Airplay icon is gone after upgrade to Mavericks

Hi there.
I have a Macbrook Pro 13" - Late 2011 and an Apple TV 3.
After I upgraded to OS X Mavericks, the Airplay icon does not appear in the menu bar.
I have enabled the option "Show mirroring options..." in Displays Preferences.
Airplay works if I just choose Apple TV from Airplay Display menu in the same preferences window.
Any help?
Thanks.

This solved my problem
1. Open 'Terminal';
2. Copy this text (without comas): '' mv ~/L*/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db ~/Desktop ";
3. Press Enter; (Screen will flash and icons, dock & finder will disappear for some seconds! In the end, everything will appear on screen!
4. Restar computer;
5. Immediately after turning it on, press AT THE SAME TIME: Command + ALT + P+ R
6. The screen will flash & you'll hear the booting sound again! Then you can let go teh keyboard.

  • Why does the airplay icon not appear after upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac.

I am using an Apple TV, iPad 2, and an iMac with wifi sharing enabled.  Before upgrading to mavericks I was easily able to use airplay to mirror the display of my ipad2 to a projector.  After the upgrade the airplay icon will dispear.  When I restart the wifi sharing on my imac then the airplay icon will reappear on my ipad.
Does anyone have a fix for this.  I use this in my classroom and this problem made yesterdays lesson almost undoable because students were givng presentations and each time a student wanted to project thier ipad screen I had to reset my wifi.

  • Faces gone after upgrades to Mavericks and iPhoto database.

After upgrading to Mavericks from Mountain Lion, the iPhoto Database had to be upgraded by iPhoto to work with Mavericks. It went thru the process and afterwards many (but not all) of my Faces were gone. The photos are still there...and they're still tagged with the appropriate Faces name, but they will not show up in Faces. The only way I can get them to show up there is to delete the Faces names that are already on the photo and re-enter the Faces from scratch. But since there are at least 1500 photos that are affected, there's got to be a better way! I've done each of the following to no avail:
    1) Repaired permissions.
    2) Rebuilt Thumbnails.
    3) Repaired the Database
    4) Rebuilt the Database
    5) Restored the Database from Time Machine to pre-Mavericks. The database had to be converted by iPhoto like before. And the results are the same - lots and lots of Faces missing - though everything else appears to be there. The only thing I can see is that it's the same set of years where the Faces are missing (it's something like all Faces from 1942-1970 are missing - but the ones before and after that are there).
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Since you've tried all of the standard fixes there's only one left:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If no change try rebuilding the thumbnails again.

  • Airplay gone after upgrade to Mavericks

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13" - it has supported Airplay for audio since Airplay was launched (doesn't support Airplay mirroring).  I upgraded to Mavericks yesterday and now my Sound control panel no longer shows my airplay devices as output options, and iTunes no longer shows the Airplay icon and menu.  Has anyone else seen this?

I found out that the built in firewall interferes with AirPlay (which I know is weird).
Try turning the OS X firewall off using System Settings -> Security. If AirPlay now works, turn on the firewall and add "coreaudio" to the list of exceptions. This worked for me.
By the way, Coreaudio is the OS X system driver for audio.

  • IWork apps gone after upgrading to mavericks

    Hello guys !
Recently my macbook pro (running Mountain Lion ) was unable to install some apps and after 2 year it was some kind of slow .. so I erase my hard and reinstall it using bootable USB ( I once did it before )
after that I upgrade to mavericks manually ... since I bought macbook > I own iWork & iLife apps ( not on DVD) ... going to mac store for redownloading purchased apps ...WOW ... iWork apps was gone and I have to pay ! but iLife apps was still free for me
free upgrade to mavericks cust me 60$ to rebuy what I own before !!!
I don't know what happend here ..  even I've mailed to mac os support and they answer me that I only own these apps for iOS ... but I do owned them !!!
do you have any idea what should I do ?
what is wrong with apple about this ?

This is a user to user support forum. We don't have access to your Purchase History. iTunes/Mac App Store support does. They can see everything that you have bought since you opened the iTunes account. We can't help with your dispute with iTunes Support.
Why would you erase the HDD and not have a secure backup of all your apps and data?

  • Notes gone after upgrading to Mavericks

Have started the "Notes" application but none of my notes that were in Mail appear in the app after the upgrade to Mavericks - and they are of course gone from Mail.  they are still in my Notes app on my iPhone.  what should I do?

If your iPhone is 3GS or newer, it is probably a case of ensuring iCloud syncing is activated in iTunes and is the default account on the phone.  However, the older iPhones did not have this iCloud facility and getting Notes off them meant using an extractor and then interrogating the Sqlite database.  First, make sure you back up the phone to your computer using iTunes.
Maybe this thread is a help.

  • Network utility gone after upgrade to Mavericks

    Hello,
After upgrading my 1 year old Retina Macbook Pro from Mountain Lion to Mavericks my Network Utility app was removed after the successful upgrade.
Is this just an incident by me or was this intended to happen as function of this utility is put somewhere else or considered by Apple not to be necessary anymore.
    Regards,
    Rob

    Apple moved it to /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/.

  • All of my pictures from my iPhoto library are gone after upgrading to Mavericks

I just upgraded to Os X Mavericks and now all of my pictures are gone from my iPhoto library, and of course I am unable to access this version of iPhoto on OS X Mavericks.
I tried to find them using a different application or in Finder, and in both cases "iPhoto Library" is in Gray and no contents are available. My system memory doesn't seem to be reflecting the number of photos I have either.
If I go back to my old operating system will it work? If not, I have lost all my pictures since February of 2011. I have been crying nonstop for an hour trying to figure out what to do.

Open the App Store and upgrade iPhoto to the Mavericks version. Installing OS X does not do anything to your iPhoto Library.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.

    Hi,
After upgrading to Mavericks, all my mail folders in Mail are gone.  Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix this. I only use the apple Mail, not anything else like gmail etc. Its very frustrating as I had importantant documents there.

  • My Dock icons looks garbled after upgrading to OS X Maverick.

My Dock icons looks garbled after upgrading to OS X Maverick. Not all but most of them look like scattered dots instead of the icons, tried restarting multiple times still no use.
I installed OS X Maverick last week and for a week it looked fine. I have restarted the OS for copule of times after upgrade. Now the Icons in the dock seem to be garbled.

The dock preferences may be corrupted ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash
    Restart your Mac.

  • System becoming un-responsive after upgrade to Maverick

After upgrading to Maverick I am experiencing massive performace problems to the point of the system not being usable.
    System: 2010 iMac
Upgraded Yesterday morning, Upgrade process went smooth, no issues at first. First symptoms of problems were hick-ups in video playback, jerks in window switching. From then on over several hours the system became slower and slower to the point of being unusable. Performed system reboot, which took 45min, followed by fast degradation and unusability.
Attempted revovery actions with help from Apple support (thanks, even though the problem remains so far):
Booted system via the network into recovery mode, performed disk check: SMART status OK,  verified and repaired disk no issues deteced, verified partition, no issues detected, data volume looks correct.
    Attempted normal boot-up, unsucceful
Performed powerdown, followed by opt+cntr+R+P boot, no success
Performed safe boot (shift), system came back up after 1.5 hours, extremely unresponsive, but at least it is up. I am scared to try to shut it down.
Diagnosis attempts: Other than time-outs, no unusual errors in console, file hirachy and files look Ok from terminal, access very slow. Can't see any obviously problematic processes in Activity Monitor, RAM usage about 2.5GBytes out of 12GBytes total, largest is kernel with 700MB, CPU not loaded, no high disk or network io. Evything looks to me like a pefectly normal system that runs at 1/100th or so speed.
Maverick managed to perform a time machine back-up over night and all earlier back-up are gone. So no chance to restore back to Mountain Lion that way.
Anybody with similar problems, any ideas for next steps?
    Thanks

  • After upgrade to Mavericks

after upgrade to Mavericks , I have now two long black strip on my monitor 30 inches , one at the top, and the other one at the buttom, the rest of the display is fine with Mav. desktop screen with menu bar and dock. Before with mountain lion everything was fine. I have 2 display . one apple 20 inche display with no black strip and a 30 inches LG Flatron W3000H with those 2 black strip. I losing i inch tall at the top and same at the buttom.I try to install maverick again ,same problem, try the display panel of course , no luck. help
           Mario

I already try that , my largest resolution on the 30 inc is 2560 by1440.Not working.I mixed up , I actually upgrated from 10.6.8. When I boot from a 10.6.8 partition , I have no problem. But I realize that my 20 display can have 1680 by 1050 max and my 30 2560 by 1600 max. Then if I boot from 10.9 partition I am having the probem with the black strip and my 20 can max at 2560 by1600 and my 30 can max at 2560 by 1440 with the bars. I realize too that I do not have a menu bar on the 20 display, only on my 30. And when I do a safe mode boot 10.9 , the 2 bars are gone and I have a full 30 display. That workstation is a MacPro 2008 with ati HD 4870 512 k . I checked I did not found any updrate for the video cards.
On my other workstion that I upgrated from Montain Lion to 10.9 which it the latest 27 inc IMac with a second 30 inc Apple display  I have no probem , no black bars and and I have a menu bar on both displays.By the way , before I bought the new Imac , I was working with the macpro with same video card and I had the two 30 inc display , running 10.6.8 with no problem.
I have another problem too that I post on the wifi section. Since upgrade to 10.9 on the macpro , the one with the bars , I lost my wifi icon on the menu bar. i went to Network pane and I do no see a wifi section, only ethernet, firewire, and bluetooth and I try to add another choice the dialog do not let me choose from a wifi. I owne a airport extreme 4 gen and when i open airport utility the airport ext is discovered but no wireless.
I work with pictures, with Lightroom 5 which I instal on the Imac 27, no problem. But I am waiting to install anything on the macpro in case I have to reinstall again 10.9 or if a 10.9.1 update could fix the problem.
Anybody with these two problem, the bars and the missing wifi
      thanks      Mario

  • Late 2007 15" MBP Very slow after upgrading to Mavericks

    Hi guys,
this is my first post here. I look forward to learn and help others.
The reason of this post is, as outlined in the title, slow paerformance of my computer after upgrading to Mavericks. It was kinda slow from before but this time it's almost unbearable to use it. I used to be able to run VMWare with 2 XP and 1 windows server machines WITH JUST 2 GB OF RAM! Now I have 4 GB and can barely run a single virtual machine with XP and the cooling fans come on just by watching a video on youtube, which also makes performance take a dump.

I understand it says my RAM is way too low, but hve no idea what's killing it. So far I've disabled and uninstalled all DynDNS items. I just read about Chrome's slow performance for MBP's and plan to switch back to Safari (Firefox made my computer even slower).
Thanks in advance for any light shed on this.

Thank you Kappy, while I was reviewing the log from EtreCheck I noticed the 3rd party preference panes, launchers and daemos. I deleted a few of them and it really helped with system performance. Reading your reply confirms that what I did was the right thing; here is an updated log from EtreCheck:

I was reading about GeekBench in the discusions and decided to give it a go, although I was able to only perform the 32-bit tests, I got 1268 on the single-core score and 2187 for the multi-core score; I don't know how good or bad those numbers are. Wish I had a before and after reading but I read about it too late, when I had already erased several items.
I will appreciate any further input BEFORE I decide to reinstall the OS from scratch.

  • IPhoto no longer work after upgrading to Mavericks.

My iPhoto will no longer work after upgrading to Mavericks. iPhoto will not update. How do I fix this?

Just upgraded and Iphoto will not work,
Check that iPhoto is v9.5.1 (In Applications, highlight iPhoto, and ⌘I)
If it is v9.5.1, then hold option-command and click the iPhoto icon and go through the repair steps.
