Airplay, mirroring, Keynote and image resolution

There are two ways in which a Keynote presentation running on iPad 2 can be mirrored on an external monitor: (1) through Airplay and Apple TV, or (2) by connecting directly to a monitor using the Digital AV Adapter.
My question: is the resolution of the images in the Keynote presentation (which were prepared on a Mac and not on the iPad) impaired in any way when they're displayed on the external monitor? Are both of the above methods equally good?
Or expressed in another way: Would the images look sharper/better if the Keynote presentation was running on a Mac laptop connected to the external monitor?
Your input/help on this would be much appreciated!

Sounds like an OSX issue... try posting to the appropriate Mac forum.

  • AirPlay Mirroring Alternative and Development

    Hi everyone,
I' just downloaded the new Mountain Lion and as many others probably, too, I was looking forward to the AirPlay Mirroring function the most! Now I've read that the minimal requirement is a MacBookPro from Early 2011. Mine, unfortunately is not younger than Mid-2010. I have a Intel Core Duo Processor with 2.4GHz and 4 GB RAM.
Is there any hope that Apple will enable the feature for other (older) machines as well? Or is there an elegant workaround to mirror the display via AirPlay and an Apple TV to another target?
Would be really, really disappointing to wait months for the new OS X and the feature I was most excited about isn't working for me and probably million others as well...
Thanks for you answers. Looking forward to hear from you!
    Cheers

Airparrot has limitations and does not work properly with some NVIDIA cards.  After I installed it, my MBP would go into screen saver mode for no reason, even while I was in the middle of actually doing stuff.

Unfortunately these issues are related to a bug with Apple's Nvidia drivers on earlier MacBooks. The only way to remedy this is to remove the AirParrot driver or to disable your screensaver. The following Macs will have this issue when using the External Display driver in AirParrot: MacBookPro5,5 MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009), NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, MacBookPro5,4 MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2,53 GHz, Mid 2009), NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, MacBookPro5,3 MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT and GeForce 9400M. We've provided this tool to remove the graphics driver.
This problem also affects mid-2010 MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512 MB.

  • Airplay Mirroring Lags and Sputters

With Mirroring I have Extreme Lag and Sputtering. Video is unwatcahable as well as any work with it. My set up includes:
Apple TV 2 with high-grade cables (works fine streaming anything native on ATV2 as well as my iPhone 4s)
    MBP 15" i7 2.2 GHz with 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD
Time Capsule 2TB with 5 GHz Network enabled
Tried using both built in Mountain Lion Airplay Mirroring as well as AirParrot, both lag pretty bad with AirParrot being better.
There wasn't anything else running on the network and I only was running one-two apps at a time.

I think we're a way off from a perfect wireless second monitor. A year ago I tried a few on the iPad and had the same lagginess and haven't been inclined to try anything since. I just don't think Wi-Fi is the way to go. Maybe in about 2 or 5 years from now we will have a suitable wireless solution for a monitor. It's hard to predict at this point.
The best way to view your content is to create a dedicated server. LaCie makes a Media box like Apple TV with less bells and whistles, but it will play a lot more file types if you don't want to convert your videos. The only drawback to it is that you would have to purchase and install Twonky Server to get it to work (it's about $20-$30) as well, and to be honest, it just doesn't work as well on my Mac Server as it did on my Windows Server.
Of course, the other option is the one I stated above.
I was lucky in that I've always converted my videos to mp4 because I always believed that it was the most universal. I use a dedicated file server with iTunes running and my Apple TV works great with it.

  • Airplay mirroring errors and problems since Mavericks 10.9.2 update

Since the 10.9.2 update, I get an error saying I am unable to mirror airplay to my Apple TV occasionaly.  When I restart my computer, mirroring will work.  But then after so long I will get the error again and be forced to restart.  Anyone else have this problem or have any fixes?
P.S. - I do not use AirParrot or the like.

I started this topic, because I could not find anyone else with my same issue.  My airplay works flawlessly (both audio and video) but then my Mac occasionally requires a reboot when I want to begin using Airplay again at a later time. Many people also had 3rd party software that conflicted with Airplay.  I have never downloaded such 3rd party software that mimics Airplay.  Again, any help would be appreciated.

  • Final cut dropped frames and image resolution

I am working on a project involving placing a logo image over the video (simple). I have done this before with great results. I am trying the same with another project and I get warned that one or more dropped frames may have occured in playback. If I export to movie to .mov from FCP the movie has an issue in this area. If I disregard and export using compressor the movie plays fine but the logo image gets messed up....What am I doing wrong? How do I get fcp to stop dropping frames? what is the best file format to import a image into fcp (I have used a .png as I need the clear background)? I doesn't seem like I used to get this warning of dropped frames before. I have repaired permissions. I am stuck now.

    Also,
Would this have anything to do with importing movie as a .mov vs. the original .dv format?

  • HT201335 AirPlay mirroring turns on initially and then keeps turning off and will not stay on?  What is wrong?  How can I fix this?

When I AirPlay - mirror my iPad to the apple tv, it initially turns on, but then kicks off my iPad over and over again and will not connect or stay connected.  What is going on?   How can I fix it's issue?  Sometimes it AirPlay/mirrors fine, and other times it does not like to connect at all.  What can I do?

Intermittent issues are often a result of interference. Check www.istumbler.net (netstumbler for windows). Refer to router manual on how to change channels, make sure it's up to date.

  • How can I get AirPlay mirroring to fill widescreen? It works automatically for apps built for apple tv, but not Hulu Plus, for example, which letterboxes.

Airplay mirroring works great for apps (mostly video-related ones) with native Apple TV support, but for other apps - most notably Hulu Plus, it will only show letterbox on my 16:9 plasma TV. Again, my movies, tv shows and in-app videos like in CNN where there's a built-in AirPlay support will fill my widescreen, but apps that don't (Hulu Plus, games, photos) will not. Do I have to change the aspect ratio on the tv to 4:3? Will changing the resolution help.
How can I get mirroring to fill the entire tv screen, regardless of the app? Thanks.

Guys. Let's not get confused here.
-AirPlay mirroring feature 'mirrors' what's on your iPad 2 or above or your iPhone 4s on to your big TV via the Apple TV black box.
-Video apps that stream video (like native YouTube app) uses AirPlay which is different to mirroring.
-When you use the 'mirror' feature you get black bars all around (left/right & top/bottom)
-There are Games that use the full screen via the AirPlay mirroring feature and there are games that don't. It depends on the Game. For example download Asphalt 7:Heat and you'll notice you get widescreen display on the big TV but if you play Batman or Max Payne or others that don't support AirPlay mirroring then it you get black bars left and right.
-What's neat about the AirPlay mirror feature is that when you play Asphalt 7 with 'mirroring' set to on, the race is shown on the TV while your iPad shows something completely different (the route in real time with your rear view mirror)
-The Apple iPhoto app on your iPhone 4s or iPad 2/3 with AirPlay mirroring feature on you get a different experience. All of a sudden it goes full screen, and you are presented with their iPhoto logo.
-Those who have the first generation iPad don't have mirroring capabilities so the Asphalt 7:Heat games feature aren't available or the iPhoto app features. With iPad 1 you can only stream video or music or image slideshow (which all stream full screen). iPad 2 and iPad 3 can also do this but with the added benefit of 'mirorring' what is displayed on the iPad screen. Some apps take advantage of this, some don't.
There are no special setting on Apple TV to get rid of the black bars. You may be able to change the zoom settings on your actual big TV.
Hopefully this will clear this all up. I have the iPad 1 and recently upgraded to the new iPad 3. I also have an iPhone 4s. Same issues.
I don't think the AirPlay 'mirror' feature has developed fully yet. It has it's limitations but also has its advantages.

  • Why did my airplay mirroring stop working when I downloaded the most recent update yesterday?

Yesterday, I open up my computer and I received a notification.  The notification said new software update, so I up the app store and get my update.  I sit down to work on words with my daughter using the airplay mirroring feature and I am stymied.  It is not popping up in neither my menu bar nor the display tab of system preferences.

I just needed a restart of my apple television.  Thanks Apple support . . .

  • AirPlay mirroring with my MacBook Pro

Can someone kindly advise on how I can use my Apple TV so I can use my TV as the main screen instead of my MacBook Pro.  And the same with IMac? Having a hard time whereas the iPhone 5 is straightforward . Suggested would b very much appreciated.

There might be preference options for Airplay in the settings. Also go into Apple TV settings and make sure Airplay is enabled in the options. Then all you have to do is make sure that the Apple TV is on and click the Airplay icon on the top bar on your Macbook. The icon is that rectangle with a solid triangle infront of it. Once you click on that click Apple TV and it will mirror it. Once you've finished it click Airplay Mirroring : On and set it to off.
I find airplay a really useful feature as i used to do similar things with old PCs and DVI cables. Hope this helps.

  • Bad image resolution on TV when mirroring.

I have AppleTV HD and Macbook Air (OS10.8.1). Mirroring worked pretty nice for 3 months, but recently the image on my TV started to have very bad resolution and slow response to image changes. I checked out all wires, internet connection, reset all devices, including TV multiple times. Nothing helped out!
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

This solved my questionRe: No Audio when Airplay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV
Aug 5, 2012 9:42 PM (in response to tdnorton)
I had this same problem and I think I just found a solution. Turn on your Apple TV. BEFORE turning on the mirroring, change the output audio on your computer to Apple TV in System Preferences. After that, turn on the mirroring and the sound should be coming out of your tv."

  • Airplay mirror imaging icon will not show up on my macbook pro even though i downloaded mountain lion. How do i get airplay icon to appear on my macbook pro?

i have a macbook pro (almost positive that its a 2010 version) and i got mountain lion. The BIGGEST AND MAIN REASON i bought mountain lion was so that i can do airplay, allowing me to mirror image what is on my mac to my Apple TV. my whole computer is updated as far as the displays and newer features but the small airplay icon will not show up on the top of my screen. therefore, not allowing me to mirror image what is on my mac to my tv... it is connected to the same wifi as my apple tv. idk what to do. could it be because my macbook pro is a 2010? desprately looking for help...please help me with this issue
    thank you

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so your MacBook Pro isn't supported.
To mirror your MacBook Pro's display onto the Apple TV, you can use an application like Beamer or AirParrot even if AirPlay Mirroring isn't compatible

  • HT4437 how to use airplay mirroring between ipad3 and apple tv without any internet or wifi

I do presentation and a lot of the time, there is no wifi or internet connection available in the room (school, church, community center).
Is there a way to use airplay mirroring so I can use my powerpoint or my keynotes from my ipad to the apple tv?
I also have a macbookpro, I know there is a way to create your own network with the macbookpro, how don't remember how, but would prefer not to have to carry my macbookpro.
    thanks
    Christian

You can stream the content with a local connection. You dont need "internet", but need to connect the apple tv to a wireless router(plugged in with no internet) or hardline. Then connect the ipad wirelessly to the same router. Its a basic internet setup without the "internet ethernet cord" plugged in.

  • HT201335 Airplay Mirror Poor Image Quality on CBS app - help?

Airplay mirror from iMac/iPad to HD TV w/Apple TV has a Poor Image Quality when watching network shows via for example the CBS.com site or the CBS app. The image looks dark, not HD at all. My internet speed/performance is obviously not the issue because Hulu, Netflix etc all come in great using Apple TV ~ sorry, not all that savvy in this department, is the poor picture down to it just being a mirror of the iMac or iPad or is there a setting or something I am missing?

You should use the Acrobat extra menu in word 2010: then edit Preferences and choose Conversion settings : High quality print
    Hope it helps

  • Can i connect ipad 3 to aprojector throught vga adapter and can i then mirror keynote presentations

can i connect my ipad 3 to aprojector throught vga adapter to mirror keynote presentations

I don't know if there is a Dock-To-VGA Adapter in the Store, but there is a Dock-To-HDMI-Adapter.
Newer projectors have an HDMI-Input-Slot. (30$ Adapter +10$ HDMI-Cable (if it doesn't exists)
    You also could buy on top a HDMI-To-VGA-Adapter (30$ Adapter1 + 30$ Adapter2 + 10$ VGA-Cable (if it doesn't exists))
An deluxe solution would be an Apple-TV
    + HDMI-Cable
    or + HDMI-To-VGA-Adapter + VGA-Cable
now you can use AirPlay by setting up an adhoc WLAN from your iPad which the Apple TV can use.
Cause I have an Apple TV, I take that with me with the adhoc WLAN setup of my iPhone.
All settings are done, so it's only a plug in at the room where to hold that presentation. Wirelessly from my iPhone Keynote-App via AirPlay to AppleTV (Mirrow or as second screen, with seeing notes and controls on my iPhone) and from Apple TV to the projector.

  • Airplay Mirroring FAIL ON NEW IPAD AND EARLY 2O11 MBP HELP! But pass with IPHONE 4 S!!!

Ok let me start by saying I have a Iphone 4s and is mirroring perfectly with my APPLE TV but on the OTHER HAND I also have the NEW IPAD that can play youtube videos perfectly and see photos through mirroring/airplay BUT it can't scroll to my home screen nor can't surf the web while mirroring and it's fustrating.  I also have a Early 2011 Macbook pro which it worked in the beginning and loved it but suddly stop mirroring or airplaying!!!! What do you think is wrong? when I Airplay/mirror with my IPHONE 4S it's fast and responsive but with my ipad and my macbook it just fails ugh!!!! so irritated...I also have a APPLE TV 3RD gen up to date... lmk if you could help me out that would be amazing...-matty

    Hi marcmartineau,
I'm not sure why this is happening, but I think I'm seeing the same thing. Many times when I get an email on the iPad or iPhone with a picture attached, I don't see the picture but instead just a placeholder icon.
I have found a work around though to at least see the picture. If I forward it and include the attachment, I see the picture in the outgoing email. I can even save the image from the sending email if I really don't want to send it. If i do send it to myself, chances are I will see the picture in the email when I receive it even though it's just a resend of the original.
    weird.
