Aironet 1400 Ethernet

Hello all,
Help please!
The led "uplink activity" in the cisco aironet 1400 -power injector lr- is off. I have checked coaxial and connectors, they are ok. I can not access the bridge by ethernet or telnet. I have reseted the bridge also, but the signal keep off. Is it a software/hardware problem?
Thanks

If you trun the AP backwards, what lights do you see. There are three lights down at the bottom and there is a sequence in which they blink. Please keep an eye on the blinking LED's.

I had the same problem and I upgraded the IOS on the bridges to the latest one and that did the trick. If it doesnot then its a hardware replacement.

  • Aironet 1400 Point to Multipoint Bridging

    Hello Everybody
I`m already desinging a Wireless Point to Multipoint Bridging with Aironet 1400. I was Wondering if on the Central point the 1400 should has a external omnidireccional anntena to support all the others bridges... that is: this AP will be the multipoint bridge.
Could I use all the 1400 AP with integrated anntenas and get that the Central AP work in a multipoint configuration?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Cisco Aironet 1400 has a model with integrated 22.5 dBi patch array antenna, the AIR-BR1410A-A-K9.
The integrated radio and high-gain integrated patch array antenna is used in point-to-point links and the non-root nodes of point-to-multipoint networks.
You can (need to) use the external omnidirectional AIR-ANT58G9VOA-N antenna type for your N-type root bridge unit (AIR-BR1410A-A-K9-N).
Basically, these models are ideal for each other in both point-to-point & point-to-multipoint connectivity scenarios.
Cisco 1400 N-type is recommended to use the following external antenna type:
    * 9.0 dBi vertically polarized omni antenna --> you need this
    * 9.5 dBi sector antenna with support for vertical or horizontal linear polarization
    * 28.0 dBi dish antenna with support for vertical or horizontal linear polarization

  • Aironet 1400 Security

I have users offsite connected to the main network via Aironet 1400s. In the past we have used port security statements on a 2950 to allow only specific Mac addresses on the link.
I have had to setup a second vlan at this remote location and as a result I have trunked the port, which prevents me from using port security statements.
I thought about using a RADIUS server, but after doing some reading it looks like it will only authenticate the non-root bridge, not the clients connected to it.
I considered using access lists but I want to be able to log any denials/security violations, and this is not an option when using extended (700) access lists.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can configure the AP to authenticate the users,

  • Aironet 1300 Ethernet seems down

    Hi,
We've installed an Aironet 1300 (with external antenna) at the top of an 80 foot mast. Before installation we configured it with a static IP, setup its SSID etc etc. We also tested connecting to another WAP etc. All setup was done using its web interface.
However we cannot access it using the ethernet port on the power injector. If I connect using the console port I can see that it is running, however during initialization it says that it can't bring up the FastEthernet port.
If I do 'show ip interface brief' then it lists the IP address against BVI, but says the ethernet port is down. We've tried a different power injector with the same result.
Does anyone have any idea what we're doing wrong? We've had no similar problems with the other 20+ Aironet's we've installed.
    Thanks
    Richard Cronin

    Hi Richard,
What I have observed is that if nothing is connected on the ethernet interface, while initializing it always throws this error.
As you mentioned that the you are not able to access the bridge ethernet connection is down and this seems to be the reason why you are getting this error.
Now coming to the point please crosscheck if the connection is done as -
    1. Plug a Category-5 Ethernet cable into the port on the power injector labeled 10/100Base Tx to Device.
    2. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet Port on the access point or bridge.
    3. Plug a Category-5 Ethernet cable into the port on the power injector labeled 10/100 Base Tx to Network.
    4. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your 10/100 Ethernet switch, hub, or network.
    5. Connect a suitable 48-VDC power source to the power receptacle labeled DC48V
I am sure that you must have done the connectivity as above but just to cross check. Just cjeck for TX to device/network
Also note that the overall span can not be more than 200mts. 100 per segment.

  • Aironet 1400 Interference?

I have an Aironet 1410 which has been online for the past 3-4 months with no problems at all. The other day we noticed these messages coming through (I have removed mac addresses and host names).
16 Jul 1 11:42:22 Warning Packet to client HHHH.HHHH.HHHH reached max retries, removing the client
    16 Jul 1 11:42:21 Information Interface Dot11Radio0, Station <wireless-bridge> HHHH.HHHH.HHHH Reassociated KEY_MGMT[NONE]
16 Jul 1 11:42:08 Information Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station HHHH.HHHH.HHHH Reason: Previous authentication no longer valid
16 Jul 1 11:42:08 Warning Packet to client HHHH.HHHH.HHHH reached max retries, removing the client
This message then keeps repeating, and the link is almost unusable with regular timeouts to users and access to the remote 1410's web interface. Yesterday the messages stopped and the link is now as stable as it was before. Is this is an interference problem and is there anything I can do about it? I tried rebooting both devices and they switched to a different frequency (they are set to Least Congested Frequency) but this made no difference.

The message indicates that AP has failed to reach associated workstation over radio and therefore it (AP) deassociates workstation. The reason for this, apparenly, is reachability of workstation over Radio. Can you make sure that your workstation is in the good area of signal strength and quality? Also make sure that there's no nearby AP which has overlaping adjacent channels with the AP in the questions.

  • Cisco Aironet 1400 - security

    Dear all,
I'm currently configuring 2 Cisco 1400 Bridges. One is the root bridge the other the non-root bridge (ok logic :-) ).
I wanted to know what is possible for using certificates for the non-root bridge or to use the local radius on the root bridge to increase the security level of the wlan network.
I tried to reach the local radius on the root bridge, but I'm always getting a 404 error. After reading some Cisco docs, it said that we need to use AAA new model from the CLI, I did it without success.
What would you recommend to ensure a good security level for the wireless link?
I'm open to use certificates or a Radius (local or IAS) or any suggestions you may have.
Any help or or suggestions are very welcomed...
    Thanks per advance,
    Regards

The only EAP types supported by BR1410 is LEAP. You should able to configure LEAP client on the non-root bridge:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.2_15_JA/configuration/guide/s15rep.html#wp1036921
The above URL is for repeater; however, it is the same for non-root bridge.
You may already know. If you want to set up local radius server, the following URL should be useful:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.2_15_JA/configuration/guide/s15local.html

  • Aironet 1400 Bridge with IAS

    Hi,
If the 1400 root bridge is configured for EAP, what are the options for EAP authentication methods to be configured on a Microsoft IAS radius server in order to authenticate the 1400 non-root bridge?
LEAP is out since it is not supported on IAS, so what are the available options other than using static WEP keys?
    Thanks

    According to
    http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cmvp/documents/140-1/140val-all.htm  (701)
the 1410 is not on the list.  Now this could be because the 1410 is EOL.

  • Aironet 1242AG Ethernet error

    Hi
Im having an issue with my 1242AG AP that i cant seem to find a solution for.
I was working away configuring RADIUS and it decided to reboot itself, strange enough but then once it started to reload i got the following:
    Reset ethernet port 0...
then nothing. The status lights are:
    Ethernet - RED
    Radio - OFF
Status - Light Blue (near white?)
Ive checked the LED documentation and it say that its an Ethernet error.
My problem is that this is the 2nd one in as many days that has done this and i dont know how to get it going again.
Ive done the manual reset (as per manual)and it just sits there doing nothing aswell, always displays the flashfs[0] text then the reset ethernet port 0... then no further.
Other posts seem to get to the ap> prompt at least to be able to do some sort of config.
Anybody know of anything to get this going??
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Rob

    Hi Steven
Thanks for your reply, the ethernet interface is down, when i connect a cross over cable (tried straight through too)from my laptop to the AP, my laptop says thats its interface is down, so that means that the AP interface is also down as there are no status lights at all and the lappy cant see anything at the far end.
Ive tried the manual reset (holding MODE for 30 sec while powering on, it takes the status light to pink and the radio light to red but still the same, nothing happens except the:
flashfs[0] checks then the RESET ETHERNET PORT 0....
It never comes back saying its reset the interface like most other errors ive found on the forum.
This is the 2nd one thats done this while ive been configuring it? I cant believe that a configuration statement will kill the AP like this?

  • Encrypting Aironet 1410 bridge link using multiple VLANs

I've looked at the documentation available for Aironet 1400 series, and still would like to see a single document showing an example of
the best encryption/authentication available for bridge links using multiple VLANs.
As I understand it, 1400 series can support WPA-PSK using AES, which would work for me.  I just can't picture how to integrate chapters 9 and 10 for the 'WEP and WEP Features' + 'Configuring Authentication Types' instructions.
I'm looking either for an example config, or a step-by-step that did all steps consecutively.
    Thanks

What doc are you refering to?  If you want to encrypt the link from root bridge to non-root bridge, then WPA/TKIP-PSK is what you should use.  Here is a link to how to setup your link ssid to WPA: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/bridge/1400/12.2_15_JA/configuration/guide/p15auth.html#wp1044935
Don't worry about the example they show on the WEP, just use the configuration from the above link for your encryption.
    Configuring a VLAN
Configuring your bridge to support VLANs is a five-step process:
    1. Create subinterfaces on the radio and Ethernet interfaces.
    2. Enable 802.1q encapsulation on the subinterfaces and assign one subinterface as the native VLAN.
    3. Assign a bridge group to each VLAN.
    4. (Optional) Enable WEP on the native VLAN. <-- Use WPA-PSK
    5. Assign the bridge's SSID to the native VLAN.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/bridge/1400/12.2_15_JA/configuration/guide/p15vlan.html
Here is an example of vlan 1 (native) will be your management and your wireless link.  vlan 10 & 20 will pass through the link.
