AirPlay icon is gone on iPad

My airplay icon is gone? It booted me off atv in the middle of something and icon was gone?

1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

I just had the same problem. Took the first unit back and the problem is still occuring on the second one. I solved it by setting up again with the USB, but it keeps dropping out every few days.

BTW, it changing the wi-fi channel is necesary please explain how to do so.
It's not necessary, but is a good troubleshooting step.  How to do so varies from brand to brand.  Look at the manufacturers website, they should have a manual available that explains how to access the settings and change it.

In that case, I would strongly encourage you to connect them via a short Ethernet cable.  The proximity of the two devices could be the culprit in the video quality issues.

  • Airplay icon is gone

My airport express is logged into my existing wireless network (nice pretty green light after a fair amount of work) and connected to my stereo.  Airplay icon on iPad shows up one day (and everything works great) and then the icon is no longer available. Works fine occasionally and then simply disappears.
I've reset the Airport Express (multiple times).  I've hard reset the Airport Express (multiple times).  I've hard reset the iPad (multiple times).  Next step is to hard reset the Airport Express through the window and on to the street below!  At least I'll feel better.
    Any ideas?

When you say "try different channels" what do you mean?
All routers can use different channels, which are slightly different frequencies.  A different channel may be less susceptible to interference (if that's what's going on).
But is your iPad a 3G model?  If so, is 3G active even though you're using wi-fi?  With my iPhone I have a problem where AirPlay will drop out periodically and the only way to prevent that is to either (a) put the iPhone into Airplane mode and turn wi-fi back on, or (b) turn off Bluetooth.  If I do either of these things, AirPlay works flawlessly.
So, if your iPad is a 3G model, either turn off cellular data and/or turn off Bluetooth to see if it behaves any better.

  • HT4352 Not finding the airplay icon/function on my iPad 3 to connect to Apple TV?

I have recently bought Apple Tv and my iPhone 4s and iPad 1 can connect to it via AirPlay no problem.
My daughter has just got an iPad 3 and for some reason the AirPlay icon doesn't appear anywhere so can't connect to Apple TV.
Is there only a certain number of devices that can connect to Apple TV or is the AirPlay icon somewhere else on the ipad3?
Home sharing is turned on and connected to same network as Apple TV.
Would be grateful of any assistance?
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you tried restarting the iPad and the router

  • Airplay icon is gone after upgrade to Mavericks

After I upgraded to OS X Mavericks, the Airplay icon does not appear in the menu bar.

Airplay works if I just choose Apple TV from Airplay Display menu in the same preferences window.
    Any help?

  • Help! AirPlay icon has gone gone gone!

No idea how or why but it's gone. I tried to reset but to no avail. Same on other iPad....is this all iPads? What has gone on?
    Any advice would be great!

If you restarted your modem for some reason, you might run into this problem. Put your apple tv to sleep, then switch off wifi on your iPad. Close your Music and/or Movies app in your iPad. Turn apple tv back on, and enable wifi on your iPad.
You should now be able to establish a link between the two. Remember it didn't happen instantly, though. Speed my vary but it works for me.

  • AirPlay icon for Apple TV on iPad Keeps Disappearing

Please help! Since updating to IOS8 the AirPlay icon on my two iPads (Air & new mini) keeps disappearing. I keep rebooting the WIFi router and the AirPlay system works for a minute or ten and then just disappears. The WiFi signal is strong and the phone line is in order; very weird and deeply frustrating. It all worked fine with IOS7. AirPlay is switched on.
    Thanks for any help offered.......

    Hello there BradTheAce,
It sounds like your Airplay function is intermitent on iOS 8. I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article to help troubleshoot the issue:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap  and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • New iPad AirPlay Icon in Music app

I have had this happen twice now so I am thinking it may be a bug. When in the music app on the new iPad, clicking the AirPlay icon only shows the iPad in the list even though I have an Apple TV. If I go to the AirPlay to mirror the iPad, the Apple TV shows up there. If I restart my iPad, the Apple TV shows correctly in the music app, but later disappears again.
    Is this a bug?
    Scott

You are in the US with a US iTunes account (iTunes Radio is currently only available in the US) ? If you are then try logging out of your account by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in and see if it then shows.

  • HT201335 Yes my AirPlay icon will disappear from my iPad and I can't find it, once I found it in my photos but now I can't find it at all

My Apple TV AirPlay icon disappears off my iPad and I don't know how to get it back. I have done all the suggestions on the site. Once I found it in my photos but now I don't know where to find it.

It should be in the Music app (iBooks is for written books) - when you have audiobooks on an iPad you will get an Audiobooks option under the More button at the bottom of the Music app.
Note that audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store (so they won't appear in the Purchased tab for re-downloading), so you may want to copy it to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you can take a backup copy of it - it should copy over to the Books part of your iTunes library (Audiobooks if using a Mac with Mavericks or Yosemite on it).

  • AirPlay icon iPad 2 & ATV1

I have atv1 and ipad2 all software is up to date, same network etc etc but no airplay icons up on my ipad (it did 24hrs ago)  and I have not changed anything in the last 24 hours, clueless here please help

I was not aware that the 1G Apple TV has ever supported AirPlay from an iOS device. It does still work from iTunes on a computer. You can use Apple's Remote app on an iOS device to control iTunes on the computer and AirPlay speakers including the ATV 1 however you can't stream directly from an iOS device to the ATV 1. Airplay to the ATV is supported with the 2 and 3G models.

  • Airplay icon disappears from iTunes

    Hi,
I recently bought an Airport Express (last generation) to be able to hear my iTunes music collection on my stereo. The Airport Express is connected to my home router via ethernet cable (WiFi is disabled) and is configured to only work as an Airplay device. It works flawlessly from my iPhone and iPad, either using the builtin iOS music app, Spotify, or any other app that supports Airplay.
But that's not the case with iTunes on my PC (Windows 8.1). The Airplay icon keeps disappearing from iTunes and the only way I can get it back is by disconnecting the ethernet cable from the Airport Express and connecting it again. There are two situations where the Airplay icon disappears. One is if I put the computer to sleep. When it wakes up the Airplay icon is gone and I can't get it back unless I disconnect the ethernet cable (or reset the Airplay). But sometimes I'm hearing some music via PC, then switch to Spotify on the iPad, and when I get back to the PC the Airplay icon turns orange and I can't connect to the Airport Express. Then it disappears. It doesn't always happen.
I've already tried every solution that I read in these forums but nothing works. I've disabled the windows firewall, disabled IPv6, configured the Airport Express with a fixed IP address, etc. etc. Nothing seems to work. The only thing I haven't tried is connecting my PC and Airpor Express via WiFi to the router, because my PC is a desktop and doesn't have an WiFi card. Right now it is connected via ethernet cable to the same router as the Airport Express, so it shouldn't be a problem, I guess.
Can anyone please give me any advice? I'm really frustrated, because having to disconnect the network cable from the Airport Express every time I turn on my computer so I can hear to some music is very annoying.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Best regards,
    Pedro

Hello, I have this exact same problem -- Airport Express bought Feb. 2014 (not sure of firmware version?) Windows 8 PC, multiple iPads, iPhones in home. Wireless provider Comcast in S.F. Bay Area (using their Xfinity modem / router) extremely reliable and very fast for 10+ years.
Every few days Airport Express icon in iTunes on Windows PC turns orange and requires PC reboot. Upon reboot, streaming music works fine. Have also tried all other fixes found on Support forums, etc.
On iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S and both iPad 2s Airport Express icon is always available and always seems to work fine.
Strangely enough, after replacing iPhone 3GS with iPhone 5s (yesterday!), Airport Express was not available on new iPhone, but after quick reboot of Airport Express, new iPhone was able to stream music...
Windows 8, iTunes, etc. updated w/ latest versions, etc.
Definitely a pain having to re-boot PC every few days to re-connect to Airport Express...

  • HT201335 airplay icon has disappeared everything else is the way it should be

airplay icon on my NEW ipad has disappeared how do I find it?

Airplay missing icon - I saw this fix in another forum when someone upgraded their software and ended up loosing Airplay....sounded crazy but totally worked! My airplay icon is back, and working!!
On your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, navigate to Settings > General > International > Language and change to a different language (e.g. if you are using English, switch to French). The device will go through a language switch/reset process, and your AirPlay icon should be restored. Next navigate back to Settings > General > International > Language (translated into the new language, of course) and switch back to your original language.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Airplay icon disappearing

The airplay icon on my iphone, ipad or imac keeps vanishing.  If i reset my ATV2 and set it up from new the icon appears.  But after a few minutes it disappears again.  The ATV2 is still connected to my wifi and I can view movie trailers, see MLBtv etc so I know the wifi is working.  This has been going on for over 12 months now so I had given up trying and just stopped using my ATV2.  It work fine on my BT homehub but when i changed routers it started playing up.  I have since changed routers 2 more times but it still won't work using airplay.  Any thoughts?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.
