Airplay to View on the iMac
Hi. Could you use Airplay on your iPhone 5 to mirror apps like games to your iMac i7 or you still need an Apple TV even though the iMac is already like an Apple TV? Thank you.

Is there a way to use the imac as a viewer for my Nikon Camera?
After I hook up my camera to the Imac, Aperture launches. Instead, I'd like to just use the Imac to view the photos that are on the SD card inside my camera. That way, I can easily delete the photos I don't want to waste hard drive space on. I could do minor cropping from inside the camera before saving the files to Aperture. And, Photostream wouldn't pick up all those photos I didin't want to save in the first place had I moved them all over to Aperture and just viewed it with the card. I want the imac to operate as a live monitor so I can view the photos on the SD card inside the camera. Any thoughts?? Just like you can using a TV that has the right inputs.
If your Nikon camera supports it, you can do what you want with Nikon's software.

I have a device that shows up in my airplay device list in iTunes, and on my iPhone that does not exist. How do I delete it? I have OS X 10.10.1 on my iMac, and iOS 8.1.2 on my iPhone 5. I would like to get it out before I add new airplay devices to my network.
I called Apple tech support. The device turns out to be a WiFi extender. I never would have guessed that the extender would show up on the list since I wouldn't think of it as an airplay device, and in the list, it shows a little speaker icon. In the process of talking with Apple, I gained a greater understanding of how airplay works.
It turns out that there is no stored list of devices in a file on the mac, or anywhere else. I have seen a lot of traffic on the web from people trying to modify this list, but there isn't one. iTunes, and other devices simply poll the network for airplay devices from time to time.

I have an Imac in my bedroom and apple tv hooked to my big screen in my living room. When I select mirror Imac on the Imac to view on the big screen in living room, can I get a wireless keyboard and track pad to control Imac from living room?
I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

The photos on my iMac have been modified to be read by iLife 11 (which is installed on my MacBook Pro). Now I am unable to view my photos on the iMac as I have an older version of iPhoto installed. Can this modification be reversed perhaps using time-machine?
No, Library conversion to iPhoto 11 is one way only. You will need to upgrade you iMac to iPhoto 11.

You can view tracks in a given format by selecting to show the Kind column. If you mean you want to determine which specific MP3 tracks you have that were converted by iTunes as opposed to being imported in MP3 format, Get Info on a track and look at the "encoded with" field.

Was watching a movie with AirPlay mirroring on atv from iMac. Got a Skype call. Could not hear caller until I unplugged atv. Turned off AirPlay on both atv and iMac. Could not hear Skype caller until I turned off atv. What else could I have done?
I checked and found that the router did not have the latest firmware. It does now. The issue is still there. I did a little research and found that the model number of my Apple TV (MC572LL/A) shows that it is a 2G version which uses the A4 chip. The latest version uses the A5 chip and is 1080 capable. Both are supposed to be capable of using type "N" routers. I don't think that should be an issue but I wonder if later updates may have introduced some issues in the 2G version.
I am going to try changing the "N" channel also- just to see if that makes any difference. The istumbler app does not show any "N" networks in my area so it is defaulting to 149. I will note that even 1 foot away from the router I only get 75-85% for signal. I would expect it to be 100% since it is so close. I am also seeing noise go up from typically 13% to 21% when it is on channel 3 and that close. I will play change locations and channels and see if there is any improvement. -

I cant use the X key on my imac wired keyboard, the key viewer shows the two commands keys pressed when i hit x and the caps lock light is always on....not really sure what happened, but i didnt do anything different from my daily stuff
just an update....when i hit the right command key it respond normal (cmd v cmd c...etc) but when i hit the left command key it shows the x and two commands pressed as well as it delete what i'm working on i.e like backspace but takes out everything at once

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Does the iMac have the ability to view a second video input?
Basically can a VGA input show on an iMac? I have a desktop that I'd still need for certain work related software packages. I'd rather not have a a second monitor on my desk.
Thanks.I make videos for professional presentations with the iMac 20", 1 Gb memory. Works great. I sync music to the videos in Logic Express. I also have made a lot of home videos which I have burned to dvds.
As for the workflow you mention, there is no need to export to dvd-format. You can just burn you iMovie project as files on a dvd, which will give the convenience of storing on dvd without compression. This is how I make my iMovie backups.
The new iMac has 512Mb RAM soldered in, and only one memory slot. Although an additional 1Gb RAM would be sufficient, I would order 2Gb. Otherwise you will have to remove the 1Gb when upgrading to 2Gb. Unfortunately, the extra RAM is expensive, so you might want to add 3rd party ram afterwards.
Also, for video work, I would choose the largest disc. But of course, by burning your projects to dvd, you can manage with the default disc.
All the neccesary software is included. You can create the movies in iMove, add music from iTunes, create your own music in GarageBand, create DVDs in iDVD (including a lot of cool menu templates).
If you later want to advance to more complex applications, the iMac will be able to run them as well.
If you want to record voice-over and music, you will need a microphone and a sound-interface.

Can I view a MacMini on the iMac?
I need to "reconfigure, etc." a MacMini. Rather then doing this on the TV, to which it is normally hooked up, I'd rather do this on my iMac, because that would be so much more convenient.

Cheers, Veit BurgerNo you can not hook them together with a DisplayPort connection, because the Mac Mini is to old and the 21.5" iMac does not support Display input like a 27" iMac.
Depending on exactly what you want to do?
If you want to simply share the 21.5" iMac's Display with the Mac Mini you will need to use something like ScreenRecycler.

Or you could use a 6 to 9 pin FireWire cable and in Target Disk Mode access the Mac Mini's Hard Drive from the iMac.

When streaming a movie from an imac to apple tv, is there a way of putting the imac display off? I find it a waste having the screen on in another room. Any advice?
No problem.
This is a user forum so you are not addressing Apple. There's nothing to fix, that's how home-sharing works. There would be no way for the ATV to recognize your library and display content if the computer is in sleep mode.
You can always airplay from an IOS device or use icloud if you don't wish to keep the computer on. -

Publishing iCal With MONTH view being the default view

I'm using iWeb to publish a page, then editing the HTML code to include a non-scrolling frame that is my iCal calendar on it. It works ok EXCEPT that it defaults to a Week View on the web page, and that looks lame because for our purposes it should really default to a MONTH view.
Does anyone know how to make this happen????

display with the month-view by default, just use this
