Aironet 350 Series WiFi Issues

Hello Everyone,
Your assistance is greatly appreciated in this matter. Currently we have approximately 30 of the AIR-CAP3502I-A-K9's distributed across two floors that is being controlled by a wireless controller at another site. Signal strength is excellent, however, once devices connect to the APs the transfer rate DROPS dramatically. We think it is due to the outside interference in this building which are detecting almost 400+ rogue devices nailing our WiFi. Anyone have any suggestions/ideas?

Unless you know the username password, the only way is to perform a reset on the ap..... or else it would be too easy for people to access equipment that doesn't belong to them.

  • Aironet 350 PCMCIA WiFi CARD

I'm having a problem with a Cisco Aironet 350 WiFi PCMCIA Card (speed has to be auto) installed in a Sony Camera and intermittently not connecting to a ZyXEL ZyAIR G-110 WiFi PCMCIA Card (speed set to b only (which is 11 MBPS))which is installed in a Dell Laptop. On startup (laptop first then camera) it sometimes connects and sometimes doesn't. The ZyAir card is always fully initialized first then the Aironet is initialized.
What I also noticed that was strange is that if you toggle (fn + F2) the Centrino WiFi NIC (built into the laptop) on and then off the Aironet suddenly establishes connectivity.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you use a non cisco card you can NOT use any Cisco enhancements to the standards including LEAP or 128 WEP. 40 Bit WEP will work fine as long as your card supports it.

I can't use the acces point's serial for management system

Here is a link to the led indicators although your colors aren't shown in the list.

Based on the age of the unit, no access to the console, all LEDs are on. I would agree with Scott. It's likely bad ..

We just took over a site that has the 350 Series Ap's in place. I need to get into the AP and change the username and password... or at least set it back to default without killing the whole config.

  • Using Aironet 350 PCMCIA wifi card

i am trying to set up Aironet 350 PCMCIA card running on my laptop. from what i have seen people have been using airo_cs module with this card but when i do:
    modprobe airo_cs
    dmesg shows:
    airo(): Probing for PCI adapters
airo(): Finished probing for PCI adapters
so maybe this is not the correct driver for PCMCIA card. the only thing that dmesg shows when inserting the card is:
pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 0
but pccardctl info and ident show no info.
    any ideas are appreciated

thanks for the response. lscpi does not show any information on the card either.

  • I cannot get decent reception on my 4s from Sprint.  I understand there is a known WiFi issue with the 4s as well as antenna issues.  Is this true and is it resoved in the 5 series?

I cannot get decent reception on my 4s from Sprint.  I understand there is a known WiFi issue with the 4s as well as antenna issues.  Is this true and is it resoved in the 5 series?

I am aware that Sprint has network issues. I have learned that Apple does have reception issues with the 4s.  The 5 series has more antenna area and a different protocol. I have owned at least 6 iPhones personally and over 30 as a company.  The 4s is junk. Apple's attitude toward customer service is much more of a problem than Sprint's network.  Apple sent me your non-answer to my questions instead of anything real. I asked about the iPhone, not about Sprint.

  • Cisco aironet 1200 Series access point dropping clients

We are having an issue where our Cisco Aironet 1220 Series AP is constantly dropping clients. We have 3 APs mounted on a single tower, all out of each others range and freq. There are approximatly 30 clients on each AP. We are noticing an increase in dropped customers (up to 20 at a time). ANy suggestions? This only became an issue in the last few weeks, and nothing major has changed.

    Hi
Even I was facing almost the same kind of problem. But in my case it was wired clients to the workgroup bridge 350.
I had done lot of testings and reading at that time to resolve this problem.
However in your case I feel your problem can be resolved by keeping the option "Reliable multicast for Workgroup bridges" disabled in the APs under dot11radio interface settings. This is possibly because the radios cannot associate to more than 20 clients at a time if the option is in the enable mode.
You need to keep this option enabled in a root bridge when you have problems of dropping the wired clients to the workgroup bridge.
By keeping this option enabled, you are actually asking the Root bridges to consider the Workgroup bridges as Infrastructure devices and not as clients thereby making the roots to send all the multicasts to the WGBs. However in that case it losses the efficiency of associating more than 20 clients.
Let me know if this resolves your problem.

  • Aironet 1300 series as wireless client ?

    Hi there.
I would like to install a device on a yacht so that when the yacht enters a marina, it can connect to the marina wifi and then make that connection available to the yacht network. I am looking for a cisco device that will do similar to the Smartbridge Nexus (http://www.smartbridges.com/products/accesspoints.asp), which have done the job adequately in the past.
I was thinking of using a 1300 series outdoor unit, does anyone know if I can use it in the way I plan, or if there is an alternative.
    Many thanks,
    Neil

There are couple of options for you.
    1. Cisco 350 series workgroup bridge - this will connect to the marina wi-fi and provide wired access to the yacht. If you connect a hub to the WGB's output, you can spread the connection among multiple laptops.
    2. Also explore an option of using any Cisco AP as a repeater. A repeater will connect to the marina wi-fi wirelessly and extend the network to the yacht. But please note that the data rate may not be that good because of an extra hop in the middle.
For both these options to work, the marina wi-fi must be autonomous AP deployment based. If it is a lightweight-based wi-fi with a controller none of these options will work.

  • Aironet 350~~ Help Factory Settings must be RESTORED

    Hello,
I am the proud and happy new owner of the Cico Aironet 350 wireless access point. Now the issue (acquired by the company's buyout of another one), needless to say when I get it there is no username/passwords included. Just the cable/power supply and the wireless access point it self. Has anyone here ever worked with this unit before and if you have, do you know how to reset to the factory defaults?

    Hi Joshua,
    Here is the method to do a factory reset;
Reset the AP 350 That Runs Cisco IOS Software
Complete the steps in this section in order to reset an AP 350 that runs Cisco IOS Software.
Note: Cisco IOS Software-based APs have a default configuration that includes a username and password combination. Both the username and password are "Cisco", which is case-sensitive. After you reset to factory defaults, be prepared to give "Cisco" as both the username and password when you are prompted by either the GUI or the CLI.
The AP350 does not have a MODE button to reset the AP to factory defaults. So, if neither the GUI or CLI is available with sufficient privileges in the AP350, complete these steps to delete the current configuration and return all access point settings to the factory defaults using the CLI.
Reboot the access point by removing power and reapplying power. Let the access point boot until the command prompt appears and the access point begins to inflate the image. When you see these lines on the CLI, press ESC: Loading "flash:/" ...########################################################################### ################################################################################ ################################################################################ ####################
Once you press ESC, this information is displayed on the CLI screen..

  • Windows 98 and Aironet 350 PCI Card

I have a complicated question and would really appreciate any input anyone has. I have a network with 12 PC's that are running Windows 98 with Novell Netware. They all have Aironet 350 PCI cards in them. We recently decided to change an older PC out and took out it's Aironet card to install in the new PC which is a Dimension 4400. I install the card and the utilities and drivers and I can get the PC associated to the AP. I then install the Novell client and I can't get authenticated onto the network. I can't even get the Novell login to pop up. I can't even get out onto the internet which I can usually do even if I am not on the network. Neither my network admin nor I were here when these were originally deployed so maybe we are missing a step. Any help would be much appreciated. I would be glad to provide any additional info!
    Thanks
    Jamie

Thanks for the further info John. I would usually say sure and do it. I am only leary because a week ago this card was happily working in another machine. A interesting point to mention is that when I go into the access point all of my machines on the AP having their IP address in a field called IP Addr./Name and the machine I am having an issue with says unassigned. The last time we had this particular issue we had the network on 40 bit WEP encryption and then got a new card for a machine that could only run 128 bit so we changed the encryption and everything has been fine since. Once again thanks for all of your help!

  • Iphone 4S wifi issues 7.0.4

    hey guys
    IPHONE 4S - Help needed
first post on here as im at the end of my tether with this phone.  So after installing IOS 7.0.3 i had no issues untill about 2 weeks in wifi started dropping out intermitently, at home, and office. i took no notice.
once i actually needed to use the Wifi about a week later is when i noticed Wifi was off and i couldnt connect.
so after forgetting the home network and trying to re-connect i kept getting 'Unable to connect' or the network purely wouldnt show.
so i wiped the phone to backup > issue didnt fix
i secondly wiped the phone  to fresh > issue didnt fix...
IOS 7.0.4 released > Install to backup > issue didnt fix
    booked into genuis bar ...
they performed diagnostics > all clear
they wiped phone to IOS 7.0.4 > Hey presto , worked like a treat .... but wait
now 2 days later (sunday , phone got fixed on friday)
Issue returned. Thought maybe the music or pictures or apps i reinstalled off the mac were corrupt and brought the issue back (unlikely)
another fresh install to IOS 7.0.4 (this time, new playlist and no pics for the phone)
    Minimal apps reinstalled
    (ISSUE NOT FIXED) !!!!
im getting so annoyed. the Home network keeps coming and going....
anyone got any ideas. (i know its not the broadband as i have many other things hooked up to it and all work perfect, i.e. Tv, Mac, Ipad, Apple TV etc)

ChrisJ4203, thanks very much for your input.  I don't mean to turn this post into an endless debate, but frankly I am still having a hard time believing that the WiFi died as a result of a hardware failure.
My logic might be flawed, but here it is:
While the iPhone 4S got very hot when wirelessly downloading and installing iOS 7.0.4 over the WiFi network, the WiFi chip and antenna had to be functional to complete the wireless iOS update.  Apple was very clear that iOS 7.0.4 is too large to download and install via cellular service.  Accordingly it would appear that any hardware failure had to occur in the few minutes between the download/installation of iOS 7.0.4 and its first use.  That window of opportunity is incredibly small in an otherwise flawless hardware performance.  I am not a big believer in long shot coincidences, so a WiFi hardware malfunction seems highly improbable to me, but not impossible.  A firmware/iOS conflict still seems more plausible to me.
I also don't read much into Apple's "out-of-warranty" replacement offer at $199.  AT&T tells me that anyone walking in off the street (with or without a hardware or iOS malfunction) would receive the same offer.
I appreciate that some iPhone 4S users did not experience any WiFi issues when they updated to iOS 7.0.4, but such difference could easily be explained if Apple used more than one WiFi chip and/or firmware in the iPhone 4S series.  Such an explanation would also account for iOS 7.0.4 (and 7.0.6) not recognizing the WiFi chip after the iOS update.
Still perplexed, but thanks again for your kind efforts to help.
Wonder if I can limp along long enough to spend my money on an Apple iPhone 6 ... but then again I don't want to be anyone's beta-tester.
I am tempted to switch to a Samsung Galaxy or some other smartphone as long as I will be buying new accessories, but frankly I don't want to waste my time learning a new OS or core apps.

  • Aironet 350 w/ Linksys WAP11

I'm trying to add an Aironet 350 PC card to an existing Linksys WLAN. I've configured the WLAN for WEP-disabled, open access. I've set all the parameters on the 350 to match a working Linksys card. I've disabled MAC control on the Linksys Access Point.
The Aironet Client Utility reports that the card is "not associated". When I bring up statistics, I see lots of PLCP CRC errors.
    Any pointers?

No 2.4Ghz equipment in the house (except possibly the microwave, which is not running). The linksys is using both antennas. I'm not dead certian what 'diversity' means, but it sends/receives on each. Also, when I'm communicating with a LinkSys PC Card, I'm getting 100% signal strength and 100% signal quality, so the problem would not seem to be electronic noise.
The retailer's support staff has suggested that I ensure that the WAP is using the same protocol! (Um... I think that's what WiFi/802.11b means.)
I've tried setting up the Aironet card and the LinkSys card on a different laptop. Same results. When the Linksys card is in, it talks to the WAP, but the Aironet says it is not associated, and shows lots of CRC errors.
Any other ideas, or should I just throw in the towell and send it back?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Aironet 350 Access Point needs security

I have been asked to help a fledgling school lock down their wireless network.  The network is currently setup as 3 Aironet 350 Access Points with operating on the same subnet distributed around the school.
These have NOT been updated or touched since the day they were installed, by all acounts.  I think they are running VXworks.  My issue is that most support links that might prove helpful seem to be broken.
    A few simple questions:
Can the Aironet 350 be secured and then used with a simple shared key?  This link seems to say no, that you must have Cisco software on the user computer as well.  that certainly can't be right, can it?
I'm clearly out of my comfort zone with these, but they just don't have anyone to do this for them.  It looks like they need to be flashed to IOS and then able to use WPA but not WPA2?  I'm having trouble finding a firmware lik for the 350 as well because it's EOL.
Basically, any help or information is welcome!  I'm ready to just pull the plug on them and call them secure!

350 APs (not bridges) can be converted to IOS.  Then they can do WPA-PSK TKIP.  Downside is they only have 802.11b radios.  The latest IOS they can run is old but could probably be setup with WDS using an internal RADIUS server on one.
The upgrade tool and image are still available for download.  I'm attaching a .pdf of instructions.
    You need these files:
    Aironet-AP-Cisco-IOS-Conversion-Tool-v2.1.exe
    AP350-Cisco-IOS-Upgrade-Image-v2.img

  • Power Solution for the 350 Series products

Because of distance constraints and the environment I run fiber and a 2 conductor copper wire to each of my access points' locations. The 2 conductor copper wire provides the low voltage DC which powers the access point. The AUI to Fiber transceiver was then powered through the AUI port on the access point. This worked great with the Aironet 4800 series products. I'm looking to deploy the 350 series products but I have not found a clean solution that will allow me to continue to deploy the access points in this manner. Has anyone found a solution or know of a company that has a product or solution. Basically I need a 48 Vdc Fiber to UTP transceiver / power injector, 48 Vdc Input - 48 Vdc Output on pins 4,5 (-) and 7.8 (+) RJ-45 Jacks, 10/100 Ethernet compatible.

What are your distances like? I've successfuly run 350s over crappy (I mean real crappy, full of splices, etc) old POTS-grade lines up to 440 feet. You might be able to get further with quality Cat 5, or better, cable. You might have to step down the speed and/or duplex of the Ethernet ports on both sides to get it to work. Between 440 and 500 feet, I can still show a link light, but can't pass layer 3 data, haven't tested further to find out why; could be attenutation on the wire, in which case maybe running larger gauge wire would help.
