Airplay symbol not appearing?

I cannot get my mirroring icon when using apple TV?

In iTunes > File > Home Sharing, have you turned on Home Sharing?
Is your MBP too old for the standard AirPlay software?  It needs to be and Early 2011 or newer model for the standard AirPlay software to work.  You also need a second or third generation Apple TV.
See the fine print at http://www.apple.com/appletv/airplay/
"AirPlay Mirroring is available with iPhone 4s or later; iPad 2 or later; iPad mini; iPod touch (5th generation); and iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer), and Mac Pro (Late 2013) with OS X Mountain Lion or later."
My MBA is also too old for AirPlay but I get around that using AirParrot.  It mirrors fine but the video is not as clear as when mirroring my iPhone, iPad or newer MBP.
Also, when I was configuring my MBA, MBP, iPad, and iPhone on Apple TV on a 2.4 GHz network, none of them would work.  When I switched to a 5 GHz network they worked.

  • HT204291 Airplay symbol not appearing despite following all steps on the troubleshooting page

I have a 13 inch mid 2012 macbook air updated to OS X Lion 10.7.5, and a second or third generation apple tv, updated with the latest software. The airplay symbol isn't appearing on my screen. I tried disabling firewalls, they are both on same network, I have restarted both devices. I can play music from itunes through the tv, but am not able to use airplay mirroring. Is there anything else I can try?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). You can see which Mac you have and which operating system you are using by selecting 'About this Mac' from the Apple menu in the top left corner of your Mac and selecting the 'More Info' button.

Try restarting all devices including portable  iOS ones and your router.
Check Airplay is not disabled in AppleTVs settings.

Something else I've been noticing is that when I use the Pen tool my computer or speakers or something making this werid noise and it only happens when I'm using the Pen tool.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No one has had these issues? I just got another one. My timeline disappeared, I don't mean the menu hid or thats it not there. It's there its just not actually displaying the Timeline or at least it didn't till I wen't back a few changes for some reason. It was still there though as I could click the eye and lock and the layers (which ones I have no idea) it was all grey. Also again the selection area doesn't show up, all movements of symbols are slow to update their postitions and when I turn on outlines it does nothing.
Also everytime I close Flash I get an error from windows, no idea why.

  • AirPlay icon not appearing on Yosemite with MBA 2012

I'm running a MBA 2012 with Yosemite 10.10.2. I'm able to use other Airplay devices on the network, eg: iPad Mini 2 to AppleTV 2, iPhone 5S to Sony Airplay speakers, etc. All of the devices connect to the same home wireless network and wireless SSID. The firewall is turned off on the MBA, and yes, Airplay is listed as supported for this MBA. The checkbox under System Preferences|Displays there, but it can't find any Airplay devices to extend the display on.
The MBA 2012 under Mavericks seemed to work fine with Airplay, but I lost that in the Yosemite upgrade. Strangely enough, I did a clean install of Yosemite to a flash drive and the Airplay icon did appear. So obviously there's something wrong with my MBA, but I don't know where to look and the usual searches were pretty worthless. Is there a service that is just not running? If so, which one?

That link is not really helpful and I've already gone through them as listed in the original post. Doesn't matter if Wifi or connected via Ethernet. This has nothing to do with iTunes (which is version 12.1). Other devices on the network (iPad, iPhone, other Mac) can do Airplay just fine so it's not a network issue of ports being open or blocked. The firewall on the Mac is turned off. Bonjour is turned on. Airplay is enabled on the AppleTV and the Sony Airplay speaker is turned on and available to other devices. In System Preferences, Sound|Output, the ability to select the speaker isn't an option.
So the questions that remain are:
    1) Is there a service that I need to make sure that starts upon bootup? If so, which one?
    2) Is there some overlooked network setting that might be preventing this?

  • My airplay is not appearing on my iphone

I just bought an appletv and have set it up. I am trying to mirror my iphone screen to my tv, but the airplay icon is not appearing. My phone is connected to the same wifi as the appletv.  The youtube is working fine on the appletv. I have airplay "on" on the appletv. Why isn't my airplay icon appearing on my phone? I have airdrop switched to "everyone". How can I fix this? (I have tried this on an iphone 5s and iphone 5)

  • Why does the airplay icon not appear after upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac.

I am using an Apple TV, iPad 2, and an iMac with wifi sharing enabled.  Before upgrading to mavericks I was easily able to use airplay to mirror the display of my ipad2 to a projector.  After the upgrade the airplay icon will dispear.  When I restart the wifi sharing on my imac then the airplay icon will reappear on my ipad.
Does anyone have a fix for this.  I use this in my classroom and this problem made yesterdays lesson almost undoable because students were givng presentations and each time a student wanted to project thier ipad screen I had to reset my wifi.

    Can anyone help

If you don't see the AirPlay icon in the Control Center:
    1. Turn off router, Apple TV and iPad
    2. Turn on router and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process
    3. Turn on Apple TV and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process
    4. Turn on iPad (wait 30 seconds) and test AirPlay
