  • Trouble using AirPlay between iMac and AppleTV

I'm running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I'm having trouble using AirPlay between iMac and AppleTV (2nd Gen).  It used to work fine, but for some reason it just stopped responding.  I can see my media on my iMac from AppleTV and I can see AppleTV from my iMac when attempting to use AirPlay.  However, when I try to pull or push media from my iMac to AppleTV it just stalls and never loads.  AirPlay works fine from my iPhone and iPad with AppleTV - it's limited to my iMac only.
I'm using a Netgear R7000 wireless router and a Netgear AC120 WiFi Extender and as such, I have 4 available wireless networks (2 from the router and 2 from the extender / 2 - 2.4 GHz and 2 - 5 GHz).  My internet access is great and my network performance is good across the board.  All of my software/firmware is up to date (iMac, AppleTV and router/extenders). I've tried all combinations (mixing/matching) all of my wireless networks between devices (iMac/AppleTV) - nothing makes a difference (again, AirPlay works fine between my mobile devises/AppleTV).  Netgear Genie has been making changes to my network settings as new firmware has been installed in both the router and extender.  I'm guessing there is something screwy going on with the network settings on the iMac, but I can't figure it out.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I'm glad you got it all working. Out of interest, how do you (or your son) connect to the internet now? Is it just a dial-up connection? If it is, I am sure you know that, even if you get the Apple TV to share the connection, the speed will seriously limit the use of many of the Apple TV's features.
The Airport Extreme is a great router but you will need a DSL or cable modem as well as it won't connect to the internet without one. There are many great (and cheaper!) combined modem/routers available if your son wants to get a high-speed network up and running at lower cost. Any other computers, phones, games consoles etc that you may have in the house can then all connect easily.
I hope that I have helped a little and I will look out for future posts in case I can help again.

  • Airplay in Imac "2010"

Why Apple doesn't support airplay for IMac bult latter than 2011. I download Moutain lion and no airplay, I have to buy a addon AirParrot to us it on airplay,
I feel cheated by This upgrade that doesn't support my hardware. Hmmmmm.

We are users, so we don't know why Apple doesn't support iMacs older than 2011. However, I remember that someone said that processors included in the Mid 2011 and later iMac have got a component that allows them to support this type of task, but other applications like AirParrot can mirror your iMac display to an Apple TV without any problem

  • AirPlay Vs. iMac

Ok, so it would appear that AirPlay will only work on Macs that are running Mountain Lion and were built in mid 2011.  I can't get AirPlay to work on my iMac, but I'm not sure of its born date.  How can I tell when my computer was made?

  • No Video Airplay von iMAC with iTunes

Airplay on AppleTV2 works good with iPad (Video & Musik), but from iTunes (iMac Lion) only with music; if I try it with a Video I became a window "Timeout to long, check Your NET OR YOUR PREFERENCES"
I don´t know, how I can running my video´s from iMac.
    Thanks for ideas.
    Michael

Well, the Allen-Heath support site had the answer... quite suprised and pleased!!
Have to reconfigure the iMac speakers in the Audio/Midi preferences. The details are found in this URL:

The ZED R16 is a great board but certainly not Plug' n Play.

I read about AirPlay for AppleTv and I considering getting it but not for a while. However I was wondering if there was a way to get AirPlay on my 21inch iMac currently on 10.7.3 (OS X LION)
It is already on your iMac.

  • Airplay from iMac dropping....

My 2011 iMac drops the airplay signal every 10-20 seconds. Airplay from my iphone & ipad work fine with no dropping so the problem is definitley related to the imac and not my wirless connection. I reset the pram & smc, this made no difference. I deleted the airport file in library-prefences-system configuraion, and this solves the problem for a while but then it returns within 24 hours. I can see by looking at the wireless status that it drops the signal everytime the imac searches for new netorks which is every few seconds. This is driving me mad, please someone help?!!!

Have you tried to change the channel on your WiFi router/access point?

  • AirPlay to iMac

What software is best for air playing content from the iphone and iPad to the iMac and why isn't  it something that is standard from apple
    Rather than third party ?
    I. ve been waiting to see if apple adds the possibility to AirPlay to the Mac... Can it be done with airport? If it.s good for tunes
Surely it must be good for video, can anyone explain this to me?
    Thanx

  • Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.
AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)
But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?
In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.
Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

I agree, what is the point of making an operating system compatible with a particular computer and then arbitrarily disabling the most meaningful features. It seems like Apple is once again forcing us to wastefully update equipment through less than honest means. Any update they have should have a clear list of what will not be relevant to you with te equipment you are using. I would not have purchased Mountail Lion if I had been aware that AirPlay would not work. And before someone tells me that I just needed to check to look and it was clear. I went so far as to make sure my graphics card was compatible. Which is really the only thing I can see being a reasonable excuse for disabling a feature such as this.

  • Error (-42018) when trying to airplay from iMac to iPad2

When trying to airplay from itunes on my iMac to my new iPad2, it starts ... connecting... and gives me the error
"An error occurred while ... unknown error (-42018)."
Anyone know what that mean? They are on the same network and I can pick the ipad to from the "play on list."
    Thanks in advance

    Chris, you are wrong.
No, I am not wrong but thanks for playing.
    You need to install airframe
Perhaps you could have mentioned this in your first post because it is not a standard part of AirPlay.
Please don't answer questions, when you don't know the answer.
I do know the answer which is why I responded (though now I wonder why I did).
You should contact the author of Airframe instead of being rude.
and it does not seem to be in the (US) App store anymore.

  • Airport Express streams Airplay from iMac but not from Windows 7 PC

I have a wireless network set up using a Linksys WRT45G2 v1 router. There is one iMac running Snow Leopard, one laptop running 32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate and one desktop running 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. The router is set to WPA2 Personal TKIP+AES security. The Airport Express is set to WPA2 Personal. Its wireless mode is "join a wireless network." It is running firmware version 6.3. The iMac and the laptop are running iTunes 9 and the desktop is running iTunes 10.
Up until recently I was able to stream music from the iMac and the desktop but not the laptop to remote speakers using airtunes via the airport express. Then the video processor in my desktop PC failed and in the course of diagnostic testing I had to reinstall the OS. After replacing the video card and reinstalling the OS, I tried to reconnect Airport Express to iTunes on the desktop PC but Airport Utility could not find the Airport Express. I returned the Airport Express to factory settings and tried again. The PC still did not recognize the Airport Express. I couldn't use the PC to reconfigure the Airport Express, but the iMac did see it so I reconfigured the Airport Express using the iMac. Now I can stream music using Airport Express from the iMac ONLY.
When I use the Airport Utility to scan on the desktop or the laptop PCs it does not see the Airport Express. I can, however, see the Airport Express and read its configuration using Airport Utility on both PCs by using "configure other..." under the File tab (i.e. by typing in the IP number and password for the Airport Express.) Even though I can read the configuration and save it, iTunes does not recognize any remote speakers and I cannot stream music from either PC.
I have tried turning off ALL wireless security as well as all firewalls. I also tried both iTunes 9 and iTunes 10 on the desktop. Nothing makes any difference.
Before I could at least stream from desktop even though I had never been able to get the laptop to stream.
Can anyone suggest a way to get Airtunes (Airplay) to work from my PCs?

I have had the same issue. Airplay working with all devices apart from one windows 7 (the actual media server) and have spent over a week trying to resolve it.
    This worked for me.
Turn off windows firewall and in my instance macafee. Be warned while macafee says that it's off there are services running all the time.
You will need to open macafee settings and turn off access protection first
Then search services from start bar
Open services and filter by manufacturer
    Stoop all macafee services
    Right click the start bar
    Open task manager
    Stop all macafee processes
Try your airport utility you should now see your express
If you can you will see your icon in iTunes
This pores that it's likely to be a macafee issues. Of course you do not want to leave the firewall off so I installed macafee and installed a fresh copy turning both the windows and macafee firewall on with no resultant issues
    Hope this helps

  • Yosemite AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working.

I've been using AirParrot to transfer movies on my older computer to my Apple TV.   My new iMac,  using Yosemite 10.10.3, has AirPlay. However, I can't turn "mirroring" on.  Why?   New Mac specifications: 21.5" iMac, Processor 2.9GHz,  Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB.

    Greetings barbiebb,
If you are having an issue with AirPlay Mirroring between your iMac and your Apple TV not functioning as expected, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • HT4325 I can use airplay on iMac but not iPad or iPhones

My iMac streams music to my Apple TV units and I have the airplay icon appear. I can happily stream music to different speakers from my iMac.
I am using Pandora to play music on my iMac and would like to stream it to different speakers. I thought I could do this using either my iPhones (4S & 5) and iPad2 but no such luck. It would appear that I cannot stream to the AppleTVs as they are first generation but they happily work with the iMac?!?
Am I missing something or is there a way I can achieve streaming from these devices using Airplay?
Background: The wifi is fine, all devices are using the same system and are connected using a router. It works well for the iMac using itunes but alas Pandora is not available on itunes.
    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
No you aren't doing anything wrong, the first generation Apple TV can't receive streams from an iOS device.

  • Why can I no longer Airplay from iMac?

I have a 2011 iMac and a 2012 Mac mini.  Today my iMac will not airplay, no airplay option.  I get "Superdrive F12" when I click on airplay.  Display settings will not show airplay.  Yes, same wifi network.
    Stumped???

  • Regarding airplay and imac models

i have a 27" imac with an i7 processor and i am running LION 10.7.4.
I get airplay to my tv via apple tv wherever the litlle apple icon offering choice of device or airplay ia present.
note this is on LION, not mountain lion. still, i read complaints about airplay not working on MOUNTAIN LION if computer older than varying time fom two years to as little as eleven months. my computer is older but runs airplay now, using iphone 4 and ipad.
i am confused as to what to expect after i install MOUNTAIN LION. perhaps i am missing something important.
i will note that if i am watching, say, a podcast on the tv, i do not see it at the same time on the ios devices or the computer.
What can i expect from MOUNTAIN LION in this regard?
    Thank you very much,
    vince.

Apple clearly states what Macintosh models support Airplay , the link is: www.apple.com/osx click the tech specs and you're off and running.
