Airplay - MacPro Stopped Working

I have an Early 2008 Mac Pro and a new Apple TV.  Audio output, via Airpay, worked just fine from my Mac to the AppleTV until I just tried it again today!
I tried restarting the Mac and the AppleTV.  The option appears in the Audio Output on the Mac, but when selecting it, it doesn't send audio there and defaults back to the internal speaker after a min or two.
I'm at a complete loss.  Airplay is working just fine on my iPod to AppleTV, so I'm guessing its a problem with the Mac, possibly since updating to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  Seems lately most of the Apple Updates break something somewhere.
Is there any way to "reset" the audio system on the MAc?  Any preferences to possibly delete?
Thanks.

Ok, i fixed it.
Just for documentation:
I started the MacBokk with Command-R
I choosed to reinstall Mountain Lion
After the system was installed again, AirPlay Mirroring was working perfectly again.
I had to update the system again, but everything is fine again.
All installed software is still working, so it was quite easy, no need to istall everything again.
Checking the console output, now the AirPlay agent seems to work, so this was definately the problem:

  • Apple TV Airplay Just Stopped Working

Apple TV Airplay Just Stopped Working.  I have a second Apple TV that still works with the same connecting devices and no problems.  Running 10.8 on my macbook Retina, iphone 5 is up to date and ipad has latest.  One day I went to connect and it wouldn't show on my macbook as an available airplay.
So frustrating, I have reset, re-connected via wifi, turned airplay on and off, checked setting on my machine, made sure I am on the same wifi network... still nothing.

BTW, I should clarify, I am specifically having a problem mirroring.  Home sharing is on and all my library is there, just no mirroring.

  • Airplay mirroring stopped working

    Hi,
    i have a problem which i can't solve.
My MacBook Pro Retina 15'' was able to use the airplay video mirroring on the AppleTV 3 without problems.
Some days ago, i saw, that the icon was not longer available in the menu bar.
The system settings just shows "No device found".
I can use the AppleTV for audio streaming without problems.
I tried another AppleTV (also with latest software) and it doesn't work, too.
So it seems to be a problem wirth my MacBook.
Is there any settings file, system component or other file, i should check (or maybe delete)?
I took a look into the system console and found the following entries regarding "airplay"
You can see, that i started audio airplay from iTunes, but there are two lines that may show some problem.
    Does anybody have a hint?

  • Airplay is stop working but network connection ok: airport express

    Hi,
I hope someone could help me, I can't find the solution.
I have an airport express which I use for internet access and airplay.
Sometimes when I awake (from sleep mode) my MBP (running OSX 10.6.8) airplay doesn't work anymore. It means Itunes says that remote speaker airport express cannot be found and airport utility can't find the airport express either. But internet connection still works perfectly!
So I have to reboot the MBP to get back my airplay service, the problem seems to be on the mac.
I have updated airport utility and airport express to the latest firmware, so I don't have any other idea.
    Would you have ideas?
    Thanks!

Found the fix under a different search. Turns out the Linksys router was blocking the iTunes. Have no idea why it would show up momentarily and then disappear though. In any event, the fix is:
I have a wired Ethernet network and run through a Linksys cable/DSL 4-port router. Model #BEFSR41. Here's how we fixed the problem step-by-step:
    1) Open a browser window and access the router control panel by typing in 192.168.1.1
    2) Click on the "Security" button at the top of the screen
    3) There are two subnav options under Security. Click on "Filter IP" (I believe it's already highlighted.)
    4) At the bottom of that page, there is a set of four or five radio buttons. One of them says "Filter Multicast". Mine was disabled. CLICK THIS TO ENABLED.
This fix comes directly from this post about getting Apple TV to work:

Hope this helps anyone else who has this problem!

  • Since updating to iTunes 11, my airplay has stopped working...please help

i turn on home sharing and it shows nothing on my appleTV, i found where it shows devices that are connected to airplay on my itunes and all it shows is "computer" in itunes and no appleTV, someone help please, i have no idea how to get it to work again...it was working just fine before i updated to the new iTunes although, I did have a bit of a issue with the home sharing when i was able to use it before, it would play like 2 songs if i was lucky, streaming i mean and then it would just load and i would have to constantly turn home sharing on and off just to get it to stop loading so that i could play songs again, it didnt seem to just continuously play...if your curious what appleTV im using, i guess its the latest one, 3rd generation as i just bought it less than a month ago, my mac is the latest Macbook (the white version) before they stopped making those...as you can see im not that computer savvy lol so i really need help, thanks in advance.

    Hi Adam
If someone has spilled some liquid there must be hardware malfunction and I assume that keyboard is defect now. Try to contact service partner and pick up some information how much the new keyboard costs. You can also a Google a little bit around and find which keyboard fit to your notebook model.
In my opinion you can exchange it alone.

  • Why did my airplay mirroring stop working when I downloaded the most recent update yesterday?

Yesterday, I open up my computer and I received a notification.  The notification said new software update, so I up the app store and get my update.  I sit down to work on words with my daughter using the airplay mirroring feature and I am stymied.  It is not popping up in neither my menu bar nor the display tab of system preferences.

I just needed a restart of my apple television.  Thanks Apple support . . .

  • Home sharing/Airplay has stopped working with iTunes to Apple TV

I have recently updated my Apple TV (3 days ago) and prior to that both Home sharing and Airplay worked fine between my Macbook and Apple TV. What do you suggest I do to fix the issue?

    Hello Burl3y,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're having issues with both Home Sharing and AirPlay between your MacBook Pro and AppleTV.  For troubleshooting the issue with Home Sharing, take a look at the following article:

  • Airplay audio stopped working

My roommate has an Apple TV that I used for the first time yesterday. All was well, my mac connected just fine, video and audio. But today when I did exactly what I did yesterday, turned on the apple tv and changed my Macs connection to the Apple TV it will show the video but no audio, with the exception of itunes. How do I fix it so youtube or anything through Mozilla Firefox can be heard through the tv as well as seen?

    try restarting your apple tv

  • Why did my phone's airplay stop working when I updated to ios 6.1.1

I recently updated my iPhone 4S to the new operating system ios 6.1.1, and I now cannot connect my phone to my apple tv through airplay.  I still can connect my wife's iPhone (3GS) to the apple TV, so I know it is not a network thing or something like that.
Does anyone know of a solution?
If you use airplay with you apple TV, I would reccommend holding off on the update until this error is fixed.

Today, I did a restore on my iPhone 4S, then reinstalled ios 6.1.1.    My airplay works now as I had set it up as a new phone instead of restoring the from one of the backups.
Sometimes when a person restores a phone from one of the backups, you will just reinstall the previous problem.  I also did not setup iCloud when I reinitialized my phone for I did not want the processing to be impeded.
I'll setup iClould later and see if that causes airplay to stop working as I think that was the cause.
I believe the problem was that there was just too many apps running in the background and too little ram and/or processing power left for airplay.  With the new ios 6.1.1, it probably takes up more processing than previous versions and just enough to shutdown airplay and keep it from running.
Miket502,  you might have a simular problem.  I'm not telling you what to do with your phone, but it may be a solution to do what I did.

  • AirPlay mirror on Apple TV stops working when a Skype or Google conversation is started (iOS 7)

I thought it would be nice to see Skype contacts on the large screen and realised this should be possible using my Apple TV, but AirPlay (in mirror mode) on Apple TV stops working when a Skype or Google + conversation is started after showing all right on the TV till that point. I'm using iOS 7 and the problem occurs on my iPad 2 and iPhone 5. Facetime seems to be OK, and Skype works over Apple TV when using my daughter's MacBook Pro (though I haven't tried Google + on it), so I deduce that the issue is with iOS 7. I have had success one or twice with using Skype in this manner on my iPhone so it is not consistant, but this is rare and hasn't happened in my latest attempts. Unfortunately some of my Skype contacts don't have an Apple device so I often can't use Facetime.
Is there a work around, or has Apple acknowledged this issue and said there will be a fix?

    Same problem here.
iPhone 5s + apple TV + Skype all are up to date. Mirroring is working until the video signal starts, after that the Apple TV goes back to the Apple TV starting screen.

  • AirPlay Mirroring Target has stopped working

I'm attempting to record a demo from my iPhone 5 using the Reflector app (AirPlay Mirroring Target).  When I attempt to save the recorded video (MP4 is the only option available), I get this message:
AirPlay Mirroring Target has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I recorded and saved the recording back on April 15 without this error, but now it just shuts down the Reflector app completely.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Airplay stopped working on ipad3

Hi airplay previously worked fine on my ipad 3 - streamed to my apple tv which is plugged in to the router.
Suddenly it has stopped working - I open airplay on the ipad, select apple tv , it pauses for a while then flicks back to ipad selected.
I've seen a post that says I shoud give different names to the 2.4 and 5 ghz ssids of my router - I'm looking into that, but it is not easy (isp modded the router and doesn't distribute any technical details / manual - good game!).  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks
Rebooting the router fixed this problem.

  • ATV3 Airplay stopped working

I recently set up my Apple TV 3 in my college dorm, which uses a WPA2 Enterprise network, to airplay from my 2011 MBP on 10.8.2. It was working fine (Airplay, mirroring, home sharing), then all of a sudden Airplay and Mirroring stopped working. The icon still appears in the status bar of os x and iTunes, but whenever I select Apple TV as my audio device in preferences, it hangs for a while and then reverts back to internal speakers. If I try to start mirroring, it changes my screen res but nothing displays on my TV, then after about 30 seconds it reverts back. If I try selecting Apple TV within iTunes, It hangs on 'Connecting to "Apple TV"' for a while, then reverts back to internal speakers.
I've tried restarting both my computer and ATV multiple times, I've done a factory restore of my ATV3, turned off bluetooth on my MBP and ATV, disabled IPv6 on my MBP. No luck so far.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I should also point out that home sharing is still working, as are all other apple tv apps (youtube, nba etc)

  • Why did my airplay on iPhone and iPad stop working

My airplay stopped working on my iPad 3 and my iPhone 4S.  Could it have something to do with the most recent iOS update?

Thanks Curt.  I just figured it out.  I right clicked on Filmstrip which gave me an option of Reset in the drop down menu.  I clicked on Reset and got my Filmstrip view back.
