AirPlay streaming from my MacBook

I started a similar discussion a couple weeks ago (see bottom of this post) and my problem has recurred. Here's the rundown:
When I stream music from my 2012 MacBook Air to my new ATV, it streams about 3 seconds of audio and then the audio drops (though it shows it still playing). Initially, this was also true using AirPlay from any device, but I can now get it to stream from my iPhone. iTunes is up to date on my computer. Here are the steps I've taken so far:
First I swapped out my Arris router from Comcast for my AirPort. For the first day after I did this, AirPlay streamed just fine (and I marked my previous post resolved). It also significantly increased my wireless speed to the point that we're now streaming HD video through the Apple TV with no issues.
When the issue recurred, I made my wireless network hidden but also checked my device logs in the AirPort utility and didn't see anything I didn't recognize. It made no performance difference, so I made the network discoverable again.
I enabled the 5 gHz wireless network. Since doing this, my iOS devices can stream via AirPlay to the ATV, but my MacBook still can't. Video mirroring works just fine (or extending the monitor onto the TV), but not audio. The same issue happens with Home Sharing on the ATV.
I have enabled WAN AirPlay in the AirPort utility.
One thing I haven't done: the AirPort firmware could be updated, and I've tried to do that twice and encountered an error message each time afer the firmware is downloaded.
Original post:
I just bought a new ATV, and when I use AirPlay to stream music it gives me about 3 seconds of playback and then goes silent even as my 2012 MacBook Air shows that the song is still playing through the ATV. Using my iPhone gave the same issue. The ATV is a week out of the box. Any ideas?

If the router is old that may have an impact. However, I would also check the network. Lagging is usually caused by interference. If on wifi try ethernet. Make sure the router is up to date as well. Reboot ATV and router.
Go to istumbler.net to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.

  • Why is music streamed from my MacBook Pro to Apple TV via AirPlay choppy?

I'm trying to stream music from iTunes on my MacBook Pro to my new Apple TV via AirPlay, but the music is extremely choppy, cutting in and out. It's completely unlistenable. However, I can use AirPlay to stream from my Macbook Pro to my Pioneer VSX 1021 AirPlay enabled receiver with no issues. Additionally, I can stream from my iPhone or iPad to the Apple TV without these issues. Therefore it would appear wifi bandwidth is not the root cause. I'm stumped. Help!

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • HT204291 Airplay skips when streaming from my Macbook Pro

    Hey!
Im finding ever since i recently purchased my newest Apple Tv unit that whenever i stream from my macbook (mirroring) it skips, both audio and video. I have several other apple tv devices throughout the house and they all work fine when doing the same thing. The device with the problem is located in my living room, perhaps 4 metres from the wireless internet station. Its the closest in proximity out of all the apple tv's.
Any help resolving this issue would be great! If theres is any details that i need to provide just let me know.
    Thanks.

    Hello!
You have a box you can check over at: "Apple menu > System Preferences > Displays"
"show mirroring options in the menu bar when available"
Here's the manual from Apple: About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X - Apple Support
If that's not the solution: try unplugging all your routers/modems/extenders, etc from power for a minuten and plugging them back in. Sometimes routers 'think' you have a new machine after upgrading the OS and erroneously block it from some network communication ports.

  • I can't stream from my Macbook Air to my lg tv although I used to be able to before I used a Mackeeper app.

I used to be able to stream from my Macbook Air to my LG tv but now I can't.  Could it be due to the fact that I downloaded and used the Mackeeper app?

  • Why does streaming video freeze and Internet not allow me to search Web when I airplay content from my MacBook Pro?

I just bought Apple TV and my internet connection seems to cut out. I can't browse the internet once this happens? Once I unplug Apple TV and refresh router I get it back. What can I do to resolve this problem?

I am having the same problem.  The MacBook Pro does not come with a startup disk so how can I get into the computer to begin anything?

  • How can I stream from my macbook to my apple tv?

I haven't had Apple TV very long. I'm able to get my iPhone 4 to pair with my Apple TV. I haven't figured out the process to do the same on my                macbook(late2009). If this is possible I would appreciate a little help.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You will find the airplay icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your iTunes application. You can only airplay from the iTunes application at this time.

  • Airplay Desktop from new macbook doesn't play audio

Airplay video is working fastastically from my new 13" macbook pro, but it's not playing any audio. My iPhones and iPads don't have this problem, plays videso and audio to my appleTV and audio system without problems - but I can't get any audio to get there from the my laptop. Any thoughts?
I have tried to go into the audio output system prefs where it gives me an "apple TV" option, but when I click on it nothing happens.

  • Airport Express, can't stream from my macbook but it works from other devic

I connected airport express to my hifi.
Want to stream my music wireless to the stereo.
It works fine with my iphone and ipad but it doesn't with my macbook.
I see the station after clicking the symbol in itunes but after a short while of searching it stopps without connection.
What do I need to do. Some setup on my macbook?

Also, the new AirPort Utility can't see the Airport Express either, and the option for multiple speakers has vanished from the bottom right corner in iTunes.

  • Does Airplay stream from iPhone 3G???

I have an iPhone 3G and am very hesitant to upgrade from iOS 3.X to iOS 4.2. When I upgraded to iOS 4.0 on my iPhone 3G, it REALLY slowed down my phone, and so I downgraded back to iOS 3.X. About the only reason I'd consider upgrading to iOS 4.2 is for the airplay feature, but I'm not sure that works from an iPhone 3G to the Airport Express (AEX). Can anyone in here with an iPhone 3G tell me if it will stream music to an AEX with airplay via the iOS 4.2?

  • Airplay skips from MacBook Air, not other devices

When Airplay streaming from my MacBook Air to my Apple TV, audio skips constantly. Sometimes the connection will even completely drop if I'm trying to mirror my screen or Airplay all system audio.  However, Airplay streaming works perfectly from my girlfriend's older MacBook Pro and my iPad, so I think that means the issue is isolated to my Air. What could be causing the issue with my Air, and how could I fix it? This is the main function I bought the Apple TV for.
Details: late 2011 13" MacBook Air with OS X 10.8.2, iTunes 11.0.2, 2nd gen (I think? bought late 2012) Apple TV.

I have this problem too with my MacBook Pro 13" Retina. I noticed I can make it skip on demand if I click the Wifi pulldown at the top and when it's refreshing the list of available wifi access points it will skip the streaming audio to my ATV.
Occasionally it will skip on it's own, maybe it's when it's refreshing wifi points in the background?

  • Can one wireless network support multiple airplay streams?

I know you can send one stream to multiple airports, but if I have two airport expresses and one macbook and one ipad, can two people listen to two different songs in different rooms?

    Simple answer: yes
Fuller answer: Assuming you mean you want to send one AirPlay stream from the MacBook to one AirPort Express and another stream from the iPad to a different Express, yes, if your network has the bandwidth to support both (which it should unless it is subject to extreme conditions like long distances or thick walls).

  • My apple tv was previously and now all of the sudden stopped playing sound from my macbook air via airplay

I was using airplay to stream from my macbook air on my tv via apple tv and when i paused the sound stopped and now will not resume.  I have reset both and both are fully updated. Please help

Dowload the program BEAMER, its far superior to AIRPLAY, theres a free 30 day trial. See if it works on that. Beamer is the best app for wifi of VIDS to your AppleTV
    http://beamer-app.com/
also, try a diff VID format, AIRPLAY doesn’t support all VID formats (beamer does however).
I cant live without beamer, you can multitask on your Mac  WHILE beaming high-def to your Apple TV, ….Airplay wont do that reliably.
    Process of elimination diagnosis!
