Airplay Stutters and connection loss

After updating Mavericks, and with Yosemite same problem, my appleTV stutters a lot when air-playing a movie or youtube video on my television streaming from my macbook pro or imac.
And every 3-4 days I have to restart the modem otherwhise the computers don't even see the apple tv at all.
It's not a problem of video codecs, also the mouse pointer moving around stutters on my tv.
Any help ?
My wifi is excellent, I tested it with iStumbler, both 2.4 and 5 GHZ (dual band wifi), I can upload with no problem 1MB/s over wifi, and download 4 MB/s
Thanks

I had this problem exactly as described by Robbie75VRI. However, the problem existed before I upgraded to  Yosemite, and has not improved at all. It is not a bandwidth problem. I have close to the fastest internet connection available, a new router. Have tried resetting router, reset and restored Apple TV and nothing works. Using 3'rd gen Apple TV and 2013 iMac 27"
I have spoken with Apple Care about this at least twice, and they have not been of much help. They are suggesting that I exchange for a new Apple Tv, but I am fairly confident that this is not a hardware problem.
I have also played with repositioning Apple Tv and router, using different cables of different lengths etc. Nothing works.
The problem only exists when streaming anything from the iMac, not from iphone or ipad. If I am streaming movies through iTunes on my iMac to Apple tv everything is fine. But when trying to watch any movies that are stored directly on my iMac's hard drive or any external hard drive the problem persists. Also, I sometimes use Netflix USA to watch movies, and because I can't do that directly from Apple tv, I stream from my iMac to Apple tv and the problem is really bad. Mouse pointer jumps all over, picture freezes and is skippy and lossy.

  • Five months of ongoing timeouts and connection loss

SE PA area. Problem started back in January with bursts of high ping times and timeouts on an old white Westell model with a WRT54g bridged to handle the routing. After several support calls a new Westell 6100 was sent but failed to resolve the intermittent problem. It seems to be aggravated by wet weather but also happens during dry periods just not as frequently. Around March tech support sent another Westell 6100 claiming the first one went bad. Problems continued intermittently as they've always been.
After a couple more calls to tech support they claimed the second Westell 6100 might be causing the problem and sent an Actiontec GT704WGB. Before getting the Actiontec installed our phone quit working (clicking noise and cross talk) but DSL continued to function with the same high pings and time outs randomly. This was last week and we were finally able to get a phone tech last Thursday (still had the Westell 6100 hooked up) to come to the house. Several hours prior to his arrival our phone started working and talking to the tech he said there was a line problem found and fixed.
While the tech was here, he put a splitter in line and ran a home run for the DSL to help us eliminate any possible filter issues and see if it would help with the intermittent DSL problems. I have also replaced the line from the NID inside with a new cat5e run. Yesterday (Friday) we had a bad rain storm lasting several hours (over 1.5in of rain) and the DSL has been garbage since.
I broke down today and pulled the Westell 6100 and my Linksys WRT54g out of the DSL line and finally installed the Actiontec GT704WGB and it's as bad or worse than ever. I've collected as much info as I can to try to shed some light on this if someone know how to interpret what the results are and can help, that would be awesome. I'm at my wits end with Indias tech support route and after 5 months I don't know what else to do.

Ah.. I was hoping you'd stop by and chime in. Thanks!  I spent a couple of evenings browsing the forums looking at others' issues and was always impressed with not only your knowledge but your willingness and consistent help to many who post up with issues. I'm gonna have to give you a Kudos on this as it's the best I can do and people such as yourself and several of the other regular "assistees" I've seen help here are what really make these forums/communities the great resource that they are.
As I have a technical background in electronics and electro-mechanical I was able to blow through a lot of good information on what to check and get all my potential infrastructure issues on my side covered before going any farther (replacing my old lines with new cat5 and new jacks, getting the tech to put a splitter in and run a home run for the DSL line). But I don't have much knowledge in the telecommunications end and DSL. Your info helped a lot with shedding some more light on that as well as reading other posts.
I saw the Redback router in the reverser trace and had gathered from other reading that they're older units. I have no idea what if any upgrades will be done at my CO. I am in fact fed from a CO and that fits in with my attenuation numbers as I'm about 2 miles away. From the numbers I estimate between 12-13000 feet on the wire.
A short update since Sunday. Yesterday my wife received a call from a US based tech from the Chronic Intermittency team (I think that's what she called them) and after looking at the line the nice lady was a bit perplexed as I was as the numbers look so good on the line. She was able to determine after several steps with my wife, that we might just be saturating the 1.7Mb we were provisioned at and the modem was just giving up the ghost and timing out eventually. She opened the pipe up to 3Mb and it's gotten MUCH better since yesterday. While it tightened us up quite a bit on the Margin (I was a little surprised at how much the Margin dropped with only doubling the rate) it appears 5Mbps would easily be doable barring no other line issues. What I was most favorably impressed with though was that the nice lady promised to call back and stay with this issue until resolved. She's off for a couple of days which will give us some time to see how much better this one change has improved things but she did call twice yesterday (a call back followup after the original call and bumping up the provisioning to see if she was on the right track). That certainly helped boost my confidence level with Verizon's support a bit...

I also found it interesting that the upstream output power dropped so much. It appears that modem was getting a workout at 400Kbps. Downstream held the same.
I'm not ready to mark this resolved yet but it does appear the lady was correct in her assumption that we were saturating the connection as a primary root cause. Interesting...
What I still find a bit of a puzzle is our online habits haven't changed (always run virus/trojan protection as that was one item the tech queried due to the activity she was seeing based on what my wife had running at the time) and yet this didn't crop up until the beginning of this year. We primarily run 2 desktop systems and I use a laptop wirelessly occasionally (yes, I did kill the wireless on the router for a day in troubleshooting). My usage is primarily browsing and email and my browsing is mostly forums and finance based so not a lot of high bandwidth usage there. The wife does have an online game she's played for years and does use Skype and Teamspeak during her gaming, but her gaming habits/use hasn't changed over the years either. I do run the Network Meter Gadget on Windows 7 on all PCs so we can monitor our rate dynamically but it's hard to aggregate that info when we're both online to see the total bandwidth we're pushing. I've watched her sessions as well as monitoring mine and she was by no means in constant saturation. I was surprised at the constant "chatter" Skype puts on the line even with no ongoing conversations. I suspect some congestion at the DSLAM might be in play here as well. We'll see how it all shakes out in the end. I'd certainly like to get the bump to 5Mbps if it's doable and think that might just buy us a bit more life until we finally have to cave to Fios.

  • SQL error forced rollback and connection loss with OLE item in forms 6i

We are running forms 6i client server on a Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.3.0 - 64bit. We have a form that has 1 base table block that contains an OLE item where the user can create or edit a Microsoft Word document then save that document in a long raw column in the table. The OLE item is using the Word.Document.8 OLE class.
We are having intermittant problems where the user presses commit in the form and gets a FRM-40508 error: unable to Insert record. The message displayed at the bottom of the screen is FRM-40655: SQL error forced rollback: clear form and re-enter transaction. When I press Shift-F1 to view the error I see ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel.
DBA says that there are no errors being generated in the database. Does anyone have any experience with kind of problem? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

The Ora-3113 error means that the connection has been lost.
These issues normally are database or networking related and have little to do with ole objects.
You need to determine if a server-side error is causing the disconnect.
To start diagnosing this issue you first need to turn on sqlnet tracing to see what other ora-XXXX error is occuring. That will start to help diagnosing this issue.
You may also want to check the database alert log for any RDBMS errors that may have caused the disconnect.
If there aren't any RDBMS errors logged, you should generate a Net8 trace for the session to see if you can get more detailed errors.
    About sql tracing:
To obtain a trace, you have to place the following entries in the SQLNet.ORA file. Make sure before you start your application that the C:\Trace directory exist.
    TRACE_FILE_CLIENT = net817
    TRACE_DIRECTORY_CLIENT = C:\trace
    TRACE_UNIQUE_CLIENT = ON
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT = 16
    TRACE_TIMESTAMP_CLIENT = ON
When finished obtaining both traces, set the TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT = 0 from 16 to turn off tracing.

  • Bouts of packet loss and complete loss of connection

Ok forum, I give up! I need your help.
I have an E1200 and am time out and packet loss issues. The internet connection is fine for 30 seconds to five minuets and then everything times out for 15-20 seconds. Although it’s only a minor incontinence to web browsing, it makes playing games and watching videos a nightmare. “Lost connection to server error.” and the like…
This is what I have done to remedy the problem.
I upgraded to a new router, the e1200 I am currently using, from my Tenda 10/100 N. The problems where the same that I am experience currently and the reason I bought it in the firs place.
When I directly connect to the cable modem, I have no issues and everything is fine.
I have run a trace route and the second hop, (the router to the modem) is the choke point.
I have cloned the MAC address
I have updated the firmware and hard reset
I have throttled my MTU to automatic, 1500, and 1472. None making any difference.
I have disabled NAT and all that does is kill my internet connection
I have disabled all firewalls router and windows, no change.
I replaced the physical wire from the router to the modem.
I have disconnected all devices except one computer, and no difference.
I ran a DNS trace and I have… non routable local internet address 192.168.1.1
    DNS-cac-lb-01.rr.com and DNS-cac-lb-02.rr.com
I am using windows 7 and my ISP is time Warner so-cal. Help me obiwan, you’re my only hope.

Sorry friend. I have not had the gaul to load the 1.0 firmware. I am 99% sure I have the 2.0 hardware. I did however unplug my modem for an hour and then try and reconnect. The result was a lossless environment for fifteen to twenty minuets (a long time for me.). But, I am right back still having the same problem. A friend gave me a new netgear router, I am going to try that and I am going to go to Timewarner and have them replace my modem just to make sure there is nothing wrong with the surfboard. I will report back with my findings.

  • Windows server 2012 and windows xp remote desktop connection loss

I am having this problem for a month now, and i am stumped with trying to find an answer . I have talked with several network admins in my area and with no luck i have not found a solution. I have a windows server 2012 placed with 5 pcs that are connected
on a local network , those 5 pc's connect to the server via remote desktop. List of pc's:
    1x Windows 7
    4x Windows XP SP3
All have the latests network drivers, all have the latest version of remote desktop installed. All have been scanned for viruses. All have antivirus software.
Problem is the 4 XP machines lose connection on when connected via remote desktop. If one starts losing connection the other 3 start to lose the connection aswell. The windows 7 machine is not affected by this it works fine.
    What have I tried:
    Scanning for viruses.
    Disabling Firewall and antivirus software.
    Updating all drivers.
Did many changes to group policy like keepalives etc.
    Turning off SMBv2 SMBv3.
Turning off network adapter Offload settings.
Changed some registry settings like keepalive, smb etc.
Updating every pc and server with all windows updates.
    Changed the router and switch.
Port forwarded needed ports like 3389.
    Updating remote desktop to 7.0.
I might be forgetting some stuff i will add as i remember anything.
So the thing is this. I use a Windows XP machine from my office I remotely connect to the server via the Internet and I DO NOT experience any connection loss. BUT the XP machines on the local network constantly experience connection loss via remote desktop.
I pinged every Machine from the server via CMD command PING. So when they lose connection the Packets get time outs . Packets get dropped between 1-10 packets when a connection is lost. This packet drop does not occur when using the internet or anything else.
ONLY when connected to the server via remote desktop. The packets get dropped at random intervals.
Problem is I use an XP machine and I am not experiencing any loss of connection , while the XP machines on the local network experience it , but not the windows 7 machine.
Router is ASUS RT-N53 , and switch is Dlink DES-1008D. Server is a Dell PowerEdge T110 II.
Can someone please tell me what can i do to solve this problem?

So today got some word from their office. They were using RDP from 8AM until 12PM all was working fine. Then got back after lunch about 1PM and got a few connection lost errors when they tried using RDP again. Its weird since they didn't have disconnects
in the morning, and started having them after lunch.
Also noticed, that two pc were not using RDP and were disconnected as shown in task manager. And they still got request timeouts.
Maybe this is not a remote desktop issue?

Below is some info i get about ports.
I tried to set DMZ on my main router to have full access to ported to access point upstair which is in the ip of 192.168.1.2 and the main router in the living room is the gateway router with the 192.168.1.1 ip.
I still cant see apple tv after i try the DMZ method.
    any suggestion ?
These network ports are used by Apple TV for communications on your network.
TCP port 123 is used to communicate with a network time server.
TCP port 3689 is used to communicate with iTunes while using the iTunes Library Sharing feature.
UDP port 5353 is used by Apple TV for automatically finding computers with iTunes on your network using Bonjour.
TCP port 80 is used for communicating with podcast servers.
TCP port 80 and 443 are used for basic and secure communications with the iTunes Store via the Internet.
TCP port 53 is used for regular DNS.
These are well-known ports used by Apple products, like iTunes. If you can use all the features of iTunes, these ports are likely already open on your firewall or NAT router. Note: These ports may also used by other services such as YouTube and Flickr.

When the Apple TV is paired with a remote, it means only that remote can control it, when it's not paired any remote can control it. You will need a remote for each of your devices.

I've got the same problem.  Late 2011 17" MacBook Pro mirroring to 2nd generation AppleTV (720p) over AirPort Extreme supporting 802.11n.
I agree with your Apple "hope" and the sooner the better.  AirPlay mirroring was the single largest motivator in getting Mountain Lion.

  • Connectivity loss between PLC and Kepware

    Hi Experts,
I m working on SAP PCo and PLC connectivity using Kepware.
I m trying to find out ways to find connectivity loss between
    1) PLC and kepware
    2) kepware and PCo
For 2nd approch,if connectivity loss is there then PCo instance will go in error state and using remote monitoring we can get alert.
But m not able to find any way for 1st approch.
If PLC connection lost then only tag quality in kepware is bad.
Is there any way in PCo expression editor to check tag quality so that i can trigger MII transaction?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Neha

To add to Hubrisnsx's comment ... are you provisioned Ethernet or MoCA for the WAN connection?
Edit: Never mind, I see in the first post you said MoCA.   So, if the MoCA channel is staying up, then it sounds like it might be something inside the ONT.
Keep in mind that while some Verizon folks do drop by these forums from time to time, that this is primarily are user to user forum where customers can help one another.

  • HT4587 My airport express and wireless airplay speaker are connected to wife, but airplay and homesharing are not working...what to do?

My airport express and wireless airplay speaker are connected to WIFI, but airplay and homesharing are not working...what to do?  Everything was working fine until about two weeks ago, all of the sudden airplay has disappeared from the iphone, itunes on the laptop, and the apple remote for iphone.  I have restarted the router many times, re-setup the airplay speaker and the airport express and booth are showing as being properly connected to the router when I log into the router IP address.  I was on the phone with Apple support for 30 minutes they blames verizon, got on the phone with verizon and they stated the settings were all correct and compatible with apple, got back on the phone with apple and they again are blaming verizon and trying to get me to get an airport extreme because that would fix the problem...any suggestions, please!

There are three Airport resets, soft, hard and factory default.  It would probably be beneficial if you tried each one in sequence.  Actually, you could jump to the factory default reset if you don't mind reconfiguring from scratch.

  • Internet connection loss using Airport Extreme and Netgear DG843

    Hello,
I am accessing internet via a Netgear DG834 router (not wifi), connected to an Airport Extreme base station. Most of the time, I can access internet through the Wifi network of the AEB without any problem. But around once a day I am experiencing connection loss and the only way I found to restore it is to reset the Netgear Router by physically unplungging it.
Both the Netgear and the AEB have up to date firmware, so I suspect some kind of problem in my setup, as I am not an expert in setting up networks.
Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected to the AE (which is also a router if I understand correctly) could cause connection problems ?
I am at a loss, and do not even know how to describe the relevant informations of my current setup. If a kind soul could help me nonetheless, I would be very gratefull.

Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected
to the AE (which is also a router if I understand
correctly) could cause connection problems ?
    Yes.
Ensure that that the AEBS is configured to not distribute IP addresses.
Also ensure that the AEBS is on a different channel to the DG834G.

  • Ipad speed and wifi loss of connection

I updated my ipad 3 to iOS 7 version and it runs so slow now, it is so painful to use that I almost can't stand it, I've  noticed the drop in performance, as soon as I upgraded the software.. Can I change it back,  is there a fix for this..
Also, the ipad constantly drops its wifi connection since the update, Mysore upgraded his iphone 4 and it also drops the connection...?
    Any idea sits very frustrating

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

The main problem is not so much the speed but the fact that without fail, after going online via wifi on a laptop, phone tablet etc, around 5 minutes later the light starts to glash orange and connection is lost for about 10-15 minutes. it then seems to sort itself out but the speed is always then really slow.
I have tried one suggestion on here after searching which was to download an app to check the other wifi connections and change manually to a different channel, but have tried loads of different channels and nothing has helped.
    I have tried different microfilters
i have tried moving the router nearer to the socket and away from any other electrical devices etc.
I live in flat and there is no master socket as such, there are three sockets in the flat but i have connected the broadband to the one that i can clearly see is fed directly from a cable coming in the wall from telphone pole outside.
I cant do the silent line test at this moment as i do not have a landline to try this but will try and obtain one and try that
I have just purchased a better quality shorte rj11 cable but this has not arrived in the post yet.
    Any suggestions?

  • Airplay Stuttering Issues - Troubleshooting Help

    Hi all,
I've been having some Airplay problems for a while and all of the other forum posts or articles I've found online haven't helped. Here's a complete list of what works and what doesn't as well as my current WLAN settings.
Any ideas would be incredibly appreciated!
    Hardware details:
Apple TV is on wifi (setup doesn't really allow for it to be wired)
    Retina MacBook Pro (mid 2012)
    iPhone 5s
    iPad 2
Very responsive internet and wifi in every context except Airplay
Had the exact same setup at my previous residence (suburban house) but am now having these issues in my new apartment (city)
    WORKS
Video Airplay from iPad streaming apps (YouTube, Hulu apps)
All Apple TV (3rd gen) direct streaming (iTunes Radio, Netflix, Hulu, etc.)
    Airplay from iPad photos app
    Airplay mirroring from iPhone 5s
    Music.app streaming from iPhone 5s
    Video Airplay from iPhone 5s
Ethernet: Airplay mirroring from RMBP (audio & video)
    Ethernet: iTunes streaming
Software on all devices is up-to-date
    DOESN’T WORK
Video Airplay from iPad local files (videos within GoodReader)
    Wifi iTunes Airplay from laptop
Music.app Airplay from iPad (no sound from TV at all)
    Spotify Airplay from iPad (stutters)
    Airplay mirroring from iPad
Airplay mirroring from rMBP (one frame stays frozen)
Setting MacBook’s audio output to Airplay (stutters)
    Spotify streaming from iPhone 5s
    WIRELESS SETUP
    Linksys E2500 (Documentation)
It seems like I've done everything that Apple suggests in its wifi router suggestions
**This problem existed before I disabled the 2.4GHz channel and I made the decision to disable it throughout this troubleshooting process.

    Hello the_Tobman,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
In order to troubleshoot performace issues with AirPlay between your devices, please follow the steps below.
Resolve performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your iOS device, Apple TV or AirPort Express.
    Try these suggestions:
Ensure that other devices are not trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If possible, try to locate your Wi-Fi router in the same room as your iOS device and Apple TV.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
If the Wi-Fi router has an external antenna, check to see that is it connected properly and in good condition.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.
If you are using iTunes, please see these troubleshooting guidelines.
