AirPlay icon on iPad Mini

Hello
I have a new 2nd Gen Mini that I need a tip on how to do something.
The AirPlay icon does not appear by default when I do the bottom swipe thing to get the control screen feature.
But, I have somehow manage to get it to appear different times.
I just don't know what i've done to make that happen.
I don't know if it was due to an area I was swipping on the control screen or the way I was swipping the area.
I would like to know how to get the icon to appear and possibly be constantly there like the AirDrop icon.
The icon does appear when I turn on Apple TV but, I would like for the icon to appear without having to turn on Apple TV first.
My Apple TV was not turned on at the time when I managed to get the icon to appear.
The AirPlay works fine when I go to use it.

Thanks Phil0124 for replying..
yes there is and they are on same wifi network...
also tried trial version of Airserver and was actually doing that to purchase a full version of that only to find I do not even have Airplay, I wonder how?!

I just had the same problem. Took the first unit back and the problem is still occuring on the second one. I solved it by setting up again with the USB, but it keeps dropping out every few days.

  • Can't see the airplay icon on iPad 3

Can't see the airplay icon on iPad 3 and tried all options on here but still won't appear. Any suggestions.

    Hello there Phillip,
If sounds like you updated to iOS 8.1.3 and now do not see the AirPlay icon in the Control Center. I would run through the troubleshooting and setup verification. It should get that rectified for you:

  • How to enable airplay mirroring on ipad mini using apple tv

I just bough an apple tv but i am unable to perform airplay mirroring using my mini ipdad

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.
Basic AirPlay: Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
Mirroring: When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2 (or better), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (or better), double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.

  • AirPlay VIDEO from iPad mini to AppleTV is GONE

Is Apple aware that since last week's update for AppleTV, video no longer air plays from iPad to AppleTV?
Just audio reaches the TV through AppleTV...no video.
Video keeps showing on the iPad screen itself, but doesn't follow the audio to the TV.
    1st Generation iPad mini
    2012 purchased brand-new AppleTV
AirPlay had worked fine since I've had them...UNTIL THE LAST APPLETV UPDATE.

Tried each of those several times before I posted, lol. Only someone with ZERO technological sense wouldn't.
I'm mostly curious whether anyone else has had this problem since the last AppleTV update, and wanted to post this here since Apple is beyond having a twitter account.

  • Anyone else lost the Airdrop icon on iPad Mini?

When I first installed iOS7 I had the Airdrop icon for a couple of hours but then it dissappeared. If I reboot the device (iPad mini ... should support Airdrop) and go directly to Control Center I can see it for a second, but then it quickly fades away and I can't get it to appear again until I reboot the device again.
    Any ideas?

iOS 7.0.3 installed and there is a small difference from before; now the Airdrop symbol doesn't appear at all, not even immediately after reboot
Well, I guess something is wrong with the hardware
    Thx anyway, pdroth, for trying.

  • IMPORTANT: AirPlay icon on iPad over WiFi - RESOLVED

    Hi,
    RESOLVED
    The situation was:
    - a new Apple TV
    - a local network with an Ethernet/WiFi router (in my case, ASUS)
    - Apple TV is connected over WiFi
    - Macs are connected via Ethernet/wired connection
    - iPads are connected over WiFi
I have set up Apple TV, it successfully connected to the WiFi network with WPA2 and I did successfully entered it into the MAC-filtered access list on the router for added security.
Mac OS X 10.8 (Ethernet) showed up the AirPlay mirroring option immediately. On iPads EVERYTHING failed:
    - turning WiFi on;
    - rebooting the iPad;
    - resetting the iPad;
    - rebooting all devices on the network, including the Apple TV and the router.
The icon still did not appear both in apps on the iPad and in the Recent Apps pane in the bottom.
The solution which resolved my case:
DISABLE AP ISOLATION in wireless network settings on the router and reboot it to apply changes.
This option was hidden under "Set AP isolated" in my case.
After disabling it, iPads started working normally, connections are stable, AirPlay icon is displayed correctly on all iPads when Apple TV is on.
For those interested, this is WHY this option affects:
"Enabling AP Isolation on the router isolates all the wireless devices that use your network, so that each device can communicate with the router but not with each other. The AP isolation function effectively creates a distinct virtual network for each wireless device that connects to the router. Isolating the wireless devices from each other stops an unauthorized user from manipulating the network connection to hack into a connected computer or mobile device."
Would be great if Apple could add this to Wireless Troubleshooting guide or AirPlay troubleshooting guide!
Hope this will save you a lot of excitement with great Apple products!
    Best regards,
    Godhell

I've checked your model - it doesn't seem to have the ability to isolate wireless clients - it's not written anywhere at least.
For what could help to understand the cause, I'd check the ARP table on the router (go to Wireless/Station list) for the existence of MAC addresses for both the Apple TV and your iPad.
I'd make a wired connection of any Mac to the router just for the test - if it works, the problem is most likely that the router does have AP isolation - and enabled by default, which you can't change with standard firmware.
In this case, I'd make a little research on whether there are any custom firmware releases (like dd-wrt) for your model and whether they can be flashed (usually it's easy) - they _may_ provide access to the option of disabling AP isolation if it's really there but hidden from common users.
    Other things I'd check:
    - are all devices on DHCP?
    - DHCP lease expires?
    - try to assign addresses manually to eliminate any DHCP address distribution issues
    - check the MTU in LAN settings - if you've got a non-standard value (certain Internet providers like to complicate things) - could be a problem for certain network services in case of a mismatch
    Hope that could help,
    Best regards,
    Godhell

  • Do not get AirPlay icon on iPad when away from home network

I brought my Apple TV, iPad, and iPhone to a hotel with me.  Although they are all connected to the same wi-if network at the hotel, I do it see the AirPlay icon on either device.  How can I mirror my iPad to Apple TV using AirPlay when I am away from my home network? I am attempting to watch a movie that for some reason is not showing up in my purchased movies to watch directly via Apple TV, but is on my iPad.

  • HT201335 How to do AirPlay mirroring with iPad mini and ATV2?

My iPad mini and my Apple TV 2 (both up to date) don't want to do AirPlay mirroring. Why? Regular AirPlay works. I can't even see the AirPlay button in the taskbar.

That document is describing what you say you are already seeing.  It is talking about enabling the air play button in "apps like Videos, Music etc" as you described.  So if you have the AirPlay button showing up in the iOS music and video players is it working as it is supposed to.  So what is it you are not seeing?

  • Don't see airplay icon on ipad

When I swipe my multitask tray on iPad 3, I see the audio controls but no Airplay icon.  I've never used Airplay but want to use it to mirror my screen to my computer.  Why isn't the icon appearing?
The iPad is connecting wirelessly to a network being generated by an iMac nearby with internet sharing.  I'm trying to mirror to a second iMac, which is on the wireless network too, running Reflection.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Bob

Actually, the computer receives Airplay fine from the iPad -- that's what the Reflection app does.  Turns out I just didn't have Wifi turned on on the receiving iMac, since it was already connected to ethernet.
Once I connected the iMac to the wireless network, it worked great.  It's awesome!
