Airplay disappearing

I am using a new macbook air and apple TV. Very frequent the air play function on the macbook is disappearing. All the software both on macbook and apple tv is up to date. I have been connecting to apple tv, however the problem is that the airplay logo is disappearing sometimes during connecting to apple tv. In the system preferences airplay options are greyed out due to no device can be found. The devices are on the same wifi signal. Sometimes rebooting helps, the functions is just not reliable.
Any suggestions how to solve this?

Hey there sbjerg,
It sounds like your Airplay is not consistently workingafter a day or so. Using an ethernet cable is is in general faster and more consistant than a Wi-Fi connection and is always a good isolation step. I would recommend setting up the Wi-Fi router with the recommended settings from the following article:
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
It is possible that interference could be affecting the connection as well. Take a look at the information in this article as well for help with determing if that may be the case:

  • ATV 3 airplay disappears when on 5g

Hello.  For some reason my ATV3 will disappear from my network after about 15 minutes when it is connected to my wireless router on 5ghz band.  on 2.4 it stays and there are no issues, but i would love to use the 5g as it is apparently better for HD streaming.  The ATV itself works fine even when my iphone or ipad2 cannot see it (ie. airplay disappears).  It will stream netflix without issue, but I cannot airplay anything to it.
I can make it reappear if I unplug the ATV or reboot the router, but the issue will recur..  My router is an ASUS Rt-n56u.
I would really appreciate some help with this.
    Thanks.

I'm guessing there's something interfering with the 5Ghz band. You could go to your router and change the channel until you find one that works.

  • AirPlay disappearing - WiFi or ethernet?

    Hi
This seems to be quite a common issue.
My AirPlay keeps disappearing on my iOS devices and Mac Air. I read somewhere that the router might be the problem. Currently I have a slightly old netgear WNR612v2 router (2.4 GHz only). AirPlay mirroring and music streaming works fine for about a day but then it disappears. Then I have to reboot my router and everything works fine again. My router and APTV3 stand in different rooms with ONE wall between them and APTV3 currently connects wirelessly like all of my other devices.
So my question is whether it would help if I plugged in my APTV3 with an ethernet cable instead of connecting it wirelessly. Or should I upgrade my router to a AirPort express - or could I risk the problem happening again?!
Hope someone can help me so I know what to buy!
    Best regards

  • Airplay disappeared off my iphone 6

I'm using ios 8.3 on my iphone 6 and airplay has ceased functioning.  Airplay doesn't even appear in the control panel when I drag it up from the bottom of the screen.  I do a search for 'airplay' on the phone and it finds nothing except internet sites I can go to.  The phone used to be able to connect fairly easily to a Bose bluetooth speaker; my iTV box and my Marantz AV receiver.  What happened?  I've rebooted the phone many times.  I can still play bluetooth audio from my phone on my car stereo (and phone calls and texts, etc) but that's bluetooth;  where's my airplay?

Reboot your router, Apple TV, Marantz and iPhone and try again.

  • Why did my AirPlay disappear from my iphone and macbook when trying to stream to Apple TV?

I have the newest gen Apple TV.  I got it mainly to airplay from and mirror from my ios devices, and macbook.  I soon learned that mirroring was not available as the have the last gen macbook, but that i could airplay using home sharing for everything in my itunes library including directly from my iphone running 6.0.1. I was enjoying that function most of all and then all of a sudden, it's just gone.  The AirPlay icon is gone from my phone, and my apple tv no longer reads my macbook running latest version of mtn lion.
On the Apple TV, it keeps telling me to turn home sharing on, which it already is.
My Apple Tv is running the latest version.  I have the latest version of mtn lion, as well as ios6.  I am on the same network on all devices - did a test - test came back positive the tv is able to run apps successfully.  Reset all devices, restarted all devices.
Is there a fix for this?  There should be no reason why it's not functioning.  Please help.

    A guess:
Put your mouse on the word RECENT in the left hand pane. Then when the word 'Show' appears, click on it.

BTW, it changing the wi-fi channel is necesary please explain how to do so.
It's not necessary, but is a good troubleshooting step.  How to do so varies from brand to brand.  Look at the manufacturers website, they should have a manual available that explains how to access the settings and change it.

The ATV connected to the routher via wi-fi , but both sitting on the same shelf.
In that case, I would strongly encourage you to connect them via a short Ethernet cable.  The proximity of the two devices could be the culprit in the video quality issues.

  • Conflict between Bonjour service and Airplay!!

Airplay seems to dissappear, seemingly at random, on my Denon 2312ci AVR connected to my LAN through Netgear WNDR3800.  I also have an iPhone and an iPad.
However, I have found a pattern and a possible sorce of the problem.
If the AVR is initialized on the LAN after Bonjour has started up on my Windows 7 PC, then everything works as it is supposed to.  The AVR initialization can be done by switching to or from DHCP on the AVR.  It doesn't matter.  Airplay is available in iTunes, and on my iOS devices.
However, if Bonjour is started after the AVR is on the LAN, like if I reboot my PC, then Airplay disappears from all 3 (iTunes and my 2 iOS devices)!!  The AVR is on the LAN, can be pinged, can be controlled via the browser on the PC, can stream internet radio and from my media server on the LAN.  If I stop the Bonjour service on the PC, Airplay reappears on my iOS devices (but not iTunes, which depends on Bonjour).
Uninstalling iTunes and Bonjour and reinstalling from the latest download from Apple does not help.  As soon as Bonjour loads on my PC,and the AVR is already on the LAN from before, Airplay on the AVR gets disabled!!  If I stop Bonjour manually or shutdown my PC, Airplay shows up on my iPhone and iPad.
My solution now: I have changed Bonjour to not load up automatically. Now, Airplay is available on my iOS devices (except iTunes).  When I need to run iTunes, I start Bonjour manually, run iTunes.  Airplay is disabled during this time.  When I'm done with iTunes, I close iTunes and shut down Bonjour.  Airplay is now available on my iOS devices.
It is a kludge, but it is a workaround.
I googled Netgear and Airplay and someone suggested setting the RIP direction to "Both" and RIP version to "RIP_1" but that has not fixed the problem.
Anyway, I am at my wits end.  Bonjour (and Airplay) is happy if the AVR is initialized on the LAN while Bonjour is running.  How do I make Bonjour cooperate with my 2312ci when the AVR is already initialized on the LAN and Bonjour starts up?
    Aloke

I have recently had the Airplay disappearing problem with a Pioneer SCLX56 AV Amp. I tried disabling the Bojour Print Services on my Windows 8 machine and magically the airplay icon for the amp reappears.
The funny thing is that I have 3 airplay destinations, an airport express, apple tv and the amp and only the amp disappears when I turn on Bonjour on the computer, so it suggests to me that Apple's implimentation of Airplay on their devices is different to the implimentation used by 3rd party manufacturers.
Thanks to you all for starting this thread and following the problem through - it's saved a lot of diagnosis.

  • AirPlay does not show in Control Center

    iOS 8.2 (12D508)
    iPhone 6
Somehow Airplay disappeared from Control Center on my iPhone while I was using it for the first time.  I *think* it disappeared sometime after I selected 'iPhone' as the device, but I could be wrong.  Now I only see AirDrop on the Control Center screen all by itself.
I also don't see the AirPlay icon when I click on the 'Share' icon during playback of photos, videos, music, etc anymore.
Does anybody know what might have happened?
How do I get the AirPlay option back?
I tried turning off my phone & back on again, but it didn't make anything better.  I also deleted the 'Remote' app & re-installed it, setting up Home Sharing on the phone again.  No luck.
My phone is also connected to the same wi-fi internet signal that my Apple TV and my MacBook are connected to.  It's a 5 GHz password-protected signal.

Ha ha...  The Apple TV lost power, that's all.  I accidentally plugged it into a switched outlet, so when my wife turned out the lights... the party ended.

Is Settings > WiFi = "On"?
AirPlay only appears when you have WiFi on.

  • The airplay icon has disappeared from my desk top. It was there two weeks ago, so I can't watch movies I've downloaded from iTunes and flick them over to my TV.

The airplay icon has disappeared from my MAC desktop. It was there two weeks ago when I successfully used it to 'flick a movie i had purchased from iTunes over to my tv. Also, if I rent the movie through iTunes, why (because of the above issue) when I go to 'Purchased' it doesn't display as an option when actually using Apple TV, it doesn't display but when I go to rent it again a message comes up saying "you have already rented this movie, do you want to rent it again"? Frustrated!!

Ok Fellas, let me give you a clue:  Games, particularly those that make heavy use of graphics and sound are notoriously power hungry.  In fact, when I was in the Navy many years ago, the folks working on the NTDS (Navy Tactical Data System)  computers used a version of Space Invaders to load test the AN/UYK-43 computers.
I have also noticed that all of my laptops (I have a brand new Toshiba dual core, an older Toshiba single core, plus 2 Dell dual core machines) have significantly shorter battery life when I play Company of Heroes than when I am just reading e-mail or surfing the 'Net.  I have also noticed the same behavior when I play games on my 4th gen Touch and my iPhone 4.
The fact is, iOS 5 did make some major improvements as well as adding some nice functionality like iMessage, wireless synch, and such, but the down side is that depending on how you use the device battery life can be shorter that what you may have experienced with pervious versions of iOS.  Its just the nature of the beast...
