AirPlay button but no devices

I have iTunes 11.0.1.12 installed on Windows 7.  I have both a new Airport Express and an Apple TV.  When I go into the Mini player, I see the AirPlay button, but when I click on it, there is nothing other than a volumne control.  Any thoughts?  AirPlay works fine from all the iPhones, iTouchs and iPads.

I have read of others having had this button dissapear. Apparently if you totally shut the pad down and reboot it will then reappear.
Hope that helps

  • I have airplay button but it won't work from imac to ATV. Phones are a-go however...

    Current household setup:
-most recent imac that didn't get lyposuction. Not upgraded to 10.7.5. Currently sitting at OS update one before that.
    -2x Iphone 4S
-Apple TV, most recent model, updated to latest update.
    -Linksys 2600E wireless router
So currently, I can airplay and mirror from both iphones to the Apple TV with zero issues. Music streaming, youtube mirroring and browsing all works flawlessly. However, when I attempt to stream a .mp4 movie from itunes to the apple TV by either playing it on the imac OR playing it from the Apple TV it fails.
Everything worked perfectly until I updated the Apple TV to 5.1. The moment that update went through, it "broke" airplay between the imac and ATV. Now, in iTunes I still have the airplay icon and it's clickable to select Apple TV for streaming, but when it begins, it just sort of hangs then eventually times out.
I've managed to get it to work briefly (for 20 minutes) by changing some router settings, but nothing permanent.  From memory (I'm currently at work) the settings on my router are as follows:
    -WPA, non hidden SSID
    -MAC Address filtering OFF
-2.4GHZ on 20hz only (as suggested by apple support page)
    -5ghz on 20 to 40
-Port forwarded the following ports, now this is from memory so may not be 100% - 123, 3689, 5353  http://http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2463
-the band or channel signal is set to Auto for both.
These are the settings as recommended by Apple and it still doesn't work. I think that the 5.1+ update screwed with some wifi settings in the ATV airplay fuctionality but I'm pretty confused about everything. How come it works via iphones, but not from the imac? (which is also on wifi)
My iphone, iMac and Apple TV have the same home share account logged in, all on the same WIFI network, through the same router. It's odd.
If anyone has suggestions or answers, I'd be thrilled to try them out or look into them further.
    Regards;
    -T3sk0

Try restarting all devices including portable  iOS ones and your router.
Check Airplay is not disabled in AppleTVs settings.

My airplay button no longer will show up on any of my devices. I have the new Ipad, Iphone 4s, Ipod touch, and macbook pro. Every device is on the same wifi network and the network is secure and 100% strong. Plug it into the charger/wall socket and let it charge for at least an hour. It just might start charging. If you have already tried charging it for a fair amount of time and it didn't work, try restoring the device with iTunes.

  • I see the airplay button in my recently used app bar but when I try to turn on mirroring from the apple tv button instead of ipad theres no extra bar that comes down.( mirroring wont work)

    my mirroiring wont work!

    Winston, thank you...
A new Apple TV: and everything as 'amazing' as expected...
But do you think I could intuitively find a way to Mirror my iPhone 4s screen to my TV.
    No...
AirPlay of Music and Photos was instinctive,
but mirroring: simple when you know.
Should have looked in the iPhone User Guide, under AirPlay.
"as you say, double click the home button, swipe twice to the left to reveal the AirPlay
    button, Select Apple TV"
    Thanks, Robert.

i recently have been problem with my AppleTV. I select the AirPlay button on my ipad3 and select AppleTV below my iPad selection. The tablet thinks for a little bit, about 5 seconds, and then gives up, deselecting the AppleTV button and refreshing automatically to display on my tablet. My spouse has the same issue at the same time with her ipad air. All software is up to date and re verified wifi. The AppleTV can still stream from its internal apps. Seems like the only problem is AirPlay.
any ideas to fix this problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • AirPlay mirroring from Apple devices to Apple TV not working

Hello, I just bought a Apple TV (3rd gen) the other day. I updated it to the newest firmware, but I still cant use AirPlay. I have a Macbook Pro (mid 2012) on mountain lion, a iPad 2 (ios 6.0.1), and a iTouch 4th gen (6.0.1), but I cant seem to get airplay to work on any of them. All devices are on the same wifi and airplay was turned on the ATV. On my macbook, I would go into System Prefs/displays, but would be told that no devices were detected for airplay. I have double clicked the home button on my iDevices and scroll to the left looking for the airplay button button, but nothing. I even turned on homesharing on all devices (to see if that would do anything for airplay), and made sure all devices were running the latest os. Does anyone have an idea on how I can resolve this problem?

Sorry, with my limited experience with Apple TV, I think I'm out of suggestions.

  • Where is the Airplay button in iTunes 11.1 for Windows 7?

I have 2 Airport Express to play iTunes through 2 stereo receivers around the house along with computer speakers. Both Airports are available seperately through iPhone4 and iPad4 which I upgraded to iOS7, but previously I could play to both and the computer from iTunes using the blue Airplay button which is missing now and I can only talk to 1 Airport device from each mobile device and the computer seperately. iOS7 control panel on both phone & pad work fine but only to a single Airport, not both simultaneously. I need the button back in iTunes but I can`t find it!

Upgraded to iTunes 11.1 and lost my Airplay icon and connection to Remote app on iPhone 5.  Fixed by adjusting settings in Windows 7 firewall.
    1. Go to search box in Start button and type in "firewall."
    2. Click on "Allow a program through Windows Firewall"
    3. Click on "Change Settings"
    4. Make sure both Bonjour Service and iTunes are in the allowed programs and features list.  If not click on "Allow another program" to add them.
    5. Make sure both the tick boxes for the columns "Home/Work (Private) and Public" are ticked.
Finally fixed me after several hours of trying a variety of things suggested in multiple other postings.

  • In the latest iOS updates, did Apple change the way Airplay communicate with other devices through Wifi?

    Short :
In the latest iOS updates, did Apple change the way Airplay communicate with other devices through Wifi?
    Detailed:
We had a glitch with our Apple TV 3A 3-4 weeks ago and had to factory reset it (we reconfigured it with the exact same configuration than before the crash), it's now running iOS 7.0.2, I can't saw which version it ran before the problem though.
It's used in a business environment with 30+ iPads 2, half of them are updated to 8.1.1 and the other half to 8.1.2. We use the latest iTunes version.
Before the glitch that required a reset, all the iPads were detecting and mirroring when needed to the Apple TV, but now the iPads don't see the Apple TV in their list of Airplay devices anymore (but they detect various other devices inside our network).
I have to add that our Apple TV is able to navigate the movie store correctly, so I assume that it's not an internet restriction issue from our end (also, the APple TV do not see either any of the many iPads on its device-detection screen.
We successfully connected an iPhone 5S and an iPhone 6 through P2P Airplay, so it's not the issue, but when we connected the iPhones to our Wifi network (Same as all the other devices are using) the Apple TV suddenly disappeared from the choices.
Hence the reason why I inquire to the possibility that some changes were made in one of the latest iOS revisions, if so, we would require some details so we can adjust our Wifi configuration accordingly to allow the proper detection of devices.
P.S. I tried the basic troubleshooting of Airplay problems with no avail. Airplay button is displaying on the control panel, Airplay do not show the Apple TV at all (so it's not either the trick to display the Mirroring button), we also already proceeded to the suggested devices reboots, so my issue is quite more complex I believe.
    Thanks in advance.

I Have the same issue on a brand new iPad mini 2. My battery is only lasting up to 5 hours. I went on chat with Apple last night and they said my battery is fine and its a Safari issue. I'm literally losing 1% every 3-4 minutes. I tried recalibrating my battery, signing out of iCloud, shutting off all locations, turning off background app refresh, restoring network settings, restoring all, and finally restoring from iTunes with no luck. This is just awful. I got this iPad so I could use it on my long flight for a trip I have coming up, and unfortunately, it's not going to last that long, plus I'm concerned about how many times i will be recharging my battery because of this since battery's do have a life cycle dependent on the number of charges. This is frustrating and needs to be fixed ASAP and addressed by Apple.
By the way, Apple told me to bring my device to the Apple Store because it's still under warranty. That's great and all, but I'm going to waste my time if there is no fix for this issue.
Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.

  • AirPlay button not appearing even after reboot

I recently updated my iPhone 3Gs 32GB to iOS 4.2.1 and found no AirPlay button. I read a thread about rebooting your iPhone once, but that didn't fix the problem either. Even after rebooting the device, I still can't see any AirPlay button. Any help?

  • Airplay button gone from itunes

I have an apple tv 3rd gen running software 6.0 and I have lost my airplay button on itunes software 11.1 a couple of days ago. I can air play from my iphone 4s and my ipad 3rd gen both running ios 7 but not from my windows 7 pc. All devices are on the same network and show up in my router under devices. I have restarted my computer, apple tv, and router to see if this fixes my problem with no luck. Has anyone run in to this and/or have suggestions?

I'm not sure what fixed mine, but I did the following:
Uninstalled all itunes software (inc. bonjour, apple mobile device, etc)
    Restart computer
    Install itunes again
    Restart computer
    Airplay was still not there
Switched back and forth to mini player a couple times.
Airplay icon returned to the main player.
I tried the mini player several times before uninstalling itunes, and it didn't work.
