Aironet 1300 wireless Bridges connection loss, help!

Hi,
We have 2 Cisco Aironet 1300 wireless bridges with yaggi antennas.
The connection drops sometimes (every 2 or 3 days) and never comes up again.
When we reboot the non-root bridge the connection works again. We swapped the complete unit but still the same.
For logs see attached file.
What can be the problem? The antennas are not aligned correctly?
Thx in advance
greetings,
Marc

How long is the path and what were the results of the survey?
Were the connectors waterproofed?
Please describe the sytem from the bridge to the antenna including cable type, length, path, outdoors, indoors etc.

  • Aironet 350 Wireless Bridge Problem

I have inherited a wireless link between two building that used a pair of Aironet 350 wireless bridges.  I say used because one took a lightning strike and is fried.  I need to see the configuration on the remaining bridge to set up the new bridge but no one knows the user name or password to access the remaining functioning 350.  How do I reset this old buzzard?  I have tried all the instructions I have found on this site and others.  There is no reset button.  I found this out by disassembling another Aironet 350 we had which has also taken a strike.  I cannot set up the new 1300 without knowing the config of what it will be talking to.  I have been able to connect to the 350 with a serial cable and I can see some of the information.  But the only thing I get is the ip address for fe0.  I have attached the file I captured to this post.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.

If you know the IP of the 350, put a laptop on the same subnet and use a crossover cable to web to its GUI.  VxWorks CLI sucks!
If you can get hold of a pair of 1231 APs, they can be configured to run in bridge mode and use the same antennas as the 350s.  Benefits are IOS and G radios.

  • 1300 Wireless Bridge

I have been using two 1310 wireless bridges for about six months now. They have been working very well. However this morning they stoped connecting and one says that the Software status is disabled and the hardware status is down.
in the configuration the Radio is enabled and one is set to root the other to non-rooot. Nothing changed just stopped working. I even tried switching witch is root and Non-Root. The problem stays with the Non-Root.
    Thanks
    Phillip

Thanks Scott.  We can go as high as we need to clear the fresnel zone.  There is nothing but an empty parking lot in between the 2 building and about 1500 - 2000 feet of space but I have not done a site survey to see about the 2.4Ghz.  I think we are going to need different antennae as well correct?  I think the internal ones only go about 626 feet or so.  I was thinking about using AIR-ANT3338. your thoughts.
    Thanks in advance!

  • About Aironet 1300 Outdoor Bridge.

    Hi,
I have a question about Aironet 1300 series Outdoor Bridge.
in case of 1300 series, it is supporting with 802.11g protocol. BTW, I wanna use it with 802.11a protocol on Aironet 1310 series. Is it possible ?
If so, how to do I have to it ?
    I wait your good answer.
    Thanks.
    Best Regards.

    1310 only support 11b/g, not support 11a.
    1410 support 11a

  • Unstable Wireless Bridge Connection via 802.11a(Radio 1) of Aironet 1242

    Hi,
I'm going to setup up an AP 1242 in a remote area to support b/g client via a 802.11a bridge link (all using AP 1242).
Before the deployment, I tested the configuration in a lab environment. However, I found the bridge link will come up a while and suddenly gone. Resetting the root AP or the non-root AP cannot bring the connection up again. Sometimes, when I shutdown the b/g radio (radio 0) of the remote AP, the bridge link will be established again. Following is the log from the root AP.
    Thanks!

Thanks dmantill for reminding me to revisit the antenna and related stuff.
As the setup is in a lab environment, the APs are put on a work bench next to each other, therefore, the radio output power was lowered.
After adjusting the output powers, it works as expected.
    Thanks Surendra and dmantill.

  • Wireless Bridge Connection

I have (2) 1300 access point that are connected for point to point access.
I have a data network VLAN 10 and Cisco IP Phone VLAN 20. The computer is plugged into the phone and the phone is plugged into port injector. The root-bridge is plugged into a 6500 switch. The port was configured
    sw access vlan 10
    sw mode access
    sw voice 20
    spanning-tree portfast
The problem is I can only access VLAN 10, the phone just goes into configuration mode and VLAN search. I have brought the phone back to the main location and the phone connects. I was able to connect the phone before but I dont think it was setup right. I am thinking that the switch port should be a sw mode trunk.
I think I need a better VLAN setup on the root and non-root bridge so that it works properly. I also am unable to talk to the native VLAN 1 and connect to the bridges from the network.
Can someone help and explain a it little. I have read some of the documentation, but it looks like I will need to make more ssid for each VLAN. Is that right?
    Here is the basic config.

This is my current config. The NonRoot is the same except for station-role non-root bridge.
Besides the switch at HQ and the branch office being setup for trunks.

Is there anything else that needs added?
Also the only Wireless devices that are connecting are the root bridge at HQ and non-root at Branch office. The other devices will connect to a switch at the other end. This is only a trunk so that I can remove the T-1 at the location.

  • Pismo G3 P/Book wireless internet connection information & help PLEASE!

    UK Based.
My newly obtained G3 PB is running OSX 10.3.9 and has a Dell TrueMobile 1300. 802.11b/g PC Card.
The card, I understand will allow me to connect to the internet wirelessly but how can I do it please.
    As always, thanks in advance!

    Ian,
Yes, connect via Ethernet if possible, then launch your onboard Software Update. There may be many updates listed for your machine, but you are interested in the ones for AirPort. If you have never run Software Update, there will also be Security Updates plus updates to many Mac applications. The last thing you want to do is to allow all the updates to be downloaded and installed automatically...this can sometimes lead to problems.
This would be my suggestion for updating even for just the two AirPort additions:
    1. Launch Disk Utility in the Utilities folder, select your HD in the left column, then run Repair Disk Permissions and Check Disk. If Check Disk reports errors, you will have to boot to another volume like your 10.3.x Cd to make repairs, or you can restart into Safe Boot (hold down shift key at startup chime, release when you see the spinning gear). Safe Boot runs a disk repair during startup and may be able to make repairs; now run Disk Utility's Check Disk again.
    2. If the HD is OK, restart normally so all software loads; do not launch any apps other than Software Update; uncheck all listed items except the two AirPort updates; click the box to download and install. When completed, if you are required to restart, do so.
    3. Disconnect your Ethernet cable, install your WiFi card, then go to Mac Help in the menu bar and enter 'airport', then look for connecting to the Internet with AirPort.
Regarding other updates: Install the Security Updates one at a time; if you do not use apps for which there are updates, don't bother unless you feel the need to have them.

  • Need wireless bridge + NAT.. help?

I have a wired device that I want to bridge to our network using our existing wireless network (wireless G).  Unfortunately, this device is stuck for the time being using a 192.168.0 address while the rest of our network uses 192.168.4. So, we need to NAT that 192.168.0 address to a 192.168.4 address.
Is there a Linksys device that can do this?
The ultimate goal is to allow connection to this device from a system on the Internet.  I would forward a port in our Internet router/firewall  to the NATed address of the wired device in question.

It will not work this way and no linksys device have this feature. The only option is to convert your whole network to 192.168.0.X  range.

  • Ping - Telnet Not Traversing Aironet C1310 Wireless Bridge

    aironet root-bridge <----> aironet non-root-bridge10.80.254.3/28 <----> 10.80.254.4/28
The bridges are associated and devices (pc, voip, printer) on the non-root side can access the network on the root side.
I can ping and telnet to devices on the same side of each bridge, but not accross the bridges.
This is probabably a simple fix, but I'm really stumped and would greatly appreciate the input.

  • Image Recovery for Cisco Aironet 1300 Outdoor Access Point

We purchased two 1300 APs for outside. There is a new release for the image that we wanted to use so, we have the latest security updates. We downloaded, logged onto the access point just fine, but the image never took. After four hours with a direct connection, it was still going and this morning we came in and it just keep rebooting. Our network guy states it looks like a corrupt image. We can barely do anything and since there is no "mode" button like the earlier models, I have not found anything on web sites or forums to help us reload a good image to the access point. I would appreciate any insight someone has and/or where to look for this. I logged on and downloaded about every manual on the 1300 I could find, but have not found a good way to fix this. Not even the upgrade tool will connect since it just keeps rebooting.

    Hi Bruce,
    Because (as you correctly noted) the 1300 does not have a mode button you could try this method;
Complete the steps in this section in order to reset Cisco IOS Software-based bridges:
If the privileged command prompt ap# is available in the CLI, the write erase command and the reload command erase the startup configuration and reset the unit.
If the GUI is available, choose System Software > System Configuration. Press the Reset to Defaults button.
Aironet 1300 Series Bridges do not have a MODE button to reset the AP to factory defaults. So, if neither the GUI or CLI is available with sufficient privileges, complete these steps to delete the current configuration and return the entire bridge settings to the factory defaults using the CLI.
Open the CLI with a Telnet session or a connection to the bridge console port.
Reboot the bridge by removing and reapplying power.
Allow the bridge to boot until the command prompt appears and the bridge begins to inflate the image.
Press ESC when you see lines that are similar to these on the CLI:
    Loading "flash:/c1310-k9kw-7mx.v122_15_ja.200040314-k9w7-mx.v122_15_ja.20040314"
...#############################################################################Note: In order to access the boot loader, you must press ESC twice. But this action depends on the terminal-emulation software that you use.
Messages that are similar to these appear:
    Error loading "flash:/c1310-k9kw-7mx.v122_15_ja.200040314-k9w7-mx.v122_15_
    ja.20040314"
Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort boot process.
    Boot process terminated.
The system is unable to boot automatically. The BOOT environment variable needs to
be set to a bootable image.

Are you sure you want to delete "flash:/env_vars" (y/n)?y
File "flash:/env_vars" deletedIssue the boot command in order to reboot the bridge at the bridge: prompt, or simply power cycle the bridge.
After the bridge reboots, reconfigure the bridge with the web browser interface, the Telnet interface, or Cisco IOS Software commands.
Note: The bridge is configured with the factory default values that include:
The IP address, which is set to receive an IP address with DHCP. If you do not have a DHCP server, you can access the bridge using the default IP address of 10.0.0.1 using HTTP/HTTPS or Telnet. Once you gain access to the bridge via Telnet or GUI, you can modify the IP address of the bridge.
Note: This default IP address of 10.0.0.1 becomes available only for a short period. So, make sure that you assign your own IP address to the bridge within that period of time.
The default username and password, "Cisco".

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_password_recovery09186a00800949d0.shtml#ca_1310_ser
One other thing, be careful with the new IOS that you aren't loading a LWAPP Recovery Image. (it almost sounds like what may have happened)
    Hope this helps!

  • Aironet 1300 radio keeps on shutting down

    Hi,
I have a problem with the wireless bridge connection using aironet 1300. It work fine before.no changes were done. The problem is that the radio keeps on shutting down.in the web interface radio is enabled but down. i have to manually diable it then enable it back to resolve the issue. Problem is random and this is happening on both aironet. Below is the log.
    on the first aironet:

Verify that when the radio interface is shutdown, the workstations can connect to the server immediately. Also ping from the AP to server and workstations to verify if there is any difference seen to the results seen prior to the radio interface being shut down.

  • Multipmultiple Airport Extreme Base Stations: WDS Or "Extend Wireless Network" To Have Wired -- Wireless Bridge?

    Hello there!
I've been looking for this info, but have as yet been unable to find it. Here's my scenario:
I have two Airport Extreme Base Stations (both are dual band) and 3 airport expresses. The main internet connection in my house is in one room, where I have an AEBS as the main wireless router. In another room, I have a bunch of ethernet-only devices. I'd like to use the 2nd AEBS in this room, plug the ethernet devices into it and have the 2nd AEBS act as a wired <--> wireless bridge (connected to the same wireless network as the 1st AEBS). I've attempted this via "extend a wireless network," but the ethernet devices don't get past the AEBS they're plugged into. Should I instead be implementing WDS?
I mention the airport expresses as I'd like to have airtunes & wireless signal in other areas, but would like to keep the set-up as simple as possible (i.e., not config the AXes for WDS unless it's required).
Thanks in advance for any help!

Unlike the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn), the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) cannot be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge.
However, there are at least two ways to configure it to provide wired clients access:
Connect the second AEBSn back to the first by Ethernet; reconfigure the second AEBSn as a bridge and disable its wireless radios, or
Reconfigure both AEBSns into an extended wireless network. For 802.11n AirPorts, this would be called a dynamic WDS. The AEBSn, connected to the Internet would be the "main" base station and it would only require that you enable the "Allow this network to be extended" option in the AirPort Utility. The extending AEBSn would need to be configured with the option, Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network, enabled.
In both configurations, the second AEBSn's Ethernet ports would be enabled for wired clients.

  • Non-root wireless bridge speed issue

I have a wireless bridge connecting two buildings, using Cisco Aironet 1262's. The root Bridge allows for bonding 2 channels on the A radios and talks at 40MHz, the non-root does not alloow me to do this configuration in the gui, and the band width is only 20MHz. So one side of my bridge will talk at a higher rate then the other end. Any ideas, suggestions??

So here is the thing. Just remember that wireless is half duplex so if your connecting at 54mbps, your max throughput would be half of that so around 22.5mbps which you are seeing. Now if you wanted to maybe connect at 802.11n rates (might or might not) make sure you are using either open authentication or WPA2/AES. These are supported in the 802.11n standard.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/ios/release/notes/12_4_25d._JArn.html#wp291685
802.11n HT Rates Apply Only to No Encryption or WPA2/AES Encryption
The 802.11n HT rates apply only to no encryption or WPA2/AES encryption. They do not apply to WEP or WPA encryption. If WEP or TKIP encryption is used, the 1250 series access points and any 802.11n Draft 2.0 clients will not transmit at the HT rates. Legacy rates (802.11a/b/g) will be used for any clients using WEP or TKIP encryption

  • "Restart Now" IOS command for 1310 Wireless Bridge

I have 2 Cisco Aironet 1310 wireless bridges setup, line-of-sight, 3/4 mile apart, one as Root, the other as Non-Root.  Occasionally they drop their connection but a hard restart of either or both bridges will reestablish the connection.  What is the equivalent IOS command to the
"GUI > System Software > System Configuration > Restart Now" command?  I would like to be able to telnet to either/both units and issue/script the appropriate command.

    the command is "reload"
