Airplay from Macbook (Mavericks) to apple tv 2 ends automatically

Hi,
I have the problem that the streaming form my Macbook Retina 2013 to my apple TV ends automatically after several minutes (appr. 15min)
E.g. I stream spotify or itunes to my apple TV in order to listen to the music on my Hifi System.
Unfortunately, the stream stops after several minutes and my Macbook continues to play the music via its local loadspeaker.
I have tried to change the screensaver and power saving settings, w/o any success. Airplay still ends after several minutes automatically.
I'm pretty sure it's somehow connected to the power saving settings, since when I continue working on my Macbook the streaming won't stop.
Does anybody know which settings I have to change to enable a endless streaming btw. Macbook and apple TV?
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

I forgot to say... Airparrot shows up in your system tray after you install. As long as you are on the same network as your Apple TV, just right click the Airparrot icon and select Apple TV as your Airplay device. Voila!

Then hook up your wireless keyboard and mouse and plop on the couch for some supersized web browsing.

Okay, use AirPlay if the Mac supports it or Home Sharing.

  • I am all of the sudden unable to airplay or home share from macbook air to apple tv

worked for 2 years, nothings changed on my end and now it doesnt.  I cant home share, nor can i airplay from my macbook air to my apple tv or my ipad to my apple tv.  The iphone works fine.  I reset all settings, turned devices on and off, turned home sharing on and off.  I reset my modem and router both seperately and together.  Nothing works.  Apple wants me to pay 29 bucks plus tax just to talk to them about it.

    Hi, John,
I have the same problem than you, please if you found a solution write that on this post My Facetime stopped working on my iPhone after i bought a macbook pro I will do the same with your post if I find the solution.

  • AirPlay from MacBook Pro to an iPad?

Can AirPlay be used to mirror a MacBook Pro (OS X10.9.3) to an iPad running iOS 7.1?
The support material from Apple (and most of the community discussions) concern getting Airplay from a Mac computer or iOS device to run to an Apple TV.
But there are some support/discussion elements that also suggest it would be possible to do mirroring from a computer to an iOS device.
FYI - I don't have an Apple TV.  And the Airplay icon does not appear in the Control Panel of my iPad.  My MacBook Pro Display Settings shows the capacity for AirPlay display, but does not detect any devices.   I've not installed any third party "air" mirroring applications.

    Hello 25th Floor,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you're wanting to AirPlay from a Mac to an iOS device.  AirPlay mirroring from your Mac is designed to only function with an Apple TV.  Please see the following article for what is required to use AirPlay Mirroring in OS X.
Requirements for AirPlay in OS X
    An Apple TV
Apple TV (2nd generation or later) with software update v5.0 or later.

    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
Mac Pro (Late 2013 or newer)

  • Sending content from Macbook Pro to Apple TV

Have had Apple TV for a year, and am still don't know how to send movies from the laptop (Mavericks) to Apple TV. Have turned on Home Sharing, but what then?
Is a cable necessary? A good wireless (Verizon)  network is available.
If someone could post a step-by-step procedure I'd be very grateful.

home sharing is the appletv being able to access supported media in a shared itunes lib on your computer it works pretty much the same way as other computers on the same network as you can access media from your itunes lib if you set it as shared

airplay mean sending media such as audio and video to be displayed on the appletv as in pretty much the opposite as shared lib
not all macs support airplay mirror which include video read more

  • Very Slow Streaming from MacBook Pro to Apple TV

I am trying to stream movie from my MacBook to my Apple TV but the movies do not stream. My library shows up on my Apple TV and when I select them they do not load. After a few minutes a message will show up saying, "An error occurred loading this content, Try again later." I have had my Apple TV for about 5 months and have not had any problems streaming content before except when I had to do some port forwarding through my router but about a week ago it started with this issue. I have a PC hooked up to my network and am able to stream from that without any problems. My MacBook is running OSX 10.8.2 with iTunes 11.0.1, my Apple TV is running 5.1.1. Please help with any suggestions you might have.

  • How to AirPlay from MacBook Air iPhoto?

Anybody know how to reproduce a video that has been downloded from iPhone into iPhoto (MacBook Air) to Apple TV?
I recently downloded all videos from my iPhone into my MacBook Air´s iPhoto to free space. When I played the videos on my iPhone, I was able to choose my Apple TV in order to whatch it on my TV.
Now that I have the video on iPhoto, when I play it, Macbook Air does not give the option to reproduce it on Apple TV. Same goes for Youtube and other videos played on my MacBook Air.

Mountain Lion (the next version of OS X) will have Apple TV mirroring built in.  Wait a couple months.

  • Airplay from iOS vs direct Apple TV streaming

Does anyone know if using AirPlay from iOS provides a lower quality than simply streaming directly from the Apple TV?  For example, if I stream a movie from my Home Sharing library it will load faster than using the Apple TV to bring it down from the cloud.  But, will it look the same?  Or, if I rent a movie from the Apple TV will it be better quality than renting from Amazon Prime app and using AirPlay to view it?
It seems like using AirPlay might require twice the bandwidth and result in lower quality.
    Thanks!

Thanks so much for the detailed reply.
So the only thing I lose by using AirPlay from an iOS device, vs streaming from the Apple TV directly, is some LAN traffic?  The quality should remain the same because of buffering, but it takes extra LAN bandwidth to go from the iOS device to the Apple TV?
For Airplay yes, the quality should be the same, but for Airplay Mirroring it is different as the screen display frames are compressed on the fly and transmitted.
I am not 100% sure that some apps don't generate a stream as they run to send via standard Airplay which would alter quaity but no way of knowing for sure unless it was a game where the 'action' was live.
Standard Airplay just takes a pre-rendered video stream (which may be streaming on a website viewed in a browser on iPad), and provided it is AppleTv compatible can just be forwarded to the AppleTV as is.  The clearest examples are where you sync a purchase from itunes store to iPad or rent/but on it - the downloaded file is just relayed to AppleTV to play, the same as it would be from iTunes on a PC/Mac using Home Sharing or playing an iTunes Store  purchase from the cloud or renting there - the files are the same so if a purchase in itunes is 6GB, the rental or stream to play from the cloud will be the same.
Netflix and other services are rate adaptive on AppleTV so degrade stream quality on slower connections on the fly.  Pros are near instant startup, cons potentially worse video pq.

  • Streaming from MacBook Air to Apple TV via Airplay mirroring causes stuttering

So... I'm trying to stream video from Safari on my Mac to my Apple TV via Airplay mirroring. Most of the time, the video starts off just fine, but after a while, it begins to stutter and lag on my Apple TV. The video is playing just fine on my Mac, but as it's mirrored over to the Apple TV, it begins to stutter and lag on the Apple TV only; not on my Mac. I then quit out of Safari, turn off wifi on my Mac, restart the Apple TV and restart my Time Capsule. Once I do that, it works fine, intermittently for a bit, and then starts to give out again.
I have a 2013 13" MacBook Air with 8 GB's of RAM, an Apple TV 2 and 3, a previous generation Time Capsule (802.11n), and 50 Mbps wifi from AT&T Uverse.
What gives? What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't this stream just fine under these circumstances?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hey vazandrew,
Thanks for the update on the encryption piece. I didn't know that. I thought you meant something like using a VPN.
And yeah, 4 years is a while. I just figured if the drive was still humming along all should be well. I didn't think that performance could be affected in this way just from using an old router.
The issue does occur on both Apple TV's. Near the Apple TV's are just my TV sets. One ATV also has speakers nearby it. The ATV's are not sitting inside of a closed space. They're on top of the entertainment unit. The rest of the appliances are below and inside the unit.
Near the Time Capsule is the Uverse Gateway modem for my cable tv, a Motorola SB6141 modem for my internet with Atlantic Broadband (I mistakenly mentioned initially that my internet was with Uverse), an APC battery backup, my HP printer, a USB hub, a power strip, and a couple of unplugged external hard drives.
    Thank you again.

  • Apple TV new- can I do Airplay from Macbook?

    I have a new AppleTV.
I can send a few things (like from iTunes) to the AppleTV, but can't play a video from my MacBook over the AppleTV (like I can with my iPad).
    How can I do that?

    AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2
Wow your audience in the board room, classroom or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 to your HDTV via Apple TV. Everyone in the room sees exactly what’s on your iPad display up there on the big screen — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out on photos.2

  • Sound but no picture on Apple TV airplay from macbook

    Hi,
To give a little more depth to this. I was working on a presentation on my Samsung TV on airplay connected through Apple TV, I left the room and then the external display had gone blank.
I am able to connect with airplay and sounds can be played through the TV but the screen is blank. I can my Ipad and Iphone to the tv and everything works fine therefore I'm assuming I have somehow managed to sit on my laptop and done something. All software is up to date, running the latest version of Yosemite and as my other devices work I can only assume I have somehow turned off the display on my computer.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).

  • Choppy video playback with airplay from Macbook Pro

I experience very choppy video using airplay towards my Airplay unit (3rd gen).
I am using a Macbook Pro (15" retina, late 2013 version) with these specifications:
    - Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz.
    - 16 GB ram.
    - 768 GB flash/SSD.
...and so on. I have the Mavericks OS installed (10.9.1).
When I duplicate or extend the screen of the computer to my Apple TV it is chopping EXTREMELY much. I am not talking a little bit - but it is not even watchable. I thought that it could be the router itself as the connection is (probably, correct me if I am wrong anyone) is directed from the computer - to the router - and then to the Apple TV, which could make the router like a filter in the process. And if something would prevent the signal from reaching the Apple TV with "full speed" it could prevent the actuall image.
However, when I am using the iPhone 4S and streaming video (both video found in my phone as well as streamed TV from apps such as Magine.com) the image flows completely flawless. There are not even a touch of lagging. It flows perfect, just as watching a movie directly on the TV.
The networking hardware in the phone is slower than in the Macbook Pro retina (late 2013) - both for sending and recieving data. But still... my iPhone works better than the Macbook Pro for the Apple TV. Even though that the processing, memory, graphic and networking power is probably a thousand times faster in the computer... it still performs really bad.
I have followed some discussion threads here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22051725#22051725 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5734226?tstart=0 just as a couple of examples). I have accessed my router (Netgear Gigabit EVG 2000) and increased the Wireless mode to "up to 270 Mbps. I have also followed the previously linked threads and disabled the WMM (in the QoS-section). I felt that this made a little bit of a difference...
...when I am mirroring the screen and scale down the resolution to match the AirPlay screen (full-HD, 1920 x 1080) it works okay, but still chops quite a bit almost all the time. But if I extend the screen and want to watch TV at the same time as I am doing something else on the computer - then it chops so that it is not even possible to watch.
This have to be something either with the Mavericks OS or with my network settings - can anyone help me...? It would mean A LOT!

Curious why you think it would be my network when the same network is being used by the iPad 3rd Gen and iPhone 5 and they both stream without issue. As far as the other items you mentioned, all devices are up-to-date with the latest firmware/software and the latest MacBooks do not have ethernet ports. Speedtests that I have conducted also indicate that bandwidth is not the issue as the results show that the speeds received from the router are quite impressive.

  • No Video using Airplay from iPad 2 to Apple TV 2 using authorized App.

I have an iPad 2 and Apple TV 2.   I use Slingbox.
Today, I started watching a show using my iPad as a Slingbox Player.   The source TV was in another state.   The video and audio was good, and the network speed using Speakeasy was above 3MBPS download.   I clicked on the Airplay button at the top, and the video and audio started playing on my HD TV in full HD.  Audio and Video were correct and great.
Then I tried to change channels and evenutally I disconnected the Slingbox.   I reconnected the Slingbox and after pushing the Airplay button again, I only got audio (with a little musical note symbol on the tv at the lower lest corner).   I then proceeded to reboot the iPad 2 and i reset the Apple TV to factory settings.   No luck.  Reconnecting via Airplay to the TV only will stream Audio.   The network speed stayed above 3MBPS.
I also was unable to connect video using my iPhone, but I was able with my MacBook Air.
Note:  I AM able to force mirroring by turning Mirroring "on" (double click on button, swipe app bar to the right, hit Airplay button, and turn on Mirroring).   But although the video is fine, I lose HD and the picture qualtiy is degraded.   Not a good solution.
I now KNOW that I can send a Slingbox signal to my HDTV from my iPad as a Slingplayer and using Airplay.  It worked!  But only for about 20 minutes, and I am not able to get it back.
This is a real poser.   I hope someone knows how to fix this (but judging from the other questions on this question over the years - I doubt it...:-(

I FOUND THE ANSWER TO MY OWN QUESTION:  The Slingplayer will tend to default to SQ (Standard Quality) playback.   Under "Quality" on the Slingplayer screen, there are choices of SQ, HD (High Def) and AUTO.   I selected "Auto" and it went to HD quality.  Then, when I enabled AirPlay, a full HD picture appeared on my TV WITHOUT having to select "Mirroring".
    I get 10 points...
