Airplay lag only on iMac.

So after searching through tons and tons of posts, and all over the internet. I still cannot work out, why I only get lag when airplaying from iMac. My iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPad mini and air 2, no lag at all. I can Airplay across the house, with these devices. And nothing. Yet my iMac, router and AT3 are all in the same room..and i get lag.
Im using a 27" late 2013 iMac, Apple tv 3. All are less than 2 months old..and I haven't got a clue what todo!
Help!

Have just tried Airfoil and then there is no problem. So it must be an iTunes issue...

  • Can Airplay mirroring work on TV only while iMac's Monitor is off?

    Hi there
Can anyone please tell me if airplay mirroring can work on an iMac the same way it works on iPhones? i.e. can it transfer the picture to TV only while iMac's screen goes off, instead of using both displays (iMac's screen and TV)?
It would be nice if it gives you the option to decide whether you would like to use both TV and iMac Screen -or- use TV only while the iMac display is off.
Surely someone have tried this by now but I can't find any posts out there mentioning this exact issue yet so...

I haven't tried this yet with mavericks but I can confirm that you are able to use the ATV as a second screen.  I am able to view a full screen mirror (as an extended desktop) on the ATV fo some streaming content while using the computers main display to work on something else on the computer.  It works well enough to allow someone to use the computer and another person to watch something on the TV at the same time.  So you may be able to watch the ATV mirror while having the main screen go dark (or vice versa I suppose).

  • I have two monitor speakers that I would like to airplay to from my iMac. Is this possible? Is there an adapter or receiver? The monitor speakers are KRK VXT8.

I have two monitor speakers that I would like to airplay to from my iMac. Is this possible? Is there an adapter or receiver? The monitor speakers are KRK VXT8.

They have a trial version you can test before you purchase. It limits you to 10 minutes of streaming before it starts inserting noise into the stream.
But you may not need it. I've read a bit further, and it appears that you may be able to stream any system audio to an Airport Express without needing AirFoil since you have Mountain Lion. I though it would work only with an Apple TV, but I've seen mention that it works with the AE as well (I don't have one to try). When you get your Airport Express set up, go to the Sound (speaker) icon in the menu bar, hold down the Option key, and click the icon. You may see the AE listed there as a selectable output device; if so, select it and all your system audio should be sent to the AE, including Spotify.
    Regards.

  • HT4437 I was able to bring a Video from Amazon Prime to my iPad, but with Airplay got only the audio through my AppleTv.  Any suggestions to get the video also (from iPad to AppleTv)?

Amazon Prime reply app does not allow video airplay - nor do several other content providers.
It must have something to do with digital rights/copyright.

  • I've been experiencing a lag on my iMac's volume control.

I've been experiencing a lag on my iMac's volume control, and have been reading some of the suggestions to fix this.  I tried "sudo killall coreaudiod " in Terminal, but that command is not recognized, and neither is my password.  Any one out there with an idea on how to fix this?
    Thank you

YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!  I reinstalled the program and everything. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! MY HERO!!!

  • Does airplay mirror only work with the ipad2 and not ipad1

does airplay mirror only work with the ipad2 and not ipad1

But can it still stream video wirelessly?
For example, with the Digital AV Adapter I can watch video on my TV, but obviously it's wired.
    I'd like a wireless option.

  • Airplay icon missing on iMac after installing airport extreme

Can't get my iMac to display the airplay icon after changing to the AirPort Extreme wireless router.
    Previous Setup:
Cable Modem ->LinkSys Wireless Router -> AirPort Express for Home Stereo access using Airplay
Accessed Airplay from iPhone 5S, iPad, iMac - all worked
    NEW Setup:
Replaced old wireless router with Airport Extreme
Cable Modem -> Airport Extreme -> Airport Express for Airplay on home speaker system
Airport Utility (v 6.3.2) see's both the Airport Extreme and the Airport Express
The Airport Express is in Network Mode of :Join a wireless network.  My AirPort Extreme wifi network is Why Phi
    The Airplay option is selected
My iMac does not see the airplay option in the menu bar.
Note:  The Airplay icon used to show up on my iMac before I had the AirPort Extreme.
My iPhone 5s see's the AirPort Express for airplay, and plays the music fine.
The display for my iMac is flagged to show for AirPlay but it doesn't see any devices.
If you know what I have missed, please let me know!  I loved the AirPlay option from my iMac, and would really like to get it back!

The AirPlay icon within iTunes appears when iTunes "discovers" that an active AirPlay-ready "speaker" is available on the network. In this case the speaker would be your AirPort Express base station.
It may be possible that the Express has not properly joined the Wi-Fi network provided by the new Extreme base station.
Anytime you change networking hardware it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of that hardware. Check out the following AirPort User Tip for details. Please post back your results.

  • My new Airport express mysteriously dropped all signals, I reset it and only my iMac is now connected to my network. My iPad, iPhone 4S and Roku box will not connect - any solutions to this?

My new Airport express mysteriously dropped all signals (due to lack of DNS settings ?!?!), I reset it and only my iMac is able to be connected to my network. My iPad 2, iPhone 4S and Roku box will no longer connect. Any solutions to this? Everything was using my netwoek before.

Did you power down your modem prior to resetting the Express?
If not, do it now. Leave it connected to your Express while you power it down. Let it rest a moment or two, then power it back up. Once it restarts, determine if all your other devices are able to connect.

  • IPad 2 can't AirPlay video, only audio available

I have an iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1 and an Apple TV 3rd gen.
I am trying to AirPlay but only the audio is audible and there is no display on the TV.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

    Hello scouserr,
You might try using AirPlay Mirroring from your iPad to your Apple TV.
    iOS: Use AirPlay Mirroring

  • HT204291 Really bag lag on AirPlay. Only just started happening

I have only recently started experiencing Lag on AirPlay. My Internet connection seems fine. I play songs through iCloud, it's just AirPlay that's become really poor. It was fine before. Any ideas would be really appreciated

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • HT201343 AirPlay Mirroring Not supported - After downloading OS X Mountain Lion I found out that AirPlay is only Supported for Mid 2011 or newer iMacs - Is there a workaround

I got a new Apple TV for Christmas, I read tha the OS X Mountain Lion supported AirPlay with the Apple TV, so I paid for the OS upgrade.  After the upgrade I found out that AirPlay is not supported on iMac's older than mid 2011.   This ***** because this was the only reasion I needed the upgrade,   It should have been more clearly posted that the features of the new OS were only supported on specific machines!
Short of buying a new iMac is there a way to use Airport Mirroring from my iMac to the TV ?
What other Mountain Lion features don't work on a late 2009 iMac ?

First, if you would have visted http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/ you would have seen there is a VERY LARGE and IN BOLD section that covers what functions of 10.8 are limited to what macs.  Second "needed the upgrade"... spare me.
To your, "work around" question a lot of people report a third party app named "air parrot" as pretty reliable.  You're welcome to try your luck with that.

  • Airplay audio only iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz

I have been researching this question.....
I have a iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz running OS 10.6.   I have not yet purchased an Apple TV but want to know if it is worth it.
I am not going to try to do any video via the iMac and the Apple TV - yes I realize I have hardware limitations.
I only want to stream audio from iTunes.   I figure I can try AirParrot and stay with OS 10.6 while adding the AppleTV.
Or upgrade to OS 10.8 (and hope my other software works).  Then, if I understand correctly, AirPlay audio will work on my ancient Mac.  Correct?
I guess I could do this via AirPort Express, but if I am going to spend $100, I might as well get the benefits of AppleTV.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?

airparrot is an alt to airplay mirror
airplay mirror is cloning what you see and hear on the mac to the tv over the appletv
airplay audio is using airport express and appletv as remote speakers one can use multiple at the same time
I have an appletv 1g the old alu one and an airport express so under my airplay icon right of the volume bar in the top of itunes 11.1.1 I have the options
    computer
    appletv
    airport express
if you don't have the icon looks like this
    http://cdn.cultofmac.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/itunes11airplaymultiplecontr ol1.jpg
then maybe your itunes is too old
or the appletv is not present on the same subnetwork as the computer some routers keep 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz and ethernet on seperate networks and one have to bridge them
sometimes if my appletv don't want to show up on the list I can get it to by on the appletv starting a song and then stopping it again
    my imac is 21.5" mid2011
and it also works fine with wifes macbook pro 13" from 2009 or something along those lines

  • ATV Airplay (audio only) starts then stops

Pretty much what the subject says. I'll start audio playback from iTunes 11.0.4 to 3rd-gen ATV that is running latest OS 5.2.1. Music plays for 1-2 seconds then stops. Sometimes I can start it again, but it will stop. Usually I can't start it again. The only fix has been to reset ATV by turning off the power, waiting a minute or so, then turning it back on. Then music will play for hours until I stop it when I leave or go to sleep. A short stop doesn't have a problem but a long stop say overnight will usually cause the problem to happen again.
This ATV is a replacement for one that had bad wifi; the old one was much worse than the replacement but the problem still happens.

  • Possible to Adjust Airplay Lag to Sync Multiple Airplay Speakers?

When playing to 2 different ATV2s, my iTunes music is not in sync between two sets of speakers.  Is there anyway to adjust the lag time to one of the ATVs?
    Here is my setup:
    - Living Room - one ATV2 hooked up to my TV via HDMI, with powered speakers hooked up to my TV's audio output;
    - Bedroom - one ATV2 hooked up directly to powered speakers (only used for music).
After reading through the forums, I am fairly certain the sync problem is due to the extra time my TV takes to process the audio signal before outputting the audio to the connected speakers.  But what I have not been able to find is a solution to this problem.  Basically what I need to do is delay the signal to the bedroom ATV maybe 0.5 seconds.  Are there any 3rd party applications that can fix this?  Will Apple ever release a solution?

    I just found something out about the Rogue Amoeba software Airfoil on another thread here. People are complaining that there is something wrong with the Pioneer recievers (my reciever as well) as this is where they experience the delay. I don't think they understand that the reciever, like your TV, is processing the signal before it outputs it to the speakers as opposed to basic powered speakers that just shoot the signal out. Anyway the aforementioned software has an option to delay the signal of the individual airplay devices. I have used this software before and it has given me fits with much more severe sync issues in the past, but that was years ago now, so maybe they have fixed that. I haven't tried it recently.  Anyhow, here are the instructions I found for individually syncing the devices using the Rogue Amoeba Airfoil;
We do offer a manual sync adjustment, as a debugging tool, in Airfoil. Please note that this is not supported for everyday use - on a network which is functioning properly, it shouldn't be needed at all. That said, you can try it if you like.
To enable the sync adjustment, follow these steps:
    1) Quit and re-launch Airfoil while holding down the option key. This will bring up the debugging window.
    2) Turn the Sync Adjustment debugger to On, and click Done.
Now each remote speaker will have an additional slider below the volume slider - that's the sync adjustment. The center is 0 offset, and the ends are +/-1 second. Adjustments only take effect when connecting, so if you're experimenting with it, you'll need to disconnect, adjust, and then reconnect to see how well it worked.
Airfoil will remember your adjustments after you quit, even if you turn Sync Adjustment off. (All that does is enable/disable the GUI, not the adjustment settings.)

  • ATV2 Mountain Lion Airplay Lag

I have a MBP 2011 running Mountain Lion now and I was looking to stream video from it to the ATV2 we have in our living room however the mirroring is show dabilitating lag. For my router I am using an Apple Time Campsule with 2TB drive I tried using the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz signals with the 5 GHz showing slight improvement. When mirrioring is set up there is a major latency for any action, often around a full second for every action. Movies are unwatatchable, they continuously stutter, dropping up to 6 seconds per scene. When trying to stream nothing else was connected to the router. The router is up one floor in our house where the cable comes in but I don't know if that causes that much of a delay. I was wondering if there was any way to fix this. I was even thinking about buying an airport express and wire it to the Apple TV but I wanted to make sure this would fix it before I sink the money into it.

I have the  ATV3, but have the same issue while using Airplay with Mountain Lion; though probably a little less lag than what you described. Switching my Airport to 5GHz made no difference from the 2.4 GHz. Once I ran a direct ethernet cable straight from the iMac into ATV it ran perfect. However, I had to move the computer downstairs to do it. That kind of defeated the point of Airplay. Good luck.
