Aironet 600 Series Access Points

Hello all.
I am wanting to setup a wireless environment in my small chuch (obviously on a small budget ) and I was thinking about using 8 Aironet 600 APs with a 2504 controller.  Does anyone see any problem with that?  I am not looking to setup a secure tunnel/VPN anywhere, I just want wifi to be available for anyone on enterprise level equipment throughout the facility.
Thank you.
Jay

The AP 600's are for OfficeExtend and will not work for you. I would look at the AP 1602 or the lower end AP 702. Those will work for you.

  • Cisco aironet 1200 Series access point dropping clients

We are having an issue where our Cisco Aironet 1220 Series AP is constantly dropping clients. We have 3 APs mounted on a single tower, all out of each others range and freq. There are approximatly 30 clients on each AP. We are noticing an increase in dropped customers (up to 20 at a time). ANy suggestions? This only became an issue in the last few weeks, and nothing major has changed.

    Hi
Even I was facing almost the same kind of problem. But in my case it was wired clients to the workgroup bridge 350.
I had done lot of testings and reading at that time to resolve this problem.
However in your case I feel your problem can be resolved by keeping the option "Reliable multicast for Workgroup bridges" disabled in the APs under dot11radio interface settings. This is possibly because the radios cannot associate to more than 20 clients at a time if the option is in the enable mode.
You need to keep this option enabled in a root bridge when you have problems of dropping the wired clients to the workgroup bridge.
By keeping this option enabled, you are actually asking the Root bridges to consider the Workgroup bridges as Infrastructure devices and not as clients thereby making the roots to send all the multicasts to the WGBs. However in that case it losses the efficiency of associating more than 20 clients.
Let me know if this resolves your problem.

  • 1300 Series Access Point/Bridge Power Injector - Using power over ethernet

Can I use power over ethernet to supply the Injector with power?

    Hi Mikael,
    Sorry, this will not work. Have a look at these specs;
    1300 Series Power
    Power
The access point/bridge receives inline power from the Cisco Aironet Power Injector (hereafter called the power injector). Dual-coax cables are used to provide Ethernet data and power from the power injector to the access point/bridge. The power injector is an external unit designed for operation in a sheltered environment, such as inside a building or vehicle. The power injector also functions as an Ethernet repeater by connecting to a Category 5 LAN backbone and using the dual-coax cable interface to the access point/bridge.
The power injector is available in two models:
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2 standard version (included with the access point/bridge)
    48-VDC input power
Uses the 48-VDC power module (included with the access point/bridge)
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2T optional transportation version
    12- to 40-VDC input power
Note The power injector and the power module must not be placed in an outdoor unprotected environment. The power module must not be placed in a building's environmental air space, such as above a suspended ceiling.

The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge Power Injector, converts the standard 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface that is suitable for weather protected areas to a dual F-Type connector interface for coax cables that are more suitable for harsh outdoor environments. The Power Injector also provides power to the outdoor unit over the same cables with a power discover feature and surge protection. To support longer cable runs from your wireless network switch or router, the Power Injector LR is designed to accommodate up to a 100 meter coaxial cable run plus 100 meters of indoor cat5 cable?enabling total cable runs up to 200 meters. The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge ships with the Power Injector LR2 and an AC power supply.

  • Need to disable AP mode multicast in 1231 series access point

    Hi
I have one controller 2504 and some 1200 series access points.I am using 3 SSID .I want to use two ssid in HREAP mode but HREAP mode is not showinh in access point because multicast is enabled on AP mode. Please see the below picture
I have disabled the multicast globally from CLI.
    config network multicast global disabled
Please help me in disabling the multicast so that i can set the access point in HREAP mode.
    Thanks ....

    Hi George
I have found a document in which it is mentioned which platform are supported..
These are the restrictions to remember while you use H-REAP.
Hybrid REAP is supported only on the 1130AG, 1140, 1240, 1250, 1260,           AP801, AP 802, 1040, and AP3550 APs and on the Cisco WiSM, Cisco 5500, 4400,           2100, 2500, Flex 7500 Series Controllers, the Catalyst 3750G Integrated           Wireless LAN Controller Switch, and the Controller Network Module for           Integrated Services Routers.
But why it is giving an remark on controller tab that multicast is not supported with HREAP on this platform ?
Is this the limitation of cisco 2504 controller or the limitation of 1231 access point ?
Does that mean i can use my SSID in HREAP mode if i am using 1231 series access point ?
    Thanks...

  • 1600 series Access Point

i want to know 1600 series Access Point support the below or not :-
    1)Support up 64 Users
    2)VPN pass-through support
    3)Wireless Distribution System
    4)Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) 64-bit, 128-bit encryption

    Hi Peter,
will you use this AP as standalone or  with Controller ?
    1. Normally, the AP is a shared medium and acts as a wireless hub, the performance of each user decreases as the number of users increases on an individual AP. Ideally,as rule of thumb not more than 25 clients should associate with the AP because the throughput of the AP is reduced with each client that associates to the AP.
    2. VPN connection will work with this AP.
    3. WDS supported.
    4. yes, It supports.

  • Bridging with 1131 Ag series access point.

    Hi,
I want to use 1131 AG series access point for bridging between two buildings which are 20 metres apart from each other.
Is it possible and what are the limitation for this design?
    Please help.
    thanks in advance.
    Pulkit Sharma

    Hi Pulkit,
The autonomous 1130AG series access point supports these operating wireless modes:
? Root access point?Connected to a wired LAN and supports wireless clients.
? Repeater access point? Not connected to a wired LAN, associates to a root access point, and supports wireless clients
? Workgroup bridge? Not connected to a wired LAN, associates to a root access point or bridge, and supports wired network devices.
As this unit was not designed to be use outdoors, having a clean RF line of sight is really difficult. To be honest I do not think this unit was designed to connect two remote buildings even if the units are indoors. I would look for APs with detachable antennas like the 1242AG or the 1200 modular series so you can use external antennas and bridging roles.
    Hope it helps,
    Roger Carpio.

  • Cisco aironet 1310 Outdoor access point

I am looking at outdoor access points, I want to stick with Cisco aironet, we currently have 6 of them that are 6 years old and running great, one has had a problem because of humidity, dried it out and relocated and we are good again.
I was looking at the Aironet 1310 Outdoor access point, but I can't find much information on it.  I am looking to see how many SSIDs can be setup, we currently have 2 one private, and one public, this is done with VLANS.  I am also looking at finding out about the power injector, it converts to coaxial cable, it has 2 RJ-45 and 2 Coaxial, does this mean if we get 2 access points, then I only need 1 power injector?
Thanks for any help you can give.

    Rusty:
AP supports up to 16 SSIDs to be configured.
Multiple SSIDs with VLANs configuration is done almost the same way you do with current Aironet APs.
    see here: http://tiny.cc/0qwnkw
You also need one power injector per AP. Each AP should use it's own power injector.
The two coaxial output in the power injector both are used to be connected to the AP (see below image).
The RJ-45 connectors in the power injector one of them is for Console connectivity and the other for network ethernet connectivity.

  • Beginner Needs Help with Aironet 1131G Wireless Access Point

I have a new Cisco Aironet 1131G Wireless Access point.  It is picking up an IP address and I can ping that address.  However, I can't access it via the web-based GUI or the CLI.  I have preformed the reset.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I cannot access means what?? are you not able to go to CONFIG T prompt from CLI?? and if you are in the same subnet as that of the AP, are you not able to open up the GUI?? if you are not able to then, issue the command "show version" on the AP CLI and see if your image is "RCVKW8" image. if so u need to convert the same to IOS using the below method..

  • Image Recovery for Cisco Aironet 1300 Outdoor Access Point

We purchased two 1300 APs for outside. There is a new release for the image that we wanted to use so, we have the latest security updates. We downloaded, logged onto the access point just fine, but the image never took. After four hours with a direct connection, it was still going and this morning we came in and it just keep rebooting. Our network guy states it looks like a corrupt image. We can barely do anything and since there is no "mode" button like the earlier models, I have not found anything on web sites or forums to help us reload a good image to the access point. I would appreciate any insight someone has and/or where to look for this. I logged on and downloaded about every manual on the 1300 I could find, but have not found a good way to fix this. Not even the upgrade tool will connect since it just keeps rebooting.

    Hi Bruce,
    Because (as you correctly noted) the 1300 does not have a mode button you could try this method;
Complete the steps in this section in order to reset Cisco IOS Software-based bridges:
If the privileged command prompt ap# is available in the CLI, the write erase command and the reload command erase the startup configuration and reset the unit.
If the GUI is available, choose System Software > System Configuration. Press the Reset to Defaults button.
Aironet 1300 Series Bridges do not have a MODE button to reset the AP to factory defaults. So, if neither the GUI or CLI is available with sufficient privileges, complete these steps to delete the current configuration and return the entire bridge settings to the factory defaults using the CLI.
Open the CLI with a Telnet session or a connection to the bridge console port.
Reboot the bridge by removing and reapplying power.
Allow the bridge to boot until the command prompt appears and the bridge begins to inflate the image.
Press ESC when you see lines that are similar to these on the CLI:
    Loading "flash:/c1310-k9kw-7mx.v122_15_ja.200040314-k9w7-mx.v122_15_ja.20040314"
...#############################################################################Note: In order to access the boot loader, you must press ESC twice. But this action depends on the terminal-emulation software that you use.
Messages that are similar to these appear:

Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort boot process.

After the bridge reboots, reconfigure the bridge with the web browser interface, the Telnet interface, or Cisco IOS Software commands.
Note: The bridge is configured with the factory default values that include:
The IP address, which is set to receive an IP address with DHCP. If you do not have a DHCP server, you can access the bridge using the default IP address of 10.0.0.1 using HTTP/HTTPS or Telnet. Once you gain access to the bridge via Telnet or GUI, you can modify the IP address of the bridge.
Note: This default IP address of 10.0.0.1 becomes available only for a short period. So, make sure that you assign your own IP address to the bridge within that period of time.
The default username and password, "Cisco".

One other thing, be careful with the new IOS that you aren't loading a LWAPP Recovery Image. (it almost sounds like what may have happened)

  • Typical propagation distance of outdoor(1552E series) access point

    Hello All,
I need to propose an design for outdoor WAP deployment for an huge resort. As it is a complete open space area without any obstruction, I believe the signal can be propagated easily in over 35 meters radius across the access point. However I don't get any documentation to know exact propagation distance.
Could someone please share their experiences as to what is the ideal distance of signal coverage that could be covered by a typical Cisco outdoor access point? I do not want to go for over quoting as that might result from the client opting for other vendor's product. I would thus want to go with most appropriate plan.
Also apart from 11ac capability and multiple spatial streams, does 1570 AP have any other major improvement as well our its predecessor 1552E series AP.
    Please share your expereinces.
    Best Regards,
    Muhammed Adnan

    Factors Affecting Wireless Networking Performance
There are many factors that affect your Wireless Networking Performance that are dependent on various areas within the network itself from the technology of the devices used, the local environment the signals will travel through, the fundamental physics behind wireless transmission and more. Some of these cannot be avoided and measures must be taken to try to minimise the negative affect that these factors will have on the network performance but others can be resolved completely either though equipment upgrading or good network planning.
There are some well known factors that affect Wireless Networking performance that most people will identify easily but that does not lessen their importance when considering network planning, these are:
Obvious Factors Affecting Wireless Networking Performance
        Physical Obstructions
Network Range & Distance between Devices
        Wireless Network Interference
        Signal Sharing
Quite Well Known Factors Affecting Wireless Networking Performance
        Network Usage & Load
        Poorly Deployed Antennas
        Local Environment Characteristics
        Spectrum Channel Limitations
        Signal Reflection
        Wireless Signal Restriction
Lesser Known Factors Affecting Wireless Networking Performance
        Transmitter Power Limitations
        Backwards Compatibility with Older Standards
        Polarisation of Signal
Speed Loss Due to Wireless Overheads

  • Setting time on 1130AG series Access Point

I noticed on one of my clients AP's which is an 1130AG series that it had a setting for SNTP. I was a little surprised that it did not have the capability to use regular NTP.
The SNTP servers configured for the AP were two Cisco routers.
Is this a common configuration? Is there a way to upgrade so that the AP's can use NTP?
The current code on the AP is 12.3(8)JA.
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    The commands for this changed from NTP to SNTP somewhere in the 12.2.x releases, so "older" AP IOS's did support NTP. Here is some info for 12.3.(4)JA;
Managing the System Time and Date
You can manage the system time and date on the wireless device automatically, using the Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP), or manually, by setting the time and date on the wireless device.
Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) is a simplified, client-only version of NTP. SNTP can only receive the time from NTP servers; it cannot be used to provide time services to other systems. SNTP typically provides time within 100 milliseconds of the accurate time, but it does not provide the complex filtering and statistical mechanisms of NTP.
You can configure SNTP to request and accept packets from configured servers or to accept NTP broadcast packets from any source. When multiple sources are sending NTP packets, the server with the best stratum is selected.
If multiple servers are at the same stratum, a configured server is preferred over a broadcast server. If multiple servers pass both tests, the first one to send a time packet is selected. SNTP will only choose a new server if it stops receiving packets from the currently selected server, or if a better server (according to the above criteria) is discovered.
    Configuring SNTP
SNTP is disabled by default. To enable SNTP on the access point, use one or both of these commands in global configuration mode:
    sntp server {address | hostname}
    [version number]
Configures SNTP to request NTP packets from an NTP server.
    sntp broadcast client
Configures SNTP to accept NTP packets from any NTP broadcast server
Enter the sntp server command once for each NTP server. The NTP servers must be configured to respond to the SNTP messages from the access point.
If you enter both the sntp server command and the sntp broadcast client command, the access point will accept time from a broadcast server but prefers time from a configured server, assuming the strata are equal. To display information about SNTP, use the show sntp EXEC command.
    Hope this helps!
