Airplay is broken

I have an iMac, macbook air (mid 2013), iphone 5 and just bought ipad air 2. They are running OSX yosemite and ios 8.1 respectively. I just cannot find the airplay button on the ios devices or the mac. They are all on the same network. My Denon receiver and apple TV (second generation) are all airplay enabled. I have rebooted all devices ad nauseum. On ios 7 you could find the airplay button on the control panel or the app. IOS 8 and yosemite releases are the worst in apple history as far as I am concerned. The UIs are unlike apple. Everything is so complicated.  Apple is becoming like microsoft: they keep piling new functionalities without regards to simplicity!
Can someone please help me find the airplay button if there is one.

If your Time Capsule is connected to the router and is set in Bridge Mode, your router is still responsible for providing settings (even that you have 2 networks).
Turn off all of your network deviecs, computers and iOS devices.
Turn on router first (for testing purposes, use only router), then turn on your apple tv and connect it to your router's network. Next, turn on iPad or iPhone and also connect this device to your router's network and try to use airplay mirroring. If it's working ok, then connect your Time Capsule to your router and change network on your Apple TV and iOS device and test it again:Make sure that both devices - Apple TV and iOS device - are connected to the same network.
Other step that you can try is to use personal hotspot on your iPhone and create for testing purposes iphone network and connect your Apple TV to it and test airplay mirroring. If it's working ok, then problem is with your network setup.
Answer to your question: no, Apple did not break anything - Airplay and Airplay Mirroring is still working fine. Problem is somewhere with your setup.

  • Airplay is broken on all devices

2 different MacBook Pros, both running OS 10.10.1
    iPhone 6 running 8.1.2
    iPad running 8.1.1
Suddenly I can't get airplay to work anymore to my Apple TV or to my AirPort Express from any of these computer/devices. No AirPlay icon at all at all.
Also to my Pioneer speaker ... It dropped out at the same time, and I can't stream to it either.
I have checked and all devices are discoverable on the network.
BTW I have 2 different networks .. One on my regular router and one on my Time Machine backup disk. I have tried using both networks, and the AirPlay icon is showing up on neither, for all of my devices/computers.
It used to just work for everything. Did Apple break something?
Where do I start to trouble shoot? I have googled etc. but most answers are for older OS's, not for the latest.
    Thanks!!

  • Screen zoom on an external monitor over Airplay is broken

I just updated to Mavericks and noticed that I have lost functionality. I mirror my MacBook Pro to an external Sharp monitor using Airplay. While I am mirroring and zoom in on my screen, my screen will zoom but not the external monitor. In 10.8 this worked perfectly. Does anybody have ideas for how to enable this or a workaround?

Here is what I just made work for me - and it isn't perfectly what I want, but at least my students will be able to see what I am coding.
In the Accessability Panel's Zoom settings I changed from Full Screen to Picture-In-Picture style zooming.
This works, but I would rather have a full screen zoom.
A side note: The cursor size, and grey scale work, but the color inversion and high contrast settings do not work on the mirrored display.
    It seems strange.

  • Problem whith AirPlay to boxee after uppgrade ios 6.1

After i uppgrade My iPad to IOS 6.1 i cant stream video to my boxee box.
What can i do about it?

Why can't apple play nice with other manufactures and especially with their customers.  I use boxee as well as Apple TV and to be honest if we can't use our existing hardware with AirPlay maybe it's time to change to a different brand!
Here is what boxee told me yesterday.
Unfortunately support for Airplay was broken on the Boxee Box with the iOS 6.1 update. Given that Apple will not license the Airplay protocol, it will not be supported moving forward. I recommend contacting Apple directly , this might force their hand to re-enable it.
So much for the update just being a bug fix, it's let's screw our customers fix!!!

What's up with AirPlay functionality in this app? It requires mirroring to play video, but it doesn't play full screen on the tv. No AirPlay = useless app for me. Otherwise, great app. 5 stars with proper airplay.

  • AirPlay broken after upgrade to iTunes 12 and iOS 8.1.3

    Hi,
Upgraded to itunes 12 and iOS 8.1.3 and AirPlay has now broken. I have never had any issues before with AirPlay (in nearly two years.)
i can only get the AirPlay icon to appear in iphone 6 control centre if I reset my router (HH3). Icon disappears overnight however.
Icon is also missing completely from iTunes. This is permanent.
I have tried everything. factory reset my router, powered down all devices inc iPhone 6 (and reset all network settings) and repaired my power line adapters but I can't get AirPlay to work at all using my Pc.
    Help!
    THanks!

Ps I should clarify that I updated to iTunes 12.1

  • Airplay broken if only connected display is VNC

    Hello everyone,
I'd like to use my MACMINI (i5/2012) for Streamining the entire Screen to Apple TV via Airplay. For that reason I've updated the MACMINI to OS X Mountain Lion.
The MACMINI runs headless, what means, that that there is no physical display-device plugged. I am connected to the MACMINI from my MAC-BOOK Air via VNC.
What I get on the TV-Screen looks like that:
I've found another description of the same problem somewhere in the internet and I adopted the photo there.
Here is the link to that other Problem-Description:

    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks for reply,

I can verify this also.  It's not super importatn in the scheme of things, but will be nice to have fixed.

  • AirPlay keeps turning itself on.  Thought my internal speaker was broken!  Nope.  Just have to keep turning AirPlay off.

AirPlay, iPod3, iOS 6.0.1: AirPlay keeps turning itself on.  Seems to be since iOS update.  I thought my internal speaker was broken!  Nope.  Just have to keep turning AirPlay off.  I'm posting this both for others who might have this problem, and to ask how to keep airplay off.

The "fix" is to get the phone repaired.  There's no magic solution for a broken phone.
Bring your phone ant $149 to Apple for an out of warranty replacement, or find a 3rd party repair shop near you.

  • Is iphone 6 AirPlay broken

I have never had a problem with any of my iPhones or iPads "regarding AirPlay at least" until now. This new iPhone 6 AirPlay is terrible, the way it has to see other devices before even giving you the option or button is nuts. Anyhow, I can't get AirPlay to work reliably at all in this iPhone 6. It's a nightmare. Of course I pull out any old iPhone 5 or 4 etc and it all works totally fine, same with my older iPad 4 retina just not the newest Apple device. Maybe older is built better?
AirPlay has worked fine for many years, why change it and break it?
Apple your need to fix this.

Well I first tried responding via my iPad , foolish me as my IOS products don't work on Apple forums most of the time so now I'm on my iPhone instead so I can atleast type this. Its always amazed me the lack of IOS friendlyness at the Apple forums.
Anyhow, are you saying you don't have an AirPlay button that only shows up when other AirPlay compatable devices are around because that's part of my issue and why Apple chose this new route in bad design for this latest IOS rather than an always present and predictable airplay button as before.  its a dumb design decision. also many users are complaining about this issues on the net with and no real resolution. Most things I read say it's just a buggy new design in AirPlay.
glad yours works then likely we've all got $1000.00 partial paperweights that I can atleast replace.
Swipe up , look for AirPlay button to show up, now swip down , look for new clip to  play, hit play clip, wait for problems ( or not) then do it all over again for next clip.
Old days was hit airplay look for clip and hit play. Way better.

  • AirPlay can't find my computer! Help, Airplay broken already?

On my iPhone and iPad, I can stream my music to my AirPort Express, but not to my actual computer (and hence, killer stereo).
Even at work (our Mac's are plugged into the stereo for the whole store to enjoy) but my iDevices can't see the computers to play through.
This defeats the entire purpose of Airplay for me.
I need it to stream to my stereos.

You guys don't have to be so pompous. I'm with the OP as well, I was hoping for this feature too. I don't think you can point the finger at us for thinking that a Mac could and would be an Airplay device. Its like bringing my CD collection to a friends house. I should be able to listen to MY music at their house. Read this part closely before you give pointless, automatic responses: I KNOW I can plug my iPhone into docks or hardwire it and play my music different ways in different locations, it would just be nice if the most advanced piece of Apple equipment I own could handle the simple task of operating as an Airplay device. Excuse us for assuming that it would be able to do that. Who cares if it "doesn't have the software to do that." You know how easy that would be to change? One puny update.
"Wishing, hoping, dreaming or thinking it will do something that was never announced is pointless."
We weren't. We're just guilty of assuming too much of our computers. IE: They would be one the promised "AirPlay" devices. Simple, disappointing, and not far fetched misunderstanding. Congratulations to the original poster for asking a simple question and getting ridiculed for it.

  • Mavericks has broken Airplay from iOS 7 iMac

When I had iOS 6/7 on my iPad and iPhone, I could use Airplay from my iPad or iPhone to my iMac, no problem.
Since updating to OS X Mavericks, I can Airplay from all of these devices to Apple TV, but not from either iOS device to my iMac (which is late 2011, so this should be possible). It worked that way prior to upgrading.
Anyone having the same problem? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

  • HT4352 Do u have to have a computer/pc to use home sharing? I have apple tv not sure if it's 2nd or 3rd generation or even if it's first generation. My laptop is broken and in the shop, can I not run my apple tv off my iPad?

Do u have to have a computer/pc to use home sharing? I have apple tv not sure if it's 2nd or 3rd generation or even if it's first generation. My laptop is broken and in the shop, can I run my apple tv off my iPad?

If you have home sharing turned on in the settings of your apple tv and your iPad you can AirPlay from your iPad to the apple tv. When you play a video there is a tv icon on the right side of the play/pause/fwd/rwd icons. Click that and choose your apple tv. Your apple tv and iPad must be on the same network.

  • How can I view my MacBook desktop using Apple TV if screen is broken?

Hey guys thanks for taking your time to read this. I was cleaning and my Mac fell on the floor and hit itself on my weights and the
Screen cracked and all I see is colors. I was working on a resume as well
So I would like to know if there's a way I can view it on Apple TV? Unfortunately I can't see
The Turn On AirPlay option on my screen so it can appear on my tv
Since I can't see anything and I know it's not broken cuz I can still play everything from my
Library using Apple TV but I just need my screen to appear on TV...
I've been trying to guess and clicking everything on my Mac to see if I'm lucky to hit the airplay button but no luck yet :(
Any help would be greatly appeciated

The only way to turn on airplay mirroring would be toggling it via your Mac. Also, it wouldn't be recommended as a replacement for your main screen. Your best bet is to take in the Mac for repair.

  • How to use airplay with wifi dongle?

My mac's wifi adapter was broken, so I bought a wifi dongle - ASUS USB-N10.
It wasn't work until I installed the driver: http://www.wireless-driver.com/realtek-rtl8192su-adapter-macos-drivers-ver1082/
And however it seems to be a wifi assistant to help me using my wifi dongle more than a simple driver, and my mac recognize the wifi dongle as a lan connection, so I just cannot use airplay anymore!
The question is: how can I make my mac recognize the wifi dongle correctly (as a wifi)?

AirPlay is only compatible with AirPort base stations.
The dongle is not compatible with AirPlay.
