AirPlay mirroring...small picture on tv

I've looked everywhere and haven't found any mention of my problem. Hopefully someone else has seen this, and can suggest a possible fix.
I have iPad 2 and Apple TV 2 ...both successfully upgraded to iOS 5. AirPlay and mirroring also function ok...to a point. When I use the mirroring feature, I get a small picture that only fills the top left hand corner of my tv screen...not letterbox, it's full screen but small and uses only a quarter of the available screen real estate. I have an older rear projection tv that defaults to 480p...but that's ok, I've learned to live with that.  The AVT2 is connected directly by HDMI.  I've rebooted, reset, restored  and every other possible 're'. I've also adjusted the aspect ratio on my tv set, and tried all the available resolution settings on the device.  Everything else works just fine (including in-app airplayfunction). My only problem is the small iPad screen image I get on my tv screen. Anybody else have this problem? Any ideas?

I figured it out, I had the same problem and here is what I did to make my iPad full screen as opposed to only filling up about a quarter of the screen.
First I want to say that I did this on the latest update for the apple tv that just came out, so I don't know if this will work on older software.
All I did was select The Settings icon on the main menu
From there select Audio and Video and scroll all the way to the last option and select TV Resolution
If you haven't tampered with it yet the auto option should already be selected.  I have a 480p TV and found that when I selected 480p-60hz I got a full screen when mirroring.  I would suggest trying out all the resolutions from the bottom up and kepp checking to see if your mirroring turns to full screen after each resolution change.
Also,  If you find yourself staring at a blank screen because you chose a resolution that your TV doesn't support all you'll have to do is unplug the power supply on the apple tv for a few seconds and plug it back it, this will reset the resolution to auto again.
Let me know if it works for anyone.

  • Airplay mirroring sound but no picture

    Hello,
I've searched through the forums and have found several threads on mirror issues with airplay but none of the answers helped me get up and running.
I have reviewed the airplay guides on apple.com as well as the trouble shooting guides for airplay mirroring with no success. I believe all my system components meet the requirements but I still get sound with no picture when using desktop mirroring.
    I am using:
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    OSX Yosemite Version 10.10.1
    Apple TV
    Model A1427
    Software 7.0.2 (6915)
    Signal Strength is 5 bubbles
    Ipad
    4th Gen Wi-Fi
    Model MD510LL/A
    Software iOS 8.1.2
I have turned on airplay on my apple tv and restarted / reconnected it several times. I have also restarted my mabook pro several times. Airplay mirroring works fine on my iPad i just can't seem to get picture from my macbook. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello there, Aprov.
Great job being thorough on troubleshooting the issue and isolating it down to your Mac. At this point your next step would be to follow the recommendations in the following Knowledge Base article for troubleshooting with an alternate user account:
Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support
If you isolate the issue to only your user account, then the article offers the following recommendations:
If the issue happens in only one user account
If you have isolated an issue to a single user account, then you should focus your troubleshooting on that user and specific apps that have symptoms when logged in as that user. Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue provides some assistance with this. If you are just seeing the issue in one account, you most likely do not need to reinstall any apps.
Make sure you're using the most recent version of Mac OS X. If you're using a version of OS X Lion earlier than 10.7.4, see this article for assistance.
If you are seeing issues with an application unexpectedly quitting in just one account:
See this help article for additional assistance in OS X Mavericks.
See this help article for additional assistance in OS X Mountain Lion.
see this help article for additional assistance in OS X Lion.
Other, app-specific issues isolated to a single user account can be caused by a preference file (plist) or setting. Check the app's documentation or support website for instructions on troubleshooting specific preference or setting files. For example, iLife preference troubleshooting is documented in iLife: Troubleshooting Basics. If you are looking for help with troubleshooting a specific alert message or issue, you should try searching the Apple Support website for the text of the alert message you're seeing.
If you need more help with troubleshooting an issue isolated to a specific user account, you may wish to contact Apple Support. If you work with AppleCare to troubleshoot the issue, be sure to mention any troubleshooting steps you have already performed and the results, and the text of any alert messages you're seeing. You may want to take a screenshot of any alert messages so you can refer to them later.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Airplay mirror imaging icon will not show up on my macbook pro even though i downloaded mountain lion. How do i get airplay icon to appear on my macbook pro?

i have a macbook pro (almost positive that its a 2010 version) and i got mountain lion. The BIGGEST AND MAIN REASON i bought mountain lion was so that i can do airplay, allowing me to mirror image what is on my mac to my Apple TV. my whole computer is updated as far as the displays and newer features but the small airplay icon will not show up on the top of my screen. therefore, not allowing me to mirror image what is on my mac to my tv... it is connected to the same wifi as my apple tv. idk what to do. could it be because my macbook pro is a 2010? desprately looking for help...please help me with this issue
    thank you

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so your MacBook Pro isn't supported.
To mirror your MacBook Pro's display onto the Apple TV, you can use an application like Beamer or AirParrot even if AirPlay Mirroring isn't compatible

  • Airplay mirroring broke in 10.9.2

i just updated to 10.9.2 and now when i try and airplay mirror to my Apple TV, it sends the audio but just shows a black screen and i can't drag anything to it. It doesn't show any of the options for external displays in the displays section of System Preferences.
Any ideas? i tried reapplying the combo update with no luck

I have the same problem. But I could narrow it down to what might be causing it: When you start Airplay mirroring it starts the service and probably passes through the image. However, you cannot chose if you want to mirror your desktop or extend it. In the picture "Schreibtisch erweitern" means extend the monitor. But you want the other option "xxxxxxxxx spiegeln" (I have two computermonitors, that's why there are two options), which means mirror the appropiate desktop. But If I click on it, then it doesn't change from extended to desktop mirroring.

  • HT201335 Airplay Mirror Poor Image Quality on CBS app - help?

Airplay mirror from iMac/iPad to HD TV w/Apple TV has a Poor Image Quality when watching network shows via for example the CBS.com site or the CBS app. The image looks dark, not HD at all. My internet speed/performance is obviously not the issue because Hulu, Netflix etc all come in great using Apple TV ~ sorry, not all that savvy in this department, is the poor picture down to it just being a mirror of the iMac or iPad or is there a setting or something I am missing?

You should use the Acrobat extra menu in word 2010: then edit Preferences and choose Conversion settings : High quality print
    Hope it helps

  • Airplay mirroring problems from MacBook Pro only

I have the second newest MacBook Pro (the one that came out before the retina display) and an apple tv (Generation 3) that i just purchased last week. When i go to do airplay mirroring to put youtube or movies on the sound is perfect but the video is only a blurry picture of my screen and it updates the picture about once every minute and gets stuck on another blurred picture. but i also have an iPhone 4S and an iPad 2 and airplay mirroring work just fine on that. Any answers to this would be awesome!!!
P.S. i bought the Apple TV to stream the BCS Bowl from my MacBook to my tv and that day we used it the airplay mirroring worked Flawless, but since that day it has been acting screwy.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Airplay Mirroring FAIL ON NEW IPAD AND EARLY 2O11 MBP HELP! But pass with IPHONE 4 S!!!

Ok let me start by saying I have a Iphone 4s and is mirroring perfectly with my APPLE TV but on the OTHER HAND I also have the NEW IPAD that can play youtube videos perfectly and see photos through mirroring/airplay BUT it can't scroll to my home screen nor can't surf the web while mirroring and it's fustrating.  I also have a Early 2011 Macbook pro which it worked in the beginning and loved it but suddly stop mirroring or airplaying!!!! What do you think is wrong? when I Airplay/mirror with my IPHONE 4S it's fast and responsive but with my ipad and my macbook it just fails ugh!!!! so irritated...I also have a APPLE TV 3RD gen up to date... lmk if you could help me out that would be amazing...-matty

    Hi marcmartineau,
I'm not sure why this is happening, but I think I'm seeing the same thing. Many times when I get an email on the iPad or iPhone with a picture attached, I don't see the picture but instead just a placeholder icon.
I have found a work around though to at least see the picture. If I forward it and include the attachment, I see the picture in the outgoing email. I can even save the image from the sending email if I really don't want to send it. If i do send it to myself, chances are I will see the picture in the email when I receive it even though it's just a resend of the original.
    weird.

  • Can Airplay mirroring work on TV only while iMac's Monitor is off?

    Hi there
Can anyone please tell me if airplay mirroring can work on an iMac the same way it works on iPhones? i.e. can it transfer the picture to TV only while iMac's screen goes off, instead of using both displays (iMac's screen and TV)?
It would be nice if it gives you the option to decide whether you would like to use both TV and iMac Screen -or- use TV only while the iMac display is off.
Surely someone have tried this by now but I can't find any posts out there mentioning this exact issue yet so...

I haven't tried this yet with mavericks but I can confirm that you are able to use the ATV as a second screen.  I am able to view a full screen mirror (as an extended desktop) on the ATV fo some streaming content while using the computers main display to work on something else on the computer.  It works well enough to allow someone to use the computer and another person to watch something on the TV at the same time.  So you may be able to watch the ATV mirror while having the main screen go dark (or vice versa I suppose).

  • Airplay mirroring and external monitor

I have an Macbook Pro 15 that I just bought.  I am airplay mirroring to a external monitor.  I have a bluetooth keyboard and touchpad.  When I close the lid on the Macbook after I get the mirroring started, the external monitor goes blank.  When I open the laptop back up, I cannot get anything on the internal screen.  I cannot get it to do anything at all and then I just have to power it down and restart to get anything on the computer screen again.  I would like to know if what I am doing is possible?  Can you airplay mirror and then close the case on the laptop.  THanks

Here is what I just made work for me - and it isn't perfectly what I want, but at least my students will be able to see what I am coding.
In the Accessability Panel's Zoom settings I changed from Full Screen to Picture-In-Picture style zooming.
This works, but I would rather have a full screen zoom.
A side note: The cursor size, and grey scale work, but the color inversion and high contrast settings do not work on the mirrored display.
    It seems strange.

  • HT204291 Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and AppleTV while using Airplay Mirroring for the TV?

Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and Apple TV while simultaneously using Airplay Mirroring to view the computer screen on the TV? Whenever I try, by clicking on 'computer' radial button for volume in iTunes Airplay, the TV automatically reverts to the Apple TV screen. I usually end up using preferences to 'bring back' the audio to the computert while leaving the picture on the tv, but this means i have to suffer from the inferior sound quality of my Macbook internal speakers.

  • Airplay Mirroring between MacMini (without Monitor) and ATV

    Hello,
i´m using the Mac Mini only as a Server in the storeroom. I did´t connect a Monitor to the Mini. If i want to change something on the Mini
i´m using VNC (iPad) or Screen-Sharing (iMac)!
Now i want to use the Airplay Mirroring function to stream video/audio to my Apple TV in the living room or Bedroom. I want to use some
streamingservices like HBO (in Germany it´s called RTL-Now.de a flashed based TV-Channel) or sometimes i want to use Safari on the big screen.
I only get the audio by Airplay Mirroring. The video signal ist bad. There are crazy colors on the TV (look the picture).
I try to solve the problem my changing the Airplay Setting (Resolution, optimize for ATV...). I changed the video settingt in ATV to auto but no success.
    Do you have a idea?
    Bastian

It only works when there is a Monitor connected to the mini! If not you see the result in my picture.
    The question to Apple: Why?

  • No Audio in AirPlay mirroring from my mac (OS-ML) to Apple TV

I get a picture but no audio.
    I saw this discussion:
No Audio when Airplay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV
BUT in my case I can't change the sound settings to AirPlay.
When I click it with the cursor, it tosses me back to Internal Speakers, and won't let me select AirPlay.
    Any suggestions?

    I'm in the same boat.
Found an instruction elsewhere to flip audio to AppleTV BEFORE switching to Airplay Mirroring.  Should not be necessary (several extra clicks where one should suffice), but if that's what I have to do, OK...
But as these users are reporting... it doesn't work.  I click on the AppleTV option and it keeps reverting to Internal Speakers.  I'm not able to actuall select the AppleTV for audio output.
    So, ***?

  • Airplay mirroring between my MacBook Pro and Apple TV (1080p one) has always worked fine until now. I only sometimes get video but usually just audio. Has anyone experienced the same issue?

When using Airplay mirroring between macbook pro and apple tv I cannot see video, only hear the audio. Worked fine before. Any suggestions on what the problem could be?

I have the exact same problem. The picture is very slow, incredibly pixelated... and renders my apple tv virtually useless until this problem gets resolved. I currently have an apple tv 3, ipad retina, iphone 4s, and a 2011 macbook air. I use the apple tv almost exclusively for mirrored content. And this is definitely causing quite a problem for me.
I had been able to use this for presentations as well- but until this problem gets resolved - I may have to look for a backup solution/product. And I imagine that I'm not alone in this... Please get this resolved quickly!
