Airplay mirroring on tv makes a buzzing/static sound

Hi i have a macbook pro early 2011 and basically i've been using airplay mirroring and up until a few ago the sound was fine. But now i have constant buzzing/static sounds coming out of the speakers of my denon amplifier.
This sound only comes out when mirroring but not when i'm simply airplaying music via the sound output.
Any ideas of what this might be?
thanks in advance

  • AirPlay Mirroring via ATV3 really laggy and awful sound

    Hey all,
I'm a bit frustrated, I got the new MacBookPro 15" retina (i7 2,6 Ghz, 16 Gb RAM) and also bought the new AirPort Extreme and an Apple TV 3 gen.
Now all 3 devices are in the same room few meters away from each another (no thick walls, no microwaves, nothing i can think of that can interfere).
5Ghz N network enabled and the MacBookPro and the ATV are on it, while the iPhones (mine and my wife's) and her white MacBook (+ a 1st gen Time Capsule 1Tb running as a network extension in another room) are on the 2,4 Ghz network (Just connected nothing is downloading, back-uping or anything). I have all other applications except the video player (VLC) quit and yet i cannot watch anything because of the massive lag.
Tried different video formats (encodings) and video files resolution but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Tried restarting the Airport station, the ATV and my MacMookPro and it didn't help. There are few seconds now and then when it doesn't lag but then the audio really gets bad.
All firmware and OSs are fully updated. ATV3 is not jailbreaken. All used applications are final versions.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.
    Alex
    P.S.
Sometimes the connection between the MacBookPro and the ATV just drops and I have to wait untill they reconnect and then restart AirPlay Mirroring before I can continue watching. I have the feeling this might be part of the same problem whatever it is.

    Thanks for the suggestions, but...
Apple TV is, as advertised by Apple, to be fully capable of streaming full HD ( 1080 p) over an N standard wifi network. I'm aware of more than 1 set-ups (including my brother's home) where the ATV is set in absolutelly the same conditions (even with the same hardware) and works just fine.
Are you suggesting the AirPort Extreme Base Station is "low to mid grade wifi hardware"? What would you substitute it with?
All devices described (except the iPhones) are on the 5Ghz network. Swithing them (all, including the ATV) to 2,4 Ghz changes nothing.
Well, the TV set is in a location in the room that I can't easily set a UTP cable to (where it is not visible), AND I hate cables. If I wanted a cable I'd use an HDMI to connect the MacBookPro to the TV directlly, which will defeat most of the purpose of having the ATV.
Apple made this quite awkward. I would love to run all my videos with only one player (especially airplay enabled one like iTunes), but unfortunatelly I can't. I have to convert them all to iTunes format first which is pain in the *** and I'm just not going to do it, and no one else is doing it either, btw. That's why I'm using VLC (being imho one amazing video player) that would just play anything you drop on it.
So, any other ideas what I'm doing wrong?

  • Airplay mirroring on Macbook Pro won't play sound

Ok, so I just updated the Apple TV to 6.0.2. Airplay mirroring works fine on my iphone and ipad. But when using it on the MBP, it won't let me hear the sound. The output to sound for the Apple TV is selected in the Preferences. I've restarted the MBP and the Apple TV. I've also Reset the Apple TV, but still nothing is working. It's not an app or music; even when I just show the desktop, and hit the volume buttons, usually you hear the tone for the button on the Apple TV. This does nothing now. I just tried Sudo killall coreaudiod, didn't work. Please help!

  • Buzzing/Static sound over music from iTouch

When I listen to music at a volume level that is about half as loud as the max, a buzzing or a very bass static sound begins to distort the music. It sounds like your listening to a song on a very staticy radio station. When the volume is turned down completely, the buzzing stops, but it returns when the volume is turned up again. The buzzing does not stop when the song is paused. The connection to the headphone jack or position of the headphones, or changing the headphones themselves, does not seem to have any effect on the problem.
What can I do to solve this problem? Is there a simple fix for this, or some troubleshooting tips that I can try?

I have this same issue except when I turn up the volume around 3/4ths of maximum overall volume, there's no static. Also when I pause the song, there is no static. However, when listening to the itouch in the medium volume area, there are tons of static, as if it's too loud. Would anyone please help me?

  • AirPlay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV intermittent sound drop-off

I can't stream iTunes or Spotify to my Apple TV without getting intermittent sound drop-out (say every 30 seconds) when I use AirPlay mirroring through my Mac. This odd thing is streaming through my iPad or IPhone to Apple TV is perfectly fine; so is using my Mac to stream to my Sonos speakers. I can even stream iTunes pefectly fine through only the Apple TV alone - so it's nothing to do with my broadband connection
I have today performed upgrades to the Apple TV and my Airport Express firmware but the problem persists. Anyone else experiencing this or found a solution?

Hi, same here for me. Using AirPlay for streaming music from my Mac Mini (iTunes latest version) to my ATV2 (software latest version) has intermittent drop-outs (about every 10 to 15 sec for 5 to 10 sec). At the same time streaming to my Airport Express station in the kitchen works fine. Using the VOX player streaming from the Mac to the ATV works fine, only that I can only stream to one destination. Tried streaming from iTunes to ATV only, the problem remains. Streaming video - even HD - works fine. Using the ATV to select music from my Mac's iTunes library works fine, too. Still I want to stream from my iTunes on the Mac to several destiations including the ATV. Seems to me to be a problem of iTunes. I think the effect appeared after an update of iTunes or OSX, because it had worked fine before, already.

  • Small buzzing static sound

when putting my ear closely near the keyboard, upper left area i hear a small buzzing sound. some what like a static sound... anyone experiencing same problems? other than that the sound can't be heard (should put your ears real close )
    thanks

We have 2 Macbook SR's in our family--both buzz. One of them is faint, the other is NOT. It's like the sound of a fluorescent bulb, only louder, and it warbles a bit. Drives me nuts!
My friend has a new MB and his buzzes, too.
Of the three, 2 are annoying but tolerable and the third one is going back.
It's like the original MBP whine, only more of a buzz than a whine.

I am tring to mirror ipad2. I just upgraded to IOS5. Is it an apple TV problem or an Ipad2 problem?
What should I try to fix the problem?

I think i found the solution.  I got mine working.
Reboot the iPad by holding down the Home button and power button at the same time for 6 seconds.  The screen will turn black, apple logo will appear, and it will restart.
Then restart the Apple TV.  (I just unplugged the power)
Then restart your wireless router.  (again, I just pulled the plug on it)
After doing that, i tried the mirroring again, and it worked great.  As soon as I turned it on, it appeared on my TV and is working very quickly.  (well, everything I do on the iPad is delayed on the TV by half a second)

    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

  • Presenting Keynote via AirPlay Mirroring Limitations

I just finished an annual awards banquet where I display a Keynote presentation on two screens and thought I'd share my experience.
The presentation is on my MacBook Pro, and this year, instead of running cables to both projectors, I tried running one of them using AirPlay Mirroring to an Apple TV. The other projector was still connected through the Thunderbolt port. (AirPlay can't mirror to two Apple TVs at the same time.)
First off, I could only make this work with the laptop lid closed. That's because AirPlay only mirrors the primary screen, and the projector connected to the Thunderbolt port is secondary--unless the lid is closed. Keynote has no option to present to BOTH the primary and secondary screen--it's one or the other. This isn't a big problem if you have an iPad or iPhone, however, because you can use Keynote Remote on the iOS device to run the show, and that's pretty slick.
Here's the big problem... When the Keynote presentation is static on any given slide for more than a couple of minutes, the AirPlay connection is dropped and the screen goes dark. This happened to me every time an honoree was giving their acceptance speech. In order to restart the show I'd have to open the laptop lid, switch to Finder and reconnect AirPlay to the ATV--all of which is unattractively displayed on screen for everyone to see.
If anyone has a work-around for this I'd love to hear it, but hopefully Apple will look at presenting Keynote wirelessly as an area that needs improvement. If you're interested in this, please submit feature requests to Apple! http://www.apple.com/feedback/keynote.html
To summarize, the limitations I found are:
    1. AirPlay won't mirror to multiple Apple TVs simultaneously
    2. Keynote won't present to the primary and secondary screens simultaneously
    3. AirPlay disconnects after a few minutes of static screen activity

Sorry for taking so long. Go to Settings and scroll down through the list of apps to Keynote, select it, and you will see the iCloud setting. But this workaround has not worked for me consistently.  Don't make changes to the presentation until you turn iCloud back on.

  • HT204291 Airplay mirroring. Macbook 2012 retina display. Unable to see desktop on television, audio works perfectly. Both OS on ATV and Mac are running latest versions

    Airplay mirroring.
Macbook 2012 retina display. Unable to see desktop on television, audio works perfectly. Both OS on ATV and Mac are running latest versions.
    Firewall set correctly (allow incoming...)
When I click mirroring to turn it on, teh Apple TV screen goes blank (from its home setting)
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi!
I figured it out! It was a firewall issue.
I use Handsoff and I checked it before i wrote here. There was no "user defined rule" that denied the communication but when i changed to "All rules" the program displayed several rules regarding AppleTV and its IP.
So if anybody has the same problem make sure you see all rules of your firewall and get rid of the AppleTV related rules generated by the program itself. You dont need to update to the latest iOS on the AppleTV!
I hope that I can help some people with this info to fix the problem.

  • Airplay mirroring on early 2011 macbook pro not mirroring

    First, here's what I have:
Early 2011 macbook pro (identifier 8,3) with 2.2 Intel Core i7 processor connected over Wifi on 2.4 Ghz channel.
    OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion
Apple TV 3 (fully up to date)
The stats I've read say airplay mirroring should work fine.  I can connect both machines just fine. I can stream movies just fine. I can send music just fine.  I just cannot mirror my desktop.  I have the icons, a connection is made, but all that shows is a blank screen. I've adjusted the resolutions with no luck.  I've shut down and rebooted both machines with no luck...
Any solutions or do I have to count my losses with Apple Airplay and spend more money on a 3rd party alternative (AirParrot)?

    Hi eoinodonnell,
The problem was resolved, but I have the worst answer... it just started working, and has remained reliable since.  I never found out exactly what fixed it, but I would try these things:
    1) Try a factory reset on the Apple TV, and make sure your Macbook pro has all the latest updates.
    2) Try to repair disk permissions (better to do it from disk utility from boot menu) and reboot your macbook.
    3) Backup your files and do a fresh install of OSX.
I know I performed all these tasks, and possibly more, but something along the way did fix the problem.
I hope something here works!  If so, please let me know what did it.

  • How to disable airplay mirroring on iPad with ios7

How to disable airplay mirroring on iPad with ios7?

I've had this problem ever since I was at my friend's house- she has Apple TV- and my iPad connected automatically. So, I have no idea why any of the practical solutions that people think of are not options BUT, in terms of just getting it done, I did figure out a way. The key for me was getting near another Apple TV. I was out of town so I took my iPad to another friend's house who also has TV. Once I was logged onto their wireless network (the same network that their Apple TV is on-- that's how it connected in the first place), then the Airplay icon and options showed up from the bottom-draw menu and I was able to make sure that mirroring was turned off from the Apple TV section and to make sure the selection was on iPad instead. Problem solved. Now whether or not this will stay the same (rather than me having to make sure it stays at this setting everytime I link up to a network that has an Apple TV on it) I don't know. So my advice is find someone with Apple TV and connect to their network with your iPad and then change it.
