Airplay on mac

Is there a way to use airplay / mirroring from MacBook Pro to apple TV

Note that the article linked by kaz-k is for Mountain Lion (10.8.x); AirPlay Mirroring is new with Mountain Lion. Your profile says your MacBook Pro is running Lion (10.7.x), which does not have AirPlay Mirroring. (That's in addition to the hardware requirements mentioned in that article.)

  • Airplay via Mac Pro has no sound.

Picture good but no sound when using airplay via mac pro.

If the sound comes out of the Macbook Pro instead of the Airplay receiver:
Hold the Alt key, select the sound icon in the top menu bar (next to the wifi icon), and select the Airplay Receiver (Apple TV or other)
If there is no sound at all, check the sound of the Apple TV (or other) without using airplay.

  • AirPlay between Mac and Apple TV

    Hi there,
I just bought Apple TV and I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro (2012 model) to Apple TV. I know that I have to go to AirPlay, but my computer does not give me the option. I go to system preferences, settings, and I am not given an option to connect to AirPlay, it just gives me a list of settings for my computer's screen. My Mac's software is up to date as well as my Apple TV. I am just wondering how I can be prompted to connect to AirPlay.

I have no issues connecting my Apple TV to my iphone and ipad, just the Mac is giving me problems.

  • Apple TV in Living Room and Airplay from Mac Mini .. what about Keyboard and Mouse?

Now I know that you can air play the mac mini to the apple tv, but before I go out and buy an apple tv I want to know something. My living room is a little away from the room where the mac mini is, how can I have the keyboard / mouse work with the apple tv to wirelessly control it? Do I have to buy an additional keyboard / mouse? Some people have mentioned the remote somehow works, but I need the keyboard and mouse to work, any tips from the pros?

I'm not a huge fan of Airplay Mirroring - what do you intend to use it for?
How old is your Mini and is it able to Mirror?
    You need:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)

If you don't meet the specs try AirParrot software.

  • AirPlay with Mac Mini and iPad Mini?

I recently got an Apple Mac Mini. It uses OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 and is much better than my old one. When I try to use AirPlay on it, the only displays that show up are the Apple TVs around the house. I would like to connect it to my iPad Mini (iOS 7.1.0), but it doesn't show up. Am I able to connect it to my iPad or is something wrong?

An iPad is not an AIrPlay receiver while an Apple TV is. There are apps availabe in th eApp store that allow you to use an iPad as a secondary monitor for a computer. Here is one:

  • Airplay between mac book air and apple TV

I just purchased apple TV and I have a mac book air purchased earlier in the year. I am unable to connect the mac to the TV. No devices are detected in airplay mirroring in display settings. They are both connected to the same wifi. Both are on.

If you're not seeing an Airplay icon next to the TimeMachine icon on your top toolbar to the left of your clock, then the MacBook isn't seeing the AppleTV.
What type of hardware are you using for WIFI connectivity?  Some have issues passing the necessary multicast packets to make AirPlay and other Apple connectivity work on the network.  Usually all-in-one modem/router devices from carriers like Comcast have been known to have these issues. (Arris gateways from them will not work with AirPlay or AirPrint protocols.)

  • How to airplay from mac

I have just resently updated my iMac to Mountain Lion and would like to know how to setup AirPlay from my iMac to my AppleTV...

    Welcome to Apple Communities
You need an Early 2011 Mac or later, and an Apple TV with the latest iOS. Connect them to the same Wi-Fi and open System Preferences > Display, to select Apple TV in mirroring

  • Initiating airplay from Mac Mini to AppleTV causes router to crash

    Hi,
I have an AppleTV (new) and a Mac Mini (new), both purchased in the last few months.  When I try to initate Airplay from my Mac Mini it crashes the network.  Every device on the network loses internet.  This can only be resolved by rebooting the router.  I have tried this several times, but still no luck.  Any help would be appreciated.

I can play audio on both the Mac Mini and Apple TV simultaneously by using ITunes and the Airplay icon from within ITunes.  In ITunes, I select the Airplay icon and choose "mulitiple" and select both "computer" and "Apple TV" and have volume controls for both and each indiviudally.  It works, so the devices are connected and Ethernet is not the issue.  Is there a way outside of ITunes to play audio over both Mac Mini speakers and Apple TV speakers?

  • Where can i download airplay for mac

where can i download airplay for mac

AirPlay is already built into iTunes, for streaming audio to compatible devices. There's nothing you need to download.

If you have problems getting this to work, you'll be most likely to get help in the iTunes for Mac forum. This forum is for iPad questions and so probably not the most appropriate place.

  • Airplay, NAS & Mac Mini

I have recently been putting speakers throughout my home and utilizing airport expresses to create zones throughout.  The one big problem i come across is that if you choose to listen to pandora on your phone and airplay it is that you can only choose one location to play it.  Is this an airplay/airport express issue or strickly a pandora issue?  However, you can choose multiple locations, multiple volumn adjustments etc within itunes or the remote app.  I have an external HD hooked up to my mackbook air.  When the machine is shut down you obviously loose your ability to access your library thru itunes which affects my apple TV's as well.  I have been looking into Network Attached Storage.  It appears that I could relocate my music to the NAS without to much issue.  Now, if i got a mac mini and hooked it up as a media server to my home theater and used the itunes app on that to process everything would that work?  Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.  Also any recommendations on brands of NAS's that work well with OSX would help.

Airplay video streaming works only with an Apple TV, yes, if you mean that you want to send your Mac's screen to a TV. Otherwise you have to connect the Mac directly to the TV.
As to why it isn't an option for the Mac mini, and again I presume you're referring to screen mirroring, mirroring is supported if you have a mid-2011 Mac mini. Earlier Macs do not support this option. Reports on other web sites are indicating that AirPlay mirroring requires Intel's QuickSync hardware compression, something that is not present in older Macs. For an earlier model Mac, try:

  • Trouble with Home Sharing/Airplay from Mac

I am having an issue trying to access my computer through 2nd gen Apple TV. The software on the device is up to date. I am running OS X Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro with up to date iTunes. I am trying to watch a video in my iTunes library but it will not let me access my computer with home sharing. I have made sure that both devices have home sharing turned on and using the correct account. I am also unable to access my iTunes library with my iPad or iPhone. I have done this successfully in the past so I'm not sure what is causing this. Oh, it also wont let me airplay from iTunes on my Mac to the apple tv.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Same here. iPhone, Mac Mini and Apple TV3 are all up to date. Logged in and out on each device and home sharing and airplay still don't work at all. Nothing shows up in the remote app. They're all on the same network and have been. The only thing I can think of is the most recent ATV firmware update, but why would my phone be unable to see my computer??
    Any secret commands to try?

  • Not seeing Airplay on Mac Mini

I have a Mac Mini purchased September 2011. I also have an AppleTV 2. I see the apple TV to stream a movie out of iTunes, but after loading Mountain Lion it is not seeing the ATV no matter what I do. Please tell me my 10 month old computer is not already behind on this one.
Any suggestions on connecting the 2?

    AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
If your mac is one of the above, go to settings-display and toward the bottom is a menu ofor airplay select your apple tv

  • Airplay on mac pro

airplay function, work on mac book pro?

yeah, it is extreme, but it's a natural reaction.  It's not about just airplay, but the whole os x itself.  I'm talking about those who bought the computer(s) about a year ago or whatever.
I don't like the fact that Apple had to make system requirement to take advantage of those features.  I understand if the computer is about 5 years or older, because of new technologies or whatever.  I've read some comments from os x ML reviews..I understand why they are so angry.

  • HT204291 Airplay on Mac prevents other devices from using airplay

I have successfully connected my mid 2011 Mac mini to my 3rd gen Apple TV to allow for extended desktop on Mavericks. The problem is after I have disconnected Apple TV from the Mac mini and turned off airplay features, the Apple TV stays connected to the Mac mini, causing the Apple TV to turn on and stay on, even when the Mac mini is asleep. I have also just found out that this unwanted connection prevents my other iOS devices from using Airplay with Apple TV. The device will connect momentarily the then be kicked off with the Apple TV showing that it's "playing" an "Untitled" track from "Internet radio". At the time of this incident, the Mac mini was on sleep mode. This problem was resolved when I shut down the Mac mini.
What is causing this unwanted connection and how can I be able to use Airplay from devices without having to shut down my Mac mini?

Thank you for the quick reply HACKINT0SH. But it does not solve anything.
When i move the iMac to the first floor and connect trough wifi it works. When I move the device back to the cellar then it works via LAN for a day or so... After some time the Airplay Icon is just gone
It seems that the Mac is not searching anymore for AirPlay devices or the broadcasts goes nuts.
Is there any way to search manually for AirPlay devices?

  • Airplay from mac to apple TV with DVDplayer

When I am playing a DVD on my Macbook Pro and Mirroring via Airplay to my Apple TV I get a Checkerboard on my mac and TV.
    Does anyone else have this?

Probable cause is Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions dictated by the DVD publisher or studio.
