Aironet 1552E with 8-dBi Directional Antenna AIR-ANT2588P3M-N

Hello everyone,
Im building a local wireless network and im going to use the Aironet 1552E outdoor cisco access point, with 2 patch-directional Antenna 8dBi (AIR-ANT2588P3M-N) at 2,4 GHz.
The problem im facing is that i have to cover a specific area with really thick walls (about 80cm cement and stone made). That obviously decreases my signal a lot. (i currently use an indoor cisco aironet 1130 (2dBi) and its really hard for it to have more than 3-4 signal bars inside the room).
So i would like to know, how can i calculate the distance that the new access point with the patch antenna's going to cover?
Or where can i find any specifications about the stength of the signal and the coverage area in real enviroment?
Thanks in advance for your answers and comments,
Periklis

Dear Scott,
I understand what you say, so to make it easier for you to provide me with a “possible” answer, I will inform you about the situation. And I hope that you will be able to help me.
We have already placed a local wireless network using the 1130AG cisco Access points. That Cisco as you know has a 2dBi omnidirectional internal antenna.  We placed them outside of the buildings, inside of electrological boxes to protect them from the environmental changes.  The walls that the signal has to penetrate are about 80cm of cement and stone. (pretty thick walls…)
Still, their signal differs (for ipad’s and smartphones) to 2-1  and laptops 4-5. Pretty good for an indoor AP placed outside of the buildings!
In order to increase our signal to the maximum that we can, we decided to change the 1130AG’s with 1532 E or 1552 E  AP’s.  And combine them with the 2,4GHz external 8dBi directional PATCH antennas.
After thinking about a way to provide better signal of wireless to our customers, we decided that  increasing the signals power from 2dBi to 8dBi as well as changing the antenna’s from omnidirectional to patch directional , we will be able to achieve better penetration of the signal inside the buildings.
What im questioning you is, IF that thought of ours has a logic and that IF is gonna work with the current situation.
Also, I would like to know since we will propably go for this method, in which high and distance from the 1st building it should be for better coverage?
Hope to hear from you soon, since I really need an expert’s help on this task.
Thank you

  • Does the 1200 aironet come with an antenna?

does the 1200 aironet come with an antenna?

You can indeed. However the keep in my that the antenna needs to have the proper connector RP-TNC.. And also keep in mind the 7 dbi is a stong antenna. At full ap power you will be blasting just over 400mW..

  • Directional antennas outdoor

    Hi
I am expanding coverage in a big outdoor area.
Most of the area is covered with AP1552 with AIR-ANT2506 5,2 db antennas.
At the border of the area i have some masts where i can place ap's.
Would it make sense to use directional antenna's there ?
    Whitch type ?
I have a big open area where it is not possibel to place ap's.
The only placement is a mast in the middle of the area.
    I have a AP1552 with 5,2 db antennas there.
Can i get better coverage if i place 3 or 4 ap's with directional antennas ?
    Or should i try with a 12dBi AIR-ANT24120 ?
    /Per Buch

    Hi Per,
With directional antennas, the client usually can see the signal from high distance. However, sometimes the clients can not connect if they are far away from the AP although they can see the WLAN. The reason is that the access point has enough power to transmit for high distance while the client adapter does not have enough power to trasmit the signal to reach the AP. in this case there is some kind of one-way communication.
If your area is small and your APs are not too far away from the client, you can use directional antennas if you make sure that directional antennas will cover the necessary area.
I have no practical experience with directional antennas so I am not able your second part if the coverage will be better or not.

  • Directional Antennas for CMX analytics?

    Hi there,
I am in the process of planning AP placements for a large scale outdoor CMX Analytics project. Unfortunately the client that owns the outdoor space, does not own the buildings that run parallel to certain areas and RF bleed to nearby businesses has to be at an absolute minimum.
I was thinking of placing several directional antennas in areas where this applies. Cisco state that in order to get accurate location tracking, a client should be heard by 3 x APs at a signal of -75 dBm or greater. Does the same apply if a directional antenna is thrown in to a triangulation area? Or do the APs have to all be omni-directional to get accurate location tracking?
    Regards,
    Brett

The same rules would apply.  You just need to make sure that in Prime you have specified the Antenna model and orientation.  That will all be considered when performing the triangulation calculations of the clients with those "3 APs".

  • Good directional antenna for Meraki MR62

Hello, we are using some Meraki MR62's to extend a wireless network out to an area where we can't wire. We're currently using Meraki 11dBi sector antennas. They get the signal there, but its not great. This is a remote area, so there isn't much wifi or other interference.
There are plenty of good directional antennas around, but I don't see many that use the dual antenna connections like the Meraki uses. What are some options for a higher gain, outdoor antenna that will actually work with our existing Merakis? Ideally something not crazy priced would be great as well.
    Thanks!

anyone else done this? MaaS360 is about half the price that airwatch is now and I am very frustrated with Airwatch's poorly trained, slow, incompetent outsourced support. • What does it mean, in iTunes, "your contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air"?

    Hello,
I'm trying to sync the contacts on my iPhone 5 with my contacts on my Mac Book Air (merge them), I'm also using Outlook (Microsoft) to manage my email account and my contacts.  I used to sync my contacts from my previous iPhone (4S) with my contacts on my Mac and also with contacts on Outlook.
Now that I have iPhone 5 I missed that sync (iPhone-Mac-Outlook), so I figure it out that in iTunes there is this message: "your contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air. Your contacts will also sync directly with this computer. This may result in duplicated data showing on your device"
Every contact created on iPhone doesn't sync with my Mac or Outlook.
How should I configure my iphone and my mac to sync properly??
    Thanks a lot!

  • Best Outdoor AP and Directional Antennas?

Dear Forum members, what AP do you usually prefer for outdoor installation and what types of Antennas do you typically use for omnidirectional and or directional antennas?
Thank you and have a great day,.
    AS

I am trying to design coverage of a warehouse, outside the loading area.  I have to install the AP either on the roof of the warehouse, or inside with cables that are feeding the external Antenna, off course that is installed outside.
On the roof???  May I ask how high is this roof?
Why do you want a directional antenna?  You only use a directional antenna if you want to push your wireless signal to a certain point in front.  If you want to propagate your signal around the AP then a directional antenna isn't the right choice.
How wide is the "frontage" coverage of the loading area?  What are the walls (including roof) made out of?  (corrugated metal sheet, bricks, wood?)
Regarding the vehicles that use the loading docks, are these flat-bed trucks or what are their shells made out of?
What do you need the wireless access points for in the loading dock?

  • Loading VARRAY's with SQL loader, direct path in 9i?

Isn't it possible to load VARRAY's with SQLloader and direct path in a Oracle 9i database?
    /Magnus Hornstrom
    mailto:[email protected]

    Daniel,
    I appreciate your response alot.
Now a follow on. You say that SQL*Loader is the fastest way to get data into Oracle Spatial even though the conventional path. How does SQL*Loader do this? Doesn't it use OCI?
I just can't help but think that coverting my data to SQL*Loader format, and then having it parse it and send it to the database in some form must be slower than me just sending whatever SQL Loader sends to the DB myself using OCI. Am I missing something?
The SQL Loader documentation seems to suggest that SQL*Loader just turns the input into alot of INSERT stateemnts. If so, can't I just do this?
My performance with OCI and INSERT statements isn't very good, but I believe I am doing one transaction per insert. Might I be as well off to concentrate on fine tuning my OCI based code using INSERTs?
I will actually do some time tests myself, but I would appreciate your opinion.
Once again thanks for the great info you have provided.
