AirPlay Music

AirPlay music from iP4 not workiong on new apple tv, video works fine.

I am having the exact same issue with Iphone 4 and iPad 1st gen.  I can view video, photos, and use the remote app just fine.  Also I'm not having an issue with the icon, it is there and detects the Apple TV but music just doesn't stream.  Or more accurately audio isn't streaming.  Not even non-music apps or games are working.

I want to use a FM radio app to Airplay music through my Apple TV (by using the synchronizing function). Works, but after some minutes, the Airplay audio output setting switches back to iPad. Why? Solution?
Why don't use iTunes? Because this just needs to many handling in order to get it where i want it (in general, this whole idea of doing everything online just works likes... ). An app is easier (that's why it is invented).

    Hey AKfishgirl,
Thanks for the question. The common variable here is your Wi-Fi router. Let’s check to see if the commonly used ports are being blocked by a firewall on your router:

Do you really mean the latest, as in 11.0.1?  That was supposed to include a fix for Airplay.

  • Can I use an Airport Express to airplay music without using it as a Router?

We have recently switched ISPs and our Airport Express is no longer being used as the router. Is it possible to use the device itself to airplay music from a computer without having to set it back up as our router?

Yes. Please checkout the following Apple support article for details. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4587

If i have a home full of Apple TV's and Airport Express' can i  airplay music in every room at the same time?
Or just one device(room) at a time?
It seems there is a lot of home theater systems where they all hook up to one "control" and then disperse to the different locations per instructions..
Is this possible with all apple products?

From iTunes using Multiple Speakers (you can control with the Remote app on iPhone/iPad too), but not from AppleTV itself.

  • HT204291 Apple TV has huge lag when airplay music from iPhone 5, but video streaming is just fine.

My new iPhone 5 has trouble with airplay music, however, it did perfectly with video sharing.
Symptoms: In "Music" app, turn on airplay, tv screen shows the current playing song. But, it has a huge lag, time jumps every 2 second instead of continously roll over. Switch to "Pandora", same issue. But with youtube video, both video and sound appear very normal.
I tried with my old iPhone 4, no problems at all. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with the 5. Any idea how to fix this?

Same here. Streaming from my MBA 2012 to apple tv3 works flawlessly, but any type of streaming with iphone 5 has huge lag. I have 10 mbps of internet dl speed and a cisco N broadband router.

  • After recent updates I am unable to airplay music from my iPhone 4s to Apple TV

I have iPhone 4s updated to os6 and new apple TV the black one. it was working fine but recently I noticed I can no longer do airplay. I can not even mirror stuff anymore. everything is updated, whats the deal? I tried regular player and that has no icon for airplay either. Wisky tango foxtrot?
P.s. everything is synched up with the same good wifi network theres internet on both the apple tv and iphone 4s everything is updated but airplay does not work...

In iTunes go to View>Show Sidebar.  This will make it look and behave more like previous versions.  Then connect your phone, click on it's name on the left side, go to the Music tab and make sure you haven't selected Sync your entire library.  You may want to check the songs in your library that you want on your phone, then go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and select Sync only checked songs and videos, then click Apply at the bottom to sync your phone.  This should transfer only the checked songs and remove the rest.

  • IPad cuts out and stutters on AirPlay music but iPhone does not?!

Hi folks, hope you can help with this problem, it's a little weird.
I bought an Apple TV a few days ago and have been enjoying streaming music from my apple devices onto the hifi system connected to the TV.  It works great except for one particular use-case, which is really frustrating.  Basically, I can do everything from the Apple TV, stream HD content, Netflix etc. all good.  From my iPhone I can do everything over AirPlay, stream music from iTunes, from Spotify, stream high quality video from YouTube or off the device itself, all works perfectly.
On my iPad 2 however everything works EXCEPT streaming music, it's bizarre.  I can stream a high def video from YouTube onto the iPad and AirPlay it over to the ATV and it never misses a beat.  I can mirror my screen onto the TV and stream games like Real Racing HD with no issues or lag whatsoever.  However when I try to stream music either from iTunes or Spotify from the iPad it stutters (cuts out) every 30 seconds or so, making the music intolerable.
The weirdest thing is that I can queue up the same track on my iPhone 4s and on the iPad 2, play it from the iPhone and it works perfectly, pause that, play from the iPad and it's a complete mess.  Similarly, when music is stuttering and cutting out on the iPad, I can switch directly to the YouTube, or BBC iPlayer app and stream high def video over AirPlay with no sound or video problems, then switch back to the music - back come the cut outs. It's driving me mad, I want the iPad to be the device everyone uses to play music from, especially for parties, but at the moment I have to get my phone out every time.
So it's not a bandwidth problem or a wifi signal problem (because video over airplay is fine) and it only affects music and it only affects the iPad.
    Any ideas?!?!
I should state that all the iOS devices have the latest apple software and I have already tried resetting the iPad, the ATV, my wifi router etc. etc.

    "Sonos" your Airplay
    Hi,
This observation elicited a Eureka moment. After months of problems with our airplay I had worked through almost every suggestion on the net to little or no avail.
As a result of this post I reconfigured one of our access points as a dedicated airplay network. Brilliant. We have now had 2 weeks of perfect airplay.
If you are reading this, you are probably fairly tech savvy. You therefore probably have an old router in the garage, shed or attic.
Get it out, dust it off and connect it to your network as an access point (Ethernet cable and a good internet search on your router). Set it up on an empty wireless channel as "*****airplay" or whatever suits you and connect the airplay clients (airport express, Apple TV, airplay speakers etc.) to that. Keep everything else on the original wireless network.
Interestingly, this is how Sonos have approached the wireless music solution.
This has worked brilliantly for us, I hope this helps others in a similar predicament.

  • How can I turn off my TV when I airplay music?

    Hi all
My ATV (3rd gen) is connected to an A/V receiver using HDMI. The A/V receiver outputs to the TV using HDMI as well. Playing video is perfect. But when it comes to playing music, the TV must be turned on. If I turn my TV off, the music will stop.
Is there a way to airplay my music without turning on the TV?
    Thanks,
    vaion

Just to update my findings. If your TV was on and then you AirPlay the music, the music will stop when you turn off the TV. However, if your TV was off and then you AirPlay the music, the music can be played without the TV on. Well, not sure this is useful to anyone.
    Cheers,

  • Airplay music random interrupts.

Airplay drops out every so often, why? Playing from a iPhone using the iPod app and thru a wireless network.

    Lunieri,
Thanks for the good questions and I will try to answer them.
I was sitting in the dinning room at the table with my iPhone 4. The wireless signal was maxed out. I went to iPod app on my iPhone and selected some music and started to play. Next, I used the AirPlay tool and selected the Airport express that is connected to my livingrom speaker. Music started playing. All good. Then about 5 or 6 songs into it, the music stopped. I looked at the iPod app on the iPhone and it said that the music was still palying but no music. The pause lasted for about 30 seconds then the music resumed not where itleft off but 30 seconds later. Wireless signal strength was strong throughout the incident. This ghappened thre more times int he next hour or so; very anoying to say the least. My wireless is an Airport Extreme with "n" speed and the Airport Express is brand new "n" speed and with the latest firmware.
    Any ideas?

  • Airplay music issues everywhere

I wonder, Airplay is nothing new nowadays, but nevertheless I have issues playing music all the time. I click the airplay icon on my device, it stays blued-out (selected) for a few seconds and unselects itself. No music. I have to try like 20 times before AppleTV finally accepts and plays music from either my iPhone or iPad 2. I use Airport Extreme and AppleTV2 at home.
At the office we have a few base stations connected to speakers and it's the same - sometimes the music plays straight away, but most times I have to selected the stupid airplay icon many times before it even makes a sound.
I don't expect this to be a problem in my install as I have the exact same issue on all my devices (iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad, iPad2) on all networks I've had - Airport Express base extending a Wifi and an AppleTV2 connected to Extreme.
    ***** for sure

  • Apple tv stutters when airplaying  music and movies

I'm unable to utilize the airplay feature in itunes to watch movies or listen to music though Apple tv.  I've fooled around with my router and updated the firmware, I'm using all of the updates available to me with the exception of upgrading to mountain lion.  I never had these problems until I upgraded my phone and ipad to ios6.  Does anyone have a good starting point for troubleshooting this problem?
    Thanks guys

    Thanks for the reply WC
    Yes they do.
They origialnally played just fine. I moved my entire iTunes library to a new computer and now only 62 songs, out of over 2000, and two of four movies won't sync. All songs and movies are in same folders and same format.
I already selected "keep iTunes media folder organized" and "copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library"
using iTunes 10.7 and OSX 10.8.2

  • Airplay Music Streaming

    Hello,
I currently have an iMac hosting all my music and I play it, and photos through my Apple TV connected to the TV in the sitting room.  If I purchase an Airplay enabled speaker, can it be controlled by the Apple TV ?  Everything I read seems to suggest Airplay needs to be controlled from an iPad, iPod etc. - which is not how I want to manage things.
    Thanks,
    M.

Just tried - multiple speakers are not supported from AppleTV.
You would need to use iTunes multiple speakers option or Remote app on iPhone/iPad to control iTunes and send to AppleTv and another device.
Selecting another AppleTV as the Airplay speaker deselected the AppleTV I was using and cut the audio from the TV.

  • Airplay music streaming and internal DAC bypass

Hello everyone, I'm an "audiophile" who loves high quality liquid music, and I need help about Airplay hi-fi music streaming.
I own an Apple TV 3gen linked with optical cable to my stereo amplifier internal hi-end DAC for optimal sound quality. Everything is fine when I play my iTunes network shared music using the Apple TV iTunes app or computer shared libraries, because the digital file is directly sent without manipulation to the hi-end amplifier's DAC.
When I stream music with my macbook pro to the Apple TV with Airplay, I notice that the macbook pro internal DAC isn't bypassed causing bad sound output. I also notice that because every audio control in the macbook is still active, so you can set the voume output and use the equalizer. This means that there is a Digital to Analog conversion (for sound control) and then an Analog to Digital conversion (for the Airplay streaming) made by macbook pro internal DAC.
As I said before, this workflow causes bad sound output, so is there a way to configure Airplay to stream untouched music files bypassing the internal device DAC (the DACs of iphones, ipads and macs)?

    Max_Ram wrote:
Are there any hi-end devices out there able to manage a shared iTunes library (like the ATV 3 does) with bit perfect output?
And has the Airplay feature in some "audiophile grade" devices like NAD, Marantz, etc. the same behaviour?
I suspect you'll find many of the high-end audio devices use custom library software - they may not run with iTunes directly, but I suspect some will be able to access files stored in iTunes.  The problem really is the AppleTV is not configurable to simply output what it is sent - I don't honestly know if for example iTunes downsamples hi def files before sending to AppleTV or if AppleTV does it internally.
In many ways it may not matter if AppleTV is not outputting as you want.
I think the problem with Airplay is that the technology is licensed from Apple for inclusion in those devices - from memory things like the first Zeppelin Air used to boast high-quality DACs but actually the Airplay stream that went to those devices was lower quality.  I've not really tested any of these things for a while to be honest and am rather out of touch with current AV gear.  Thinking about it I can use my Pioneer as an Airplay destination, but as you have noticed volume control/equaliser etc are active so the stream is not the original - must check on sample rate/bit depth though.
Airplay may or may not be capable of what you want now, but even if it isn't it may evolve to do so in the future. I suspect your best option will be to connect your Mac directly to the DAC if streaming won't work.
This is old and mentions some variably priced playback apps aimed at audiophiles:
    http://www.headfonia.com/os-x-audio-players-amarra-audirvana-pure-music-fidelia- decibel-and-bitperfect/
BitPerfect is available in the AppStore - OS X removed some APIs for low level access to audio output some times ago - not sure if they are available again now.
Fidelia also in AppStore but has some in-app purchases.
    Audirvana looked promising.
Not used any of these recently.
Amarra used to be very expensive.
In the past there have been several lively discussions here where people have moaned that AppleTV does not have a volume control - I have always argued that it is a 'source' device and volume etc should be controlled on the amp or TV as with conventional audio sources but many devices do have volume controls these days so consumers who like those features want them. They did actually add volume control to AppleTV 1 for stereo audio but you could disable it in Settings.
