Aironet 1500 & 1300

Hi,
Q1.I think it is Mandatory to order antennas for Cisco aironet 1310 with RP-TNC type connectors, right?
Q.2 The Aironet 1310 with integrated antenna is not a good solution to be installed out of the building for mobile wi-fi users, right?
Q3. Aironet 1310 can be installed out of the building? i.e: for weather conditions.
Q4. Is it Mandatory to order an antennas for Cisco Aironet 1500 series? or can be installed without an antenna?
Q5. i think we can order one antenna 2.4GHz for any aironet device, not Mandatory to order two antennas?
Thanks in advance

Hi a.hajhamad,

Access Point
Engineered specifically for harsh outdoor environments, yet also capable in indoor deployments, the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series is ideal for wireless LANs (WLANs) requiring external access points. The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series is WiFi-certified as an access point and also supports the innovative features available with Cisco Aironet and Cisco Compatible client devices.
• Wide operating temperature range of -22°F to 131°F (-30° to +55°C)
• Meets NEMA 4 and IP56 specifications for harsh environments
• Captured antenna for easy mounting and support for external antennas including existing Cisco Aironet 2.4-GHz antennas
The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series provides the 802.11g interface for access-point capability or bridge connections. By placing the unit outdoors, close to the antenna, you can minimize the wireless cable losses-thereby maximizing the range of the network. The unit is available with either an integrated antenna, or with connectors for external antennas (Figure 4). The high-gain integrated antenna is designed for easy installations of point-to-point links or non-root nodes of point-to-multipoint networks. The nonintegrated antenna version provides professional installers with an RP-TNC connector that allows the deployment of omni-directional, sector, or high-gain dish antennas for specific application requirements.

  • Antenna`s cable for Aironet 1500

    I will like to put the 802.11 b/g antenna (for clients) in a separate way from the Aironet. I know that the antenna AIR-ANT2455V-N has "N" type connectors. Is there a antenna`s cable for this application? is it possible to do that? My scenario is a Aironet 1500 over the roof of the buildings but the roof is a reflective material... that is the reason to I will like to place the antenna under the roof.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    You can use any of the 50 Ohm impedance RF coaxial cables. RG-58, RG-8 or Heliax cables.
    However, the losses because of the cable attenuation are critical. Since the antenna you have selected has only 5 dBi, this is even more important.
    To avoid high loses, one must use fatter and higher grade coaxial cable. The RG-58 and it's low loss derivates (LMR195) are used for pigtails. For more than few foots the RG-8 and it's derivates (LMR400) is the next option. For over 50-100 foot's there is a need for very thick heliax cables.
    There are special "N" connectors for those types of 50 Ohm RF coaxial cables. Since the connectors produce attenuation too, they should be of high quality and professionally installed.
    However: those distances are appropiate for high gain antennas. An 5 dBi antenna shouldn't have a large cable.
    Another way to solve the attenuation problem, is by using an amplifier. The amplifier is connected to the antena, so the cable extension stops being a factor and can be raisonably large (at least 150 foot for high grade RG-8 cable).
    Best Regards,
    Igor Sotelo.

  • Aironet 1500 series point to point connection

    Hello, I have a question for cisco Aironet 1500 series. I want to connect two of them as point to point in a distance about 6 km (kilometers). So there are two questions, can them be connected as point to point to transmit signal and the second one what is the max distance of AP to be connected.
    Kind regards,
    Ardit

    There are a lot of factors when it comes to an outdoor bridge connection. What kind of traffic is going to pass over that link? How much bandwidth do you need? Is there an free line of sight and can you place the (high gain) external antennas somewhere high or maybe even in an tower? And what about the factors you can't influence like the weather?
    I personally don't have experience with this kind of high distances, but if you are going to do an test I would advise to go for the 1570 bridges and select an high gain antenna. A good starting-point for outdoor point-to-point connections is Cisco's WNG Coverage Capacity Calculator. You can also use tis tool to calcuate your Effective Isotropic Radiated Power, which should not exceed the rules dictated by your regulatory domain.

  • Test equipment needed to measure the RF power from an Aironet 1500 AP

    Is there a piece of test equipment I can use to measure the RF Power from an Aironet 1500 AP? I need to determine if people in a building are working far enough away from an existing Aironet 1500 AP unit. Many thanks,  Chris.

    Fluke Network's Airmagnet Spectrum Analyzer is second to none.

  • Recommendation for users concurrent on Aironet 1500 y 1200

        Hi,
    I'd like to know if there is any recommendation or technical limitation about  max. concurrent users (logged users) on AP aironet 1200 and 1500.
    Thanks in advance

    It's a number that is given because people want numbers.
    It all depends on the traffic the clients are sending.
    On the optimistic side, you can have a cafetaria with 150 people coming for lunch and everyone having a wireless ip phone at the belt. however those phones are not on active call and constantly in sleeping mode. That has been seen working (not by me though).
    However, for clients with a real usage of the network, 20 is a decent number. But it's not a sharp transition. Performance will suck already at 19 clients :-)
    Just consider that you are having 54Mbps theoretical bandwidth which translates into 20Mbps of real bandwitdh when all goes well.
    So divide 20Mbps by 20 and you have 1Mbps per client. However, 20 clients means collisions too and that is the main concern. So with 20 clients, the noticed throughput will be around 128/256Kbps maybe ?
    It depends on a lot of factors. But I hope it gives you an idea.

  • Cisco Aironet 1510

    On the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series Lightweight Outdoor Mesh Access Point spec sheet from the Cisco.com website, it states that the input power for the DC inline POE is 28.5 W at 48 VDC, nominal. What is the maximum power at 48 VDC? On AC, the nominal power is 57.8W at 120 VAC. What is the maximum power at 120 VAC?
    Also, I see that the Cisco 1510 only uses AC as a source. Does Cisco have a device for the Cisco Aironet 1510 that uses DC as a source? For example, instead of using the POE Injector that Cisco has, which uses an input of 120VAC (1.5A) and outputs 48VDC (1.2A), does Cisco have a POE Injector that uses an input of 12VDC and outputs 48VDC (1.2A).

    I think the maximum draw (with both radios and heater on) is 57.8 Watts, but with the heater not active it's much lower around 36.84 Watts.

  • Seeking advice for Wireless LAN solution

    I have a site that has a pipeyard in which I am considering covering with Wireless LAN. The transport vehicles that roam the pipeyard have terminals which currently use cellular cards & VPN to connect to an app server that is updated with stock that they move. The server is actually in an office adjacent to the pipeyard. The cellular coverage is poor and the connection drops are frustrating to the operators. For this reason, I am considering covering the area with Wireless LAN and replacing their cellular cards with 802.11a/b/g radios. The pipeyard has no obstructions. The area is outdoors and is about 122 acres in size.
    Does anyone have suggestions about what Cisco solution could be applied to this pipeyard so that the mobile operators can maintain continuous connection to their server as they move about the yard?

    For starters, you'll need to use mesh access points. You have the following choices:
    Cisco Aironet 1520 Series Lightweight Outdoor Access Points

  • Cisco 2500 WLC with LAP1041N

    hello there,
    we are trying to set up mesh network using 2500 controller and 1041n controller based AP.
    Can someone tell me if the AP will support mesh network?
    Can 1041N be set as root AP? Do i need 1300 series AP?

    Can someone tell me if the AP will support mesh network?
    Yes.   Mesh networking employs Cisco Aironet 1500 Series outdoor mesh access points and indoor mesh access points (Cisco Aironet 1040, 1130, 1140, 1240, 1250, 1260, 3500e, and 3500i series access points) along with the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller, and Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) to provide scalable, central management, and mobility between indoor and outdoor deployments. Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) protocol manages the connection of mesh access points to the network.

  • 350 bridge

    I've got got 1500's deployed with a controller. What I need is bridge set-up over at a construction sight with a camera. I have a left over 350 bridge and repeater. So far I have not been able to get them to attach to the 1500. They will attach to a 1200 with noproblem.
    I've entered the Mc in the controller, in same sub-net, and checked the encryption.
    Looked around for info on this, but time is short as always.

    Hi Thomas,
    I think that you are running into the following;
    Q. Are the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series Mesh APs interoperable with other Cisco Aironet APs? What are the Cisco devices that are compatible with mesh APs?
    A. No. The Cisco Aironet 1500 Series is Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP)-based and does not interoperate with Cisco IOS Software-based Cisco Aironet Wireless Bridges or APs that exist. However, it does interoperate with all LWAPP-based APs and WLAN controllers.
    From this good Q&A doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_qanda_item09186a0080094d01.shtml#aps
    Q. Is the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series compatible with the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series and Cisco Aironet 1300 Series?
    A. The Cisco Aironet 1500 Series is LWAPP-based and will not interoperate with autonomous Cisco Aironet wireless bridges or access points such as the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series and the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series in autonomous mode. In addition, it will not bridge to the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series in lightweight mode because in lightweight mode, the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series operates only as an access point (and not a bridge). The Cisco Aironet 1500 Series will, however, co-exist in the same WLAN as a Cisco Aironet 1300 Series in lightweight mode (for example, within the same wireless LAN controller or across multiple controllers within the same mobility group), allowing a wireless client to roam seamlessly between the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series and 1300 Series Access Points.

  • WEP and the 1522

    Can the the ap1522 work with legacy wgb350s using 64 or 128 bit WEP or no encryption at all.

    Hi Gordon,
    This will not work due to the fact that the 1522 is LWAPP and the 350 is Autonomous;
The Cisco Aironet 1500 Series will, however, co-exist in the same WLAN as a Cisco Aironet 1300 Series in lightweight mode (for example, within the same wireless LAN controller or across multiple controllers within the same mobility group), allowing a wireless client to roam seamlessly between the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series on the outdoor network and 1300 Series Access Points on the indoor network.
    Cisco IOS Software-based APs (autonomous APs) that are configured as WGBs associate only with Cisco IOS Software-based APs. They cannot associate with Lightweight AP Protocol (LWAPP)-based APs. Cisco APs that are converted to lightweight mode also do not support WGB associations. This is because LWAPP devices cannot communicate with non-LWAPP devices at all.

  • Type of cable quest

    what kind of cable do I need to connect my home theater to my Audigy 2 ZS using the digital out? I tried with a Red & White RCA to Stereo jack and it didn't work, I used only one (red or white) to connect it to the hometheater in "digital in". Any help would be appreciated

    Hi Prasanna,
    The cable that was quoted appears to be Indoor cable :( The word "Riser" indicates this fact. Here is what Cisco recommends;
    Ethernet Cable
    The Cisco Aironet 1500 Series Outdoor Ethernet Cable is used to connect the access point to the network when a network connection is available, such as when the access point is installed on the roof of a building. The Ethernet cable plugs into the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series Power Injector. Table 4 shows the part number for the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series Outdoor Ethernet Cable.

  • Combination of rownum and order by in where

    Hi friends
    This is the simple query pl. have a look.
    SQL> select distinct sal from emp
    2 order by sal desc;
    SAL
    5000
    3000
    2975

    950
    SAL
    800
    500
    200
    14 rows selected.
    Now I want to list only top 5 salaries from this with sql statement
    like
    5000
    3000
    2975
    2850
    2450

    This feature is available from oracle's 8.1.5 onwards
    Example with an Inline View
    Suppose we have a table emp which contains empname and sal. then using Inline View we can write sql like this:
    SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM emp ORDER BY sal DESC)
    WHERE ROWNUM < 5;
    here u will get the top 4 salaries.if u want to avoid same sal then use distict also.If u want 2nd maxima then put rownum=2;
    I think u r tried with oracle 8.0 or below versions.test with oracle 8i or above.Then u will get the result.
