120 and non-root antenna is AIR-ANT1949 and attached files is my configuration files

there is one tanker in the middle between them but it's far 7m from the earth
4. Is the two APs properly aligned?
i think yes and changed the aligned many times without any news (I don't have any tools for alignment)
5. Which point are the antennas connected to? Primary, Secondary or middle?
I tried in the primary and secondary but never tried the middle antenna

Aironet 1250 Configuration Help

I'm an vmware\linux system administrator with very low skills in networking, I just bought 3 Cisco Aironet 1250 2.4ghz + 5ghz for my testing network and I need help to configure them.
Scenario:
1 - I have 3 Cisco Aironet 1250
2 - I want to create 2 wifi networks, SSID guest (vlan 11) and SSID production (vlan 1) in 2.4ghz + 5ghz
2a- I want to configure security WPA2-PSK without RADIUS Server.
3 - Aironet 1250 # 1 is connected to ethernet vlan1 (production)
4 - Aironet 1250 # 2 is connected to ethernet vlan11 (guest)
5 - Aironet 1250 # 3 is connected to ethernet vlan1 (production)

Thanks a lot!Since each AP is connected via Ethernet, you don't need to set any as a repeater. Here are some links that show you what you need to have multiple SSID's and multiple vlans.

I have an interesting problem. I have an aironet 1250. For months my wireless clients has been connecting with no problems. One day there was a power failure, don't remember making any chnages which I should of saved. After, all of my equipment rebooted with no problems. Now I'm seeing my 802.11N clients having connectivity problems. After 10 to 40 mins I believe they get logout, but the client don't get updated to this. The G and the B no problems. Some are Intel chip sets and some are apples base computers.
Anyone seen this?

Wireless aironet 1250 agn latency issue
HI , i have cisco wirelss AIRONET 1250 a/g/n Series.
when user connect to this wifi n try to ping any local lan ip then their is ping delay & latency of 2000-3000 ms & packet drop also.

IPod Touch - WiFi - SSID Broadcast Works/SSID No Broadcast Doesn't Work
This is maddening in so many different ways:
I have two (2) 2nd Generation iPod Touch 8Gb products. Both are nearly identical in every way -- how they connect, OS, Library, similar Apps (but not the same all the time), etc.
iPod Touch "A" works flawlessly. No issues, no problems, no complaints
iPod Touch "B" started behaving badly by first loosing my WPA security but recognizing my home network. Strong password creation was a hassle but I got cleaver. Over time, it got worse to the point that it would not even recognize the existence of my 802.11g home network.
CAVEATS 1) We live in a rural area and on my property, not another network can be found. 2) Plenty of 2.4 Ghz stuff around including other wireless computers but... 3) This is my profession and I am flummoxed but have ideas....
FINDINGS: 1) iPod "B" works fine in the public space. All wireless networks work just fine and dandy. 2) I turn on my home network SSID BROADCAST and this iPod works fine (after being set up again). 3) Turn off SSID Broadcast and once this iPod sleeps or is turned off/on, no more network but go to any place that has a public broadcast SSID and no security and it's fine again... 4) No matter what I have and what I do, iPOD "A" works flawlessly.
WHAT I HAVE DONE: 1) made sure that I have plenty of DHCP scope -- yup. 2) Checked my leases - when connected I see perfectly valid MACs and leases without incident. 3) Check for overlapping or conflicts in IP Address allocation and MAC addresses (you never know...) - no problems there. 4) Quadruple checked "A" vs. "B" settings -- identical. 5) Dumped the entire flash and OS and started with a clean slate -- same issues with no apps, music, photos, movies -- nada... just a raw iPod like it came out of the box... same problem 6) Asked Apple to replace it as it's under warranty -- done. 7) Started testing again as a clean slate and found that it worked... replacing the iPod did the trick...
So, I "RESTORE" the iPOD to garner all the hard work that was put into it -- contacts, settings, etc. I "SYNCH" the iPOD to recover my angel's precious photos, apps, movies, music.... I return it back to it's originally desired state EXCEPT that one must completely reconfigure things like networking by hand -- OK.
It's back to normal, as desired, in the configuration we want and it WORKS!!!! Albeit... only for a day... and now we are back to where we started -- again...
iPod "A" works flawlessly and the new "B" is back to it's same old tricks --
OK - What does a restore do anyway? Is there some small pile of firmware that writes over the fresh load from OS? In order to preserve my contacts and other things a restore supports, did I uncover the super secret bug that Apple will refuse to acknowledge? Can I still say that I hate iTunes without being flamed a thousand deaths? Is there a diagnostic easter egg I can try?
And before I started this soliloquy -- I watched my functioning iPod "B" go to sleep with a working home network... only to wake her from her slumber... tuned out - with Not Connected living in her Wi-Fi field.... <sigh - simply maddening>
The only thing that sets these two apart are the nuances associated with configs that are part of the user's own personal interface desires and resident app input (contacts, calendar, etc...).

Just to be clear, as others have mentioned -- this is not a feature and we should not have to tolerate it. This iPod, like the other one and yours too, once worked flawlessly and then continued to degrade to a point of not functioning according the 802.11g ieee standard. Something that has been in development for over 10 years and has been an adopted standard in consumer electronics for more than 7 years -- an eternity in this industry.
To be clear, I performed TWO ultimate resets -- completely wiping the firmware and OS of the original hardware and tested a completely wiped iPod Touch to no avail and the second "reset" was a brand new replacement -- right out of the box -- under warranty. No network resets necessary. The new iPod worked as expected without any original data loaded. Once a backup was "restored," and the iPod was synch'd with the library of choice, then the troubles started again. The networking does not restore -- you have to build a secure network from scratch. And again, the "A" iPod exhibits none of this odd behavior.
It is a testament that Apple has a problem in code when other iPods running similar OS behave the same. The reason that I mention the geeky standard above is because we should not have to broadcast our SSID for this to work -- it's an open standard, not something proprietary. We should not have to conform to "work around" solutions. And, yes, NOT broadcasting SSID is part of the entire package of sound security. I have to strongly disagree with all the nay-sayers. You don't go walking around the streets with money hanging out of your pockets or your wallet sticking out of your shirt pocket for a reason -- but I bet that you have cash on you and I can find it pretty quickly. It's why purse snatching is a crime of violence and rampant in larger cities and pick-pockets use finesse. One is easy pickings for anyone to try and the other requires tools and skills. If you don't flaunt it, the low level threat is removed.
As for strong security, the option for WEP is not an option. I use multiple levels of acceptable stronger encryption, logging, limited DHCP scopes, MAC controls at times, stateful firewall controls, and other radio tricks of the trade. My only failings is having to pander to the lowest common denominator within my home network.
Anyway, I spent a bit more time surfing and find this problem ubiquitous in 2.2.1 and forward. Something is amiss at Apple. All my Window based products work just fine (as does my Wii).
