AirPlay:  Audio is choppy but video is fine

Whether trying to stream via Mac mini, iPod or iPad to my Apple TV 2 the video has no problems at all but the audio is impossibly choppy.  This is the case whether using Netflix, streaming ALAC from iTunes or streaming 192kbps mp3s from iOS devices.
There doesn't *seem* to be a connection speed issue in my home (I have FiOS and Speedtest.net confirms that speed isn't an issue).
Any suggestions?  I've tried updating, rebooting, and any other basic fixes but nothing helps.
I'd wire the connection but my receiver is a bit old for that and this room is too far from the router to hard wire.  I may try a wifi signal booster as a last ditch effort but want to avoid that until I'm sure there is a better solution that doesn't require yet more hardware.

Like I say, there are two 24 modes on that camera. Is your sequence set up for 24fps or 29.97? Whichever one it is, try the other and see if it makes a difference.
What were your capture settings? You need to clarify that you've captured correctly (I'm not sure whether it's possible to capture 24fps material incorrectly as I've never tried).
The basic thing you need to do is determine whether you shot native 24 or 24 converted in camera to 30, and work forward from there.
You might find more experts on your camera and its settings over at [www.dvinfo.net]

I've tried 2 different screen capture devices, and in both cases, audio stops recording after 20 or 30 seconds, but video is fine.  The audio disappears with both programs.  Does anyone know what is happening with my audio capture?

Update, I took the webcam home over the weekend and tried on my home network and the outcome was the same video fine - audio delayed, is this a Skype for desktop issue?

  • Airplay audio stutters from Yosemite, video remains unusable.

I've come across numerous other threads describing this issue but none seems to have a resolution other than "wait until Apple fixes it via update", so I decided to make a post and see if I could find some newer answers since it's been a while.
Upon updating my macbook pro to Yosemite back in when it was released, Airplay audio from my MacBook to my Apple TV 3rd Gen stutters for about 30 seconds after beginning Airplay and intermittently thereafter. With Mavericks, everything worked perfectly and nothing has changed hardware-wise since then, which handily implies that Yosemite is to blame. Still, I have wiped and restored both my macbook and the Apple TV (via usb), and even my router (Airport Extreme ac) in my efforts to troubleshoot with no luck. Wifi conditions are maybe 8 feet with direct line of sight and I've tried both 2.4 and 5 GHz spectra. Video airplay functions after a fashion but has a continuous stutter that makes it practically unusable. Note that this issue also affects my partner's MBP but both of our iPhone 6's continue to function perfectly. The Apple TV is connected to the Airport via ethernet cable.
Other solutions I have come across include disabling bluetooth on the mac, but this solution is untenable as it breaks the functionality of Continuity features which I have come to depend on and also doesn't seem to work for everyone, and several terminal commands which alter the behavior of bluetooth on my system which ultimately have the same adverse side effects as simply disabling it.
I am seriously lamenting this broken airplay functionality and, since it was a key motivator in my use of the Apple TV product, am strongly considering something different. Am I pretty much just out of luck here?

Edited to note that the Apple TV was connected via ethernet.

Completely random fix that worked for me - was driving me nuts and like you tried every other suggestion.
I was certain issue was post iMac Beta upgrade to 10.10.3 - reverted back to 10.10.2 and still there - did all the Blue Tooth, router suggestions blah blah blah
Changed to wired network, still there.
I then factory reset Apple TV - while not connected to the network - problem was not present - just playing around in Apple TV basics no issues - happily confirmed not the Apple TV.
Removed wired network, re-added wifi network, de-authorised my computer and then re-authorised and everything has since worked - just watched an hour long show and no issue.
Doing a little jig of joy - off work today sick so wanted the bloody Apple TV working Fingers crossed it works for you.

  • Audio dropping out, but video fine. Please help!

For the past week or so i've been having this issue where after so many minutes of watching tv the audio will cut out from that channel, but the video will remain the same.  If I change the channel the audio is fine, but eventually it will cut out.  I then can go to a THIRD channel and, sure enough, sound will drop eventually.  It's not the TV because I was watching DVDs all day and it was perfectly fine.  I don't have surround sound, it's not hooked through a receiver or anything else fancy.  It's just a straight connection from the box to the TV via an HDMI cable.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That might be fixed by doing the following
There is a special setup menu that you can enter, that is NOT part of the regular set to box menu settings. To get there:
Power off the Set top box -> Select -> Menu.
On STB's with no select or menu buttons, on the remote press STB Power OFF -> OK -> Menu.
You will see a white screen and an all text menu called USER SETTINGS. Use the arrow keys to move around.
Scroll down to a line that says "ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS" and hit a right arrow to get into the next level of the menu
There is a sound setting called AUDIO OUTPUT It says AUTO Scroll to it and change it to L-PCM.
Exit out of the menus, power the unit off and power it on again

  • [ Helix ] Rear camera picture malformed, but video is fine. Software or hardware problem?

Hi, it's is my first post here, so  welcome everyone
I've just purchased Helix 3702-3LO (i7, 8GB, 128GB, Win8Pro 64bits upgraded to 8.1) and today found some problem. Pictures taken by rear camera are malformed. The picture looks like:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5MpmFU1Jqq8Ym5ucGt6WDhUQXM/edit?usp=sharing
But at the same time video taken by the camera is perfect. So how do you think, is it software or hardware problem?
I've already tried refresh drivers, update what was possible to update, but still no imrovement, I still want avoid sending the computer to the service. It looks like some part of the image (bottom) is paste in the middle. Looks like codecs problem???
But now I'm not sure if it is only software problem or may be some how hardware (video is recorded is fine).
    Thank you.

Thank you kroe, you were absolutely right!
I rolled back the driver and it's fixed now, I should think about this in first place! :-)
"Device manager" > "Imaging devices" > "AIT Webcam" > Right Mouse Button Menu > "Properties" > Tab "Driver" > "Roll back driver" > OK
and now I have, like you wrote, "Integrated Rear Camera" instead of "AIT Webcam"
And the photos are perfect now :-) Thx again.
    So.. problem SOLVED! Thx

  • I get a black capture screen (preview), but video captures fine.  What gives?

I get a black capture screen when capturing with CS6 on a Windows 7 machine.  I'm capturing through Firewire from DV tape, via the VCR function of a Canon XL2 camera.  I have tried restarting, etc.; also toggled the "preview video" radio from the Settings button in the capture Window.  Nothing works and I need to be able to preview my video as I'm capturing.  It is not good enough that the video actually captures fine.  Also, I am forced to turn off Device Control in order to capture because it kicks me out of every capture (an immediate message of : "no frames captured") unless I do.  Please help.

I'm not familiar with the process of rolling back to a previous update and I assume that is what you are suggesting?  It looks like I'm running 6.05.  Are you suggesting I roll all the way back to 6.00 past 6.04. 6.03, etc? And if I do roll back, does that mean I have to completely uninstall and reinstall CS6 first?  That would be a royal pain.
A little more updated info:  It's not just in attempting to capture from a DV tape that I get the black capture screen, but the live firewire signal is also black, though again it actaully captures just fine, I just cannot monitor the screen while doing it.
And it's definitely not something physical, like a bad firewire cable, because I also have the old 2.0 version of Premiere installed on the same machine so I tried an experiment:   I open CS6, then open the capture screen (which of course remains black).  So I close CS6 and open 2.0 and then open the capture window.  It too is black.  But if I restart my machine and open 2.0 without first opening CS6, and then open the capture window, the display is just fine.  So obviosuly some service from CS6 is remaining open when I close it and thus affecting 2.0.
This problem is really starting to irritate me.

  • Help! Audio is working but video is not!

    Memory: 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
My friend and I have been trying to video chat on ichat we are both using macs and we both are using AIM.
I was looking on some other topics and I changed the firewall setting and the server and now instead of gettin errors it connects me but all I see is myself really blurry and she cant see me at all and I dont see her but she can hear me. When I check the "connection doctor" it says Audi 100% video 0%
how do I get my video to work??

    Hi
Have you set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to 500.
    Restart iChat.

  • How can I get netflix streaming audio, the video is fine but the audio coming through is from the TV(dish)

how can I get netflix streaming audio, the video is fine but the audio coming through is from the TV(dish)

It's exactly as I stated. Whenever I try to drag these kinds of loops (ESX24 / software instrument loops? the ones marked in green with the white music note next to them) from the loop browser into the timeline a message comes up saying Audio Not Found for that loop.  And a new track is created automatically when loops are dragged into the timeline, so I'm not creating some other random / synth instrument track so I'm not sure  what the deal is... But perhaps I'll try creating a software instrument track first and then drag the loop into that track and see what happens - maybe there's something with the default settings that automatically creates audio tracks whenever loops are imported?

    1. I ran software update and am up to date. Does this mean that my yet to be activated Boot Camp ap is also up to date?
There are 4 confusing pages of updates listed at Apples website for Boot Camp. I am having a hard time understanding what I need and don't need. For example, what version of Boot Camp do I have? I have Boot Camp Assistant version 3.0.4. Does this mean I have Boot Camp ver 3?
You have Mac OS X Snow Leopard, so you are going to use Boot Camp 3 on Windows. After installing Windows 7 on your MacBook, insert the Snow Leopard DVD and install the Boot Camp drivers from here. Then, as the Boot Camp drivers that your Snow Leopard disc contain are outdated, open Apple Software Update on Windows to install the most recent Boot Camp drivers.
    D_avid wrote:
    2. The printed Boot Camp instructions do not explain the process of using downloaded Windows drivers; the instuctions only refer to drivers on the original disks. I have the original install disks from around mid 2010 but I am sure many things have been updated by now. Wouldn't the best idea be to download and install? But the instructions only cover using the original disks. How do I use downloaded drivers?
On Snow Leopard, you can only download the Boot Camp drivers for the Late 2010 MacBook Air. On Lion and Mountain Lion, you have to download the Boot Camp drivers for all the computers. If you try to download the Boot Camp drivers on Snow Leopard with your computer, you will get a message telling that there aren't any drivers to download for your MacBook Pro

My purpose for copying to a CD or DVD is so that I can make copies and send to friends and relatives. What is the best way to get these files on a CD/DVD with the right codecs?
The easiest thing to do is to simply tell your friends and relatives to copy the files to their local hard drive before playing them. Your basic problem is that data discs have a limited real time transfer rate. Since you say VLC plays the files fine, I might suspect its player is likely buffering the data while the QT 7 Player is not.
Data discs made for playback directly from the CD or DVD are normally encoded using MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) video with AAC audio. This is a modern codec which has specific settings to re-package the data (i.e., must be encoded using the multipass option and then select the "optimize for CD/DVD" option).

  • Why is audio fine on export but video is white?

Hey all, I'm brand new to the forum but I need a little help.
I am doing some editing work from home for a website. The clips I am receiving are coming in mp4 compressed. The clips need to go into Avid Media Composer running on pc windowsXP in 720p project. The mp4s are around 800mb each full 1 hour shows compressed. When injested into Avid clips obviously look horrible. I was told to take into quicktime then export w/ DVCpro/NTSC codec which is the native codec to the pre-compressed clips. When I used the settings given I get fine audio but video is all WHITE. Export is fine w/ any other settings but DVCpro. I was told to try perian codecs download but I was having trouble finding a PC version.
Any thoughts, ideas? Any help would be very appreciated!

    Hello,
I am having the same problem. Yesterday I could hear only audio without video picture but today, I can not watch videos even on apple page. It offers to open video with divix. I tried to unnistall quick time player by moving it to the trash, I know now that was bad idea. After that, I uploaded quick time player 7 but nothing happens. I appreciate any help.
    Thanks

  • TS3623 I rented a movie and can watch preview perfectly with video and audio feed as signal strength is at top when I checked. However, when I purchased rental video is fine , but I get scratched sound for audio. Any thoughts to fix?

I rented a movie and can watch preview perfectly with video and audio feed as signal strength is at highest when I checked. However, when I purchased rental video is fine , but I get scratched sound for audio. Any thoughts to fix? I rented movie within week and it worked. All previews of movies and show also works.

I have a suspicion that the problem is not in the recording device itelf, but rather in the playback-software, which is struggling with an unfamiliar audio format/codec/whatever-it's-called... I opened the file in QuickTime Player 7 (7.6.6) and selected "Show Movie Properties" and it says:
    "Video Track: H.264
    Sound Track: Integer (Little Endian)"
All current Mac systems support Integer (both Big and Little Endian) audio natively. The fact you can hear anything at all proves that the audio is playing back. The most likely problem would be a malfunction associated with the mic pickup.

  • Audio is not decoding properly on text messages sent from Motorola Android. Video plays fine but audio is unintelligible chirping.

I have iphone4. Some inbound text messsages with imbedded video clips do not play the audio properly. Audio chirps as if bad decode. Is there firmware/software updates or other apps to help with this issue?

Harm, I didn't pay attention to those settings, I should have. I got hung up in the preset names and figured those were my only choices. How green I am, lol. I made a preset with a Target of 4 (max 6) and VBR 1 Pass, and I knocked the audio down to 128K being it's just speech, and it all worked great. The new file plays in both players perfectly and also plays on my iPad with no jitter. Filesize is about 240mb but that's fine, it works. Problem solved and in the books. BTW, I use a GTX570.
Jim, I agree, VLC is super, it was the only player that would play 5D Mark II files right out of camera back in 2008, on my dual core Dell laptop with a cheesy Nvidia 7900 graphics card. Problem is, the majority of people I'm sending these MP4s to are Mums & Dads in our church, etc, and you know quite well that those folks are running some consumer Dell or HP setup they bought at Costco on closeout.
Funny backstory, when the 5D2 came out in Sept 2008, that was what thrust me into video. So I immediately bought the Prod Premium CS4 Suite (already owned Photoshop for a few years being a stills guy) and installed it on that Dell 17" laptop I mentioned above. After getting the 5D2 finally in Jan 2009, I actually had the nerve to take my first attempt at creating a video in Premiere and encoding it on that laptop. I literally had to kill AME partway through because I was seconds away from burning out my processor (I had been using RealTemp because of how hot that thing ran using Word, lol). It was that event that made me convince myself to start researching how to build a real editing PC (using an i7 920 at the time). I probably drove Harm nuts back then with all my questions, lol! But this rig has been my workhorse and has been through countless upgrades, the only thing remaining from the original 2009 build is the case and the power supply.
I know, you guys didn't need all that info, just felt like shooting the breeze. Thanks again!

  • Sound very choppy and out of sync on videos. Fine when playing music

Whenever I try to play a video on iTunes I must use quicktime instead because the Audio makes it so unbearable. It becomes choppy and delayed by a few seconds. It almost pulses.
My audio is fine when I try to play music and fine on quicktime.
    Anyone got any idea???
    Thanks

Did you ever get an answer on this?  I have the exact same problem.  Windows Vista, iTunes 10.5.3.3
Songs play great, videos are choppy and warble but they play fine on QuickTime.

  • [SOLVED] ATI HDMI audio fails when playing videos... fine otherwise.

On a fresh install of Arch Linux, despite being an amateur at best. I'm using ATI HDMI audio using the open source driver, on GNOME 3. I'm switching to Catalyst after posting this to see if that might help, somehow.
After adding the radeon.audio=1 to the bootloader, audio on the system began working just fine as long as I restricted myself to audacious (haven't tried another audio player) or the system sound tests. When I try to use VLC, or mplayer2 for that matter, not only does it not play the audio associated with the video but NO audio will pass through the system at all. I have tried changing the audio source in VLC, although default should work... nothing works. Changing the audio in VLC will cause the system's audio to max out. Changing it back to something else doesn't help, but I can change the volume after closing the video programs, and after a few clicks it will go back to the "bloop" sound that confirms volume changes. Everything works fine again.
I have been at this all day and I am at wit's end. My google searches are getting way too long to be of any help. Any pointers or obvious things that I've missed in my caffeine haze would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
