Airplay Intermittently  Not Connecting Using iTunes

Have a situation.  My iTuness library is stored on my iMac, and I am using a Time Capsule for my wi fi network. I have three Airport Expresses, and three Apple TV 2's, that I stream music too.  On occasion, when I try to engage Airplay either from my iMac, or an iPhone or iPad, nothing happens. On the iMac, and in iTunes, I get the progress box, saying that it is connecting.  After about a minute, that goes away, with still no connection.  The only fix I have found is to restart my iMac.  Have that programmed in settings to go to sleep after 30 minutes.  Anything else that I stream to an Express or ATV, like Sirius/XM or other radio app works fine. This all seemed to start happening when I upgraded to Mountain Lion, which may or may not have anything to do with it.  Anyone who has an idea for a fix,,,,,,,,,,,,,would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, my bad, I have mistaken my ATV for a 1G in fact its a 2G. can't seem to change the first post but there you go.
I connected the ATV to my iTunes lib to try the starting / stopping a song, but it didn't help. Also I'd prefer a solution that doesn't need the TV to be turned on (right now I'm using the optical coax out for music only). Thanks for the tip though.

    If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
    Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
    Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
    Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
    Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
    Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
    Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
    Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.

    I had the same problem. Reinstalled everything and still nothing. Came across this article:
    5 Simple Tricks to Get iTunes to Recognize an iOS Device
    Quit and relaunch iTunes
    Connect the iOS device to a different USB port on the computer
    Reboot the iPhone, iPad, or iPod
    Reboot the computer
    Use a different syncing cable (if possible)
    I changed my syncing cable and it worked! Try that if all else is failing.

  • My iPad 2 will not restore using iTunes. It keeps telling me - the iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknow error occurred (4) - I have tried every suggestion I could find so far. Any ideas as to what I can do?

    My iPad 2 will not restore using iTunes. It just quit a week or two ago and showed that I had to connect to iTunes.
    When I do the "restore and update" it does not complete the "verifying iPad restore with Apple" and then shows the following message:
    The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (40).
    I have tried it a number of times. Also turned of anti-virus and firewall. Tried on different computers. All resulted in the same message. The iPad is only 2 1/2 years old, so I hope it can be fixed.

    Hi, I HATE to ask for help with this, but I HAVE looked everywhere and Google searched different wordings and have not found anything similar nor a solution to my problem!                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My good old iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, in any house, but when I connect it to my brand new ASUS laptop that has Windows-8 and 3.0 USB ports using the charging/data cable, the charging process just keeps "blinking" BOTH the iPod and the laptop and it will not connect to ITunes and I get "A Device is Detected" message that keeps popping up and going away over and over right above the Windows desktop toolbar.                                                               When I go to control panel and select "Devices" it does show the iPod, but for only a split second and than it disappears, but than it comes back again for a split second and than it disappears again and just keeps doing that over and over and over!                                                                                                                  I have tried resetting the iPod while it is plugged into the laptop by holding the power and menu buttons, that did no good.                                                             I also tried uninstalling iTunes and any other Apple stuff listed and reinstalling it all, that did NOT work!                                                                                          The iPod, the laptop and iTunes ARE all fully updated!                                                                                                                                                                I AM using a brand new charging/data cable that I just opened up an hour ago (I've learned to keep a few brand new ones around at all times since these piece of garbage rip-off cables hardly last a week, even when you baby them!). I also tried a few old cables, they all do the same thing!                                                       I would like to get this piece of junk to connect to my new laptop, even if only once, so that I can change/delete some songs and transfer a few dozen photos,since I haven't been able to do any of that stuff since my old laptop (that NEVER had any problems connecting) died way back in May! lol.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I hope somebody knows a fix or solution!     This is the most bogus example of Apple rip-off EVER.  They do not advertise this *feature* and yet expect people to invest in an Apple ECOSYSTEM?  My experience with Apple TV using a central media "server" (a dedicated Mac Mini) has been atrocious.  I continually get "Cannot connect..." messages and with typical Apple "it just works" mentality, there is no reason stated.  I HATE APPLE TV and I HATE APPLE.  Peddle your crapple somewhere else.

    Ipod touch will not connect to Itunes on WIN7. Used to work on Vista but has never worked on new WIN7 computer. Tried several cables and tried an Ipod shuffle. No joy. Current version of Itunes, restarted apple services and checked USB driver installed and functioning. When first plugged in, windows wants to know how to treat it (camera, file directory...)  and for a few moments shows it as a drive. Device also shows syncing for a few moments. Then Itunes starts, the device stops sync and windows no longer shows it as a drive. Itunes does not show the device but wants to transfer purchases from the device (transfer purchases from an ipod?). I tried the steps given in on-line help and the diagnostic. Must be missing something in the setup of Ituines. Any suggestions...

    Sorry sorry I am a not clear on apple product names. Actually do not care about the names. So I had to look this up so as not to offend anybody. I am talking an ipod nano gen4 AND and ipod nano gen7. Neither work. Can you direct me to somebody who might know how to fix this?

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen NOT Connecting to iTunes

    I have a 2nd Gen iPod Shuffle that works perfectly fine, it connects to my macbook pro and charges and I can play the music that is on it but it will not connect to itunes. I tried uinstalling/reinstalling itunes, reset my laptop, reset the ipod but nothing is working. When I plug it in nothing pops up in itunes.
    What can I do? Anybody have this problem?

    iPod shuffle 4th generation will not connect to iTunes.  Windows Vista and iTunes, all updates current.  Cables secure & connected.  Device driver will not load.  iPad will connect when tried with several other computers.  When I try to connect it will hang iTunes until I re-boot.  iPad does NOT appear in Windows Explorer either.

    Oh, so the iPad DOES work fine connected to the same computer and the same port.  I thought you said it did not in the first post, but maybe you got that working (or I misunderstood before).
    NOTE:  When things are working properly, the shuffle will not appear in Windows Explorer (except when actively syncing), unless you have Enable disk use turned on for the shuffle.  So not seeing it in Windows Explorer may not be a problem.
    Is this shuffle a new purchase... so it did not previously work for you on this computer?  If so, make sure that the shuffle end of the USB cable is fully inserted into the headphones jack.  The fit can be tighter than expected, and it may seem connected, but is not.  For a surprising number of people, this was the problem.
    In iTunes, is the sidebar (along left side of window) visible.  If it is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When there are no devices connected, the heading DEVICES should not appear in the sidebar.  When you connect your iPad, DEVICES should appear, with the iPad listed below.  If you connect the shuffle, it is be added to the list under DEVICES.  To confirm, you do not see the shuffle listed there under DEVICES, when it is connected?
    When you connect the shuffle, does its light on the shuffle do anything?
