Airplay mirroring does not play audio on airplay speakers

Hello!
I just got an airplay enabled hi-fi system and using it with my apple tv = very nice indeed. However, I just upgraded to Mavericks to use mirroring and when I do, the sound comes from the TV speakers and not the airplay system. It seems going into mirroring reverts the airplay setting in the apple tv menu where you select the speakers. I have also tried holding down the select button on the remote which does not bring up a menu with speaker options.
Does anyone know if it is even possible to use airplay mirroring and have the audio come from airplay speakers?
Setup:
Macbook Air (mid '11) running OS X Mavericks v 10.9.1
Apple TV 3rd gen latest update
Many thanks,
Joakim

Repairing Permissions is a fairly standard Mac maintenance procedure. The particular problem I shared with you involved mirroring from a Macbook Pro laptop which I had just upgraded to Mavericks, partly in order to have the mirroring capability.
I have used mirroring from my iPad (which doesn't have the transparency of such maintenance tasks as permissions repair on mac computers with OSX) without any issues of any kind, so I can't address how to fix the problem on those machines.
One reason I wanted to have mirroring on the MacBook Pro was to have the features I prefer on it to the iOS environment on the iPad. Easier typing, easier navigation, and, it must be said, accessible maintenance procedures.
If you're interested in repairing permissions in OSX on Mac computers, though, I'll be happy to explain it, but you'll find it discussed many, many times on these support fora.
If your iPhone/iPad have the problem with audio that I had with my MacBook, then I think you should step outside the AirPlay discussions and go directly to the support communities for those devices to learn what, if any, maintenance tasks are available to users. This is beyond my experience.
I hope you have as much luck with your iOS devices as I did on the computer in this situation!

  • Macbook Pro does not play audio part of video

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro (early 2013 with OS 10.10.1).
A colleague sent me a video file, which was originally recorded in MTS format. The sound portion of it does not play on my machine, although it generally can handle MTS. I have a colleague with a Windows PC, for him the audio plays ok. I have another colleague with an older MBP, for him the audio also plays ok. But then I have two more colleagues with a newer MBP like me, and for none of us the audio plays at all. The strange thing is that I can open the file in various editors such as Premiere, Audition, or Logic Pro, and they would all show the waveform of the audio, even the VU meters react normally, but there still is no audible sound.
On the machines that play the sound, we have tried converting the video and exporting the audio portion into various other formats, but with the very same result. None of them play sound for me. This is extremely weird and we have no answer what could be the problem.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot & best regards,
    Rainer

    Hi Eric,
    thanks for the reply.
As I said, we had tried several editors and players, as well as all kinds of formats, using all kinds of converters, but so far to no avail.
The AAC codec is a common codec for the Mac, so there should be no need to convert it. I have videos with that codec that play ok. It already turned out that converting the video file to other formats does not make any difference.
    But thanks anyway,
    Rainer

  • HT201335 Airplay mirroring does not work

I am having trouble getting the Airplay mirroring to work between my iMac (10.7.5) and my brnad new Apple TV (latest version).  I can play music and video from iTunes to it but cannot get the icon to change in the top bar on the iMac.  All devices are on the same network, and I am able to send videos from my iPhone to the Apple TV as well.  The iMac is connected to a CenturyLink Router vis a wired Ethernet connection and the Apple TV device is connected via wireless. I even turned on the wireless connection on the iMac so they were both on the wireless connection.  I have tried pretty much eveything I can see listed here in the help sites to have the deive show up and I cannot find what I am missing
    Your help would be appreciate!.

Sorry. I should have included this in my original message. The iMac was purchased in 2011 and is a MC813LL which according to the website should work. Thanks for the quick response though.

  • Apple TV plays sound, but does not play video on AirPlay

    Hello,
I'm having a strange malfunction with my Apple TV (latest model) and my iPad 2. I have updated both to the latest software.
When playing a video I purchased through iTunes on the iPad 2, if I select the Apple TV via AirPlay, then only sound plays on the Apple TV.
Now, if I attempt to replicate this problem with my iPad 3, there is no problem at all: the video and audio plays without issue.
The network is an AirPort Extreme (extended with an Express)
I've reset the Apple TV, the iPad. Nothing seems to work, anyone have this problem?
    Would appreciate any advice!

I am having the same probalem. It's very strange.  My ipad will stream videos purchased from Itunes to the apple tv.  However, when we try to use my wife's, only the sound comes up.  Both apple tv and ipad are fully update and have been restarted.  it's bizarre.

  • The audio does not play back from the speakers of my laptop, it plays only through headphones ?

Hi, I am not able to hear playback of audio from the speakers on my laptop. Only if I connect a headphone I am able to hear. Kindly help resolve.
    Regards,
    Vivek. V.

    Hi
    1) Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Remove any devices connected to the notebook.  Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook - check if the speakers are now working.
    2) Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.
    3) Go to device manager and uninstall the Sound driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
    4) Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
    5) Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Quicktime does not play audio

I've found that since upgrading to Lion, that some .mov files do not play the audio soundtrack when you play them in Quicktime 10.1.
Audio is fine in Quicktime Player 7
Is this a bug with Lion?

Some third party software can change the default settings in the Audio MIDI setup.
Open the app (found in your Utilities folder) and change the audio output settings to 44100Hz and try the file again.

  • Known issue: Cortana does not play audio through the default playback device (Windows 10 Insider Preview SDK and tools, April 2015 release)

When getting audio feedback from Cortana on a device with multiple playback endpoints (e.g., a device with a headset and an internal speaker), the playback may occur on the incorrect device. For example, Cortana may not send audio to the default device
after the default has been changed in the control panel.

There is no workaround for this issue.

  • HTML5 published content from Captivate 7 including slide audio does not play audio in DPS preview

I have added HTML 5 content to a DPS publication I am creating in Indesign CC. When I preview the content on my desktop I cannot hear the audio play when initiated. The content appears, but without audio. is this normal? I cannot publish to a device right now, and am just trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong.

I concur, but do not have the device with me today, and was wondering if this is a common discrepancy. Has anyone tested Captivate output with slide audio into DPS? Does it work?

  • Audition CS6 does not play audio

Audition CS6: My problem is that after importing an audio file and clicking on the play icon, I cannot hear any sound.  I'm using Windows 7 (all updates installed) on a desktop work station.  I began working with Audition CS6 two days ago while following a Lynda.com tutorial.  I installed the ASIO4All driver because the tutorial indicated it would provide the most features.  I did not attempt to play a file before the ASIO driver installation so I cannot say whether or not it caused my problem. [NOTE: I did create a restore point before installing the ASIO driver.]   Bottom line, I can play a song with Windows Media Player (WMP) but if I run Audition I get no sound and if I return to WMP I get a message that it is busy with another application; even after I close Audition.  Any suggestions?
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
That depends on why you are trying to install an ASIO driver.  ASIO drivers, when provided by the manufacturer of your audio device, allow direct access to your audio hardware from Audition.  This can result in lower latency, more simultaneous input channels, and better performance.  If you're working on multitrack recording projects, then you might want to use a device that supports ASIO.  But if you're just using the built-in audio chip on your computer, ASIO4ALL won't give you significantly better performance since it's acting as a middleman between the application, OS, and hardware.  What it can provide is a little flexibility if you're trying to use different audio devices simultaneously.
If you have 2 or more USB microphones, for instance, then ASIO4ALL can provide an interface that "wraps" the different devices and presents them as separate channels on a single virtual device.  Audition thinks it's talking to one driver - a necessity with ASIO - and ASIO4ALL handles the juggling of different device inputs and outputs.  If this isn't the sort of work you're doing, the basic Windows drivers (WASAPI or MME for older devices) should work just fine for most needs.

  • Spotify does not play audio from my desktop

DescriptionBefore today, Spotify worked fine on my laptop but now whenever I go to play a song the time will start but no audio will come out or the song won't start playing at all. Also, I am unable to jump to different points in the song; instead it just goes back to the beginning. Audio works with everything else on my computer so it's definitely a Spotify problem. I can still play Spotify through my phone and I can choose songs to play on my phone from my desktop, but I still can't play from my computer. A more detailed description, using numbered steps1. First I tried reinstalling it multiple times and it still doesn't work2. Then I checked my mixer and audio settings and they are fine3. I also checked around the community and couldn't find anything recent like my problem  What I expected to happenI hoped to get Spotify working right again What actually happenedThe same problem persisted My Operating SystemWindows 8 Is your Operating System 32 or 64 bit?64 bit Do you have a Service Pack installed?None My Spotify versionThe most recent version My internet provider and countryUnited States, but I have been in the Bahamas for work for a month now Did you do a clean install of your current Windows version or did you upgrade from a previous version? At first an update but then I reinstalled My usernamedavis3739

So I just took this from user JayLB and it solved my problem, it should help you out too. If this is the case then users are running into a corrupt cache issue of the spotity desktop app. Because when you change cache folders it writes new clean cache files and everything that was once Stored under C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Spotify again, when you instructed the app to write a new one into the folder selected by the settings changed. To fix these corrupted cache folder do this first. 1. Log out of the spotify desktop app and exit the app as well.2. Go to Task Manager, look for any processes that says SpotifyHelper.exe, select any and all of them and chose end task.3. Go to this file location C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Spotify, delete everything inside the folder. Do Not Worry the Spotify App will rewrite everything back when you load and log back into the app.4. Make sure to clean out your Recycle Bin as well.5. Log back in and see if the same problem persists. If it has stopped doing this, you removed the cache files that were corrupted successfully.6. You will need to reoffline any music you had again for offline playback. You might have to toggle playlists that where set for offline playback to online mode first, and then select them for offline mode again. If this did not work, then you need to double check if you where once a premium subscriber, double check in the Spotify desktop app settings that the High Quality Streaming option is not turned on. This playing tracks for a few seconds is a sign you might have let your premium expire on you, and you are still trying to stream in High Quality Option, the app won't play music correctly if this is set and premium has expired on your account.

    Hi everyone.
I'm experiencing this weird problem on every quicktime movie I open, both streaming and saved movies.
Anyone knows how to fix this without reinstalling everything?

Some third party software can change the default settings in the Audio MIDI setup.
Open the app (found in your Utilities folder) and change the audio output settings to 44100Hz and try the file again.

  • HT201335 The airplay mirroring is not working on Mountain Loin.

The airplay mirroring is not working. The AirPlay mirroring box states "No devices Detected" and will not let you select anything else. The Apple tv is updated and I have a MacBook Pro (Oct 2011)

    Rob
I don't disagree with much of what you are thinking/feeling, and many others too I dare say.
I do mention Airparrot but usually (not above) with some reservation saying some users report good things some others don't.  There is after all a demo and people should try that.
There is a big technical difference between Airplay from iTunes and Airplay mirroring.  The former simply has to send a preformatted h264 video stream (i.e. a file in the iTunes media library) to AppleTV across the LAN - there is no processing of this stream required, and AppleTV does the decoding.  The latter involves generating that stream live from individual video frames and also then streaming to AppleTV.
Apple seem to have gone for a hardware encoding solution for the stream using post 2011 Intel chip features detailed here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Quick_Sync_Video
They also seem to have decided not to offer a software solution for older processors - this is what grates - Airparrot clearly shows that many people can get acceptable performance on many earlier machines.
There are many many examples of instances where Apple has abandoned support for or left out features on older hardware - either playing safe avoiding underperformance or maybe something else.....
When there are genuine reasons not to support things that's fine.  When it's ambiguous customers get upset and might take their money elsewhere for future purchases.  Apple need to be careful as in the current climate things are pretty tight financially for most people, and they are not in the habit of replacing computers as often as mobile phones - I think the phone business model is clearly partly at fault.
