AirPlay disappearing - WiFi or ethernet?

Hi
This seems to be quite a common issue.
My AirPlay keeps disappearing on my iOS devices and Mac Air. I read somewhere that the router might be the problem. Currently I have a slightly old netgear WNR612v2 router (2.4 GHz only). AirPlay mirroring and music streaming works fine for about a day but then it disappears. Then I have to reboot my router and everything works fine again. My router and APTV3 stand in different rooms with ONE wall between them and APTV3 currently connects wirelessly like all of my other devices.
So my question is whether it would help if I plugged in my APTV3 with an ethernet cable instead of connecting it wirelessly. Or should I upgrade my router to a AirPort express - or could I risk the problem happening again?!
Hope someone can help me so I know what to buy!
Best regards
Søren Bjerg, Denmark

Hey there sbjerg,
It sounds like your Airplay is not consistently workingafter a day or so. Using an ethernet cable is is in general faster and more consistant than a Wi-Fi connection and is always a good isolation step. I would recommend setting up the Wi-Fi router with the recommended settings from the following article:
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
It is possible that interference could be affecting the connection as well. Take a look at the information in this article as well for help with determing if that may be the case:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,

  • I can't connect to Internet anymore (WIFI or Ethernet). This was working perfectly before. I don't get a proper IP address from my ADSL box and it seems there is a DNS error when accessing the Internet.

I have an issue with my MacBook pro (MAC OS X 10.8.3) when trying to access Internet. I am behind an ADSL box (Orange). I have a PC on the same LAN which accesses Internet perfectly via the same Box.
On the MAC, I have tried WIFI and Ethernet. And have same issue on both. I have checked the IP address (the ADSL box is a DHCP server) but the MAC doesn't get a proper IP and network mask I tried a manual IP address setup and it doesn't get better. I have setup the DNS servers for my Internet provider, but I get DNS error. I have tried 2 Internet browsers (Chrome and Safari), both have the same issue.
I tried to put my MAC on a different ADSL box (I have 2 acccesses with 2 providers at home) and get the same issue.
I also noticed a havy CPU load on the mDNSResponder process (at least 30%). I have restarted it, but no improvement.
Last, I have repared the permissions.
From those trials, it seems that the problem is on the Mac side. But I am completelly without any new idea, so I need help
    Thanks

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Hi Manu,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that the LAN and Wireless is not working as expected after updating to Windows 8.1, normally to avoid compatibility issue all the drivers should be updated when the computer is in Windows 8. Hence, I suggest you to perform “System Restore” and the follow the update procedure. Below is the link to perform “System Restore” then a link with exact Windows 8.1 upgrade procedure.

  • Can't use private wifi or ethernet but Wifi with F...

    Hi
We've had a Homehub3 for two years now with no problems.  Last week there was a day's electricity power down locally for maintenance and when the power came back on the internet connection was broken.  No wifi or ethernet worked but I could connect fine through all our devices via wifi with FON.
As background at home we have iphones, ipads, macbook and pc laptops connected to the wifi as well as PVR, Xbox and powerline routers plugged in to the ethernet, plus an ethernet cable to connect to laptops where required (for scenarios like this).
BT spent an hour and a half with me trying to resolve this before sending me a replacement Homehub 3.  We received this yesterday, plugged it in and connected the various wifi devices.  The situation is almost the same except one ipad does connect directly through the private wifi network (the other doesn't), and one iphone also does (again, the other doesn't).  Nothing works through ethernet, but again, everything works via wifi with FON.
Obviously we've done lots of rebooting and resetting of hubs and equipment (with delay time before turning back on) but to no avail.
Any suggestions would be widely appreciated but please be aware I'm not particularly technical and a bit of a numpty so basic guidance would be a big help.
    Thanks
    Jules
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for the response.
I did the pin in the back/factory reset four times with no joy on the previous hub and deleted all connections.  I can give it a try with the new hub that has arrived to see if that makes a difference but as it's a totally different and new hub I don't think that will make a difference as all of the connections were new anyway.
Ethernet made no difference in the past after this.  I can try a different cable but the other ethernet cables that connect the Xbox and PVR aren't working either so I don't think the issue is isolated to the cable.
I haven't reset the powerline hubs so can look into that.
I'll try all of the suggestions after work later and post back but as they're all things I've tried and we've got a brand new hub I'm not confident it will make a difference so any alternative suggestions I can try are also very welcome.
    Thanks

  • MB Air cannot see TC 1T '09 while connected via WiFi and Ethernet.

I have a TC 1T 2009 7.4.1 that I have set up successfully with MB Pro and MB White. However I cannot set it up with MB Air v.1 which is connected to TC via WiFi AND Ethernet cable. Internet is fine (Safari) but no TM - when I run APU 5.4.1 it cannot discover the TC it is connected to.
I tried connecting after hard-reset (poke/power on), it would see the TM but then hang forever reading the configuration. So I set it up with MB Pro and MB White and both are now working fine with TC/TM. Then I tried MB Air and it failed.
The TC is connected via ethernet to Sagem router (bridged mode) which supplies WAN and DHCP, it has its own WiFi as well.

And by the way, Hi Everyone, how rude of me not to greet you in the post.
    Thanks for any help!

  • How can I troubleshoot Internet Sharing (wifi to ethernet)?

    Hi hi everyone!
Any idea how to troubleshoot wifi/ethernet Internet Sharing? I use to network a media player (like an AppleTV not made by Apple) and recently it stopped working. Luckily I have two macs in the house to shoot the troubles.
I have an iMac running Leopard 10.5.5 and a Powerbook running Tiger.
I have tried sharing both ways (imac wifi » powerbook ethernet and powerbook wiki » imac ethernet) but am only able to get an IP from the DHCP server (Airport Extreme N base station). I am not able to get on the web (google search, etc).
Where can I look to see what's not working?

    Hi Ryan Feeley-
Anything useful in this link: Mac OS X: Connect to the Internet, troubleshoot your Internet connection, and set up a small network ?

  • After upgrade to Yosemite my MacBook Air does not switch automaticly from wifi to ethernet. How to sloven problem?

After upgrade to Yosemite my MacBook Air does not switch automaticly from wifi to ethernet. How to sloven problem?

Have you tried changing the order in Network Preferences pane?
Open System Preferences/Networks/Click the gear symbol under the service list. Select set service order then drag. If your wifi is above the ethernet move the ethernet to the top. Click ok. Click apply (bottom left) and test.
    Hope this helps

  • AirPlay and WiFi

I am confused about AirPlay vs Wifi.
    Example,
I have an iPhone 5, an Apple TV connected to my HDTV, and both of them (iPhone 5 and Apple TV) are connected to my home wifi network.
Now, I understand that I can mirror or stream my iPhone 5 contents (such as video, pictures, music, etc.) to my Apple TV and watch them on my HDTV.
Now, who does the job of mirroring from my iPhone 5 to my HDTV? The AirPlay? The Apple TV? The Wifi? Or all of them?  Can a simple video streaming, can be done just with wifi without using the AirPlay?
Can you please give me some examples?
    Thank youuuuuu

AirPlay is the application protocol that allows music and video to be streamed over your IP network (LAN).  It doesn't know or care whether the data is going over WiFi, Cat5 wire, or whatever, as long as there's a sender and a receiver.
In this case your iPhone (the sender) detects your AppleTV (the receiver) and allows you to mirror video or play audio to it.  The streamed data is carried over WiFi from your iPhone to your WiFi bridge or router, and from there to the AppleTV via its WiFi or wired LAN connection.  The AppleTV receives the streamed data and renders it as HDTV video and/or digital audio.

  • Imac will not connect to Internet via wifi or Ethernet since upgrade.

since the upgrade to Yosemite I am unable to connect to the Internet via wifi or Ethernet. All my other devices ipad/IPhone 6 work fine so issue is not with ISP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I Have tried starting in safe mode and my internet works fine. But I lose all connectivity after reboot into normal mode.

  • ATV 3 airplay disappears when on 5g

Hello.  For some reason my ATV3 will disappear from my network after about 15 minutes when it is connected to my wireless router on 5ghz band.  on 2.4 it stays and there are no issues, but i would love to use the 5g as it is apparently better for HD streaming.  The ATV itself works fine even when my iphone or ipad2 cannot see it (ie. airplay disappears).  It will stream netflix without issue, but I cannot airplay anything to it.
I can make it reappear if I unplug the ATV or reboot the router, but the issue will recur..  My router is an ASUS Rt-n56u.
I would really appreciate some help with this.
    Thanks.

I'm guessing there's something interfering with the 5Ghz band. You could go to your router and change the channel until you find one that works.

  • Any fix yet for wifi and ethernet disconnect?

Running a 17" MacBook Pro with intel. NEVER had a problem with internet connection through wifi or ethernet. Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and was dropping internet connection every 20 minutes or so. All other household devices worked fine including iPad, iPhone and other Mac laptop. Reinstalled Snow Leopard and problem is gone. Either give me a fix or return my $30.00.  I am very disappointed. Faulty operating systems are the reason I left Microsoft 5 years ago. C'mon guys, APPLE is better then that!

I appreciate your quick response. I was hoping for an Apple update before taking the time to reinstall Lion, try a few things and if unsuccessful, reinstall Snow Leopard again. My laptop is pretty much useless to me without reliable Internet connection. Thank you for the tip, I'll try it when I have some down time.

  • Windows 10 no internet via wifi nor ethernet

My Elitebook 755 G2 is a great computer i never had a problem since now, i wanted to upgrade to windows 10, the process is simple, i did it well 4 times, why 4 times?, simple the first time i discover that the computer had no internet access via wifi nor ethernet, then i do a recovery to windows 8.1 to read about the issue, i reupgraded the computer and do troubleshooting of the issue with 4 different solutions but nothing happened, then i returned to windows 8.1 again, i read more about the drivers, so i used the HP Support Assistant and check that there was a bluetooth, wifi and Bios update, i do it and returned to windows 10 and the same issue again, i deleted the driver completely and reinstalled and the network does not work neather, so please, you can help me to figure out what is the real issue here, seems to be more than the driver, on windows 8.1 the drivers works perfectly, the wifi and ethernet models are: Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 2x2 Wi-Fi AdapterRealtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

    Ndmt05,
For most devices, using the latest Windows 8.1 drivers seems to work.
However, after taking a look at your laptop on the Acer website, it appears that there aren’t any Windows 8.1 drivers available.
One option may be to use the available Windows 7 driver and install it though compatibility mode.
There’s no guarantee that it will work but it’s worth a try.
Keep in mind you’ll want to use the appropriate 32 or 64 bit driver.
    Hope this helps!

  • Let applications choose between WiFi and Ethernet

    Hi Forum,
So basicly I'm connected to a secure ethernet line with limitations, besides that I'm also connected to wifi with no limitations.
I want to let apps choose between wifi and ethernet, is there any way to do so ?

(A repost of something I posted elsewhere - trying to help others)
If it helps you at least a little, in the Podcast App, playlists are now called "My Stations". You can add entire podcasts to Stations (and create new Stations), or you can add individual episodes to the "on-The-Go" station.
Not intuitive, and not as good as having the podcasts back with the music, but it gets the job done till Apple listens to the users again and changes this back.
    Cheers!

  • Sync Two iPads With No Wifi or Ethernet?

I have to sync two iPads in a room with no wifi or ethernet connection. Can it be done? (Or an iPad and an iPod?)
A friend told me I can do it with an AirPort base station, and he said I wouldn't need an Internet signal.
Maybe this is a question for an AirPort forum.
What I am wanting to do can be described in the first minute or so of this video: http://www.sunshinevalleysystems.com/PrompterPal_Video_iOSRemote.html
    Thanks!

Is this a copy of XP that came with his computer? If so, that would be your problem. You need a retail copy to get the full benefits of Windows. OEM discs are designed to only work correctly with the computer they shipped with.
