Airplay/Mirroring for video on VLC Player

I am expecting my mid-2013 27" iMac in the mail shortly but my question is can I watch VLC player via airplay/display mirroring on my TV?  I will be running the latest version of Yosemite. Is this possible with the Apple TV (sound included), or is there an alternative to the apple TV for this purpose?    I currently am using a thunderbolt-HDMI cable from my mid-2010 MacBook for this but would like to do this wirelessly.

VNC (build in Mac solution) need a VNC Server (source) and a VNC Client (destination) to work.
If you connect (screen sharing) two Mac's or a Mac and a PC you will have as well a sever and a client running.
As soon as your TV enables you to install a VNC Client and let you start it, you have what you want.
Apple TV receive a constant multicast stream from the source (e.g. your Mac) to display e.g. a video. Also ATV buffers a part of the stream to unpack the compressed data, decode video / audio and deliver screen and sound synchronous.
That is a total different technic compared to a screen sharing.

  • Airplay Mirroring and the Mac DVD player not working

Has anyone else experienced issues trying to airplay mirror the mac dvd player?  When I attempt to play a dvd while airplay mirroring is turned on the dvd player window just shows the checkerboard pattern and no video (this is on both the laptop screen and the tv screen).  If I take airplay mirroring off the dvd displays properly.

I had this same problem, and i read that it has to do with DRM. Even DVDs you make your self wont work because the DRM is set on the DVD player it self. You can use VLC and it should work, it worked with me. Anyways good luck.

It will be very nice to mirror keynote presentation, numbers sheets, etc wireless from a MacBook to a HD display or beamer.
Is the AirPlay  Mirroring feature on the roadmap for MacOSX ?

  • HT204291 Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and AppleTV while using Airplay Mirroring for the TV?

Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and Apple TV while simultaneously using Airplay Mirroring to view the computer screen on the TV? Whenever I try, by clicking on 'computer' radial button for volume in iTunes Airplay, the TV automatically reverts to the Apple TV screen. I usually end up using preferences to 'bring back' the audio to the computert while leaving the picture on the tv, but this means i have to suffer from the inferior sound quality of my Macbook internal speakers.

All I want is a shortcut for opening files with .avi, .mpeg, and .3gp exts. with VLC player. Please help me out by providing the exact stuff I need to paste in the applescript.

I just installed OS X Mountain Lion and trying to use airplay mirroring from my mid 2010 and i found that apple disable this fueture for under 2011.

  • Why no airplay mirroring for imac late 2009

Just upgrade to find the key feature Airplay Mirroring is not supported for my iMac late 2009. WHY??

Only some 2011 machines and newer are supported (excluding any Mac Pros).
The best theory is to do with onboard h264 encoding in Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge Intel chips:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Quick_Sync_Video
It seems likely that Apple feel a software only solution would not be feasible/acceptable on earlier models though Airparrot puts that in doubt.

  • HT201335 Airplay Mirroring for HBO Go or Amazon Instant Video

When I try to stream HBO Go or Amazon Instant Video from my Ipad to my Apple TV, the image starts then stops and states, "Watching videos with AirPlay or through HDMI isn't currently available with this app." Then, the sound comes through the television but no video. I just purchased the Apple TV and am using an iPad 2. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi.
In regard to your question, " If it doesn't work on iOS 5, then it shouldn't be in the store for iOS 5 devices. Right?"
The apps general purpose is to enable you to view content on the device. AirPlay compatibility is a secondary feature and was only recently added in Feb this year. So, making the app available to iOS 5 users makes sense.
The post I read specifically mentioned the problem of hearing audio but not seeing video via AirPlay that was resolved by upgrading the devices to iOS 6.
Unfortunately I ran across this thread while going through the Apple forums here trying to resolve the issue of the Airplay button suddenly not being available on any of my devices (a router reboot was the resolution btw). It was a pretty common result of every google search I tried so it shouldn't be hard to find.
I understand your hesitation to upgrade to iOS 6. I've held at 6.0 myself, which works fine, but 6.1 and 6.2 seem more trouble than benefit.

  • Imac airplay mirroring shut video

    Hello,
I'm using airplay to connect my imac to apple tv and watch on the tv the screen of my imac, is there a way to keep watching the mirroring screen on the tv but having the screen of the imac shut down?
I would like to sabve energy but at the moment the two screen stay open in parallel, if i close the screen of the imac then the tv screen goes black too.
If I use it to watch a movie with vlc then when I close the imac screen, on the tv I can only hear the sound but the screen stays black too.
    Any help?

You are displaying OS X 10.7.5 Lion.  You need OS X 10.8 or newer to mirror.  Your iMac also needs to be MID 2011 or newer, check that your one is the mid 2011.
If not a third pary app called airparrot will help.

  • Airplay mirroring for iPad2 and iPhone 4s

All my current, and less than 1 year old iOS devices, cannot use this feature.  How is it that I can Airplay movies and music fine but iOS 5 mirroring requires new hardware.  Come ON!

While this may be the most acceptable explanation, and probably accurate one, it would be nice to hear one from Apple.  While playing movies may be more computationally intensive than navigating through icons on your device, playing games with interaction may push the limits beyond usability.  This I understand and appreciate.
While I'm a big proponent of forward development, I do agree maintaining backward compatibility at the expense of performance doesn't exactly equate to innovation.  However, maintaining at least one release version, especially less than 1 year old,  isn't exactly asking too much.  Although we are all quite aware that purchasing new equipment is the convenient solution, you can't help having an audience with new technology and hardware purchased within the last year be somewhat disappointed.  This would have been a nice feature.  It is what it is.

  • AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2 without any wireless network setup

    Hi
I maybe jumping the gun here. Can anyone tell me that can this new feature of iOS5 work without any form of network.
What I mean is if I got AppleTV 2 , and iPad2, can I jsut stream what is on my iPad to AppleTV that is connect to a TV, without a Wif-fi or ehternet netork.
I search on the internet look like all the situation is that they still want inernet access for AppleTV, but in my case if there is no internet access for my AppleTV is fine, as I only want to stream what is on my iPad to a TV.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Stephen

IF you have a Mac you can use that to create a network, turn on Wifi, under the Wifi tab click "create network"... give it a name... WEP encryption if you like... and voila you have a wifi network that your iPad and apple TV should be able to see and use without needing to connect to the internet.

  • My itunes stalls or skips whenever I'm either using my VLC player or Modzilla/Firefox browser and going from page to page especially when I attempt to view a video?

I have re-installed successfully iTunes without solving the problem that it skips, freezes or otherwise doesn't work correctly whenever I'm viewing video on VLC player or attempting to view videos online?
Also, when playing music on iTunes my VLC video player pauses during song transitions?
Also, when dowloading music it sometimes shows a dot instead of the ioTunes music note logo abd iTines refuses to import or convert it into the iTunes Library?
I'm about to junk iTunes altogether for another player, however, I've used iTunes for nearly 11 years and love it!

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Sometimes it's necessary to uninstall then reinstall that plugin.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now launch Safari and try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
You may also need to delete the cache associated with Safari .
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

  • Why is iPod touch ineligible for airplay mirroring?

i have an iPod touch 4th generation.... I would like to buy Apple TV so I can watch my iPod touch on a larger screen. I recently found out that iPod touch is not eligable to be used for AirPlay mirroring. Why? iPhone and iPod touch are not that different except the fact that the iPhone 4s has the A5 chip and the iPod has the A4.... If there is any solution for AirPlay mirroring for iPod touch let me know please... Thank You!

The 4G iPod does not have the hardware to support mirrioring. You need an iOS Device with an A5 procesor..
