Airplay plays – without sound

I am not sure if it is a iTunes, AppleTv, Airplay or Time Capsule issue – or a combination of them all.
But i am experiencing alittle annoying issue, which i hope to fix.
I am playing music from iTunes 11.0.5 and i Airplay it to my AppleTv it plays with sounds and all as it sould. But often we it continues to the next track, I can see it plays because the playcounter is running and it Scrobbles to Last.fm – but there is no sound. I then have to pause and press play, or skip back to beginning of the track. Otherwise it can continue to play the rest of the album, just without sound.
I think it might have something to do with all the media files are stored on my Time Capsule, but the iTunes folder containing the .itdb and .itl are still on my local HD. It is as if it doesn't load the files properly. But i don't have any issues with movies files.
Is it a iTunes Time Capsule issue? And if so, any fixes? I tried updating to latest firmware, but it didn't resolve the issue.
Or could the problem be soemthing else?
I do have a pretty fast internet connection both in upload and download.
MacBook Pro 10.8.4
iTunes 11.0.5
AppleTv 2.gen (lastest OS)
Time Capsule 4. gen. (7.6.4)

Ever since I upgraded my iPad 3 to iOS 6 , uTube videos play without sound , does anyone know why ?

    Try a reset:
    1. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together)
    2. For about 10 seconds
    3. Until you see the Apple logo (very important)

  • Still play without sound!

I borrowed a friend's Sony videocamera to film a projekt for my thesis.
The videocamera produces MPEG 2 files, which cannot be played correctly on Quicktime (Snow leopard 10.6.8)
To solve this problem I bought apple's mpeg 2 component which promises to solve the problem but it doesn't work.
Mpegv2 videos still play without sound! Have I wasted my money?
Anyone with the same problem? any suggestions?
PS. I've tried all the 'classic' solutions: deleting and re-installing QT, using QT 7, repair permissions, but nothing seems to work!

I solved my problem with MPEG Streamclip. Although it dates from 2008, it does the job perfectly and for free :-). I could see the videos before (with sound) with VLC and Toast Video Player, but editing..well that's very tricky to do in Toast (with limited possibilities) and impossible in VLC and my project involves video editing. I have iMovie 09 and tried to import the original mpeg2 files, but it wouldn't recognize them.
To be automatically converted by iMovie, you must import the files directly from the camcoder. Once the files are moved to your hard drive, iMovie uses Finder-level routines to move the files into iMovie rather than the "Importer" module which handles many different QT non-editable camcorder formats. If you manually copied/moved the files to your hard drive, then you must manually convert the non-editable compression formats to editable formats.
The solutions you offer on QT MPEG2 Playback component can prove useful to me in the future, it seems though a bit too complicated and time consuming to go through all these conversions...
The demuxing/re-muxing work flows are very quick since the video is not converted—only re-wrapped. Unfortunately, these work flows are more for viewing the content than for preparing the video for editing. If you plan to do your editing in iMovie, then I would recommend converting the MPEG-2 video to AIC and the audio to Uncompressed. If editing in FCP, then you can convert the content to your preferred "project" compression format. If all you want to do in way of editing is to trim and/or merge files without titles, transitions, and such, then you can do that from within MPEG Streamclip. It also allows you to crop and/or center frame content and includes filters to modify contrast, brightness, saturation, change volume, and/or adding a text watermark if desired. Unfortunately, these routines can only be accessed as part of an export work flow.
I think it could be simpler and I still doubt that buying QT MPEG-2 Playback component was worth it :-(
Lion though seems to have solved this problem...but I am not quite ready to change OS yet..
As previously stated, the simpliest editing approach is to import/manage content directly from the camcorder to iMovie. With regard to the QT MPEG-2 Playback component, if you worked on any MPEG-2 content while testing MPEG Streamclip, then you are already using it. Otherwise you would have received an error message stating you needed to purchase/install the component. With regard to Lion, while QT X can play "muxed" MPEG-2/AC3 content in MPEG or MPG containers, it does not support the VOB file container. Further it does not support resource paired M2V/AIFF or M2V/AC3 non-paired elementary streams like QT 7 with the MPEG-2 component does. In short, while QT X.1 solves some MPEG-2 playback problems, it still can't do some things that the QT 7 Player can do and neither can edit GOP content natively as MPEG Streamclip can.

  • Videos on 5G 30GB iPod play without sound

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've been able to upload .mpg (actually they're .m4v, once converted) videos to my iPod, but they all play without sound, even when I turn the volume (and can see the bar moving) up and down.
Actually, I just realized that they don't even play in iTunes 7.01 with sound.
Man, what a complete mess this whole experience has become!!!

Yes, there is a reason, QT won't convert MPEG 1 or 2 and preserve the audio. QT is the converter engine in iTunes. But iTunes will play a lot of video that iPod won't handle. Quicktime can do that, while iPod is capable of only limited file sizes and bitrates. So it is very possible there will be a bunch of iTunes videos you can watch there and not iPod.
    Solution:
    1. MPEG Streamclip, open MPEG and export to MPEG-4, press the iPod button (free)
    2. iSquint - drag and drop, set to h264 and high quality, press button, also free.
I find iSquint messes up on some MPEGs so I do this - first I do a batch in Streamclip to convert from MPEG to MPEG-4 (not H264 as I want speed and not the quality which I get anyway with high bitrates and no size reduction) but the same size and a high bitrate , that won't play on iPod. Then I throw all those files into iSquint and it "iPod's" them overnight. Makes very good videos in sync and iPod compliant.
Streamclip now has the big (640X480) iPod setting under the convert to MPEG-4 menu so I am going to try that and see if I can skip use of iSquint totally.
In the past at times Streamclip made them a little too high a bitrate. Even on its iPOd setting hence the two step batch process. But batch processing means it works while you sleep so it is a minor irritant.
Note the inability of QT to convert muxed MPEG audio has been a "feature" of QT for a long time so this is nothing new.

  • New Problem - video loads, plays a bit, pauses, then plays without sound.

On the first time that I used the TV-Out feature of the iPod, videos that normally were playing properly started to lag. The video would play about 15 seconds, then stop playing for a few seconds, then start again, but without sound. I just thought it might be because of the TV-Out feature, but after that incident, a large amount of my videos have been doing this, without using the TV-Out.
My first use of the tv-out feature was around the time that I first updated the iPod firmware. I now realise that I have no need of the updated firmware, so would be willing to restore the iPod to factory settings, but would rather get some opinions first.
Although these videos had played normally before, now they (and most all videos I have added since), do this when playing:
Load up normally, play normally for about 15 seconds, pause and do nothing, then continue playing but without sound. If I use the clickwheel to skip ahead after it pauses, it will play normally for another 5 seconds or so and then pause and cut the sound again.
I had not experienced anything like this before that first time I used the TV-out capability. Nor had I experienced it before updating the iPod. Now, many, but not all of my videos are doing this.
Oh, it seems only the videos longer than 10 minutes are doing this... all the others work... some more testing would be needed to be certain. Video podcasts are playing fine. So... anyone else had this happen?

This problem seems to occur for the 60GB models that are using the new firmware 1.1. It has been posted all over google and the only fix to this problem is to downgrade to 1.0. The problem is reported as not to affect the 30GB models but there are a few videos on my ipod (30GB) that suffer from this as well. I haven't downgraded by 30GB one to check if it fixes it, but I can assure you that it will fix the problem for the 60GB one (I used to have that one before).

  • Movies playing without sound

I have a 80gb Ipod Classic, and when I look at videos on it the footage comes out fine, but theres no sound coming through the headphones. Playing the same video through itunes works perfectly, the file is a mpeg-4 file so it should be fine, seeing as i ripped it using itunes. its the same for any video file i've tried to watch on the ipod.
Any ideas as to why this would not be working? it's fairly new, and the videos have never worked. Thanks for any advice

so it should be fine, seeing as i ripped it using itunes.
Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (both of which iTunes uses) does not convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • My recorded footage without sound will not play, but will when recorded with sound, any ideas?

    Hi there community!
I have recorded alot of footage on a digital Harinezumi 3 camera and have run into a problem in post production.
Some of the footage is recorded with sound, and plays fine.  However, with most of the footage, i chose to turn the recording of sound off.  These files without sound will not play in any player, even when Perian is installed.
These are the specs of the video I have been able to find out.
    File type: .AVI
    Video Stream: JPEG
This is all I can find out, so I am thinking it is an M-JPEG file rendered as an AVI file.  VLC player says it can not play the video or audio format 'undf', whatever that means.  Another player says it needs a .moov encoder, but I do not see how this is possible.  I have also tried attaching audio to it via Logic 9 with no success.
I am at a loss, and I really need this footage for a project.  Any ideas?
    Thanks for any help!!

It won't let me post the video in the forum, so here is a link to it in dropbox.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/k4nz8mg18p4thzd/Mountain%203.AVI?n=145237283
Accessed the file at dropbox. Played the DropBox "display" file in scripted player, played the same resource file using the Safari plug-in, and then downloaded the resource file using the QT 7 Pro "Open URL" option only to learn that this file was an H.264 transcode and not your original file. Used the DropBox download option to download the original Motion JPEG file in AVI file container. File plays as is in both QT X v10.2 and QT 7 v7.6.6 players under Mountain Lion v10.8.4 on my system.
Motion JPEG is one of the "lagacy" codec components turned off under Lion and which remains turned off under Mountain Lion. However, as I understand it, Motion JPEG files are supposed to be passively supported (playback supported) under these systems but requires the codec to be turned back on if you wish to export files using this codec. I turned both Motion JPEG and Motion PNG codecs back on quite a while back and have Perian installed which, as you can see, supplied the OpenDML version of the Motion JPEG codec component to actually play your file on my system. Unfortunately, since QT uses a LIFO codec component list generation strategy, I would have to remove Perian to test whether or not the system configured Motion JPEG component would then become the active decoder. (Did this a year or two ago but not willing to do so again at this time.)
Suffice it to say, the file should play in QT on your Mountain Lion system assuming the correct version of Perian is installed, it is actually active, and you have no conflicting software or hardware installed on your system. Have posted an MOV file containing your Motion JPEG video data in case you want to see if it will play correctly on your system.

  • Premiere CS5 import avi clips without sound. How can I import avi clips with sound without convert?

    Dear Adobe Forum,
I have the following problem, please help:
I would like to import avi clips in adobe premiere. All clips have the same avi codec. But unfortunately my adobe premiere does not import the sound of a few
avi clips. It is wired because about 10 out 70 avi clips which have all the same avi codec does not work with sound in premiere CS5. In the timline premiere import the video and audio line but there are no audio waves in the about 10 avi clips. additonally premiere plays the 10 avi clips in the source monitor without sound. Furthermore when I open the 10 avi files without adobe premiere they have sound, but with premiere there are no sound in the 10 avi clips.
What can I do, so that I can import all avi files with sound. I do not want to convert each of the avi files because then they have not a good quality and it is to complicated and it takes to much time to convert all files in this video project and in the other video project in my future.
Consequently How can I import all avi files so that they have immediately sound? Do I have to change some premiere settings?
    Thank you in advance
    Leonardo

But the 2 video clips mentioned above does not have any files like .AVD oder something else like that. But the first one works and the second one doesnt work.
