Airplay by Mountain lion

Dear Sir/Madam,
I use my Mac Book air (mid 2011), with my 2nd gen Apple TV and 1st gen Airport express. When I turn on airplay from my MacBook Air, it is automatically display on Apple TV. It is very nice. However, when I play for a while (about 30 minites) it has some lagging problem and it switch off from Airplay automatically. Does someone have the same problem as me? How do you solve this problem? I do not know which one I have to start first to diagnose.
Your reply and your kind suggestion will be highly appreciated,
Best Regards,
Nattawut

Hello and welcome. I assume you are using WiFi to connect Apple TV to your router. Apple TV is smart enough to connect at the highest speed possible, but many older routers only transmit at the slowest speed. I suggest you try setting your WiFi to enable N wireless which is 5Ghz and so much faster than 2.4Ghz. Also may work better in case of stone/plaster walls or neighborhood interference. How you configure your router is an exercise for yourself to figure out, because each one is different and you didn't say which it is.  I might add that an ethernet cable would solve your problem permanently.

Not from Apple.  However, check out http://airparrot.com as they make a product to enable the function on 10.6.8 and Lion.

Thanks for wasting my $20 Apple this feature was one of the main reasons I bought this upgrade.  Why would older Macs be excluded???
Older Macs are not in Apple's view sufficiently capable of compressing the display frames to stream to AppleTV in real time.

  • Will Airplay via Mountain Lion work on 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (mid 2007)  iMac

One of the main reasons I would purchase OS X Moutain Lion is for its AirPlay feature, in particular to stream Hulu from my iMac to my Apple TV 2.  In reading some of the preliminary reviews of Moutain Lion, AirPlay is not supported on older MacBook Pro's.  Will it work on my mid 2007 iMac (model identifier: iMac7,1) running a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM?
    I'm currently running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53).
    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Potential Problems with Airplay and Mountain Lion

    Hey Everyone,
I recently purchased an Apple TV, and I tried to use Airplay with our Macbook Pros. Airplay would work with all of the iOS Devices, but when it came to using with the MBP, it would either show a black screen, or a frozen image of my screen. I called AppleCare, and the rep told me it was a problem with the AppleTV, so I returned it and bought a new one, and it did the same thing. I found out that the problem was occuring because of the type of router I was using. I have a dualband router, and I set everything on one band of the router. I decided to try to place the laptops on a different band, and that's all it took. My airplay now works flawlessly.
So, if you're having a problem with airplay, and you have a dualband router, try placing your computer & iOS devices on the opposite band, and it should work perfectly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why my iMac doesn't work in Airplay with Mountain Lion?

I am very disappointed because I have a very powerful iMac with 8GB of RAM, a AppleTV2, and I can't use them in AirPlay.
Apple has chosen to not run Airplay on an "old" iMac for not risk a failure .. it is a shame.. they must let me try to work with it..
if not working properly, iMac may automatically disable this function

Reports on other web sites are indicating that AirPlay mirroring, presuming that's what you are referring to, requires Intel's QuickSync hardware compression, something that is not present in older Macs. If that's correct, then it's not by Apple's whim and there will be no way it will ever come to your older system. Third-party options for your system include:

  • ATV2 Mountain Lion Airplay Lag

I have a MBP 2011 running Mountain Lion now and I was looking to stream video from it to the ATV2 we have in our living room however the mirroring is show dabilitating lag. For my router I am using an Apple Time Campsule with 2TB drive I tried using the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz signals with the 5 GHz showing slight improvement. When mirrioring is set up there is a major latency for any action, often around a full second for every action. Movies are unwatatchable, they continuously stutter, dropping up to 6 seconds per scene. When trying to stream nothing else was connected to the router. The router is up one floor in our house where the cable comes in but I don't know if that causes that much of a delay. I was wondering if there was any way to fix this. I was even thinking about buying an airport express and wire it to the Apple TV but I wanted to make sure this would fix it before I sink the money into it.

I have the  ATV3, but have the same issue while using Airplay with Mountain Lion; though probably a little less lag than what you described. Switching my Airport to 5GHz made no difference from the 2.4 GHz. Once I ran a direct ethernet cable straight from the iMac into ATV it ran perfect. However, I had to move the computer downstairs to do it. That kind of defeated the point of Airplay. Good luck.

  • Mountain Lion Airplay feature is False Advertising

    Here's my note to Apple:
After a frustrating 2 hour call on why airplay in Mountain Lion did not work properly  - see transcript of case # 356682008 - i was told to connect via ethernet cable to identify the issue. Ethernet Cable - in my household they went the way of dinosaurs as the one feature that made me upgrade to mountain lion was the ability to use airplay wirelessly - without having to connect the $60 Apple cable to my HDTV anymore. I do not even know the last time I had an ethernet cabe in my hands.
The fact that nowhere in your literature as of this morning requested an ethernet cable as part of the specification for use of the features of Mountain Lion basically equates to false advertising - either that or the MacBook Pro you sold me lack some of the functions that you were supposed to provide - I would like to know how are you going to fix this situation that does not require me to waste any more of my billable time with you.
    <Edited by Host>

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays
At the bottom of this window should be an AirPlay Mirroring drop down list that should display your AppleTV.
If your AppleTV does not display here, then it is either disconnected from the network, or your MBP is connected to a different network than your AppleTV.  It sounds like you potentially have two networks available to you (the Motorola and the Linksys).  Both devices must be on the same network.
If your AppleTV is listed, but you are still not able to Mirror your display to your HDTV, check the resolution settings for the external display (AppleTV).  An AppleTV2 can only display to 720p (or 1280x720).  If you are attempting to force a higher resolution (1080p / 1920x1080), then the AppleTV is receiving an "unrecognized/invalid signal" and will not display.

  • Airplay On 2011 MBP to ATV2 sends video but no audio using mountain lion

    Hey peeps,
Watching a video on VLC and using airplay on mountain lion I have mirrored it to my TV and that its working fine except the audio is still coming out of MBP not the TV. I click on system preferences > Sound and it says the apple TV is selected as my device for sound output but the sound is only coming out of my speakers on the MBP.
Any ideas because this is driving me crazy, I was so looking forward to mirroring films rather then converting them for itunes.
    Cheers in advance

I have just got the same problem today when I changed the airplay mirror for a while. I dind't find anything about on the internet so i tried by myself and it worked just fine. The solution is very simple:
    1 - Go to VLC
2 - On option of VLC go to Audio, than audio devices
    3 - Change to airplay

How do I use the AirPlay Mirroing on my mac with Mountain Lion ?
I watched the video about Mountain Lion, but the airplay icon can't appear on my menu bar.

    i have a MacBook Air (Early 2011)
and it doesn't support the airplay mirroring ,,, the only things that the failed to do is  " MENTION IT "
it wouldn't hurt anyone if they just say it's limited to Late macs ,,,, i really wanted that feature and i updated my mac so i can watch movies on my HD screen ,,,,
i hope they made and update for it ,,, otherwise i have to wait another 4 months to get a new macbook pro

  • Why is it not possible to use airplay mirroring on earlier macbook pro models with Mountain Lion?

I know there are questions alike mine, but if anybody knows some new information on this, please let us know.
I've been looking forward to this release of the OSX, especially the built in AirPlay mirroring function for the Mac Pro, which I've been missing ever since I bought the Apple TV.
Now finally when I went to download Mountain Lion, I accidentally search google, and find out that AirPlay mirroring is only supported on early 2011 Mac Pro and later?
What are the earlier users going to do? I have an early 2009 model of the Mac Pro, and I just wan't to know if I'll be able to utilize the new AirPlay mirroring function or not, which determines whether or not I'm going to upgrade my OSX version
Hope someone's got news on this one.
    Best regards, Thomas
